I was wondering what you did for your landscaping pieces to make them ‘pop’.😍😁
Beautiful! Congrats on your find! Whoo hooo!
Sorry rally late to the party but feel your excitement even if years later! How fun, HOW Fun!
Have liked and subscribed. I feel your excitment!
Roger Spurr's may think like I do, that is a crystallized animal head. Beautiful dude.
It's like a drug to me when rockhounding. When I find something I get a high from it. Does anyone else feel this way.
Oh yeahhhh the addiction is real
Yes it is!
👍
@@AgateDad My guess is not addiction, but the energy of the rock itself that gives the high energy in the hunter
In my opinion, rocks don't do that or have "power"
When I was a kid there was a giant agate , about 5 feet tall and around 3 1/2foot in diameter that was a field we rode bikes in . The colors were amazing , had botryoidal , lace , all that you want in a superior agate , it had been pushed down by glaciers I imagine . I kept trying to get my dad to help get it , he wouldn’t , plus I don’t know how many tons it was . That agate was worth a bunch of money (I had no idea at the time) . There are houses in that area now .
Interesting, should have grabbed it 👍👍
That big one with the beautiful bands going every which way is just magnificent - and all the color variations - WOW!!!
And i love to be able to come along to see what you see and wish I could be there finding goodies.
I really appreciate the fact that you take long, steady looks at your rocks. They are so interesting--and beautiful--we want to spend some time with these amazing finds.
Wow, what a beautiful agate, I’m speechless, those colours and bands. Looking forward to seeing what you are going to do with that one.
I'll explain that a bit in my Q&A video next week!
You have found an agate vein, my friend! WOOHOO!!!😱😆😎😎😎
I want to go back with my tiller..just feel bad digging up that earth so much..kind of lol
Yes you do sound like a crazy person, but that’s ok, we’re all doing it at home 😉💪💪👏🏴
🤣 I'm glad I'm not alone!!
I am so glad I got to see this video, even if it is two years old. That first big banded agate you found is absolutely amazing .. the pure joy in you voice is heartfelt. God bless and thank you for sharing your treasures
Hell yeah, what a day!!! That first rock is an absolute killer one.
Right! Its a stunner!
Love your enthusiasm! And that big agate, that's insanely gorgeous! So happy for you!
Thanks! I was so pumepd!!
Do you know why I watch your channel, Agate Dad? I mean besides that we share a passion for rocks and rock hounding? It's the sheer joy in your voice and your authentic laughter when you discover a new treasure. Rock on, Dad!
I’m happy you can share in the enjoyment!
Wow, Awesome vids, am hooked and have now subscribed, Too cool,,, Thank you for showing us your beautiful finds,,, And loved the Pterodactyl haha
Oh thanks! 😊
That is a true GEM!!!! 🎉
Very cool. I even urban rock hound, lowes parkinglots with the gravel beds and anywhete else that has them. I find alot of agates there too.
Dude, no idea how i missed your comment, so sorry! I have tried looking in urban spots and I havent found much of anything...i have a lead on a rooftop though lol
Nice finds.
Thanks Terry!
Hahahaha hahahaha
I sound like a crazy person!
I think every other rock hound says that.
I confess I talk to the rocks.
They’ve been alone for so long… lol
Stunning, great find woot!!!
All of us are so glad you have rock hounding as a hobby and share it with us. This episode was a killer
Thanks!
Congrats it’s a beauty !!!!!
Nice work Dad
Thanks Justin 👍👍
High praise!!
The highest 🙏
What great finds!
Have to admit I am somewhat envious....
Gotta get out and find some for yourself, if you can, if not, keep coming along with me on these adventures! These are our finds my friend 😁👍
@@AgateDad planning on it. I live in the Thumb area of Michigan. Planning trip to the upper peninsula this summer. Used to live and work up there (was doing geological surveying) and know some good out of way areas to search.
Would love to see your treasures when you get out!
I pick up any size unless to big Lol Nice finds .
True! Hopefully I never find an agate so big, I can't bring it home, that would be heart breaking haha
Congratulations man. That was an amazing find.
Thanks!
orange blue and white agates polished as a kid maple grove gravel pits
Great finds!
Thanks!
You get just as excited as I do haha :)
Thats what I'm talking about Curtis!! Heck yeah!
When you pulled that big fat agate out of the dirt, I totally dorked out! EPIC ROCK!!!!! Nice score. That's a great day!
Haha I'm still dorking out about it 😅
@@AgateDad That was killer! I had a similar reaction when I picked up what looked like a ball of mud to everyone else. I knew what it was. Palm sized, amazingly banded agate. Amite River agate. Not as spectacular color wise, but the banding is gorgeous. If you ever get to Louisiana, lots of agate here.
