I’m not gonna lie, after watching your E28 front end restore, I completely forgot you bought a Mini. I love your channel man, you deserve way more views and way more subs
Memphis, your commentary gets better and better every video. Always make me giggle whilst educating me through your expertise. You’re clearly a very patient guy, nothing ever seems to faze you. You’re some kind of genius I think. I really love a supercharger whine! Lovely 😁👍👏
Memphis is now one of two channels where I hit like on the videos before they even start playing cause I know they'll be great. Love the channel- keep it up man!
Great vid! I just had to do this myself (also shoutout to ModMini's channel) after getting my first Mini - 2006 Cooper S w/ only 43k miles and one previous owner who generously left the original window sticker in the owner's manual. Grinding noise in my SC was indeed the gears driving the water pump. And not a drop of oil. Found local SC specialist who repaired mine for about $950, including having to replace the stainless shaft the PTO gears, bearings, seals and fresh oil.
The plant of production of this engine was bought by Fiat Brazil and the engine is used in the FCA group equipping other cars like Jeep Renegade and most of Fiat brazilian cars. The difference is that they dont use supercharger and have options for 16v 1.8 and 1.6 litters. Here its considered a very reliable engine.
Brilliant video, Love hearing a supercharging whine. The R53 is very engaging to drive, doesn't really matter how fast they are because you enjoy driving them regardless.. Nice work.
I have a 2003 JCW with 11 percent pulley---I do wish it was a 17 and I had an LSD to counter the torque steer but the car is a great deal of fun to drive---hope you enjoy yours!!!
Informative and fun to watch. I live in California, but lived in Belgium for five years near the city of Mons and can completely relate with “it was rainy and bad weather all”day.” Great job on the car and video!
I have successfully completed three of these SC services and while satisfying when completed I found it wasn’t my favorite project. in my humble opinion you made the right choice on buying a good used Supercharger over trying to fix the original one. So many things could be “off” and you would be right back where you are today… and possibly over heated the engine in the process. That Supercharger service kit is very good. The ones I have used in the US were not that complete. I use a Locking Chain Clamp in addition to the pulley puller when removing the super charger pulley - learned that trick from Mod Mini. Nice work. Did my rear brakes this year as well. I bought the special tool to wind back in the parking brake…. Ended up using a bent needle nose pliers to rotate the piston back into the caliper. Not awful but know your options when you do the brakes. I swapped out all four corners and went with slotted and Cryo treated Stop Tech front rotors - wasn’t all that much more expensive for a better quality longer lasting rotor.
Memphis, amazing video mate. Greetings from Antwerpen, soon I will get my hands on r53 and for sure watch this video to learn. Thanks and maybe see you on Nurburgring!
Found a mini for sale local to me and im really wanting the car way more than i should lol. I searched for mini Cooper videos here on RUclips to get an idea of how horrible it would be to work on. I found this video to be a really good source of information to look out for tips in my purchase. I know more about what to ask about. What dead giveaways could help me set a better price and best of all worse case parts costs for supercharger issues if i find any
Don't know how I missed the mini videos, gosh it's awesome, and your work is also awesome. Loving your videos, your just so honest in what you share, thank you for all your hard work.
it will feel way more.powerful as that pipe would have had a massive boost leak so you would have lost loads of power on boost. but with that pulley I bet that's totally different 👌
Hi, I just bought one of these cars, and I am just about to start to remove the supercharger and address some oil leaks. The car is already a John Cooper Works Version, so has the reduction pulley and other mods, the car when new it was 210 Bhp, I want to get it back to at least that, and with some other work, maybe even more. Many thanks your Video was really helpful in overcoming many questions I had before the work begins, Best regards Nigel :)
Wow! Lots of small parts in that setup. You’re to be commended on your bravery for tackling that one. Seems like it’s working well though so you must’ve gotten it right😄 I think I’ll stick with my Volkswagen turbo though as it’s much simpler to deal with. Good video and a good outcome👍🏽👍🏽 nice woodstove too, a cheap and effective heat source in the shop.
I replaced my supercharger with a rebuilt unit on my 2002 R53 two years ago, so I enjoyed seeing someone else do the job. Did you “burp” the cooling system and let out trapped air via the little bleed screw?
