    I find it great when women repair and fix their own cars.
    The video is very well structured, massive thumb up from me! Especially because you have also given the part number and the torque, saves the viewer the research.
    Thank you very much, best regards from ugly Germany!

      Darren Lucas it’s a very distinctive noise, if you drive past a wall it’s very loud. Definitely worth giving all of your pulleys a spin whilst the belts off to check for any abnormal sounds (the crank pulley doesn’t spin of course) or grinding ect 👍🏼 thanks really appreciate it! 😁

      @@carsandbras2202 thankyou....I,ll do that.
      Think I may have an alternator whine too.....it started same time but could be the same problem, add that too a nearside wheel bearing and my car sounds like a barrel of stray cats all inside of a month! I hate to think how many thousands I've spent on it so far just trying to make the ultimate machine.....seems the more I modify the more it complains 🙈.

    I changed the belt tensioner pulley on my sisters mini.. that one you can loosen with the thumb tab and clip it off to where it stays loose. Then i turned the car on and no noise, pressed the pulley against the band and got the noise again. Thats how i figured it wasnt thenwater pump ir any other pulley.. took me about an hourto do it and changed the belt out also because it was worn..

    Just changed the idler pulley on my R53, the noise was horrible! Did it while I had the front off to change the Supercharger oil, water pump and thermostat. While I was in there I also swapped out the serpentine belt tensioner as well.

  • @Lewis137

    I thought my rattle was the idler pulley as well but mine came out just like this. The spacer in the back threads onto the 13mm bolt and wasn't actually loose. My issue (and later confirmed by Cleo's other video) was the tensioner pulley was blown (with only 52k miles). So if you hear a rattle, check your tensioner first, and might as well replace the idler while you're in there.

    Cleo how are the Nitrac discs like? I saw your post on MOG (or was it one of Olis posts, dunno) about them, so wondering if you could give some sort of feedback?
    Currently running "normal" temp threated TRW discs with Hel HP666 pads on the R56 JCW brakes. But at one point the pads are going to eat the discs, and I've wanted Nitrac before so.

      Qwerrrz hey! So far so good! I’ve got Carbotech XP10 front pads with R56 callipers. They’ve had a lot of use and no cracks or anything so far and still a decent bit of life left in them. I’d happily use them again 👍🏼 I had EBC drilled and grooved disks with Mintex 1144 pads before my current set up, the brake fade was worrying and there wasn’t enough bite for trackdays but for road use they were fine

    Great and very helpful as I suspect my 2005 Cooper (non-S) has the same issue, but it only rattles between 1900 and 2000 rmp - was your noise constant through the rev range? :-)

    • @carsandbras2202
      @carsandbras2202  4 года назад +2

      saftevand the R50 non S models don’t have these idler pulleys, the R50 has a pulley for the water pump, alternator, AC compressor, crankshaft pulley and tensioner but unless it’s one of those pulleys that has failed I’d assume it’s a similar noise ect. Yes the rattle was constant, strangely there was no change in the noise through the Rev range! But I hope you find the issue, usually it’s something pretty simple once you find it 😅

    Great video and great technician! Now I have a question. I hear a very slight noise inside the cabin of my car (Peugeot 406) which I think is coming from idlers and bearings but when I listen to the engine idling, I don't notice anything special. It is not annoying and not load at all just a very slight noise which is not noticed by others. Now, what do you recommend me to do? Should I wait until it gets louder? Is it important?

    If that is a torque wrench you are using as a breaker bar then please stop doing that it’s the wrong tool, wearing out a tool and could possibly damage it. Breakers are less than 12 pounds on eBay.. no tool company warranties the joints so I’m not sure of the point of buying a snap or teng as your probably going to be pissed if a £60+ breaker snaps on you and the cheap ones usually do the job anyway. You can get a £5 joint rebuild kit if the bolt snaps for an emergency. Thank you very much.
