wow! I never thought that you can sew little pieces and make a quilt like this. Thanks so much for making a video to show us a wonderful technique to make a quilt!
Thanks for this. I have saved lots of scraps and sometimes I just feel the need to sit down and sew something easy with no particular project in mind. This is the perfect pastime to do as a refresher between more challenging projects. I love how you've sorted into colour groups. That makes the final fabrics so pretty.
I love doing this. It is so fun!!! So glad to see different techniques like using long pieces for chaining. Would love to see actual quilts made with crumbs.
I started doing this awhile ago...it is addicting! I was going to slowly build a quilt...sort of a memory quilt for all the projects I've ever done but just had a thought that placemats might be a better way to go. The grandkids would get a kick out of finding scraps of their quilts in each one. Sort of an I Spy deal!
"I LOVE AND THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS METHOD "!!! I all but thought I was going crazy cause I saw this once as a Child and NOBODY has ever heard of this !!! " Thank You sooo much for the inspiration to "LOOSE Myself" sweing away !!!
This is one of my favourite things to do. I don't make quilts, but I make zipper bags and fabric baskets etc and they all look terrific made from scrappy fabric. Tote bags too look amazing. Thanks for this
This is a new way of sewing crumb blocks for me. I can't wait to try it out. It's one of my favorite 'between' projects activities. Or if I need inspiration before picking a new project. It's very addictive and a great way to use up scraps and crumbs. I like to make mine into quilts for charities. Thanks for this new technique.
I just started doing this during the weekend... mindless fun sewing... using scraps...how lovely! my 10 year old granddaughter took to it, first time sewing!
That's excellent to hear Melissa. It's so good to see youngsters taking to quilting, and I'm guessing she loves the no rules aspect. I find this so relaxing to do :)
Thank you ! I love this and will be using this method for a special quilt for one of my wonderful sisters. I love your no fuss way...love from across the ditch! 🥰💕
This technique is great for when you want to sew and not have to concentrate much (what I call mindless sewing). Obviously it's great for using up scraps. Love your tutorials.
I call that "therapy sewing"!! Sometimes I want to enjoy the zen of working in colour and the soothing act of creation without taxing a tired brain...making crumb blocks and strip sets fits the bill!
thank you so much Alanda. i can see that you have a beautiful heart as your quilts. i need this tutorial badly since a have a bulk of fabric scraps. :)
Thank you for your lovely comment Ayaran. You are going to have so much fun using this technique. And it will certainly help to reduce that scrap stash. :)
Cabbage, crumbs, scraps....whatever we call them, this is a fabulous idea for using them! I'm new to sewing so don't have much of a crumb stash, but I will start saving every scrap to make a quilt like this! What a fantastic and beautiful use of even the smallest bit of fabric! So glad I came across this!
I discovered Crumb quilting the other day and so happy as I had gone through my stash and created a LOT of scraps during the initial mask making frenzy . Yours is such a lovely detailed tutorial with great ideas ( love the long strip use ) . Subscribed!
That's great to hear Wendy. You can use your crumb quilting in so many lovely projects. Here are some projects that our readers have done using crumb quilting www.alandacraft.com/?s=crumb+quilting
I'd love to see a video about using crumbs successfully. I don't like the busyness of most crumb quilts but i love the use of cool colours and unifying sashing in this. I wonder if there are other tricks i didn't notice which helps to tie these together.
Excellent Loretta and maybe you can share your crumb project on the website when you get it done. This is such a fun way to use up those scrappy bits. :)
I have so many scraps and have been trying to use them up, but I am a very organized sewer so was getting very frustrated. This method is fabulous and will save me so much time. Going to give it a bash and hopefully see a dent in the scrap boxes I have. Thank you so much for making it sound so easy
Thank you so much Alanda, I really really love 💕 this. It’s so helpful and useful, and I really really love 💕 how you worked all the odd bits and pieces and you really really managed to get a brilliant bloke. xxx Mags
My bag of weird little scraps has been growing, and I knew there had to be something I could do other than throwing them away. Thanks so much for this! It's an excellent technique.
It's amazing how quickly those scrap stashes grow. That's because we never know when we just might need that teeny tiny piece of fabric. This is fun to do and I love seeing the new fabric come together. Enjoy. :)
That's fantastic! You have inspired me. I'm going to make about 12 squares, keeping to the same colours family and then checkerboard them with white, en pointe. This will be made into a baby quilt.
It is really so easy Roxane. I love it because I don't have to think too much about what I am doing. Just find two straight edges, sew them together and trim.
Ashlee Viverette It looks like a Picasso painting. I love this so much. It’s looks very modern art-ish. Yours are my favorite quilting videos. I made my first quilt using your strip quilt video. Now I’m making a 9 patch quit. I can’t wait until I have enough scraps (one day) to do this one. Thanks for what you do. I probably would have never attempted quilting with out your channel. :)
Thank you for such awesome feedback Ashlee. :) I hadn't looked at this from an artists point of view, but you are so right these pieces do look very much like modern art. We would love to see photos of you quilts on the website, here is the link if you are interested. www.alandacraft.com/submit-your-project/.

WOW now that is a different kind of quilt I must say. I think it may drive me batty trying to sew it together. I would be so confused. But thanks for sharing. I sure enjoyed watching you sew it.
Give it a go Tammy, you will be surprised at how much fun it is. There are no rules other than joining two pieces of fabric together along a straight edge. :)
Oh I would love to see some photos of how they look Cindy. It is such fun to do. Here is a link if you would like to share www.alandacraft.com/submit-your-project/ 😀

Thank you for your lovely comment Marialla. lol, a chipper is definately out of the question. You could always buy an eight of a yard of fabric and cut them into strips to make a start. Or you could start working on some smaller projects and start building up your fabric stash. Hello Alanda! Is it possible to create a crumb quilt without ever pressing the seams? Or is this something you did but didn't capture on film? I really like how easy your method seems to be 😊
I am a presser so I press every thing. It makes it much easier (for me) to work with. Can't believe I left that step out. Thank you for mentioning it 😊.
Hi, I'm just approaching crumb quilting, I find it sooo creative :-). I have a question: what are doing with the residual crumbs you get from squaring blocks? Thanks for your suggestions. PS: greetings from Italy :-)

It's just so much fun to do Reece. Cushion covers, and pot mitts would be a couple of projects, or make up some squares to make a quilt.

Great idea & tutorial.

I love the look of your crumb quilts because of how you group your colors! Gives it good coordination and a restful sense of rhythm amongst the chaos.
This may sound dumb, but I really want to make something like this but I'm a new sewer and don't have any scraps yet. It would seem odd to cut up large yardage into random crumbs, wouldn't it? Do you know any tips for starting from large pieces and working them down into crumbs... other than just throwing them into a chipper/shredder, I mean?
