A 15%, 16% or 17% supercharger on an otherwise stock R53 MINI will deliver ~15HP-20HP performance increase.
Mod MINI love your channel. Just picked up an 06 S JCW.
i love u
Does the midrange & drivability feel better with the pulley upgrade ?
Also , which pulley do you recommend ?
For example , 15% , 17%
or other ?
🏁
And accompanying modifications or components ?
🏁
Well Done & great tutorial.
THANK you in advance !
Frank from Connecticut😎
Great video clip indeed
I just installed the 15% pulley on my stock 03 mini. I owned the car for about 6 month now and I defiantly notice a significant gain in power. Not so much that it's now way faster or anything, just that if I am climbing a hill; I now have the power to accelerate a significant amount more. The job took be about 3 hours maybe 3.5 including clean up. I made sure to have all the tools I would need and I already had watched this video about 5 times. I am incredible happy with this this mod. I used the Craven Speed pulley because they had a better package deal including the stock pulley puller. Thank you so much for making me these awesome videos making all our lives so much better. So happy to be apart of the Mini family
+Luke Roberts Cravenspeed is a good pulley and it's really a no-brainer mod. The car
is so much nicer - you get about 20HP boost from this mod.
A crank pully?
Stock crank pulley is fine.
It would only run leaner at wide open throttle and not enough to worry about unless you are taking car to race track every weekend. Just a pulley won't hurt anything. If you start adding other mods, you should consider getting a tune. Most engine failures for this generation MINI even for modified MINIs are connecting rod bearings, nothing to do with exhaust gas temperatures.
Hey Mod MIni! thanks so much for all that you do. I was curious of what knowledge you had about the lifespan of an r53 supercharger. I have 92XXX miles on my 04 mini and am interested in doing a 15% reduction. How can I expect this to effect the life of the blower ?
i dont believe i watched the entire video when I dont even own a mini cooper! A damn fine informative video tho!
I am going to change my belt tensioner in about a week time. Thanks to your video, I am confident I can tackle this DIY. You are the best!!
Just finished up my belt tensioner and 17% pulley. Your video gave me the confidence to do it myself. Thank you!
I bought a real fixer upper mini, so I have been watching this channel a lot. I have been sitting here ordering parts and just listing to him talk is very relaxing.
Your videos are crazy detailed and I love it. I don't currently own a mini, but have been looking at and researching for potentially getting one as a fun spirited daily driver since I have a 40 minute drive to and from my current work. The chain vise grip around the pulley as well as the vice grip around the belt are two very clever ideas to make the job much easier that I certainly would not have though of. I do like how you walked through the task all the way to the end to ensure that everything was put back in place properly. Your videos are filled with pertinent information to the task and not much else. Your edits show everything I would like to see if I was simultaneously working on the car while watching you videos. and nothing that is unnecessary. I wish that ever RUclips DIY video was this helpful. Keep up the good work.
I don't understand why the chain vice grip is used/needed. The pulley tool has a hex section that one could put a wrench on to hold it.
Thanks Mod MINI for taking the time to make these videos! So helpful, professionally done and straight to the point. What a relief compared to the others out there! Merch looks pretty cool, too!
It’s really nice to see someone that knows what they are doing. Good job, thanks
Once again, just finished installing a 17% pulley, updated intercooler & induction kit to my S by following your tutorial. Wonderful help as usual! My wife's Cooper is now a good bit quicker off the mark along with more torque & much better on the hills. Once again, you are a saviour! Cheers again. Leigh.
Just replaced my SC pulley (15%) this weekend with the help of your vid, thanks! Wanted to add that i used a big zip tie to clamp the pulley tool down to the oem pulley and it worked great (didnt have access to that heavy duty chain grip you have haha). I hand turned it and muscled it out haha.
Nicely done. Just refreshing to see short, sweet, to the point, and free of ridiculous dialog. Very cool! Now subscribed!
Did this yesterday. Following you step by step instructions made it easy. Thank you!
