Thanks Jason for describing the ride, handling and acceleration curve in detail. So many other reviews are missing these details. Same with the seat description.

This new Model 3 Performance is a bargain of the century! 50-60K for a car that has over 500hp, is sporty and yet comfortable, has all the tech features and the best part - no maintenance! Early 2000’s that was a pipe dream. Germans are falling behind. I had 9 BMWs and this new Tesla 3P is going to be my next car.
@@ultrastoat3298 Ehhh.. May I suggest you watch a few OLD Motortrend Head2Head videos?! And besides that: getting explained how an amazing thing gets made might make you appreciate the amazing thing more - shocker.
unbiased...what a joke; first with that hyundai suv pretending to be a sports car at 2.5 tons, praising gadgetry...now with the most soulless car on the planet, tesla model 3. The problem is his narrow vision or, to put it differently, his pov; of course, when you have a dino gt4, a kei car, a lotus, a scirocco, multiple e30s and so on, it is easy to say, powerful EVs are the way to go!, you don't need manual, you don't need ice sounds, just get a comfy EV and call it a day. The majority of us don't have the luxury of owning 10+ cars, thus, his views on current enthusiast cars are simply incorrect. Sure, a small capacity turbo is less interactive than a high capacity N/A....but, even a modern turbo is miles more engaging than an EV. With a bit of work(read tune), you can get something really exciting...a thing which you cannot say about any car with an electric engine. Jason, these days, simply chose to ignore this simple reasoning.
37:44 It's well under $60k...starts at $52k. And if you change little, you can get the full point of sale tax credit and now you're talking $45k. Anyone who buys anything else in its class is just not using their noggin'. Tesla just KILLED the competition.
Meh. Sure, Tesla just killed the competition by all the numbers. But there are many subjective qualities that make up purchase decisions, and favoring them doesn't mean you're crazy. Some people might not want an electric car. Some people might not like the looks. Some people might just prefer the interior, or the sound, or the visibility, or the feel of the brake pedal, or any other of a million possible little subjective things about another car that suits them better.

@@tdrcar I suspect that there will be a niche for performance ICE cars for quite some time. Purchased a used 2019 Model 3 Performance a year & half ago. It’s quickly become my favorite daily I’ve ever owned. Comfortable, great stereo, fast, agile and cheap to own. I drive 100+ miles per day for $35 per month charging from home each night. You are spot on about the ride and suspension issues but overall it’s a sensational daily. Drove a new LR M3 and was really impressed with the build quality improvements and chassis refinement. Can’t wait to drive the new performance but also afraid it might be my next purchase.

I switched from my ICE vehicle late last year and went with a 2023 Model Y Performance and it's the best daily driver I've ever had. I still can't believe I only paid $52k (before the $7,500 tax credit) and it's stupid fast where it needs to be which is 0-60. Just a few corrects for Jason: - Project Highland was internal name for the car refresh (Tesla said the name doesn't exist, but some supplier records refer to Highland), some people theorised it is a reference to Ford's revolutionary manufacturing site "Highland Park Ford Plant". - The "Model E" name is owned by Ford, so Tesla couldn't use that. Hence the Model 3. But I like that it also then competes with the BWM branding. - The badge is actually "Ludicrous" - from the Space Balls movie. If you go into Car UI, it is now three driving modes: Chill, Standard and Insane.
I heard from some people on the inside that "highland* referred to the headlights, or something similar. Internally they used a different name, something related to forests or trees.
@@faeinthebay The Model Y refresh is called project Juniper, which is slated for 2025 production. Project Highland was in reference to the original Ford plant that made the Model T - which made the revolutionary assembly line for inexpensive cars.
I remember thinking, that if they could just improve the top end, make it as luxurious as competitors, and tuned it for actually handling, and keep it under 50k it would be the ultimate value sports sedan
Thanks for this through review, I always value Jason’s opinion. I just want to mention that I am an enthusiast who got a model 3 as a daily, and Jason’s comments have basically read my mind (regarding the tradeoffs for ICE sport sedans are not worth it anymore as a daily). 20:07 I drove a new one. The turn signals on the steering wheel are fine. If it was the other way around people would complain they now have to let go of their grip and do finger contorsions to reach the levers behind :)
That's what I've been saying from the start, but people just hate change, and come up with excuses for it. But for this setup to really make sense you also need variable steering ratio. Without that it's very hard to signal when coming out of a smaller roundabout. Not an issue in the US, but Europe loves roundabouts, even where there's not enough room for them.
