@@TheCarLovingSwedeAs someone who has owned two hot hatches. I can say this vehicle does not appeal to me. It’s far too expensive and far too heavy. The appeal of hot hatches is that they are fun, lightweight and affordable. I don’t want a heavy SUV/ Crossover. Regardless of how fast it is.
@vr6gls well this really isn't in the "hot hatch" category, it is more in the "hyper hatch" category as the industry has dubbed it. So more like an A45 AMG or RS3 than it is a Golf R competitor. What an interesting and well done vehicle! Hyundai is doing some great work to bridge the gap between car enthusiasts of all types. Absolutely love this thing!
If you don't think this car is fast, go watch Misha Charoudin video of him driving the Ioniq 5N around the Nürburgring while chasing another Ioniq 5N. It is insane. Then watch Ben P video so you can see both views. All I can say is it's awesome.
Keep doing this stuff, guys. Great matchup. Really enjoyed the deep dive and conversation on usable modes and features. This is like a podcast that should accompany a video review that would have otherwise been too long if it included everything you wanted to discuss. Big thumbs up!
This should've had b-roll of the car, both static and driving interspersed throughout the video, or at the very least multiple cabin shots of the presenters. The flow between Jason Camissa and Vin Anatra is fantastic, and I hope we get to see more of this!
13:59 I think the reason they are simulating the Elantra N, is due to the fact that they can extensively test and replicate the feelings and noises of an Elantra N. But I do agree that they will eventually do OTA updates to incorporate more noises. Start with what you know.
Hagerty just keeps on changing the game, it's so awesome! From Carmudgeon with Cammisa and Heifen, revelations, ICONS, ultimate drag race, know it all, etc. All beautifully done, in-depth and hilarious. You've got the great Henry Catchpole, Larry Chen, Jay Leno, to name a few. And now Vin and Jason, which I totally love! Just the best❤🏆👌 Thanks!
I absolutely love that they are trying. Most companies tout EVs as silent commuter cars. They saw a thing they are being encouraged to do by regulations and thought about the enthusiast. They made a really good effort and listened to all the people whining on the Internet about the soulless nature of EVs. Bravo Hyundai. Bravo!
Honestly, I want to hate it. I really do. BUT Hyundai, specifically the N division, is absolutely crushing it. The i30n, Elantra N and the late Veloster N absolutely RULE.
What I am amazed by is the progression of EV cars and trucks/SUV's over the last 3 years. And based off this review...manufacturers are finally listening to thier driving audience on what they want in an EV. This will cause other manufacturers to up thier game.
These two are perfect together. The reaction to the "Supersonic" afterburner sound effect is priceless. If there was a bit of post-production b-reel around the ongoing conversation, that would be great (like showing the 21" forged wheels, brakes, triangle CHMSL, etc). Really well done here.
Hat's off to Hyundai. They knocked hit the ball out of the park with the Elantra N and I5N. Affordability + Performance = Best bang for the bucks. 👏👏👏👏
Evolution sound was base on sequential gear. If you've heard the TCR Class sound, you'll agree with me. Just listen to the sound of the Hyundai TCR in Nürburgling . If someone says he don't like that sound, he don't know about seqeuential gear box.
Not sequential you mean "straight cut" as in the whining high pitched sound is caused by a motorsports transmission having a straight cut tooth profile for maximum strength, rather than the helical profile of a normal road car. Because each gear tooth hits it's neighbours mating tooth across it's full width at one moment, this produces a very specific set of nodal frequencies, whereas the helical teeth profile slides together the teeth in a long smooth action. That means less noise (quieter in absolute terms) but also a more white noise because the fundamental mating frequency is less dominant. It also means less absolute strength, perhaps counter intuitively, as you might immagine smacking the whole tooth together is worse than gently sliding them together, but with the straight cut profile, the entire width of the profile is always carrying the load, whereas a helical profile causes a point load, and hence high stress/deformation zone as the teeth first meet and eventually part.......
This is what I think all enthusiasts who don’t mind EV’s but still find them boring where waiting for. This will never a replace a manual ICE car for me but the same way I can enjoy a high revving NA 4cyl with ITB’s or a flat 6 or a turbo 8 etc etc, I can enjoy this as just another cool option. This is just the start, in the next few years we will see this implemented in an even cooler way. I wonder if the tuning community will “tune” these with custom sounds and feeling with the shifting, they can already simulate a real manual transmission so that will be another thing to look forward too.
This should be available in podcast format. Not saying to sit down and talk, but upload this video's audio in the podcast platforms. Let it exist in both formats.
Hey I totally love this show! Vin is awesome and I must confess, just recently stumbled across Jason. Both of them are awesome content creators. Im excited to see what they come up with together!