Did this today and it sure woke up the car (2nd gear pull feels great!). I did snap one of the small pulley Cravenspeed bolts when installing the new pulley Didn't use a torque wrench (my mistake) but a quick trip to home depot solved that issue. I will say, the chain vice grip tool is a great add-on to my tool box. One issue I ran into was getting the engine high enough to clear the pulley. I had my jack more towards the middle of the car, which didn't provide enough tilt. Also changed the oil filter housing gasket while I was in there. Thanks for the videos. Gene & Jude's hot dogs on me if you're ever in Chicago.
I'm on my third watch of this, before I attempt this job on my '04 R53. I have everything except thread lock, so will get some of that. It's cost me way more in buying the required tools I didn't have than to pay a garage to do it, but of course tools last a lifetime and experience stays with you.
Thanks for the detailed video, confidence in my ability to do this grows with each watch. The only part I'm really afraid of is getting the stock pulley off. I've bought an impact gun and a chain vise grip specifically for doing this.
Just wanted to post a quick note and say thinks for making this video. I installed my pulley tonight with no problems, thanks to your info. I appreciate it.
Thanks for a great tutorial, your video walked me through replacing supercharger pulley, belt & tensioner and idler pulley with no problems at all. :-)
After watching your videos. I decided to buy a 2006 coopers auto transmision . 80k miles blown motor wish me luck.wrenching my whole life never worked on a mini. My motto what one man can do another can do!
Fitted a 19% kavs pulley today. Your video helped me loads . Great video. Thanks 👌
Thanks again!!!!! Did the pulley, plugs and tensioner! AGAIN!!! Your videos are the best!
I made my own belt tool from plan I found in the Hayes repair manual!
Thank you for the in depth video on how to change the supercharger pulley.🦄
Before I forget thanks for the tip you gave me with the stuck Mini Cooper door, I did what you said and got it open, your an awesome tech.
Victor Oliveira Haha, yeah that's one of those tricks you just gotta know, like of like whacking the side of an old 1970s TV to jostle the vacuum tubes a bit and get a better picture. :-)
***** What is this stuck door trick? Mine can sometimes do that so would be good to know. This video came at the perfect time, doing my SC pulley this month!
Kyle Diodati His door wouldn't open at all. I advised to whack with palm of the hand near the door latch. To avoid further sticking, lubricate the mechanism. Good luck with your pulley install. The chain vise grip is really the key to ensuring the pulley comes off cleanly.
I just did mine 17% pulley + K060532 belt + iridium spark plugs + MSD coil, plugs + Alta tensioner stop, thanks bro.
Hi , thanks a lot for this video . I made this mod yesterday and everything was ok . Big difference between before and now .
+Thierry GARNIER It is the best MINI mod ever. No brainer. More power with almost no down side.
Excellent video.
As a Mini virgin, I bought a 180K mile 2004 JCW in 2018 with the following "upgrades"; New Clutch, Pressure Plate and Flywheel, New Struts, springs, shocks and ball joints, New Radiator Support, All new engine gaskets, New Battery, New belts and hoses, New Belt Tensioner, New plugs and wires, New Supercharger and Water Pump, New Motor Mounts, New Starter, New front axles, New Windshield, New Clutch slave cylinder, New Hood Struts, New Brake Calipers, Alta 17% Undersized Supercharger Pulley, ATI 2% Oversized Super Damper, Alta Intercooler gaskets, M7 Speed Cold Air Intake, Adjustable Short Shifter, Konig Wheels." It was done by a BMW enthusiast who built it up to 254 Hp and played with it for a year and then decided to move on to another project and put it up for sale.
