I've listened to Jocko quite a bit before this, but have never heard him breathe so nervously. He really was very nervous here. He's a hardened vet, but he's still human.
Mister And that’s what’s so special about him. He’s not some sociopath killer with no emotions, some fake tough guy who only cares about looking cool. He’s a good person, one who cares about himself and about humanity. He just wants to make himself AND everyone else better. He’s a real role model. Most importantly, he’s not afraid to make himself vulnerable. That’s what makes a TRUE man.
He's a SEAL. He's not used to being in the spotlight. They work behind the scenes and in the shadows. They are called "Quiet Professionals" for a reason.
Conrad Francis Makes sense. He’s very articulate, which one doesn’t usually think of regarding tough warriors like himself. It’s probably part of his appeal, he’s like a warrior poet.

@@AC-mp7cx Jocko didn't make the decision to start the Iraq war 🙄 Was it criminal for Biden and Democrats to abandon military service members in Afghanistan? Or does your pathetic, keyboard warrior, never having served yourself judgments only swing one way?
I come back and rewatch this, because the two things he said that stood out to me the most is: "Don't hide your delicate pride from the truth." And then: "Don't make excuses or blame anyone else or any other thing. Take ownership, of your problems and the solutions for them. Take ownership of EVERYTHING in your life, the GOOD, and the BAD." It's as simple as that, from my perspective. You cannot control what you did in the past, you cannot control what always happens to you, but you CAN control the type of person you will allow yourself to be. That's what he's mainly talking about, deciding who and what you will be.
The incredible sense of responsibility, accountability, and humility of the SEALS mentioned here makes me understand how blessed we are to have men who face so much awfulness with such tremendous decency, honor, and compassion. God bless their souls.

Reminds me of advice a boss gave me early in my career. “To be a leader people want to follow you have to remember two things. When the team has a victory it’s the team’s victory. When the team has a loss, it’s your loss.”
Sorry Bill, the earlier comments here are the truth: Jocko is a "monster" and his focus is on Jocko - ALWAYS. A successful leader is two things: 1: VERY "lucky" a God and 2: self-made condition of FOCUS on SELF) . Great Soldiers, poor commanders, very dangerous to follow.
Right on. Makes me think of the more humble nascar drivers being interviewed after a race. Or good parents, soldiers, a dr at the head of a team, or sports team captains, or students and good teachers. Especially in business. Think of the apprentice(even tho that is fake companies) the one who contributes most to the failure sometimes gets to stay if the leader failed to lead.
When I was in the Navy, I worked in flight operations. One of my tasks was to make sure the flight crew's hotel accommodations were smooth so they could get checked in and rest for the night. I don't quite remember the details but there was some mix up when they got to the front desk. I dont even recall that it was my fault, but when the commanding pilot got back from the trip he asked "who made these accommodations?" I told him directly without hesitation "it was me Sir, I apologize." He looked at me and said "Wow, thank you. Most people wouldn't have admitted that." He and the other pilots, as well as my colleagues respected me from then on. I never forgot that feedback and I have always owned up to my mistakes since then. I passed that on to my son who now serves in the Army. When he owned up to mistakes, I rewarded him with respect, acknowledgement, and more trust.

Just look at the comment section, idiots are more interested to prove this guy as a chad rather than hearing his words!! I am beyond disgusted to read these comments.
Using Jocko's own lesson here, who is responsible for "this mentality is deeply missing in this generation"? The answer to that would be the people who raised them, instructed them, and led them. The people who didn't teach and show them how to be responsible and take ownership are at fault. I am not sure if that was the commenter's intended interpretation of his statement or not, but I say, if there is fault found in the young, their elder should be the ones who are ashamed.
Amen.
When Jocko speaks, deaf people listen.
LMAO!! And he makes the blind ones to see(temporarily for the duration of his speech) just to picture how he is looking like.
Like a prophet…

@@andrabook8758 I agree. Especially not getting fired. But again even if your ego grows doesn't mean you can't control it.

HE certainly looks like that i mean he's straight out of central casting and apparently doesn't know he sounds like he's giving an interview in between WWE matches

My father taught me exactly what this guy taught us. We must assume our responsibilities. We can't transfer blame. This is matter of character. This video is awesome.

Now this, this is a man. Not because of his demeanor, but because of his morals and values as a man. I learned a lifetime of valuable information in this 14 minute video.
I was engaged and local in all of this. You’re irreconcilably correct.
@do br he should take ownership and try to Lead people to victory. He knows how dark life can be - he is now the one to stand up and walk his people to a better life and do it as best as he can. That's what makes a man.
He has a great podcast too

+Gjermund It’s more the shakiness of his breathing. But he’s got the confidence of a mountain.

I come back and rewatch this, because the two things he said that stood out to me the most is: "Don't hide your delicate pride from the truth."
And then: "Don't make excuses or blame anyone else or any other thing. Take ownership, of your problems and the solutions for them. Take ownership of EVERYTHING in your life, the GOOD, and the BAD."
It's as simple as that, from my perspective. You cannot control what you did in the past, you cannot control what always happens to you, but you CAN control the type of person you will allow yourself to be. That's what he's mainly talking about, deciding who and what you will be.

Reminds me of advice a boss gave me early in my career. “To be a leader people want to follow you have to remember two things. When the team has a victory it’s the team’s victory. When the team has a loss, it’s your loss.”
I must remember this.