Would recommend oversizing the crank pulley and alternator if you are going to daily this. The reduced pulley could overcharge the alternator and or put more stress of the crank.
You are getting more funny lol. The AC condenser looked a little wet from oil you may want to replace that at some point if the ac stops working. You are awesome bud. Keep the videos coming.
Interesting. The first step on the supercharger service should be to disconnect the battery and give all the resisters a chance to discharge so you do not set off the airbags taking the front of the car apart. Seeing all the bits and pieces involved, all I can say is "You're a better man than I, Gunga Din." Now I know exactly why I love big rear wheel drive cars with big V8s! I had a 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis with the 5.8 litre engine and the trailer towing package. Without a trailer, it was about as fast as that Mini, being a bit under 7 seconds 0-100 km/h, but on the highway it only used 7 litres per 100 km. The joy of enough torque to move a house at low revs. Nothing was difficult or fiddly with that car. Of all my cars, that was likely my favourite, despite how much I love my 1990 Volvo 240 Estate.
This thing needs an intake badly 😁 The stock one has a nasty resonator on it, killing all the good noises. Awesome supercharger kit from the shop you mentioned 👍🏻
When doing the pulley I think the bolt you added locked the pulley to the shaft that’s why it bent. The puller should have worked and you could have used a little heat as well to help expand the pulley
Great video - what an ordeal just to work on the supercharger! Hard luck with the snapped plastic air pipe but at least you found it while you were in the area, rather than it breaking after you rebuilt the whole front of the car..
Hi very helpful video! Do I have to lubricate the rotors or blades with oil as well at 15:05 mins?! With the help of your video I did overhaul of my supercharger washed everything with petrol, did fill the oil accordingly at the pulley side 145ml and water pump or rear side 40ml, but didn't add any bit to the rotors so um just curious!
Love that charger scream - such a great noise. I had forgotten that you even still had the R53 as you have so many cars now! 😋 Another great video, keep them coming 👍
Mooie video !!!
Can you supply the links for the parts you used and the reduction pully kit you got? I have to do this to mine soon and I’m having trouble finding everything. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
Nice to watch your work on this car, and what is inside supercharger :) I wait for next episodes. Be careful with gasoline during work in case of fire stove behind. ;)
Yo man! Really like your videos :) I also live in Belgium, and like working on my car too, which makes watching your videos even more fun and relatable 😂 Keep up the good work man!
Great video! Did the same with my R53 a few days ago. Swapped mine over for another one and serviced it before replacing Got a couple of mod ideas for you if you would like to extract more fun 😏
i bought my mini in 2020 with all same issues but the supercharger was working and is good. lucky. Maybe my has been replaced before. Im at 130k and mine is a 2006 mini cooper s . But probably because it is an automatic transmission that is why the super charger still alive. People with automatic dont drive hard like the 6 speed manual people.
Een verwittigd man ...
I’ve had my R53 cooper s for 7 years been saying I want to get reduced pully since I’ve got it 😂 I got bigger intercooler . CAI . Coil over and a straight pipe and stage one map ..
At least we can see how things work inside the super charger.it seem your puller didn't work as it wasn't pulling the pully it seemed as though that bolt threaded in to the shaft that doesn't pull away so it seemed from the video bug I do love them cooper s minis I'm trying to find one before that do silly prices I think there going to be a welcome sort after classics especially the r50's etc intresting video and we'll informative.👍arr ok maybe the bolt was thin enough for the pully to slip out just watched it again my apologies.
Very very nice videos!!!! You are very good as mechanics!!! You hear definitely more the supercharger!!! Well done!!!! Looking forward to the next video!!! Keep on doing like that!!!👍👍👍👍
Excellent video man, what year model is the mini in this video? Is the super charger kin to all early model mini's as in will an 06 SC bolt onto an 03? Thanks.
Great job, you did it right. Just next time @ 50k use anaerobic gasket sealer for the PTO plate. They are two perfectly matched plates because of the gears.
I’m not gonna lie, after watching your E28 front end restore, I completely forgot you bought a Mini. I love your channel man, you deserve way more views and way more subs

