I remember how during the Cold War, getting supplies to Berlin (I think West Berlin, but forgive me, it was a long time ago and I am old!) was being blocked by the Soviet Union. They wanted the Germans to cave in. But the US, Britain and France did an airlift. With cargo planes like that, the supplies flowed as needed. I heard some impressive numbers for how many planes had to fly in a day, and it was nearly constant. Never let it be said that the C-17s and other cargo planes do not have a very important role to play.