It has run extremely well for 6K miles until recently when I noticed an increase in engine noise from the right side and then on a trip the belt tensioner broke and trashed the damper. I had the ATI damper rebuilt and installed a new belt tensioner and belt. I had hand turned all the pulleys and all seemed smooth before the belt was installed, and it starts and runs well but the noise I had noticed seems even louder now. I’ve listened to the flat idler pulley, the alternator, the supercharger, and the pivot end of the belt tensioner with a mechanics stethoscope at idle and the noise from the tensioner pivot is the highest followed by the body of the supercharger just below it. I posted a video of the damper and belt running at idle with the noise from them and the top of the engine at ruclips.net/video/qiYHEkcYGlI/видео.html I hoped that the earlier noise was from the tensioner that failed, but now I wonder if the tensioner failure was a result rather than a cause. Is there a good way to know if the supercharger is the source of the noise or if something else is being telegraphed through the engine? Also, would an Alta tensioner stop save the damper if the belt or tensioner fails in the future? The tensioner main casting broke in half and what was left of the belt looked like a bird's nest.
Excellent video tutorial, dude! I have just bought a low miles 2005 S & I am going to do this & a bunch of other mods! Cheers. Leigh.
Very informative and well made video! Thank you very much for taking the time and explaining everything!
You made it look so easy but it took me a good 3-4 hours!
What a great video. Clear with good video. Thank you very much for taking the time to put this together.
Well done with all the descriptive repairs!!! You've more than guided me through a few projects.
I found that the 060535 pulley belt was far too loose and the 532 was far too tight and a nightmare to get installed. I gave up on it. What I did find was a Continental 6 rib micro v belt 060539 that fit perfectly on the 17% (alta) pulley. It left the top hole on the tensioner perfrctly viewable with the top of the second jost barely covered.
I'm sure it would support a 16% also.
Just thought it might be helpful for future viewers
Fantastic video ModMINI! Ordering my 15% pulley and all the goodies from Way. Cant wait to tear up my new Michelins! Thanks!
Great video! I'm thinking about grabbing an R53 soon, and was curious how involved this install was. Looks like you've gotten super comfortable with it!
Amazing video! I’ve got all the parts for this job with the exception of the pulley tool and the chain vice grips, doing this job soon!
Thank you for putting up with me.I really appreciate you helping me. I could not have done it with out you. Thank you sir.
Great guide! Doing a 15% pulley, belt, tensioner stop & colder plugs today!
How was the drive after ? :)
No complaints. You can feel a 15% pulley for sure, but it won’t transform the car. It’s honestly not even 15% more powerful, but the supercharger is certainly at least 15% louder. I’ve had this 2002 R53 from new, and I still love it.
@@NoahTheFacts thank you if I go stage one , my local tuning place will fit 15% step colder spark plugs' and ecu remap same time ! Already have stainless cat back exhust ! I've had de cat mini before and and was rtoo loud for me I'm 40 now ! Haha Thanks again :)
I’m 45. I replaced the exhaust from the cat-back with the Borla Refined. It is only very slightly louder than stock. Not that even stock was ever quiet. But these things sound better than I ever expected a 98 ci 4 cylinder to.
Great video. I referenced this to install a 15% WMW pulley. The issue I ran into was my engine didn't raise up quite as much as this particular Mini's did...Once the engine stopped raising, I stopped with the jack. Too much stress was being put on the bottom radiator connection...I had to make clearance on the body seam to thread the pulley removal tool bolt in straight.
Crank pulley can get in the way. Adjusting where you put the jack on the oil pan can sometimes help. Or loosen the bolt on the transmission mount to allow things to move left just a little.
Your videos have been invaluable. Thanks so much for this content.
This is a great channel.. thanks for all the videos!
Watched this video before doing my pulley and it was a huge help! If anyone is looking for a clam shell puller tool message me!
Just did this today! Your tutorial was great.
Someone get this guy a medal 👌
Did mine yesterday. Access to pulley is easy, problem I had was the threads got stripped in the pulley removal tool, luckily i drilled the tool and retapped to m14 rather than the 12 it was and then it was fine. Very very tight fit though.