It reminds me when the 3 first came out - looking to the left for the speed “would never work”, is “dangerous” etc. etc. No one even mentions it anymore. It’s going to be the same with the turn signals.
He hit the nail on the head. I ordered my model 3 performance because i wanted a fast, comfortable daily that is good at everything but for an experience i would have a Z06
I placed my order yesterday Black/Black. I'm traditionally a BMW guy and have been for almost 30 years. My favorite BMW ever was my first 1987 e30 325is. The Model 3 Performance is the best deal on the market. I was about to buy a Model S plaid, and then I discovered that the tax credit will apply. I have to lease because of my income I would not get the tax credit otherwise. I will install an aftermarket speedometer mirroring the Model S, which I think is really the only thing missing from a near perfect car
The Model 3 has a 10.3:1 steering ratio which is tighter than M3, 911, Miata, C8, Guilia and every other car I've looked into. It has the tightest steering ratio I've ever seen. Jason loves talking about steering ratios and turns lock to lock. Im surprised he didn't mention it at all for this car.
It's an incredible deal, you're looking at a sticker price that directly competes with Golf R/CTR (that you can actually buy at sticker mind you) with performance on par with top end sports sedans.
After seeing all the youtube coverage on the Ioniq 5 N, I feel like I’m being sold the idea of a good car instead of being told why it’s a good car with flaws. I already know how I feel about Tesla but it’s healthy to engage with opposing opinions.
Dude, you can literally just go test drive one and make up your own opinion. Tesla couldn't care less if you want one afterwards. They aren't a car dealership.
Test drive it! Make up your own opinion. But go in knowing stuff. Like the suspension will feel soft and like the base model 3 until you go into a corner. Otherwise you may think it uses the same suspension as a base model 3 initially lol.
@@killr0y I see, that must be because they do not care about their sales drop/job sackings/stock price dependence on future sales growth projections. Facts are superfluous when one has faith.
@@stanmarks3950 I'd say its probably because in most states they are not legally allowed to sell you a car and you have to order it yourself through their website. That, and the fact that they aren't a dealership and everyone that works there is salaried and don't make commission on people buying cars... But please go on about facts being superfluous or whatever made-up nonsense you were talking about. Sounds like a cool story.
As someone who just picked up a CPO Polestar 2, I agree with Jason's point at around 35:00. Modern cars, even performance models, are so electronic and electric at this point that skipping the fake engine noise and oil changes and going to a powerful EV just makes sense for a daily driver.
Totally agree. P2 owner as well. I’ve had a Volvo s60 and Audi a4 as loaners for the past several wks while my other ev is in the shop and it’s been painful to daily drive. We have a lot of hills and constant elevation changes in my area. It’s been dangerously painful as these ice cars are always flat footed waiting for the mild hybrid or turbo to engage or the auto transmission trying to figure out the right gears.
i dont think turn signals is an issue at all. in fact i love it! I would take more issue with the drive shifter being turned digital.... but im ok to live with it
I think he means the 2024 specifically. The prior generation performs well but it's really not a drivers car. The steering changes and adaptive suspension were the pieces they needed
Well I loathed the appearance of the new M3 and M4 but my local dealer had a base M4 with a manual on the lot available for test drives and I could not resist the chance to personally drive it. When I arrived, my in-person impression was the same - this thing is ugly, but then I drove it. It was easily the best driving experience I've had in a BMW in a long, long time. For reference, I have daily driven my 2008 335i Coupe (with manual) since ordering the car back in 2007 and this new M4 was exponentially better in every area except two: steering feel and exhaust noise. Funny thing when I got out of the car, I no longer thought it was all that ugly, it was as though driving the thing had placed a powerful set of beer goggles on me. I could totally see having a current M3/M4 as a daily driver (with the standard seats, not the carbon buckets), yes it's big, yes it has wild styling elements, and yes, it is silly expensive, but damn the thing was a lot of fun to drive, to me at least.
Never sell that E90. You will be crying your eyes out seconds after it leaves your line of sight, if not sooner. I will do whatever it takes to keep my E82 going. Naturally aspirated, 7,000rpm redline, manual, slightly heavy but excellent steering, and the BMW performance exhaust that adds nothing but magical noises. I put the M3 subframe bushings and control arms on it. I heartily recommend the upgrade.