same with me.
What is the other channel?
@@Mcbaby12345 M539 Restorations- by far the best BMW content on RUclips
Love your style. As an A&P I appreciate the pulley-pulling segment. Nothing's easy, friction rules the mechanical world. Dig your perseverance.

Good job. This just shows how crucial proper servicing is on modern cars. Love the whine of the supercharger. Very cool.

Love my R53, getting the airflow and cooling sorted before I start adding power. Looking forward to it becoming a pocket rocket🤘
Mod mini's service videos are the best for minis

Another brilliant video Memphis love the Mini your videos just get better and better 🏴👍🇬🇧👍
That hitmarker at 6:33 got me good
Great video I'm a big fan of these little cars. I've had mine for 12yrs now and still love it as much as the first day I got it.

Great video and very educational for me to do my R52 s convertible 👍
Bro no one give you dislike, that is real fact for this chanel 👏

R53 is not that complicated bro
I'm on this journey with my r52. Great vid.

Grtz,

Lovely Jubbly, as always a great video to watch and learn something from.

loved this video, it goes to show, playing with cars is kinda universal worldwide.
Perfect pace and editing. Great viewing.
Love your content man, every day I am checking for a new video. Your intro reminds me of M359 Restorations channel.
I love your work ethic and determination. Keep up the good work.👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Came for the Garage build, staying for the Mini. Subscribed :)

I absolutely loved the commentary on this episode! especially the "Big boy coming in" bit, had me in stiches 😂
Front end service mode feeling useless.
i feel you,
i've got an A6 with 2.5 v6 tdi. Service mode is hopeless.
Thnx for the great video Memphis! Always enjoy it, you make it all look easy.
Actually forgot you even had the mini 😂👍🏻
Another great episode, one of the best RUclipsrs and love the intro music

Great video. Good explanation. Nice visuals. Appreciate the method and thought process.👌

Is it not necessary to reflash the ecu for the smaller super charger pulley ?
that is a little pocket rocket...i love hearing that supercharger, what a great video.
Can you supply the links for the parts you used and the reduction pully kit you got? I have to do this to mine soon and I’m having trouble finding everything. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
Great video.. with alot of work carried out. Keep it coming!
Love to watch your diy fix ... Nice
8%! A true madlad!
Nice to watch your work on this car, and what is inside supercharger :) I wait for next episodes. Be careful with gasoline during work in case of fire stove behind. ;)
Hello there,
Simple question, but when you're servicing the SC, do you need to refill the whole coolant circuit ?
thanks in advance :)
Yo man! Really like your videos :) I also live in Belgium, and like working on my car too, which makes watching your videos even more fun and relatable 😂 Keep up the good work man!
Great work Memphis this channel is getting better and better, 100k subs before Christmas I'm sure 🎄😉
Well done as always, you need a parts washer machine, any sponser?
Keep going.
Great video! Did the same with my R53 a few days ago. Swapped mine over for another one and serviced it before replacing

God I love a supercharger whine🥰. Sounds awesome m8. Good work.
Need more mini videos!
if you want to keep heat when you are parking car inside, you should get PVC strip curtains
Awesome little car, awesome video! Love from Scotland
I love your content man. I find your attention to detail commendable and I love seeing you fix these awesome rides! Keep it up!

I bet if you had to pay someone to do this job it would break the bank Great Job!!!
0:37 is that a SUPRA?!
Brilliant video mate
Does it need a new belt with the smaller pulley ?
Nice video! That job looked like a massive ball ache 😂 love the supercharger sound.
Thanks.
could you fix the bearings in case you dont want to buy another supercharger?
Great job, you did it right. Just next time @ 50k use anaerobic gasket sealer for the PTO plate. They are two perfectly matched plates because of the gears.
So, was the new water pump as hard and noisy to move as the old one?
Nope
any new videos on the volvo coming soon?
Really good job
Almost 100k! Big GG man! ;)
Dude! Nice R53, I didn’t realise you had one. I have a JCW and I love it :-)
You can buy a JCW SC pulley removal tool....its designed specifically for the JCW Superchargers....
Great work!!!! stepping in bear poop is always good luck...LOL Always wonderee what the inside of the super charger looked like! Thanks
I hope there's going to be more r53 content. I've just got one myself 🙂
