Wrist guards are a MUST for grown-ups. We need our wrists. (I put mine on over my FItBit watch and it works okay, but I also have child-sized wrists despite the rest of me being adult-sized. If you've done dancing, yoga, or martial arts, the balance from those can help. (Doing "weird" stuff like standing on one foot while cooking or refilling your water bottle or whatever can also help improve balance.) Martial arts background (or being a lifelong klutz) also helps with falling more safely.
Those are some great tips, Neliza Drew! I enjoy yoga! My favorite balancing pose is tree pose. For some reason, that position really helps me to get centered. When I would experience anxiety at an old job, I would go into an empty room and practice tree pose. I also like your idea of using other opportunities to balance too.
Thank you so much for this. I went skating at a rink last night for the first time in years. I started inline skating outdoors in college and packed up my skates the past 20 plus years except for once when my kids were young. I forgot how fun it is! I really did feel energized when I came back home, even though it was late. Today I do notice a certain energy. So yeah, it does help. I skated about 2 hours and I did work up a sweat. Going to try skating in my neighborhood on the street. We'll see how that goes :-D
@Michelle Wright, this is great to hear! Skating at the rink after so long must’ve been fun. It’s a perfect place to practice. I know you will enjoy skating in your neighborhood and other beautiful places you explore too. Thanks for sharing! 🙏🏾💕✨
Roll bounce is the best skate song for me, Push it, Double dutch bus and Wanna be starting something. I have not skates in over 20 years and I have forgotten how and do not trust to just skate like I did with riding a bike I had not rode a bike either, but bought a bike and rode like I was always riding, but skating seems different. Still I love skating and thank you for sharing, 💯❤️ I hope this summer I too will get back at it.
Thanks for mentioning gear because I did feel a bit embarrassed at the rink being the only one who brought stuff. I put on my writs guards because I figured they were the most likely to be needed and sure enough, I had a crash and had to catch myself and they came in handy. I will definitely wear full pads when I skate outside on pavement. If I stick with it, I'll invest in a helmet and buy a new heel brake too. Apparently I discarded it as a youngin' or I lost it. Who knows.
You're welcome! That song you introduced me to is doing amazingly well! I was driving yesterday and saw another driver singing it with great passion. It's definitely a hit!
A friend pointed out that the beauty of rediscovering skating is that it's a form of play! No wonder it elevates our mood. It's like flying!
Yes! We need play so much in our daily lives. Love this!
64 in the house! Haven’t skated since I was 14. I’m loving it, and yes I wear all protective gear.
Yes! Love it! 😍 Happy Skating @jholly5884!! 🛼🛼
Glad to know 60s skating is still a thing. Going for it too.
Good to see other women in their 40's skating! It can be intimidating but better to just get out there and have fun!

Oh yes! That’s a great song! I hope you skate this summer too. If you do, I hope you’ll share your experience. Enjoy! 🙏🏾💕
You're right, yesterday was my first skate lesson and my thighs and calves were so sore this morning... Ouch. I've used muscles I didn't know I had.
Haha! I know that's right! Keep up the good work!

Cool! Yes, it’s definitely worth the effort to skate knowing you’re less likely to injure yourself. Glad to hear the wrist guards came in handy!
32 here. Definitely wear protective gear.
Absolutely! Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for the shoutout!