I absolutely love polished Agates... But OMG I want all those pebbles too
The one at 15:13 is my favorite!
Congrats on the big find man! What's the plan for it? Tumble/hand polish or keep it raw?
Im going to keep that bad boy raw 😁👍👍
Exactly!
@agate dad throw that sucker in some iron out to really make the white pop. It will clean the staining right off
@@skimaster1466 I like that orange staining on this one 👍
@@skimaster1466 that staining looks like it runs within the layers. Perfect alignment. Not like it was just sitting and got stained. Cool though, eh?
Nice rocks. Love the agate. Liked. From Jordan
I love how excited you get when you find cool stuff! I thought I was the only one who got that excited. Great finds, especially that big one!
Ohhhahah no there's a whole flock of us crazy birds out there! Thanks 😊
I get really excited, too!😂 You can often hear me yell out when I find something good!😁
WHOA! You found some very impressive agates in the gravel pit! Beautiful to say the least! Seems you always find cool stuff when oops you've left gear, right? Thank you for sharing!
Isn't that how it goes?!?! Haha thanks for watching 👍
Honestly, I would have forgiven you for turning away from the camera: spitting, wetting your finger then the rocks, or just plain LICKING them, then bring them back into the camera view!🤣
So happy for you Taylor. That first one is a great find
That is a awesome agate so beautiful 😍 I wish I had it. Lol 😂 thanks for taking us out for the adventure. Awesome video.
Thanks so much! As you saw, I may have gone a little crazy when I found it 😜 Appreciate you watching!!
Agate Dad yeah no problem
"Oh mylanta"???? Too funny, my friend. What a beautiful stone and what a day to forget all your equipment. My best finds were always in gravel pits
Haha i know, classic! I'll have to go back with a tiller and a lot of water!
@@AgateDad You know, the fact that you take the time to reply to most of us makes you extra special. I see you are at 3000 subscribers. Yahoo and Congratulations!!!!!!
Thats one of my biggest goals, is to response to all of you, you're all so important and I want you to know it! I actually passed it a bit ago 🤗 it just hasn't updated yet! Thanks for your amazing support 😊
Where did you find a pit that will tolerate agate hunting ! Either you are related to these people or you just haven't been arrested ! I never had any problems until the 90's , after that one pit after a other turned me away ! The companies actually started posting bulletins in their scalehouses and offices reminding employees that they would be fired if they were caught picking agates ! In a few cases a farmer both owned the property and acted as pit foreman ! Eventually the insurance companies put the fear of them into the owner/operators and that was pretty much the end of that unless you did a bit of trespassing. I eventually got caught and it set me back $500.°° bail , which the old boy that owned the property posted for me ! He lived right there and it was a Sunday . His exact words were F em , they cant fire me , I'll tell them to get their crap off my d@#$%d property ! He had hunted with me for awhile , handed me what he had picked up and said they will make some fresh ones starting tomorrow! After that he headed for his house to eat lunch . Told me to stop by and show him what I found and chew the fat before I left . About an hour later I heard the gravel crunching behind me and said I didn't think you was coming back out ! There was no response ! The crunching noise had stopped and I could see a shadow ! It had a " Smokey Bear Hat " on ! I thought , OH , OH ! YEP , it was a Trooper , an employee / truck driver had spotted me out . He was probably there to do the same thing . Instead he figured he would get rid of me once and for all . So he called the law .
The old boy that owned the property not only posted my bail but gave me a ride to an ATM and the impound lot to get my truck back ! He also called the law on the A-hole that had called the law on me eventually! That cost him the same as it cost me plus he lost his job !
It has gotten just to STUPID and competitive at the pits , plus there is to much surveillance these days ! Plus law enforcement has an edict from the Federal Govt to surveil all mining operations much more frequently than before because of the potential theft of explosives ! Even though it is a pretty rare occurrence to find that at a gravel pit , some pits are right along side of and attached to quarries where explosives are to be found !
The Trooper that arrested me was actually quite friendly and told me that he and his dad used to hunt the pits and it never used to be a big deal but times are a changing and those days are never coming back . He told me that the Commander had called the man that owns the construction company and he wanted to make an example of me and to arrest and fully prosecute me . In this farming area , everybody pretty much knows everybody , so when I called the owner to tell him of my plight from the Sherriffs office he told me to put so and so on , he knew him by first name , and he would fix me right up ! Didn't happen ! He actually got schooled ! I could hear him cussing over the phone at my end ! I clearly heard him say , " You mean to tell me I cant walk across my own property and pick up a GD rock ! The answer was, NOPE!
