That’s technically not correct. The current generation is actually the most reliable ever made but if you’re going to buy a first generation MINI, stick shift is always the way to go.
The motor seems to work fine. It successfully unlatches the passenger side but fails to unhitch the driver side. The sunroof function still works perfectly. The dealership told me I can either replace the entire mechanism or just the sunroof slider mechanism. Both are right at $3k and they refuse to investigate and fix the actual problem. It's like looking at an engine with a locked up starter and recommending a full engine replacement. Doesn't seem to make much sense, but... I'm not a Mini mechanic.

Poly bushes are useless and will cause suspension binding if not greased every 6 months to a year. Unless this is a race car new oem rubber bushing make the most sense and will last for years
@@TheMINIac how often do you check ? You need would need to remove your wheel disconnect the sway bar and make sure the arm move up and down freely. Even better test is having your car corner balanced and seeing if you get repeatable numbers on each corner of the car when the car is “bounced” up and down on the scale. Most likely you won’t due to sticking. Easy enough to Google it. Poly bushings need greasing if you don’t they stick. Not rocket science

@@TheMINIac Yeah but yu live in the States. Alot of those cars live in very dry warm areas and spend alot of time doing long single journeys. In the past 8k miles mine has needed a new power steering motor and an new radiator fan assembly. Thats close to 1000 usd all in all. If a wasn't such a fan of R53 mini cooper's i'd have scrapped it.
I had over 150,000 before I totaled mine and it was in great shape. Cost a lot of $$$ to keep it that way thou
My 2005 cooper s model has 173k miles and it drives amazing noajor issues just comment tail light rust

"same deal as" is NOT helpful! You need prior knowledge which we don't all have!
@@TheMINIac it’s not car specific. Again just Google poly bushings and grease. Unless you run grease fittings and grease them they will stick after awhile. Not worth the hassle over oem IMO. Shopping for a r53 myself and plan to replace all bushings with oem. Thanks for posting your video was helpful overall
@@TheMINIac they will last forever just need grease lol. So it’s extra time and honestly most people have no clue and never grease them. Grease or zek fittings don’t come with the bushings and most don’t buy them and install. Something people should be aware of is all
