The homepoint and drone are moving because the GNSS soloution is poor and the software is trying to keep them static by applying a correction.
There reaches a point where the GNSS info is discarded as trash and the IMU/other sensor info takes over (when the quality or other conflicting info passes DJI's threshold) this is the "impact" where the drone is brought quickly to a stop. Because of how quickly that happens it looks like a impact.

Thank you for sharing Stephen. My guess is some sort of internal issue in the drone. I'd be tempted to send it back to DJI for a work up.

Thanks Marcus. This was an afterthought too, but I’ve spoken to a few drone operators over the last few days and they have experienced the same issue, on the coastline. I’ve flown 45 flights since this incident and it’s been fine.
This is no glitch. It’s the Russians for sure 🤨

I had same problem between 2 restricted zones here in Finland. Drone lost all satellites, home point run into the sea and drone followed it. Barelly could stop it. Drone wont fly forward or backward. Only sideways. Dji mini 3 pro. In the same area friends drone got the same problem, but went to the forest. We found out that it is only hits when you rise above 30 meters. 😢

If the drone lost the gps that might be reason for the slight wobble before it figures out that the signal is lost and goes into aero mode.

Usually with jamming you lose control and cannot use it at all, its more likely to do with the weather.

So flying a mavic 3 enterprise right, not in RTK mode... did you have set to use all satellite systems on its settings? Might it just have been a glitch with the drone, there has been some high solar activity recently (and coming over next few days in fact). Have you logged with DJI and sent the logs across for them to diagnose to see if a fault with your drone or shed some light on it?

    • @FlybyGuys

Good questions. However, Finland is being hit hard with GNSS jamming by the Russians. It mostly affects higher altitudes, but by the sea, many drone operators are experiencing interference.

Solar flares are deflected by the upper atmosphere (Northern Lights are the manifestations of this) There would not be any significant effects at ground level for an object the size of a drone.

My guess would be that the movement is the drone reacting to the rapidly shifting gnss location, trying to follow it, untill it realized something ain't right.
I haven't seen this exact thing happend, but i've seen drones do some wonky things with low quality gnss location.

A depressed bumble 🐝 ending it's life. It certainly looks like something knocked the drone but they are testing jamming equipment got a notification from the caa a few weeks ago regarding this. But surely jamming would stop the drone being able to fly in attitude mode wouldn't be a deterrent.could just be glitch buddy when a drone takes a bump the gps can go a bit crazy for a few seconds while it gets it's bearings I take it no damage to any props?

Looking at the place you were flying at, you have a large power station (i.e. critical infrastructure) not to far to the west of your location.
Almosy directly east of you (to the left from your drone) is a major military base, although some distance away, yet with direct line of sight.
Pure speculation here, could it have been some kind of puls weapon protecting the power station.
Yeah, I know, I'll put my tinfoil hat back on and no more science fiction movies for me.

  • @alacazaba

Look at your sat counts, you gain a lot of satellites without and lose several just as quickly. Your nominative satellite count looks low as well, it should be closer to at least 16 GPS sats with an open view of the sky in good weather. It is probable that a combination of systems that both block and spoof GPS were active. It is also probable that these systems sweep or perdicially widen their beam path and signal strength as part of their operation. Most GPS receivers do not discriminate GPS signals based on angle, they will accept signals below the horizon as equally as those from slightly or well above the horizon, so all someone would need to do is have a ground based broadcast station to wreak havoc on systems that depend on GNSS. Jamming/spoof systems are low radio frequency, the GNSS signals they override and mimic are weak to begin with, so jammers/spoofers can operate at a good distance away with lowish power. That means there's a strong chance the signal interference/spoofing is Russian if you were proximal to the Baltic region. However, that does not mean there wouldn't be local implementations of GNSS jamming/spoofing that were being tested. Those would usually have some sort of NOTAM, though, unless they were illicit. There are military exercises in the US that will deploy GNSS inhibiting equipment, usually a NOTAM is issued with expected affected ranges from the exercise/testing.

could of been a blue bottle or bee or wasp hit the gimbal. this could also be a cause of the home point drifting. the resonance from the bee or wasp or whatever interferes and wallops the gimbal...all pure speculation.
