I think that they cleverly make you spam press to activate the barrel, so before you even start you are fluttering the barrel to stay in place. From there its fairly easy to intuit how to control it

Damn, the music is _sooooo_ close to syncing up perfectly with the end of the rocket barrel segment, but unfortunately it loops for _just_ a couple seconds before the rocket barrel crashes and the outro music starts. Come on Retro, couldn't you have cut off 2 seconds of the level to make the music end perfectly with the rocket barrel?
