1st off, thanks a lot! this saves a lot of money - though not time.... there are different configurations of the yaris although the engine, in this case the 1nz or 2nz, are all more or less the same - but it seems that postioning of fans/pipes/ac/protective plates etc [apart from that some jobs are done with ordinary car jacks on grass/tar etc and others with the help of a pro car lift in a garage or workshop] differ from country to country and year to year etc. hence what sometimes looks very simple on video, in real life can be quite a challenge - as i am 70 plus and doing it on my own this operation, even with more or less the right tools and some improvisation, took me hours - in other words, make sure your preparation includes both the right tools and don't be in a hurry and have alternative transport and someone to assist you! though in the end you will save money and feel a sense of accomplishement - and learn! after 14 years our yaris is still going strong, hard to beat toyota!

2000 Echo here and your method of getting the two 14 'millie' bolts worked just fine for me. Australian $255 for brand new one - not genuine Toyota, no core charge, but probably good enough for an older car. You nailed the camera angles so I was able to make steady progress and not get stuck for long. Other vids tried to get the top bolt from the front without removing the battery and in my case hoses which proved straightforward and made the top bolt easy out and easy back in. I'm definitely taking up using 'millie' instead of 'mil' because it is so much more friendly and keeps those potential troublemakers of good terms!

This was fun to watch even though I don't have a Toyota Yaris. I have a Nissan Sentra and the procedure is basically the same.

Good informational. I’d have a go at this I like that powered socket. Not do easy on axle stands but still doable

I like the video and angles you show. I do question the 'second hand' parts though. Not sure what the prices are for a quality remanufactured or new unit are in the EU [assuming by your accent] but here in the states reman's are about $125 US with a core charge and the new TYC [2 yr warranty] I just ordered online was $99 US shipped with tax included. I get the whole, 'all it does is start the car' BUT when it fails most likely it will NOT be when you have the time to change it yourself and probably will not fail in a convenient location like your driveway...JMO.
We bought a 2007 Yaris about a year ago from a friend who bought it new after college for my 16 year old daughter. At that time I went through every system of the vehicle and did a lot of work that was mostly 'catch-up' maintenance to insure that she would not have any foreseeable issues with a 14 year old vehicle on the road. I waited on the starter because it was starting fine at the time, this year as soon as it got cold it started making noise. When its in the heated garage that noise becomes minimized. It makes no sense to me to wait until it totally fails and try to rap it with a hammer in an attempt to get it home. The average cost of a tow is about $150 US now, as an older guy of 54 I no longer 'enjoy' lying on my back in my freetime changing out parts BUT as a father/husband its still my job to do so so we dont get hammered by a crazy-high bill at the local stealership for a basic repair like this.

These kinds of videos are very helpful, however, usually people replacing their own parts dont' have hoists and compressor wrenches. I'd like to see more videos that are more realistic, namely including the massive amount of swearing and cursing of automotive engine designers and bolts that are almost impossible to get off and laying in the dirt and constantly debateing whether a pro should have been hired.

Hi Raul, I've got a 57 plate Yaris 1.4 d4d, it's not starting, battery is fine, starter motor been tested & swapped, alternator are all working fine, no loss of power, plenty of fuel, but it's not starting,. Can you please help me narrow down what the fault is? I'm wanting to learn rather than throw it at a garage so I'd really appreciate it if you can guide me. Thanks

Hi thanks for watching really appreciate it. The D4d engine not the best in the world if its chain driven maybe the timing chain has jumped also have you replaced the fuel Filter by any chance
