The engine was originally 1275cc, as in classic Mini Coopers. I bought it from a friend, who bought it from someone else ........ My friend was running a double glazing business and never had time to drive the little beast. So £500 changed hands and I used it till I broke it! Seems the radiator was never upgraded, so it was "in" the left hand wheel arch, which was fine for 35bhp. So the big-ish engine, with it's big carb, limped home with a hole in number 2 piston. Cosworth pistons I found out next weekend when I stripped the cylinder head off to find a holy hole Batman! That brings back many memories of my youth - very sweet ride! It may have been registered, or re-shelled in '70, but it's the series 1 body, they changed in 67/68 to the series 2 with the square tail-lights and different front grill. We had an early series 2 in the late sixties/early seventies, and a later Series 3 (RIP), with the wind-up windows, after that - it also had a bigger fuel tank, which may be an option for the owner if it's not running the Cooper/S dual tanks. i would STRONGLY recommend the owner to give some serious contemplation to having a full front cage - the "crumple zone" is basically the passenger compartment, as there is VERY(!) little strength in the front pillars under impacts.
I used to have a standard 1.3 mini with 13 inch wheels when I was in my 20s. 52 now. It was great because you could drive it like you were racing without losing your license
My mum has owned x 6 Classic mini's. I had an R53 JCW With 300bhp Supercharged tuned at 1320 St Neots UK. Mini torque Forum UK. Mini R53 Project 007, was the fastest mini in the UK on a standard m45 Eaton supercharger 17 percent pulley catcams, 550c injectors Big Valve head just under 300bhp 166mph top speed from a 1.6 tritec engine. ive been in a b16a2 engine swap classic mini, but a k20 would be savage.
Growing up, in my 15 to 16 year range we lived in Las Palmas of the Canary Islands. My father had a Mini Cooper S with the 1275 engine. That thing was a blast.
What a fantastic little mini. Love that B16 sound. It looks really clean, and fun as hell. Awesome job whoever made this thing a reality. I wonder what a K20 would do in this?
As soon as he hits vtec he switches gears... Definitely never owned a Vtec honda/acura. You live in Vtec when you want to have the fun and really enjoy the car. it's like a completely different car in Vtec and out of it. Absolutely sick ride! Make me want my integra back!
I saw a classic Mini with a Honda engine back in 2002, 2004 at Knockhill Racecourse. That car was a little rocket that captured the attention of everyone who was there.🤙🏼🙂🤙🏼❤️
What a cool combo. I can imagine it makes just enough power. I really like the b-series engines. They are a blast, and reliable. I really want to do a grown man's ek sedan build with a nice, stout B18C. IBc's, nice suspension set up...
Great seeing a big displacement guy realise how much fun a VTec is especially in a lightweight vehicle. You just got to learn to keep it in the high revs to get that VTEC. If you watch mini racing in the UK they are so much fun to watch and give for bigger cars so much grief cuz they handle so brilliantly
Memories of my '86 CRX Si, similar size, earlier version of the same engine. Downshifting 5th to 4th to become airborne again, chasing a Jag XKE. Had it in Atlanta, Thousand Oaks CA, Colorado Springs (where you got this fine Mini).
It’s more fun driving a slow car fast than a very fast car slow and be frustrated. This proves the theory. Oh and please no Turbo’s, why would anyone even think it, lol. Sweet ride👌🏿

Love it, more content like this please! The high hp half million dollar cars are cool as f**k, but for the normal person, they are unobtainable! A realistic backyard performance build such as this in my humble opinion is way way cooler! Peace.
Absolutely love it! Mini: big tick, vtec: big tick; mini with vtec: MASSIVE tick!
But why did you keep slowing down for the corners? 😂😂
Got me a 1974 clubman 1 owner(family) and 100% original...including asthmatic engine. the struggle is real...modify or keep OG....TY great video. Too many options :)
I love everything about this car, it sounds amazing that engine looks so good. I bet it’s such a perfect backroad ripper.
Badass Mini!!!
I used to have a standard 1.3 mini with 13 inch wheels when I was in my 20s. 52 now. It was great because you could drive it like you were racing without losing your license
I love Minis with engine swaps, powerful engine little car is always one of my favourite combos, especially as a Brit.