I’m pleasantly surprised about how Vin and Jason play off of each other. Also why can discount Adam Sandler get the ad right on this and not Carmudgeon?
Look up pictures, we're not here to look at the car, we're here to hear about it. If you just want to look at the car, find a fluff channel to watch. We want content from Hagerty/Cammisa
34:43 Jason had me at 'I'd rather (have) a car that's interesting. I would rather have a Miata.' He's right you know. And with proper suspension and exhaust you've got one of the best cars you can buy.
Kill me if you want but I think this is closest to reinventing Lancia Delta Integrale in last 20 years. It has performance in wrong shape and is giant killer on a road.
Pretty hard to ignore a glowing review like this one. Solid conversation too. Hyundai have excelled in leaps and bounds and even though I know electric powered vehicles are next level, and I'm not particularly looking at buying one anytime soon...This one is very hard to ignore. An EV that's actually fun and engaging to drive... It's not always about straight line speed, but it's nice to have. As a gen x, I love modern cars... but the screens and menus and all that, take distraction to another level. I love my Evo 6.5 Tommi Makinen Edition for it's simplicity and raw driving dynamics, It's communicative steering and just plain chuckability when having a spirited drive. Watching a 5000lb SUV driving like that is quite impressive.
Love seeing Vin here! Awesome collab! His thinking of being in 90s/2000s cars mirrors mine. People complain about interiors and I’ve never cared coming from an evo lol
Even with the normall mode (where ECS is on, the torque distribution is 50:50, and the stiffness of suspension is normal), you can slide the rear wheels unobstructed to the point where counter-steering is not necessary.
YOOOOOO, Jason took a leaf from the boys at ThrottleHouse and did an IconsExtra thing, but in the length format that we all wanted ThrottleHouse to do it in!!!! I'm pumped for more of these. I clicked before seeing the video length and it was a pleasant surprise to see the track section start because it sounded like that was going to be a separate video when it was mentioned earlier in the video. 40 minutes of nerd-ramble is great, more please!
I love it! Sounds like the first EV I'd like to own. Simply because of the matrix. I understand the engineering point of view, I think. And I would simply lóve to figure it out. Sounds a lot like my hobby: Computers. How do you tweak it to your personal max preference?

If you don't think this car is fast, go watch Misha Charoudin video of him driving the Ioniq 5N around the Nürburgring while chasing another Ioniq 5N. It is insane. Then watch Ben P video so you can see both views. All I can say is it's awesome.
Keep doing this stuff, guys. Great matchup. Really enjoyed the deep dive and conversation on usable modes and features. This is like a podcast that should accompany a video review that would have otherwise been too long if it included everything you wanted to discuss. Big thumbs up!
OMG that supersonic upshift is, obv soo gimmicky, but sooo cool!!! hahaha
This should've had b-roll of the car, both static and driving interspersed throughout the video, or at the very least multiple cabin shots of the presenters. The flow between Jason Camissa and Vin Anatra is fantastic, and I hope we get to see more of this!
N stands for Namyang, a city in Korea where Hyundai's R&D center is located.
Really? Because they have said it stands for Nürburgring. They are based there. They have a taxi service there.
@@raullasvegas that’s also true according to the brand’s explanation. They develop at Namyang and test it on Nurburgring.
13:59 I think the reason they are simulating the Elantra N, is due to the fact that they can extensively test and replicate the feelings and noises of an Elantra N. But I do agree that they will eventually do OTA updates to incorporate more noises. Start with what you know.
N is making historical waves.
A collab of two of my follows I never would have thought of, but am so glad to have found.
Looking forward to more Cammisa and Vin content.
Bravo!
I can feel how much genuine fun you guys are having with this thing. Thanks for making me grin.
@@stevestogsdill5791 Yes…….they are good actors!
The way my jaw DROPPED at the supersonic backfire oh my god
It's fake
I would have never thought of these two working so well together. Please keep this show going. Great watch
Very happy to see you two together, big fan ! keep it up !
These two are perfect together. The reaction to the "Supersonic" afterburner sound effect is priceless. If there was a bit of post-production b-reel around the ongoing conversation, that would be great (like showing the 21" forged wheels, brakes, triangle CHMSL, etc). Really well done here.
Hmm. I'm somehow not seeing the chemistry in this one. Jason's solo videos are much more enjoyable.
100% agree. His solo stuff is interesting and compelling. Here, it seemed he would get interrupted when getting into his analysis.
Love the fact that Jason is talking about UX in car software and promoting a better experience for users. You know your lingo 👏
Great indepth review guys!!!