You have to have permission of the Leeser , ie. , the construction company ! He was told they would more than likely tolerate you because they have to maintain a relationship with you but he didn't have the right to let anybody else do that !
GREAT ! TO COMPLICATED !
I GAVE UP AT THE PITS !
THATS ALRIGHT CAUSE I SIT ON NEARLY 1 TON OF LAKERS I HAD PICKED IN THE NEARLY 50 YEARS PRIOR TO THAT !
YEEEEEEEEEE HAAAAAAAAW !
I used to get cranky if I didn't pick at least 15 Lbs in a full day ! Shoot , one day I found 7 big agates in one day ! 4.5 , 2.5 , 2.0 , 1.75 , 1.25 , .75 and
.50 ! Plus nearly 12 lbs of tumbling stuff ! I hit 3 pits that day. It was a Sunday , they had all worked on Sat. , it had been very dry for quite a while and a line of severe , tornado producing thunderstorms had swept through the area about an hour before dark the night before ! Right place , right time ! I found out later on that I was just ahead of another guy who hit a fourth pit I knew about but hadn't got to ! He found 3 big ones that day ! A 3.0 , 2.25 and 1.5 pounders and around 8 lbs tumblers ! He got a late start cause he went to church , spotted me out at the 2and pit I hit , drove around me to the next where I spotted him and drove to another ! Called him that night and traded stories , stuck around til Monday and both of us drove over to Menard Greens who was getting to old to hunt but would get all excited to so new stuff . I've still got 3 of Menards agates right out of his cabinet , a .5lb crazy tuber , a .5lb w/ 12 big double ringed eyes , fully polished and a nearly .5 lb dark Amythest floating center ! . Maynard told me these were some that Scott Walker didn't get ! He lamented selling so many and said that we were probably the last of a breed ! He had so many Lakers that he used the quartz balls for landscaping rock around his house ! It looked pretty cool when he would house them down on a sunny day !
Nothing like picking agates along the shorline and red and blue glass down near Duluth.
You bet!!
Oh my heavens, what beauties!!
Every time I watch I get this terrible urge to go hunting NOW!
Thank you for sharing!! 🙂
Just do it!! Get out there!
I want to go out too, but it’s 6 am and still dark.
Check out all the ayyygets! Dontcha know! (Bobby's modern life reference)
This gravel pit...is it on private property? Or public?
its private with conditions lol There was zero trespassing though, i dont roll like that!
The bands are just amazing! good stuff for sure that big ones got so much going on great finds my man🍻
It really does, thanks man!
I was painting elastomer on my Rv and a black wasp got me yesterday and it still hurts today!

Hey there Agate Dad, Thank you for sharing your finds! I’m from Tacoma WA and I drive all the way to Maryhill State Park on the Columbia river to find small agates , bits of jasper chips and lots of small agate chips which I glue onto bird houses. I love finding bits of pottery also. But what really stokes me is seeing and hearing the elated and well known laugh you do when finding a cool agate! I can so totally relate and it is just so awesome to watch you and Bill laugh and giggle and freeze your fingers off and find so much enjoyment with these beautiful treats. I do hope you tumble them. They turn out even more gorgeous! Glad you are having fun! Wish I lived out there! happy trails kid...

IM DEAD! Killed by shock and awe!

You remembered your jaspers but what about your jacket?.... great finds thx for sharing 👊🏻👍🏻 p.s. that white May turn into the oranges ect just beneath the surface do you plan on cutting it a little?
Haha it was tied around my waist 😅 I plan on leaving that as is 🤘
I just found a Lake Superior agate the size of a can of Chunky Soup in a spot exactly like that, weighs over 2lbs. I'm in Minnesota. Can't wait to slice it.
That’s fantastic!
How did you know that one was an agate? I didn’t see any shine or anything until you cleaned it off? Can I send you a pic of something my mom found on a beach? I think it’s just quartz but what do I know? And where do I send the pic - to your FB page? Thanks!
Yeah that or instagram! I could see the bands in that big one, even through the dirt!
That's what I call a FYF (F#ck Yeah Find) congrats.. ❤
I DO ENJOY YOUR EXCITEMENT THAT IS JUST HOW I FEEL EACH FIND! VER FUN VIDEO
Thanks Dennis!!
Best friend my dear! Stones perfects, 💜
Thanks so much!