Best videos about MINI))
Hey Kurt, first off thank you for all of the videos you post. They have gone a long way to helping me keep Gustav a happy and healthy MINI. I must ask, the colder plugs which are linked here, when I go into Amazon, they say it wont fit my R52S and that i need the BKR6EQUP instead of the BKR7EQUP plugs which are linked. I know you're a careful guy so I just thought I'd ask for my own peace of mind before I put them in the car. Again thank you for these vids!!!
They don't say they fit because the recommendation is for stock. If you are modifying, ou should use the colder plugs which are the same ones that go on a JCW R53.
Gotcha. Thank you for that clarification!! Im putting them in.
Don't forget to mention in this video that JCW R53 has a different Size Pulley. I almost got the wrong tool for the job, but great video.
thanks for the video, i had a different puller so I had to use a bracket style puller, that was a pain
Perfect How to Video! Thanks very much!! Work great!
By the way, I did the pulley removal with the help of a swivel oil filter wrench as I dont have such a Chain Clamp.
That's a good idea.
What size oil filter wrench? seems more useful to purchase than a chain clamp
Mod mini you are the best, I followed everystep that you did and I did it thanks to you!!🎉 thanks a million! And godbless u bro👍
I don’t even own a Mini Cooper but this was an interesting video. Nice job.
Thanks Kurt, another great video. I noticed you using a spanner for one of the tensioner bolts. Very novel and old fashioned for you!
The bent nose pliers to remove the leads is a great tip, Thanks!
Watching you tighten the plugs made me cringe, are you sure you need them that tight (1/2 turn) on a alloy head?
Matthew - MrMini Haha, sometimes a spanner is all that fits, but I use a ratcheting one when I can.
The R53 is known for throwing plugs, so in this case slightly tight is better than slightly loose. I don't blindly tighten to 1/2 turn - I am feeling as I go and probably tightening to around 25 lb-ft.
I love the videos! Thank you for providing them! Question? Since I have the tensioner out of the way and can see the front drain plug for the supercharger should I suck the oil out and put in new oil on the front side of the super charger?
+Robert Williams You can do that, but the one that gives you problems is the rear PTO chamber. The chamber and fill volume is much smaller. The only way to access that fill port is to remove the water pump. You have to remove the supercharger to remove the water pump.
Like all your vids ! you know what you are doing ! keep up the great work !!
you make it look so easy, i will try it when i need to.
Hi ModMini, excellent video and love your work. I'm looking at changing the pulley on my 02 R53 it has 183xxx k's on it, do you recommend a 15 or 16% pulley? (Which is best) I just street drive it and not really that hard and just thought its a great mod to do! Will there be a noticeable increase in the supercharger wine?? That's really why I'm doing the job. I want to hear that wine😁 thanks again
@@5SpeedFix CAI and aftermarket IC will make it whine loud over 4k... my CAI was DIY cutout back of airbox, tap in 3" pvc for mounting flange inside airbox, K&N straight round Airfilr, additionally cut out the backwall behind airbox top, i sealed everything up by extending the sides of airbox with sheetmetal into and thru backwall with weather striping to seal it off and prevent hot engine air fron intruding..... aftermarkt IC was 90, CAI costs were about 45 and for looks i got fiberglass cowl scoops. I Also have done the one ball exhaust mod that compliments the CAI, i dont have a pulley mod (YET) and my SC SCREAMS over 4k and i have noticeable and improved acceleration....... prob not as much as a pulley mod , but its been interesting to see what does improve performance
Excellent tutorial! Watching these vids from the UK and much appreciated. Just a quick question....What cordless impact wrench/driver do you use and can you set the torque?
+Neil Anything Li-Ion 18v with 1/4" quick release chuck works great. Torque is not adjustable but not an issue with experience. The longer you run it, the more tightening torque you get.
Thank you for the vids.perfect tutorials.I've been working on cars since 1990, and Mod MINI is better than chilton's manuals.
