      Ric Vazquez Rodriguez I like your profile pic, ID is one of my favorite characters of any rpg. I would like to see xenogears get a re-release and have the final disc of the game flushed out and finished. There should be a petition for it lol.

    This should be everyone's first Ys game. It's just old school fun. Hack and slash gameplay, chaining skills and attacks together. Finding gear, tough but fair bosses, shocking realistic dialogue, and Yunica is such a lovable character with her determination and the way the plot erodes her innocence. She's just a tough girl with an ax and a lot of loyalty to her friends.

    • @2old4gaming
      @2old4gaming  7 лет назад

      +Maria Hanover totally agree. Yunica was my favourite. I'm glad this was my first Ys game. It really makes want to check them all out.

      I played Ys Seven and uninstalled it after a few hours. The combat and music are still top notch, but it does that obnoxious thing in old rpgs where you have a huge town and the only way to advance the game is to find the one specific place or person and doesn't give a great idea of what or where they are. The Vita does have a ton of Ys games though, I just can't recommend seven.

    • @2old4gaming
      @2old4gaming  7 лет назад

      +Maria Hanover ok cool, I'll avoid 7. I'm definitely playing VIII when it comes out. It looks very impressive.

      Do yourself a favor and play Ys Seven, but not right away.
      I honestly suggest you try out all Ys games (except for Ys V for the SNES) in this order (as Origin is your first): Ys I and II Chronicles, Ys III: Oath in Felgana, Ys VI: Ark of Nepishtim, Ys Seven, Ys: Memories of Celceta (it's actually a remake of Ys IV: Mask of the Sun), and lastly, Ys VIII.
      The order that I recommended is to take you through the different game mechanics used throughout the series.
      With Ys I & II Chronicles, you have the bump system, where you deal damage to your enemies by running into them off-center or from their sides/behind. Chronicles has 360 degree movement, so Adol is basically a pinball of death. Last but not least, Ys I & II carry on with the lore established from Origin.
      With Oath in Felgana and Ark of Nepishtim, you have the same gameplay as Origin. Ark of Nepishtim was actually the first Ys game to have this gameplay style when it came out for the Japanese PC back in 2006 and Ys III was remade with the same engine, followed by Ys Origin.
      With Ys Seven and Memories of Celceta, they change the game engine yet again, this time allowing you to switch between Adol and two more companions on the fly. The emphasis on platforming is reduced, in favor of dodging, and combat is even more fast-paced overall.
      Ys V has two versions: one for the SNES and one for the PS2, but the PS2 version is only in Japanese. While both are visually different, the pace of combat is at its slowest in these games.
      Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana seems to have evolved the mechanics of Ys Seven and Memories of Celceta by incorporating jumping once again and having the camera behind you, instead of at an isometric perspective.
      Aside from Ys Origin, the whole series is essentially the adventures of the red-haired adventurer, Adol Christin. Although each adventure is relatively self-contained (Ys I & II can be considered one adventure), there are recurring characters and themes, such as the ancient civilization of the Eldeen (winged people like Reah and Feena), the Romun Empire's conquest of foreign lands, Dogi (and him punching through walls), and Adol starting the game washed up ashore after being shipwrecked (and losing all of his gear). Mind you, the same characters and themes don't show up in every title, but it does provide some continuity throughout the series.
      Timeline-wise, the series is as follows: Origins, I & II, Memories of Celceta, Oath in Felgana, V, Lacrimosa of Dana, Ark of Nepishtim, and Seven.
      Aside from the lore, all of the games of this series are fun as hell (with the exception of Ys V for the SNES). Go and have at it.

      I have Ys Seven, I hated it. It does that thing in RPG's where you have to scour the entire town just to interact with the correct person or object to advance the story with no strong indication of what you're looking for. Ys Origin was non-stop conveyance, Ys Seven had long, long stretches of yacking about a story that wasn't that interesting.

    It was my first Y's game as well. Immediately preordered 8 for vita and went and picked up a physical of Memories of Celceta. I had to give up trying for the platinum for Orgins though. Nightmare boss rush and arena were rightly a challenge but also suffered from crashing on multiple retries. There is a ton to do and you unlock a 4th character through arena. I am not sure if the 4th has a story mode cause i was not interested in a 5th play through after a nightmare run and very easy run.
    Fantastic game the crashes are sad.

    • @2old4gaming
      @2old4gaming  7 лет назад

      +Mike Brewpounder how was celceta? I've got it but haven't played it yet.
      I didn't have any crashes luckily. It may be also because I played the game late so it's probably all patched up.

      So I’m not the best person to answer because I’ve only played 2 Ys games Origins and Ys VIII. Both were friendly for new comers. I didn’t feel lost with the story of either of them. I’d play Origins first and then VIII. Just because VIII is a better game and it may feel like a down step to play Origins after VIII. Hope that helps

    If I play Ys 8 now, and then go back to play ys origin, will power find this game boring or just as much fun and intriguing as you suggest it is?

    • @2old4gaming
      @2old4gaming  6 лет назад +1

      I think you’ll be fine. Ys VIII is a better game but they play very differently because Origins is a top down action game. I think you will still enjoy it.

      I think you'd like it. I haven't played origins,1,2,3 or 4 but ive played the others. This one reminds me a lot of Oath in Felghana. Felghana and 7 had voice acting and 7 was where adol first had a voice(legend of zelda style, Mainly grunting). Damn, i loved it. Along with ys 7. 7 was where it started going full 3d models. I've played memories of celceta, but that one is kinda whatever compared to felghana and 7. There was just something that celceta lacked to me, maybe the story. I felt the plot was too simple and dragged on for too long that I just powered through the entire game without a single thought. I loved 8, just beat it the other day finally after putting it off for months. 8 was interesting, kinda cheesy story but I dig it. I'd say try felghana first if you have the chance, that one got me into the series. Made me actually like adol and his trusty blue haired wonder.

    Im stuck on this dam snake boss that wraps around a wall and shoots out these balls. Its impossible. Been stuck for months and given up. Was having no problem with the game before that but the difficulty shot up from 1 to 10. It is a good game though. Checl out ys celceta as well on the vita its really good