O my Lanta! awesome to hear someone else use the phrase

Right on Taylor! I know the feeling man, I know the feeling! You don't sound crazy at all. If someone thinks you're crazy for being genuinely excited to find such a beautiful treasure then, take me to the loony bin because I'm just as excited! How can you not be right? That was an awesome find dude. Cheers to a great day out there🐾
I love it when you guys get excited over a great find it means you are happy and i love to see people happy and you guys crack me up. some times i need a good laugh. So keep getting craaaaazy excited.
@@northernrocks543 😄hahahaha...will do!😵
😆🐾
Thanks so much Marlaina, alot of people don't get it! How lucky was that though? It wasn't moved around and exposed by machine or pushed by lake superiors waves..just sitting there for over a billion years..and this spring the earth eroded just a bit and BAM...just waiting there waiting for me lol 😆 makes me smile so big thinking about it!
@@AgateDad I can't believe it sometimes...its just so awesome! Just think of all the others just waiting to be unearthed. And when you're used to finding the little ones like we are, when you find that big one you've been dreaming about...um yeah...crazy excitement! You heard me in my river of agates video. I was so excited I had to edit how the big curse words I used and almost edited out the sound that came out of me completely! I just couldn't help myself. But that was true genuine excitement right there. Moments that we'll remember 4life. Imagine what we'll look and sound like if we were to find one as big as Kate! LOL I might retire after that haha just kidding🐾
Hahahaha I call those big ones, "wall-off agates" the ones that you could quit and be good with ending there! Or usually how I try to end my hunt, my luck though = find my walk off in the first 5 minutes haha!
de Colombia gelo oh maygas que gemotas hay muchas quisiera una💎💍
I don't think I would cut the big one with all the bands!!!one of a kind!!! All fabulous!!! ❤
I lived on Lake Superior when I was a kid for a few years we used to go Agate hunting with my grandma I still miss it Thanks for the Memories
Happy to help 😊
I love your enthusiasm Taylor !!!! So fun to watch your videos ❤
Csodálatos, én is így örülnék.
I love the hunt. We spent 8 days on the Oregon coast and it was very hard to leave. It was my first official hunt and it was amazing. Found so many beautiful agates.
Love to see that you get so excited when you find a beautiful piece like that white agate.
Thanks for sharing! Love your videos!
So I am curious, what do you do with all the agates you find?
I have jars and tubs that I put the agates in, some go to my landscaping rocks at my house and others are in need of better storage in my basement!
Can you sell them?
I'm sure I could..it would be hard to part with them though lol
The big one is awesome also several of the small ones are to. The little ones turn out great when you tumble them and put them in a dish or bottle. Those jaspers look to have some great colors and the smaller one may have some agate in it. Love your reaction to the first one keep it up.
Thanks Robert 👍 love my agates big and small! I'll have to look at that one closer!
What a stunner Taylor! Give it a coat of oil and it's the centerpiece of your display and collection! Those little ones are gorgeous too. I bet you'll be going back to that pit! Those jaspers I bet would provide some wonderful slabs. Keep these great videos coming!
Thanks so much Paul! I probably will be going back!
Batu yang sangat indah👍👍
☺🤟
Certain angles of the Big one looks like a owl head
Awesome finds... beautiful agates and jasper ..thanks for sharing
.
Nothing like those washouts! That big one reminds me of one I still have that I found as a teenager and my Dad cut with his tile saw. I still remember how it looked sticking out of the ground and that was a LOT of years ago!
Oh sounds like some amazing memories 😁
I really enjoy your videos. I was hoping that you had a web site, where you sell some of your beauty's. But you don't, too bad. Because I love agates.
Maybe someday 👍 appreciate the support!! Hope you have a great weekend!
Maybe you can help me: I was in our creek and found a red rock that had broken open. I swear, the inside of this rock looked like pork fat. Lol. Very pretty. But not sure the type of rock.
Little late on the response, I’d like to see a picture of it
Agates frome mexico has entered the chat!
Hey what you guys will do that?? That can make some money?? We can find many stone near our villages river.
I'll leave that one, its too perfect as is 👍
I'm allergic to stings...I would have run screaming like a little girl for 50 yards...😅 nice finds... I'm poking around everywhere... im going to polish like a mad man tomorrow see if I got anything worthy ... I'm having so much fun either way... ☺
Did you have any luck??
@@AgateDadI'm cutting and polishing a bunch of slabs today while I have the sun... im finding more quartzite I'm guessing than anything but it's many different colors I have at least one neat agate tumbling now very clear cool banding... and I'm not sure what that red blue rock... once I get a pendant finnished and the slabs all polished I'll make a small video 😃 I want to help encourage folks into this and not hold back... it's too much fun and awe to ignore the beauty of a rocks and what is hidden around you right under foot...🤗
That's what i think too:) is what's hiding beneath the surface of the dirt my brother had a huge tree get pulled out of the ground at his house and I got to Dig Under The Roots I found the most amazing Agates I've ever seen
Isn't thay crazy?!
