Alanda, I just now found your tutorial. I love your accent, and you are making the most beautiful quilt I've ever seen! It's pretty, it's classic, and what a treasure, a real keepsake, you're making. I hit the Subscribe button, and the LIKE button, and I am definitely going to try to make what you have created. Thank you so much!
Thank you for your lovely comment Nancy 😊. I loved having my mother and m-i-l's crochet doilies to add to the quilt. Both have passed so it's a nice reminder of who they were and what they meant to me.
The quilt is a wonderful way to use as many doilies as possible and display them at the same time. Thankfully they are being appreciated again as part of our heritage. Many thanks, Jess
I am so glad you liked this project Jess. I just couldn't bring myself to part with these treasures. I am currently making a shabby chic cushion cover to use up some more of the doilies I have on hand. My mother was a prolific crocheter in her day :)
Excellent Pam. They look beautiful when added to a quilt and it's such a great way of displaying them rather than having them tucked away in a cupboard somewhere.
You are so right Vera, they would make a lovely addition to a quilt like this. I don't have any of those beautiful handkerchiefs left. I remember when I was a child that gifts of boxed handkerchiefs were often received for birthdays and xmas. They were always beautifully embroidered with lace edges, and were really too nice to use as hankies. I remember my mother wearing hers in a top coat pocket folder so the pretty embroidery showed above the pocket. Goodness me I am showing my age. :)
Really beautiful quilt hope you show it to us when you have completed your quilting. I would have liked to have seen how you attached (sewed) the doilies and laces I always find them so hard to work with.
I certainly will Debra. I am going to do a short video on attaching the doilies and laces and will pop it up on the channel once it's done. I was going to show that part and decided not to because we have had complaints in past about people not wanting to waste their time watching someone sew. But I agree with you that in this case it's needed. :)
Beautiful! I wish you had shown how you sew the doillies to the fabric. I'm planning to do the same thing, but I'm afraid of ruining the doilly while doing it.
It will be fine Bianca. I just plain stitched along the closed crocheted rows and did a small zig zag on some of the open rows. I didn't want the doilies to be sewn down to within an inch of their lives as I wanted a softer appearance.
Thank you for the feedback Karen. We stopped sewing because people complained about the noise of the machine and it wasted their time watching someone sew. But in hindsight this one probably could have used a bit of sewing to show how to attach the doilies. So I will do a short video on attaching the embellishments post it asap.

Haven't even finished the video and had to say WOW!
Thank you 😃
Beautiful! I have a sackful of old doilies and have been planning to do the exact same thing as a gift to my mother.
She will absolutely love it Linda. :)
Beautiful!!! I just cleaned up my sewing room and found my doilies. Going to use this idea.

So beautiful ! love it 👍
Thank you Maria 😊. It was a special project for me. I loved being able to use up doilies that had been made by both my mother and mother-in-law.
LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!! 💞💞💞💞💞💞
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing. Great idea to use from the family treasures. You could even add some old pretty handkerchiefs also.

Simply beautiful. I think I'd like to make some pillows using this idea.
That's a great idea Sandra. I love this soft romantic look, I know that sounds soppy. but I think these would make lovely bedroom pillows. :)
Gorgeous ❤
Thank you! 😊
Lovely idea. Thank you for this tutorial.
Thank you Pauline :)
This is so pretty. I've been looking for a tutorial for a doily quilt. One question; I assume this would need to be dry cleaned?
I myself would just give it a gentle hand wash with a good quality detergent.
What a lovely idea 👍Thank you 😘
Thank you Izabela :)

I like your presentation style but would like to actually see you sew. It makes it make sense better to me. 🙂
