The massive stump you pulled out of the dirt, I could never have left that behind either. What a stunning piece. My eyes just about popped out of my head when Iv saw it cleaned up.
So many wicked finds...I’m almost speechless!! All that colourful, agatized pet wood was ridiculous!!!! I love it all! What are you going to do with that gorgeous stump?? And I agreed, those bubbly agates are amazing!
Kate, you've outdone yourself again! :) I love all the pet wood you find & it seems like it gets more & more awesome looking with every video. I think I'm going to have to talk my wife into a road trip this summer. The Yellowstone River has been calling my name for a few months, now, so I hope my wife will be able to hear it, too! Thanks for the great videos! It helps keep the winter blues away. By the way, I like the Mr. Did part - Jim does a great job carrying rocks for you & even finding some good ones, too. I guess I'm partial to him - he's got a great name! Keep on hunting! Jim
Poor Mr Did, I used to do the same with my grampa. He’d find rocks on our outings and I’d be like, um, no. No on that one too. Nope. Yeah, that’s a good one. He’d get so frustrated with me. I miss my Opa. Mr Did and your responses reminded me of my precious time with my Opa. Great memories. And dang it!!! I want that stump you found. Couldn’t believe you were initially going to leave it. Love your videos. Thank you for sharing all of them. Rock on!!
My wife and i went to the beach at Oceanside after a winter storm . there were car size rocks surrounded by 2 to 3 foot deep pools of water .one guy had chest waders and got two 5 gallon buckets of blue agates the size of cantalope .we went to another beach up north and my wife found one the size of a big potato.
Thanks for interspersing the shots of wet/cut specimens with the original finds...as a watcher it's 10x more satisfying but I know it's lots more editing work
I bought about a 10lb. piece of petrified agate wood at a estate sale for one dollar. It's a stunning piece with lots of bright colors. The bark in the piece looks almost perfect. It has so much detail to it. You uploaded this video at the right time. I was searching for videos on the topic. Nice finds.
Haha you made me laugh your pockets are full of unsuspected agates ; I sometimes forget to unpack my pockets and find my jacket way to heavy to lift in the morning oops .
:) Do kilts have pockets?! Just kidding. My husband emptied out my pockets when he borrowed my jacket the other day - apparently he doesn't like five extra pounds of beautiful rocks in his coat.
You two really found the petrified wood on this outing. I am getting a kick out of Jim emptying his pockets and putting the keepers in your backpack. I hope he carried the 28 lb rock for you. Keep on doing!
I love this window into your discoveries, did this for many years...I might have caused a slight tilt in earths... hey...you gotta get Jim some new hiking shoes... smh
My 1st show of yours. I love your enthusiasm and ability to find these big agates. I wish that when you find an article, you would play your camera on it in situ before you show it to the camera. When your camera pans, it doesn't show you picking it up from where you see it. Thanks again and I subscribed because I love your enthusiasm so much!! Glad I found your channel.
Thank you, Cynthia! I have been trying to make sure viewers can try to spot the agate (or whatever) themselves first, but it is sometimes difficult - I get so excited! :D
Amazing video as always. I love days where the petrified wood is abundant! I love Mr. Did’s rockhounding adventure at the end! Keep up the good work sir! The petrified stump was awesome, can’t wait to see that slabbed!! (Assuming you do so) Do I hear the makings of a lump, ,bumpy agate song in our future??!!
We had a big blizzard and sub-zero weather in the middle of October (before the leaves fell). After that, the temps have been up and down, with a little snow, but not much.
Just stubbled across your channel & subscribed. I'd have been taking that stump home too ! Make's me wonder why there is sooo much petrified wood on that beach !?!? Nice to have someone who likes rock hunting with you, sounds like a keeper ! Happy Hunting ! :~)
There is a ton of petrified wood in that area. I always thought the Yellowstone petrified wood came from the Yellowstone National Park area, but maybe there is a petrified forest closer by. I will check it out.
I love love love that petrified wood stump!! That is awesome! Someday I hope to make it out that way to find some of my own. Thank you for another adventure! Keep on doin!
That was awesome. Such great finds, as always. My husband agrees with me that we have to make a trip out there to rockhound. And you guys are a lot like us. Im the rockhound and hubby goes along just to spend time with me and maybe pick up a few rocks to show me. He also will carry the backpack if it gets too heavy. I love it.
If you have never been to Bishops Castle in Colorado you should go see it . Mr Bishop built it by himself for the last 51 years. It’s made of rocks that he has picked up off the Colorado mountains it’s really something to see. Do a search on Bishop Castle and take a look at it.
Yes, you are probably right - but a lot of the sites I hunt are far from the car, and I feel like dragging a cart miles overland just isn't in the cards.
You have so much petrified wood there that it seems to grow on trees.{ I couldn't help myself } Beautiful finds. You and your husband both found gems. Each other.
That is why in the 60's, 70's, 80's and even 90's there were rock shops all over Montana, Idaho and Wyoming had roxk shops from 1 end to the other side. I spent summers in west yellowstone as a kid and our family's Indian jewelry store was next door to a space that had been a rock shop. It was a fly fishing shop in 76 but i was behind it for a month picking rocks. Then trying flies the rest of the summer. Pretty stones everywhere so i rarely fish....i look for rocks