I have to, I think you were switched with my son at birth! You're really my child! Lol! My momma remembered me bringing in pretty rocks at age 2! I thought I was the only kid for years. I have collected for 48 yrs now. I'm not sure what I have but I love it! KEEP ROCKIN' AGATE DAD!
How do you know if a given gravel pit is okay to go to? Whenever I look on maps, it seems they are always on someones property. Do you find locations where it is possible to ask landowners for permission?
Thats the only way to go about legally, ask permission 👍
I'm a minnesota boy. Wanna start bringing my daughters Agate hunting. Do you ever have meet ups?
If people are out and I am out I am open to meeting up!
The first thing out of my mouth on seeing this?!? “HOLY SHXXXT!!!”. Sorry, couldn’t help it! That’s why I’m always so reluctant to leave the beach or rock pile- I always think there COULD be the best rock I’ve ever seen, just in the next swipe, or scoop, or foot! Congratulations, my rock-hunting/loving/crazy brother! WOW!!!😍😍😍
Hahaha if you pay attention it almost slipped out of me too..."holy......crap!" 🤣 its always so hard leave! Or when I go back to a spot and find one that was on a spot ive literally walked over! So frustrating!
One word. BEAUTIFUL! Havagudun Bud.
Right! You too!
So cool! I dont get agates quite like those here in oregon. Lakers are pretty awesome
They're a wonder my friend, i'm very blessed to be able to hunt them down!
Omigosh, Taylor, my heart just jumped to hear you so excited! What an amazing find. LOL, I hate it when we find a big old agate at the beginning of the video. :'D LOL, you forgot EVERYTHING - what, are you trying to copy me? 💜
Hahahaha yeah its hard to come back to reality after that!
I was checking your musical credits... That wasn't you at the end playing was it?😎
OH MY GOSH THANK YOU!!! hahaha I knew I forgot to do something for this video!!! I just added the credits for it. I wish I was that talented!

have you found any jet rock in lake superior before? im curios as i found a large chunk and know nothing about it
I guess I haven't looked for it, I suppose if you found some its native to the area
The black one you found with crystals, what did you call that. I found a piece and did not know what it was.
Porphyry (poor-free) i use to say it incorrectly until English teacher Katydid corrected me 😆
Woow amazing agate... You so lucky... 👍👍👍👍👍
I sure was!
Yup. That’s what LSA do to us. Makes us crazy people
Absolutely!!
Hi. The Northern Mudlarks sent me. New subscriber xx
Thanks!!!
15:10 ... the ancients looked at a triangle-within-a-triangle and the diamond-within-a-diamond (or the related eye-within-an-eye or yoni-within-a-yoni) as much-sought signs of the cosmic cycles of heaven and earth. Triangle was Aries. The Diamond was Virgo.
The little triangle within the big triangle (and diamond within a diamond) were signs of the axis of the world that runs between the 1st of Aries and the 1st of Virgo. They believed that when the Sun came to one of the four points of the cosmic cross (the other two being where the Milky Way crosses the zodiac at Sagittarius-Scorpio and Taurus-Gemini), we would have a great cataclysm four times a Precession. As in soon ... Sun followed Mars into the Age of Taurus in 4514 BC. I believe this year, Pisces comes to its dramatic conclusion.
That big banded white one looked to me to be Tuson Rock and Gem show quality!
It’s my favorite
Yo, you HAVE to see my agate I found out on my grandparents land. It really is one of a kind
send pics to one of my social media accounts
WOW. Those are awesome! I hit the sub button. Thanks for the video!
Awe thanks!! Happy to share the adventure!
Do you have any tips for me because I’m going agate hunting in Germany tomorrow
I’ve never hunted in Germany so idk what materials they have to find there
@@AgateDad oh okay! Wel have a good day!
I love how you named the stone with shark finne-shaped lines ‘Jaws’, cause i love those movies 🦈😊👍🏻
That big one is beautiful! Not many agates in western ny state, mostly glaciated rocks from the Niagara Escarpment and Onondaga Escarpment. But they sometimes can be found on the Lake Erie and Lake Ontario beaches. Lots of black and/or gray chert from both of those scarps though.
May I ask where are some good public land areas to hunt for these agates?
A lot of public spots are going to be beaches and rivers/creeks 👍
Looks like a good place for gold
