- You’ll need:
Three lengths of fabric in three coordinating colors. Makes one standard size pillowcase.
• BUN (cuff) - 12″ x WOF (width of fabric ~ 44″)
• MUSTARD (flange) - 2″ - 3″ x WOF (you can also use leftover quilt binding for this)
• HOT DOG (body) 24″ - 26″ x WOF
You can vary the bun/hot dog size up or down, but make sure that the total yardage between those two is 36″ - 38″. 9 - 12″ for the bun
is ideal.
If you use two yards of coordinating fabric, plus 6″ of a third, you can make two coordinating pillowcases with opposite colors!

Hello! This 2015 tutorial has recently had a lot of new viewers. I hope you find it useful and enjoy making your own easy-peasy pillowcases. Happy stitching!
I love the way you did the flange. Thanks for sharing that with us.
I have made over a 100 pillowcases, most for charity. And, I learned something new today. I stopped putting in a stripe because they never came out even. I never thought to sew it in place before making the burrito. Game changer for me. Thank you Jen.
I LOVE that you're donating pillowcases to charity. That's just wonderful! I'm so happy you found my tutorial helpful. Happy sewing!
I make these all the time…whenever I make a quilt, I give it inside of a matching pillowcase! I use 27” and 9”, but thanks for the idea of using 24” and 12”. Yours are very pretty.
Hi, Michele. I have used 27" and 9" and that works great, too. Have a great weekend!
Wonderful tutorial. This would make great "wrapping" for a gifted quilt.
2015! Wow!
Hi from Texas. I love the sheep fabric. Thank you.
Hi back from Texas! Thanks for watching. 😀
Very informative
Great tutorial Jennifer! thanks so much for sharing it!
Diane Mason My absolute pleasure! :)
Great tutorial. Thanks
Thank you, I'm glad you found it useful!
You’re the only one on RUclips that calls this method a “ hot dog”
This is great, thanks for sharing!😊
My pleasure!
Hi Jennifer, I love this tutorial. I have seen many burrito pillowcases and have made several, but I was never happy with the flange because it would always get messed up in the wash and would have to be ironed because it would fold up. I love the fact that you sew in the stripe. I’m a little confused on how the stripe. in your video, it looks like the end of the stripe is totally encased in the cuff of the pillowcase. But when I tried to make it, the bottom of my stripe was not inside my cuff, and I had the seam showing where I had sewed the stripe onto the cuff. What did I do wrong?
Hey there! This is one of my older videos, and it's been a while since I made a pillowcase, but I think I get the jist of your problem. Occasionally, the width of fabric isn't the same and I've had to cut off a little to remove the selvage and make the edges even so that everything is hidden inside the French seam. I hope that helps!
@@sewhookedjen . Hi again Jen. Thank you so much for responding. After watching your video over and over many times, I finally figured out what I did wrong. I sewed the stripe to the body of the pillowcase instead of sewing it to the cuff. I made another set of pillowcases and this time sewed it correctly to the cuff and it came out perfect! Thank you so much for your video. From now on, your method is the only way I will sew my pillowcases. Cathy aka CatDonese.
@@catdonese aaaah, okay, I'm so glad you figured it out! I apologize for the delayed answer. I've been out of town until recently.
I followed your directions to a T and I ended up with a flang!!
Well done!
Where did you get that fabric print my oldest daughter loves sheep’s??
What is the actual standard
Pillow case size
Is it. 27”. Or. 25”
What about a child’s size pillow???
Will you do a baby small pillow ???
Hi there! Standard size is about 26" long. You can customize this pattern to any size you like. You want the finished length to be a few inches longer than your pillow, and the width before sewng together should be about four inches wider. It's very adaptable!
Unfortunately, I don't know where the fabric came from. I filmed this tutorial in 2015 and I just don't remember.
Happy sewing!
WHAT SIZE JS THE SGRIPE BLACK YOU DID T SAY SO IT 27 N 9 IN CHS WHAT ABOUT THE SNALL PLEASE
Hi there! You can find all fabric sizes listed in the description of the video.
Hello Jennifer, Do you still have the written version with pictures I can look at, you mentioned it here in this video?
Hi there, yes, you can find a link in the description.
Could i use the serger
Absolutely!
What did you use to hang the thread rack to the pegboard? 😃 😃 😃
Believe it or not, just long skinny pegs! They work great and I can still hang things from them.
Very nice tutorial but I don't get how you did the French seam....🤔. Anyway thanks for the video 😊🎄
If it helps...The first step is sewing wrong sides together. That is turned inside out and the a slightly wider seam is sewn on the inside to capture the raw edges so the seam is completely encased inside the pillowcase.
Great tutorial Jen!
I'm putting my all dolled up quilt in my local quilt show in September! I gave you full credit for the pattern and included your website in the hang tag. Am I remembering right that you names the dresses after friends?
Erin Norton Yep, you remember correctly! The dresses are named after my three of my closest friends. :)