This was awesome. Wife and I and another couple heading up in May to do a little rock hounding. We are sphere makers and are going to try and find a couple of big ones if possible.
Montana, big sky country, and even bigger petrified wood country!!! Nice agatized pieces too!!! so awesome. On the other hand, lets talk about Mr Dids rock hounding skills..... your husband is not as bad of a rockhound as he was a year ago, but he still picks up a lot of... well.... brown rocks that should stay at the river lol. It makes me laugh because you are the one making his decisions for him, as HE JUST DOESN'T KNOW ANY BETTER what to throw in the bucket LOL. But we all know he is the cab master so it evens out in the end ;)
Mr. Did is find only very recently even interested in picking up ANY rocks - he’s learning. We all had to learn at some point. I am grateful that he is interested in learning. And yes - since he rocks at cabbing, it probably doesn’t really matter if he knows what to drag home.
@@KatyDidRocks Hopefully I didnt offend you, I was just kidding around. I figured you put that scene in the end for comic relief (it was actually really funny) and yes we all are learning, Im not knocking him or you, I love your channel and its great that he is getting out and learning the ropes of rockhounding with a great teacher!
I love at the end that Mr did kept pulling rocks out of his pockets and then he would put them into your backpack! Smart man.
Yes - but he had to carry the big one. :D
I can just picture your car...low rider. Hope there are no hernias!
I am sure my daughter in the other room is wondering why I keep saying wow and omg!! and that stump is amazing!!
:D That made me laugh. Thanks, Lauralee!
Ah, the power of words!

That stump would be a 1000 dollar piece at a show, so cool
I am really thrilled with it.

Cool to see how much Jim has taken to the hobby these days, nice to have a hobby you can share.
I am delighted that he has started to be interested. :)
Love the Dids.!!!!
Thanks, Jeanette. :)
That stump was amazing! ♥️♥️♥️
I must say I was thrilled to find it.

Yes, I am going to make sure he has one next time we go out. :D
You go to some of the best spots, Katydid. Gorgeous.
It's hard to go wrong on the Yellowstone. :)
Always a fun time taking a walk in the beach with you guys.👊
Thanks for joining us!
Thank you for a grand vicarious rock hunt. I love your enthusiasm and glee when you find something special. What fun!

That stump is off the charts ❤
The petrified wood is my favourite!! I'd fill my whole garden with it and fill the nooks and crannies with rockery plants and sedums 😁
It really is beautiful.
I see some happy hounders...

He did! He also ran back and got the car, which we had left outside the gate, so we didn't have to haul the rocks quite so far. :)
It's a beastly find for sure nice job kate👍
It was so heavy it was hard to hold up for pictures. :)
Woo-hoo, what fantastic finds!

Love the ending, great rock hunting Mr D.
I'll let him know. :)

Did winter ever really come to Montana this year...It looks absolutely beautiful out there and the agates are growing like weeds
We had a big blizzard and sub-zero weather in the middle of October (before the leaves fell). After that, the temps have been up and down, with a little snow, but not much.
Does this river flood in the spring ?

That stump almost seems like a once in a lifetime find! But I hope not... maybe there will be one waiting for me when I make it down that way?
That area apparently has lots and lots of large wood - I'm sure there's a piece just waiting for you.
Awesome find, Katie! I wonder if a Native American Travois would be helpful for hauling large rocks?
It probably would. Maybe I could hook it up to Kava! :D
Hello from NZ. 🌱🌏💚
I've come over from Agate Anglers channel to have a look.....
Why do people smash the gems? I think it would be more fun to take them home and cut them - mystery prize!
I must agree with you! It always makes me sad when I see smashed rocks. I think mostly people don't know exactly what they are looking for.
Thanks for coming! :)
agates are so beautiful
They are!
What the plan for the stump?
I don't actually know for sure. I think it will fit in my saw - I may saw a chunk off the end so that it sits up straight, and then leave it.
@@KatyDidRocks I think cutting it so it stands up and leaving the rest raw would be best, its quite the trophy.

I think the loopteedooptee agate is a snake skin agate. Very cool.
I looked those up - they sure look similar! Cool!
I envy you that you have the opportunity to hunt for rocks, thumbs up. In Norway we do not have those types of georges stones, not in rivers.
Every area has its own treasure. I bet Norway has something beautiful that you can hunt! But yes, the Yellowstone is full of riches. :)

I am considering it. :D
Wow I cant imagine if I will hunt that place someday.... i like it...

spectacular petrified wood, they are very big compared to what I find in Missouri
And actually quite small compared to some - but I was thrilled to find them.
I guess my favorite agate would be the one I’m holding at the time. 😁