@@mikeni1225 Yup, I think aside from the price difference, the only thing that could push a buyer into the M3/4 is if they preferred the extra configuration choices available - more paint choices, nicer interior fit and finish (leather type, seats, etc.). As far as driving dynamics though, I'd imagine the M2 is more 'fun' to drive than the M3/M4.
@@Magnus-pm7ic Absolutely legitimate question. I can only answer personally and say there are not a lot of new cars with manual transmissions to choose from at the M2/M3/M4 performance levels and price point. So a buyer either makes that compromise or they open up their search criteria to the used car market.

I want a new model 3 performance goodby BMW forever
19:00 The turn signal buttons are oriented based on the direction you would normally flick the stalk. Up = signal right, Down = signal left. All you have to do is feel the bump that spits the buttons and know that pressing anywhere above the bump will signal right, and anywhere below the bump will signal left. I don't own a Tesla but when I test drove the new Model 3 I had 0 problems with the stalkless design.
Took me a while to get the turn signals, and agree they’d be better off left and right. What I did realize however is that if you would swipe a stalk up, you press the top button. If you’d swipe the stalk down, you push the bottom button.
I just bought a very well-sorted 2023 Model 3 Performance though I'm kinda wishing I'd waited for the 2024 Model 3 Performance. I didn't think it would be so inexpensive and so much better! :) Great vid guys, thanks!
priorities of driving fun, saftey, effiency , sustinability, , are very harmonious with each other, but laws like CAFE laws and media influencers are encouraging the market to go against what is good for everyone, and engineers at car companies are simply taking the beating and obeying this sad world order because fo their finance team. toyota real world fuel effeincy is better because bfsc chart , epa testing drives cars slowly so small engines are more effceint in that testing but in real world, over tubro bossting small engine is common in average driver behavior . i want gordon murray auto them to collborate on prius , or at leasta version of prius thats more of a handling car because preserving momentum arounds turns to a extent is less usage of materials , less emissions, than relying on decreasing battery life of regenrative braking system, and account for tire wear dust emission and brake dust (for soem brake types) too. for example, imagine prius with no trunk and had peopel sitting lower by shorter structure height, light cheap slippery areo kit protecting weight focused structure perportioning of glass etc a front wheel drive hybrid and a midrear engine rear wheel drive for better non powered momentum preservation , because battery recycling cannot fully happen and currently has been not happening much, hybrids use less materials than any other setup, that means less emissiosn too. also factor in that weight rmakes crash safety, road wear repair rates, materials usage , all emissions including tire emissions (emissions analytics website, endocrine disruptor microplastic, etc) , driving fun (light weight allows easier traction control and traction loss control and allows less powered steering which allows feeling how close to grip limit car is like mclaren/lotus elise/emira etc) . factor in corbrett report, vocational science of freedom, etc, realizations about th climate crisis issues, CAFE laws and europes equal being nonsense supporting "suv" and electric cars (almost the worst car type and the most popular among these "environmentalist") , ani nuclear nergy sentiment among these "enviromentalist", etc... situation for electic cars gets worse. for example, cafe laws promote taller bodied cars and have larger engines being promoted when smaller ones couldve dont the trick, arms race for "safer" car but that means heavier and that means top safe cars are equal to each other but worse for road wear damage, crash damage agaisnt others, waste fuel battery life etc. we dont have a already mass scale solution , at best there maybe the "electric universe nikola tesla" theories , if you like. they could make a compact 4 seater that is liek coupe with practical rear seat (not as is usually done) ,, and they can have recycled forged carbon fiber and suspesnion that angles and heightens the car to have it lower crash absorbing stuff hit that of tall suvs . if it doesnt hit lower sitting cars well, at least it doesnt get hit in its weaker parts by the other cars stronger parts. driving fun is mostly about the challengeing game of often being near danger because everyone values not crashing, so its exciting. quickness (liek go forces) doesnt really matter. but a more commonly enjoyable driving fun is speeding more at optimal power and RPM level according to bfsc chart (similar deal also in electric power motors) on more rather downhill roads and even very temporarily beyond areodynamicly effceint speed before rather uphills roads, and steering braking minimally and smoothly... this is driving effciently, and you could be obsessed over the greater amount of pursuit of perfection that could be had compared to proper h pattern manual clutch experince, because you could get excited similarly as much about such goals as you would care about not crashing. maybe you can combine both by simulated version of such manual in effceint drivetrain that isnt too non dramatic, as a real h pattern clutch would, or maybe even better if your open minded to having high quality speakers at headrest give a sense of sound communicating how close to grip limit you are to acompany the rather non power steering sort of driving experience , or hearing the limited slip differential torque vectoring so you can feel precisely how its distributing torque and wheel rpm even when you dont have traction to feel it. ..............................all this stuff is good for everything that makes driving fun (except louder driving sounds and more danger by quicker paced driving at race track, where stuff like 0-60 mile per hour in 2 seconds isnt disappointingly boring for the costs because the fun doesnt last long enough) and everyone average crash saftey, and less usage of materials for longer lasting 1st world living standard (sustainability and chemicals toxicity) : light weight, showing the driver how close to grip imit he is at, relativly higher grip for making risky effceint driving safe , easy to own cheap reliable car, hybrids instead of electric car for weight and recyclability and materials usage economy sustainability, mid rear engine weight distribution, some non hybrids, limited slip differential (presumably a effceint one that probably disengages when not used, for less tire wear , stability when making speed on curving downhill roads for effiency) .