Anything is better than Chilton manuals... lol
Thank you for your awesome videos, they've helped me put an 05 mini cooper s that my brother in law took apart back together. One problem I can't seem to find the answer to is how do you remove an after market 15% pully? He installed it too far forward and it shreds the belts. The kit he installed is a 3 piece pully called ULTRIK 3-piece supercharger pulley from mini mania. Also, once removed, what would be the best way to figure out the correct positioning? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
I had to cut mine off with a grinder, worked a treat, it is the wreckless way to do it no doubt but as long as you're vigilant you can do it without creating too much heat. Tried all other alternatives.
Hi Kurt, your videos are well thought out and extremely helpful. Thanks for all the content!
A question: do you need to remove the left side engine mount before you lift or lower the engine? Or is it enough to just remove the right side mount as you did in the video?
Transmission side mount stays attached but removing it can help give space but be mindful entire weight of drivetrain will be on the floor jack
@@ModMINI Thanks! I already replaced the pulley tho. Btw I'm getting a P0171 code now. INPA says (in EMS2K) that the "long fuel trim adjustment" is off by -1.5% Is this normal?
What do you recommend if supercharger is off?? Thx love your videos
Helpful as always! I have a squeaking noise, that I was 'told' - by a Mini dealer - is the tensioner pulley. So, I found your last video: (on replacing the harmonic balancer) VERY helpful, and figured I'd check with you again for replacing the tensioner pulley. The tensioner pulley doesn't 'look' all that hard. HOWEVER... I've been unknowingly spraying the supercharger pulley with lithium grease. I quietens for a short bit, but starts up again. Now I'm worried it's NOT the tensioner pulley and instead the supercharger pulley!! What are your thoughts?! Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Hi what spark plugs you recommend between Ngk iradum ix or the one in your video. Iradiums are newer but do you have any experience with both?
Will add 15% pulley and alta AIr intake
Nice video and commentary. Thanks.
Love your videos, they have been helping me with my 03 R53 project car. One question. The car has a WMW 16% pulley and I need to remove it to send out to have work done and not quite sure how to comes off yet. Is there a special tool or trick? There are bunch of videos on installing but nothing for removing them except the stock pulley. Thanks!
Figured it out! mine was stuck. The 4 jacking bolts did not pop it off had to use a little heat and a brass punch and it popped off. Keep up the great videos!
Very instructive video. When you install the new supercharger pulley does it align itself on the supercharger shaft, or do you have adjust it after you install the new belt tensioner and the belt?
The pulley if installed correctly requires no adjustment.
thank you for the video, very helpful information being shared here! :)
Love your video's! Thanks
well i wanted to swap pulleys but now i know how hard it is
Don't be a pussy !! Is not that hard.
It's not hard m8
Hey don’t get overwhelmed. I know it looks hard but take a step back, you’ll notice that it’s just a bunch of nuts and bolts. So get some motivation and go out and swap your pulleys!
I didn’t pull the motor out like that
My mini has a shuddering problem when I step on the gas to get up to speed on the highway, I am thinking it could be the supercharger pulley? It also squeals sometimes. Do you think it could be the supercharger pulley??? Thanks
Well done. Very informative.
Hey mod mini, considering getting the 16% pulley,im just wondering do u need upgrade the intercooler when doing this mod,car wont be tracked or anything so will the stock one be fine, some opinions are that u have to change intercooler aswell
Great informative video. I've heard that if you go ahead with the pulley reduction without a tune, that the power may eventually deteriorate, even suffer. just curious if this has any merit of truth to it?
Not really. The pulley adds so much power. There will be maybe some adaptation, but still tons of power over a car without a pulley.
After taking the car for a drive, first with stock airbox and clean filter, then with pipercross induction kit I can definitely say the pipercross pulls better at higher rpm with pulley mod
how good is the stock pulley? do they have problems? ive heard from a buddy that alot of people have problems with them.
Really enjoyed all your videos. Very detailed and informative. I’m installing cravenspeed 17% pulley next week on a 2003 S 6 speed with EWP80 water pump. I’m planning on doing an AC delete without installing an AC delete pulley. Would you happen to know the Belt Part Number I will need. Look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

This is a great video. Thank you for posting it. I just purchased my 04 JCW and this is going to be the first thing I do. It looks like you are in Washington state also, hopefully I can see yours.
