  • As human beings we crave to understand our true value, worthiness and identity. We are starving to create and live our own life, yet all too often we find ourselves hypnotized by society’s standards. Becoming more insecure and seeking comfort in conformity. This identity crisis is causing people to become more worried, anxious and even depressed than ever before. It’s time to break the habit of living anyone else’s life but the one you create and desire!
Ryan Romano (USAW, FNS, PN-1) is a High Performance and Wellness expert, writer and speaker. He is also the CEO of The Warehouse Performance Institute, a Birmingham, Alabama-based sports and human performance training center. For almost a decade, Ryan has worked with 15,000 individuals and 3,000 families around the country providing physical, mental and emotional training. He specializes in building an individual’s confidence and self-esteem, as well as providing mentoring and coaching to help the individual to discover and align their true value and worthiness. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I agree that being empty (in self-identity) leads to empty relationships. This is one of the greatest challenges we must present our youth: to challenge them to fulfill their true destinies, part of that: being human! Thanks for bringing so much energy to our TEDx stage!

I literally went through an identity crisis and drug/ alcohol abuse at the same time, for the past 8 years. As I’m approaching 26 years of age next month, I’m finally finding myself spiritually, I know what I want to do as a career, next step is to get my mental straight after I’m just now getting over addiction. The withdraws make relapsing so much easier. Lastly is to get my finances back in order.

I have a friend who is experiencing an identity crisis so I started watching videos about it. Thanks because now I have an introduction to help him solve this. I do not want to send this video immediately because it is most likely that he will know my intention in trying to help his situation creating the possibility to shut me out. I fear that he may end his life if he continues to go at this situation. Thank you!

Give us some practical tips, like......
Take opposite action toward your fear:
"I don't want to live on my own, I want to move back in with mom" Move to a different country.
Take a shot at life, not to the head.
If therapy and meds are failing, switch therapists and/or meds.
If still failing, research TMS treatment or acquire psilocybin mushrooms.
As a last resort, go live with the monks up in the mountains.

@@88royalty88 i just don't feel feel like I'm worth anything, it's connected to my ability to preform tasks so if i don't complete them with flying colors i just don't feel like I'm worth anything. I'm serious when i say there's literally nothing i love about myself but i hope to change that. a week ago i picked up learning the guitar and this time I'm serious about learning it i hope to impress myself one day if can get even remotely decent.

@@Yuseigo you have to reprogram that mind of yours thats what im in the mist of doimg but you have to be consistent. You know if you didnt have this illness you would like alot about yourself so say those things and say them out loud. Start with saying im enough, im valuable, i love myself even if you dont feel that way say it anyways. Tell yourself that your healing and that things are getting better. I cant leave this convo without telling ypu that your everything and subconsciously you know it tool. You got this start working on yourself its hard but you can do it.

He' nailed it. I"ve seen it time and time again. For me, it's been water. Yep, pools, oceans, lakes. Swimming. Beaches, sunsets, the feeling of water. Simple but it makes you feel amazing. Other people, friends, do NOT do it for me. They just want to dump all their problems on me. Yet, I'm always expected to be on the top of my game all the time. So my relationship, meaningful one is my time in the pool. It clears my head, offers good exercise, and has nothing to do with hearing other people complain. It cleans the soul. It reminds you there's a world out there without your keyboard.

    That's a great speech
Knowing one purpose and having a personal meaning to life is really the starting point because once that's in place, self love will follow and a healthy self esteem will be built regardless of the challenges and life opposition one might encounter
Then there wouldn't be room for voidness and emptiness and one's joyfulness and happiness wouldn't be based on any other fellow rather one will take responsibility for deriving his joy from within and from there will leave a meaningful life
There will be a fulfill sense of worth that you're not just adding up to the statistics, neither are a a product of another biological mistakes and that will help you embrace your uniqueness and be positive towards life

This didn't help me at all, you don't come and do this ted talk to only tell your story, give statistics and give a pep talk, you do this ted talk to actually help people and tell them what to do to actually find themselves and how they should approach it, I'm not saying I could do it better because I actually came her for help, but this is not it.