@@kalmmonke5037 I completely couldn't disagree more, let's check back in 10 years... Full electric will win out, hybrids are a joke. Battery recycling is like owning a money printing machine and will become very lucrative.
Model 3 interior looks like something Uber would give to their drivers that's a throwaway car. 😂 front looks like a Chinese fish and the rear looks like basic traffic. Idc how quick it is.. if it's without looking good while doing it and no exhaust note or even a gauge cluster screen, HUD, or scroll wheel for the screen it's not a cool or fun car. Yea for average joes that have never been able to afford something quick it's a way for them to finally feel validated but that's all I see.
FYI Mr. Cammisa, battery temp is more important for power output than battery charge level. Many think it’s charge level as the #1 factor that limits the output but it is the temp. It seems you had a properly-warmed one anyway if you got 2.90 WITH a passenger ;-)
Battery temperature may be more important than SOC to get max discharge power when in the 80-100% range. However I would expect very low SOC, less than 20%, will have more impact than temperature.
This is the best discussion I have heard on cars, probably ever. I think Jason hit the nail on the head when he said the newer versions of what used to be the special cars (3-series, for example), no longer have the goods that made them special...such as manual transmissions and naturally aspirated engines. When it came time to buy a car last year, none of those special cars measured up, and I ended up with a near-maintenance-free, super fun-to-drive and economical Tesla. If I can't have a manual transmission, I'll take that 1-speed instant electric motor torque any day. Thanks for this great video.
Total agree. And the fact these ice compact sport cars are so overpriced! For a similar price, you get a sparsely optioned 4 cyl vehicle that drives or sounds no better than a civic.
Jason, I only have so much RUclips time. If you keep making such high quality content all the time, what am I supposed to do? (the 944 episode on Hagerty deserves an award)
My daily used to be an E46 M3 but now I got an M3 if you know what I mean. I still have my E46 and an M6. $52K for Model 3 Performance. Well below $60K. Nuts...
Like Doug has been saying for years, if the family is in the car with you take the car with modern safety. The future is a bit brighter with this review, however some of us can't give up the thought of losing the pure joy of the perfect shift, minimizing non-essential brake indicating/use, and the sense of freedom that comes with 1,000 km in the tank as you set off on an adventure. Thanks guys
I keep hearing the narrative that nobody cares about the R2, yet they pulled more reservations than they expected. If it’s sold for the announced price it will be a bargain and superior option to the Y. Showing the R3 was a brilliant move because it got people who were never going to be interested in a family SUV to get excited about the brand.
Great job on explaining what makes this new Model 3 Performance so great. It really sounds fantastic. Can you clarify was the 2.9 seconds you got with or without rollout subtracted?
