- Have you ever been asked, “What are you?” As an identity crisis waiting to happen, Cedrice’s multi-ethnic identity of “other” made her feel alone, but helped her realize that where she belonged, where she truly found her voice, was in music. Through her own journey of discovery she came to realize that embracing one’s identity struggle leads to more authenticity. “One voice, stripped down to share an honest struggle, can inspire others to share their own story.” Cedrice a highly sought out actress, vocalist and poet who is inspired by truth and connection within the world of theatre, music and art. This multi-faceted and dynamic woman exudes passion that speaks to the strength of voice and self purpose, while engaging an audience with her honest and mesmerizing energy. Cedrice performed as the lead role in the spoken word opera, Ordinary Magic and regularly performs as the lead vocalist in the band, Abstrack. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

"Embracing the identity struggle leads to authenticity."
marinz acebuche,
So does ignoring it.
@@ArcoZakus i respect your opinion. But as for me, ignoring such struggles doesnt mean it will disappear. And once we neglect to face it, the same struggles are still present but the pain that can be inflicted would be more costly. In my perspective, with humility, we should confront it.
Cedrice is gifted...so authentic & courageous. Saw her on The Voice & her performance was amazing.
Tonight was an even better performance on The Voice!

Beautiful woman. She should not worry about identity problem. That's in the eye of some of those who look at her with their own norm, which is not hers.

Cool !
At first, I wanted to reclaim my cultural identity but then I came to realize my human life is too short and the unhappiness and stress wasn't worth wasting my time on. I am a human being and American and that's enough for me.
I'm more interested in what you DO, than your DNA.
Thomas,
Exactly.
I never really thought of myself as German, even though I was born and raised there and have never lived anywhere else. I thought of myself as half Russian and half Polish, which is where my parents come from. At least that is what I thought. I soon learned that my father isn't actually from Poland, but was born in a part in Germany that turned Polish when he was a little kid. His mom is fully Polish, but moved to Germany, which turned Polish soon after. She only spoke to my father in Polish and he even attended a Polish school. I'm not done yet. His biological father passed away when my dad was really young, so I never knew he is actually half French. And my mom isn't fully Russian either. Her mom is Russian, but her father is from Estonia, which is where she was born and raised, but at that time Estonia wasn't independent from Russia yet, so everyone spoke Russian. That's probably where the confusion happened. So what am I, really? A lot of people keep telling me that I am German because I was born here. While that may be true, my roots aren't in Germany. I have many great aunts and uncles who live here, but they are not directly related to me. If I were to trace back the steps, my German lineage would end with my father, who, even though he was theoretically born in Germany, only got in contact with the German language when he moved here for work.
The way I see it, is like this: My dad is half French and half Polish, and my mom is half Russian and half Estonian. I am from everywhere BUT Germany. I gave up trying to figure out where I am from. Depending on the situation, I either give the information on my passport, which says I'm German, or I tell my whole story.
Brilliant
The Voice bring me here 😉😊