The combination of hosts I didn’t know I needed! So excited to see more!
Hat's off to Hyundai. They knocked hit the ball out of the park with the Elantra N and I5N. Affordability + Performance = Best bang for the bucks. 👏👏👏👏
1Run, I loved it. More please. Jason and Vin work well together. Impressed with the Ioniq5 N.
6N is coming in 2 years yay
Fantastic to see one of the first enthusiast focused EVs. Only going to get better over time.
Well that's a pairing I didn't see coming, but it works really well. Hope to see more of Jason and Vin together
"Vin Anatra" has to be the coolest name since Frank Sinatra.
This is basically a podcast of two guys talking. I'll wait until there's a car video
This should be available in podcast format. Not saying to sit down and talk, but upload this video's audio in the podcast platforms.
Let it exist in both formats.
Jason Cammisa is NOT old (says someone slightly younger than him) 😅
I'm a couple of years older than you both and I'm not old!
This is one of my favorite videos on youtube ever. Two of my favorite car people ever. Thank you.
Dam they def cut the budget in this one🔥🔥🔥💯💯💀
Hey I totally love this show! Vin is awesome and I must confess, just recently stumbled across Jason. Both of them are awesome content creators. Im excited to see what they come up with together!
I’m pleasantly surprised about how Vin and Jason play off of each other.
Also why can discount Adam Sandler get the ad right on this and not Carmudgeon?
Some say... he does it on purpose.
@@Hagerty just do a voice-over for the HDC bit, save Jason from himself (and Hyphen).
… yu know what, fair play. Though i’d chock it up to the lads still not having figured out whether it’s better to be hangry or in a food coma
It's Friday, Cammisa and Hagerty dropped a video. Mashing the like button, closing the office door, and kicking up my feet! Cheers!
It’s really Jason photo shopped in as the driver wearing hat and glasses as vin couldn’t make it
This is a combination of people I never expected but so glad to see, hope to see more of this!
I’m so excited to pay double the sticker price for this Hyundai!
Vin mentioned 20k over sticker price… which is already ridiculous. In Europe it’s available with 6% discount 😏
It’s finally happening - EVs designed for driver involvement and fun! It would be so cool if Hyundai made a smaller version of this.
Thanks much guys
N의 총알을 이제 한발 쏜것이다.
I agree with most of viewers, more pictures of the car please, more beauty shots maybe. The guys' comments are just gold.
36 minute video with barely any shots of the car?
Exactly. This is a terrible video
@@tri3pleagent100% agree….
Perfect format actually, I can see B-Rolls of mundane electric car everywhere else. Instead we receive Carmudgeon Lite to listen.
It's a driving review.
Look up pictures, we're not here to look at the car, we're here to hear about it. If you just want to look at the car, find a fluff channel to watch. We want content from Hagerty/Cammisa
I love my Elantra N and seeing this makes me want to make this my very next car. Hyundai is nailing it with the N division...
N is because they were tuned for the Nurburgring, not because it comes after M
N stands for both Namyang which is a division in South Korea and the birthplace of the N brand, and the Nürburgring racetrack.
It’s actually not the Nurburgring, it’s for Namyang which is where Hyundai develops its performance cars.
Nope. Namyang, where Hyundai's R&D center is.
@griffins750 If you pay attention, it is 2 N stack on top of each other. So, it stands for both Nurburgring and Namyang.
@@merrichoang6858 they’ve been lying to us all along!!! It’s really “NN” 💀💀💀
As a gamer, gadget-head, IT pro who's ALSO a car enthusiast, it feels like this car was specifically designed for me.
34:43 Jason had me at 'I'd rather (have) a car that's interesting. I would rather have a Miata.' He's right you know. And with proper suspension and exhaust you've got one of the best cars you can buy.
Two of my favorite RUclipsrs. Definitely want to see more of this series
Hyundai Io _N_ iq 5
Lord this is the first time I’ve ever seen any reviewers who pronounce Hyundai properly. Good job mate.
I´m here for Cammisa, i prefer only him on video... I could care less about the other guy
N stands for Namyang and Nurburgring, which are tracks where these vehicles get tested. 3:13
First Camissa pairing I could not get through. Hard pass thanks.
Love seeing Vin here! Awesome collab! His thinking of being in 90s/2000s cars mirrors mine. People complain about interiors and I’ve never cared coming from an evo lol
Watching these guys trip over their words in awe speaks volumes.
Even with the normall mode (where ECS is on, the torque distribution is 50:50, and the stiffness of suspension is normal), you can slide the rear wheels unobstructed to the point where counter-steering is not necessary.
Jason and vinnie the collab we didn’t know we wanted. Hell yeah guys.