Yup, I've done dozens of these. Good luck.
Oh yeah, JCW has a smaller pulley. Be sure to get the correct size pulley puller.
Wanna oversee me change it? I'll buy the beer and pay for your time!
Or since you have done so many, could you send me an estimate what you would charge me to do mine?
Send me email @ k u r t @ Hammond JP dot C0M
I have a 2004 mini s I just installed a 17% pulley an a Valero clutch. Your vids were excellent. One question I have is my idle go's high and low now. Is there something I need to do fix that.
You probably have a vacuum leak somewhere.
So helpful!! Thank you very much
Hi I followed your advice from your excellent video and all seemed to go well. 15% pulley on with correct belt and one grade cooler plugs. Otherwise the 2003 r53 is stock. reset the ECU before driving. Straight away it ran rough and the DSC light was on from 1st start-up. I pulled over, turned off and re-started, then the check engine light came on as well. And this is how it has stayed. It doesn't stall but idles rough. Plug electrodes are white. Fault codes are 2270, 0107 and 0113. Does this indicate anything to you that you have come across before? Thanks
I have no idea. Make sure plug wires are on the correct plugs, double check all disturbed connections, ensure belt is tight and pulley is tight and not slipping on supercharger snout.
That was awesome great video I'm always learning something, i was just wandering what's your fastest time doing a new pulley install, I'm guessing you can do it in under an hour.
Victor Oliveira I think I did this one including video recording in about 1h15m, I could probably do it in under an hour, less if I don't remove the belt tensioner, but after having my tool fail on me one time, I err on the side of caution. (Having to grind off a pulley is not fun)
Awesome
Hey Mod MINI, I did the pulley swap a few weeks ago, and also changed out the stock belt tensioner with the Gates part in your description. After driving around for a while, and pushing the car pretty hard, I am noticing that in some gears, when I floor it, my RPM jumps before the car really engages. Do you think this is a faulty tensioner causing the belt to slip, or the super charger pulley slipping on the snout shaft? Thanks for your opinion on this. (When I look at the my tensioner, I cannot fully see the first hole, it is about half the hole, as you talk about at 16:55).
Probably need tighter belt. Not sure but last few 060535 I installed felt loose. I moved the idler pulley to the next hole over.
would you still recommend the 535 belt for a 16 % sc pulley and 4 % overdrive crank pulley ?
Question, doing a pulley mod will make the mpg go south? I mean thats what I heard but i would like your input since you have more experience. I really wanna do this mod but I drive a lot to and from work and gas is expensive this days.
Frank Nativi Yes, obviously anything that adds power will cause lower fuel mileage if you use that power. If you stay out of it, your fuel economy will be mostly unchanged. I get 30+mpg cruising on a flat freeway at 60mph, but mileage takes a dive when I go wide open throttle.
I apologize in advance if this is a silly question - I am planning to so the Supercharger service on my 2006 Mini Cooper S - should I change the pulley while the SC is off the engine or when its back in the car?
Easier off the car obviously.
Hey Mod MINI, you seem to recommend a 15% reduction pulley for street spirited driving - however, multiple different sources (namely Amazon/Ebay) pulley description recommend using a 17% for street driving because, unlike the prolonged use of the SC on the track - street driving will NOT generate as much heat. Do they have a point? More importantly does intercooler upgrade solve the "running lean" problem or just addresses the heat issue? Is the only way to modify combustion mixture is to MOD the computer?
It doesn't pass the sniff test to me. It's not just heat generation, but also heat dissipation and how the car will perform in stop/go driving. At lower speeds, there isn't enough air flow to remove heat, especially when you are sitting and waiting at a light. Only way to correct a lean situation is to retune the computer. Do you have a lean running condition? Computer should run fine with mild modification but at some point it will not be able to compensate.