Mighty Car Mods did this years ago. Epic to see it being done still
and cleaner... no fiberglass
Awesome little pocket rocket😁👍👍🤙
Don't have much experience around honda vtec engines, but DAMN I never heard a FOUR CYLINDER SOUND this GOOD!!
ck out some late 50s early 60s bristol ace. Great sounding 4 bangers
I wish they revved it out more. This B16 could go well above 8500 rpm
Growing up, in my 15 to 16 year range we lived in Las Palmas of the Canary Islands. My father had a Mini Cooper S with the 1275 engine. That thing was a blast.
Shawn....Dood, Lovin the new exciting builds your getting some bangers going now man👌🔥🙏🇨🇦
What a jewel of a car!
Mini Cooper is such a classic msarvelous car..Great & skilled mechanics.Fast & Furious.pure sdrenalin.
What little monster!!! Thanks AutoTopia LA!!! You’ve managed to find another interesting gem
What a fantastic little mini. Love that B16 sound. It looks really clean, and fun as hell. Awesome job whoever made this thing a reality. I wonder what a K20 would do in this?
That is an angry little bee, the v-tec comes in like a switch. Awesome.
Had an early Cooper back in the day- they handle like a go-kart, so this must be a hairy little ride! Love it!
As soon as he hits vtec he switches gears... Definitely never owned a Vtec honda/acura. You live in Vtec when you want to have the fun and really enjoy the car. it's like a completely different car in Vtec and out of it. Absolutely sick ride! Make me want my integra back!
the best mini i ever seen in my life!!!!!!!
That thing sounds fantastic. If I owned that, no matter how bad my day was, it would be all I needed ❤
I love it! What a cool little car!
I saw a classic Mini with a Honda engine back in 2002, 2004 at Knockhill Racecourse.
That car was a little rocket that captured the attention of everyone who was there.🤙🏼🙂🤙🏼❤️
What a little beast. I love the variety on this channel!!
Sep Rep'ing MiniLife.37 with the shirt! Woohoo! Love the Mini. I drive my '72 all the time. And I fit at 6'2".
i want OOOONE!!! haha...best proyect, congratulations, thnks for video.
Love the ride! 🚀 Mini!!!
What a cool combo. I can imagine it makes just enough power. I really like the b-series engines. They are a blast, and reliable. I really want to do a grown man's ek sedan build with a nice, stout B18C. IBc's, nice suspension set up...
This is sooo cool! Between Minis and VW bugs there is no telling how mush fun was had throughout the years.
Smiles per mile at the limit on this one!
Super cool build, and a rip in the canyons to boot eh...nice.
Love this mini and to know that it is so small and fits 4 persons its amazing
It’s not about the Horsepower, it’s about that sub-two inch ride height with oval exhaust! Sweet ride 😺 Cheers 🍻
Really beautiful, badass Mini ❤️🥹
Awesome MINI! Pure fun is exactly right.
Now that is a cool car !
Tiny but mighty! It looks at home in that LA backdrop. Uber cool!
Memories of my '86 CRX Si, similar size, earlier version of the same engine. Downshifting 5th to 4th to become airborne again, chasing a Jag XKE. Had it in Atlanta, Thousand Oaks CA, Colorado Springs (where you got this fine Mini).
See, bigger isnt always better. Im six four and needed the window open to drive it for my elbow room. It was the wifes car. Love them.
Driving is about having FUN, whether on human HP or 4k HP. If you smile you are in the fun zone. Its the reason we love our cars, new or old.
It’s more fun driving a slow car fast than a very fast car slow and be frustrated. This proves the theory. Oh and please no Turbo’s, why would anyone even think it, lol. Sweet ride👌🏿
I dont think that thing was slow, them new bmws's need all 5-600 of horses because how heavy they are
This thing looks like an absolute pleasure and a rush, every time you drive it. What monstrous value for the costs.
Edit: It's genuinely beautiful too, nicely done.
Awesome engine for a timeless classic.
Bro the sound! What a cool car.
Yes! Such an awesome little car!
Great video, nice to see something different. 😎
My first ever car was a 70s Mini with the 1100, that machine must be such a blast to carve through the twisties
The diversity on this channel wth both the cars and the owners makes it head and shoulders above the rest
Beautiful little car! My first car was an old mini cooper and my god it was fun!
Excellent! Love to see fun cars that a working guy like myself could obtain and enjoy.
Beautiful car 👊🏼
i've seen sep build some incredible cars but this one is my absolute favorite!
Love when these get restomodded. Such a nice car.😎