Hi, I was wondering how to diagnose a tensioner or idler pulley that's on it's way out. Just got a '05 MCS and there's a noticeable high pitch whine, that will vary with revs. At first, I thought it was the SC, but I doubt it's that loud.
Once again, thanks for the amazing content!
Remove belt and spin by hand.
Have you done the supercharger oil service and transmission fluid change?
I’m interested in getting more power out of my 2005 mini s R52. Not doing any racing just want more power on the street. What is the metal box to the right of the coolant reservoir?
hey mod mini,
Do you think it is absolutely necessary to do a reprogramming when you mount a pulley 17% ?
I have a mini cooper s r53 with 17 pulley, decat manifold, and miltech exhaust, new charger fitted, and only getting 10psi of boost? No leaks.
Any idea what it can be.
Thanks
great video thanks for sharing
I need to replace my belt only as it is stretched out. After you removed the belt, is the enough room to put another one one with out lifting the engine, etc?
Aloha from Hawaiʻi!!! Is it crucial to replace the belt tensioner? I know you suggested it... I have an ʻ04 S with 83,000 miles on it... Mahalo for your time!!!
Have you compared the other kind of pulley puller, the two-piece that clamps all the way around and relies on a steering wheel puller? There's only these two types to choose from, right?
When I saw the problem with the clam shell pulley remover needing a chain vise grip to keep it from flexing, and it made me want to try the Alta type. That worked really well as far as holding the pulley, but I ran into trouble because my puller was too cheap. I stripped the threads on the puller screw of not one but two Lisle 45500 harmonic balancer pullers. I had much better luck with the horizontal bar type --- one that looks like Performance Tool W80651 or OEM Specialty Tools 27017. I had to file the slot a bit wider to line up the bolts.
Either tool still has the problem of the last 1/8". The puller won't get past the bodywork so you have to bang it off with a hammer. Maybe you could make room by unbolting the transmission mounts and letting the engine swing freely to the driver's side, rolling on the jack wheels or an engine hoist chain. That would probably only be worth it if for some reason you needed the old pulley to come off in perfect shape.
I was just wondering if you had compared more than one kind of pulley remover.
Two piece seems like there will be interference - things are tight even with the one piece puller. The one piece works fine as long as you put a chain vise on it. Mine has been used to remove over 20 pulleys, and while the center bolt is certainly worn, the puller itself is in fine shape. I've only ever had problem with the last 1/8" on the automatic R53 which moves the engine over to the right slightly due to the bulky automatic transmission. On those, it helps to remove the crankshaft pulley (harmonic balancer) to allow the engine more room to jack up. (or remove transmission mount and support engine with a couple of jacks)
Hey Mod Mini, very informative video. I had a major problem with finding the correct sized puller. None of them fit my pulley. Looked around and found that sometime there could be Peugeot parts in the engine? Who knows? I just need some advice on how to cut the pulley off without damaging the shaft. Thank you
This is a Daimler Chrysler engine, not Peugot. You can use a disk grinder to cut off the pulley. Spray water intermittently to avoid melting the seal.
Hi, do you know how to remove stuck hydraulic lifter tappets in the rocker arm thanks 😊
I'm planning on servicing the s/c on my 05 MCS and pulling it out completely to change the oil as I don't believe its ever been changed. Would removing the pulley be easier while the charger is in the car still or out of the car? I figured I will do the pulley mod at the same time as the s/c oil change.
+Andrew Rao Obviously, easier when off the car.
Hi. I was wondering where to buy the belt tensioner since the Amazon one is out of stock. I looked around briefly and found a couple just didn’t know if they were reliable
Hello mod mini I'm gonna install super charged pulley reduce 15% on my mini mc40. do you think that ill need to put a bigger intercooler? I have the intercooler stock
incredible video, you are very good at what you do, sir.
lol i just got lost on youtube, watched the whole video. Dont even have a car
Why you changed the supercharger Pulley . I have a noise on mi R53 and I already change the Idle pulley , but that was not the issue, I don't know if the noise come from the Tensioner pulley of from the supercharger,