its not what it should be, dont waste money on mediocre , make them stop fooling around if they are gonna get your money. concept car videos... how about a video on what you guys think is the ideal car? driving efficiently is speeding up especially on more downhill-ish roads at optimal fuel level and engine RPM(RotationPerSecond), steering and braking minimally but smoothly. optimal effiency for toyota 2.4 inline 4 is 2/3 pedal down in 2k-3k rpm, cvt hybrid maintain constant rpm. not sure whats best to do this in: sport mode, fuel level is more, in eco mode its less. use EV mode if optimal combustion level would speed car too much (often, if car isnt letting you do that without the EV mode, it wont let you us EV mode.) use it a bit from a stop for smooth acceleration then when car is rolling use combustion then maybe use it a bit more. smooth acceleration is part of putting less weight on tires at a moment because: consider tire wear dust emissions and how much it cost to replace tires (most people are becoming increasingly even poorer than they already are and you can invest money into bigger money)like those "xenoestrogen endocrine disputing forever chemicals micro plastics" etc. apply less weight on tires and you'll allow more of that weight handling ability to be used for having more grip for endurance-race-pitstop-avoiding momentum preservation driving fun in the name of efficiency. being able to feel how close car is to its grip limit is good for this goal, similar to the lotus-car-enjoyers ideal. hybrid cars are arguably better than electric car because they lower use of combustion and battery mass and all materials overall without adding so much weight. weight worsens road wear damage (repairs cost emissions , money etc) , worsens crash safety for all (except few rich people who can afford super safe cars in the small chance that they are involved in crash and value their lives and have lives we can value). this is why aptera motors originally made diesel hybrid, but now sells electric cars to max profits and reputation as a "environmentally friendly brand." because batteries are not fully recyclable and combustion fuel is based on anaerobic bacteria that regenerates , which is why oil rigs go back to getting oil after abandoning the almost empty oil well years later . this is why arguably only combustion is proper, in rear mid engine weight distribution , rear wheel drive , with limited slip differential for minimal tire wear even in normal driver driving , for preserving momentum around turns more without too much slowing down by lateral (left /rights) g forces tires. 2-3 trips in compact 4 seater for the once in a year taking a minivan fulll of kids to doctors , is better than minivan all the time just for that rare senario. ayearly family road trip wth all those kids can be doen with rented van. in fact for most people 2 seater is enough because theyll be loneley with no kids.
This is the Ludicrous Badge. As is shown in Spaceballs (1987) the Speed Scale is: Light Speed -> Ridiculous Speed -> Ludicrous Speed -> Plaid. And, yes, they are named after a cheesy Sci-Fi Movie.
I've spent the last year driving a model x with the new turn signals. They are... pretty good after about 6 months of rewiring my brain. Seriously. I'm not kidding. I don't hate them any more. We all just need to tolerate each other. These switches didn't choose to be turn signals in a weird spot. You gotta meet it half way.
What Jason says about ICE vs EV performance cars might be relevant, but I don’t think he imagines the buyers of these cars as single car households. If you’re buying a car to fulfill enthusiasm for driving, but could only have one, would they give up the things they like simply because its not the best expression of ICE possible?
This is why I drive an STi. I can forgive its many faults because I appreciate the raw, authentic experience. Real engine noise, a power plant you have to massage to get the most out of, and a relatively communicative chassis that feels composed, playful, and agile for a car its size. It's low-tech and cheap, but I still get modern infotainment and modern safety structures. I actually find the ride quality bearable--moreso than the '21 Tacoma SR5 I drive at work.
Tell me how you got your wife from a SUV form into a much lower sedan form - car - ish. I would like to use your formula - I could not until now. She insists in a SUVish height.
Drive it first, there's a good chance you'll love it. But also, you maybe right, it's a common experience with Tesla that the wife takes it from you, so giving it her right away could be a smart move. But then you still have to buy one for yourself too.
Jason: The new M3 is not good. Everyone: why? Jason: I don’t like it. Everyone: that’s not enough Jason: Erm, fake noise, yep, and it’s not as good as an E46 M3
18:46 oh good lord...I can't stand this complaint, especially from someone who hasn't lived with one. The stalks were dumb and an appendage that needed to go away. I've spent 40k+ miles in a stalkless Model S and it's JUST BETTER. It's even better in the Model 3 with tactile buttons vs. just capacitive. Your hands never have to change grip to indicate like you do with stalks, it's just the flick of a thumb. Change is hard to wrap your mind around, but I promise if you put aside legacy bias and think about it objectively, you'll come to the conclusion that it's just a better user experience.
To be fair he drives a lot of cars and so likes a common UI for his cars, we know if he used just a Tesla for a month he would not see an issue with the Tesla but he also wouldn't have a job.
yep... I have 150,000 miles on my model Y and it has been the most profitable, safest, most fun, easiest to operate, best UX, smartest, vehicle I have ever deployed for my business. From Texas to Maine to San Diego East to West hands down the best vehicle I have ever owned
You petrolheads moaning need to understand that 1. There will always be classic car licenses and track days, so don't despair. 2. We are today where we were when streaming video began to offer an alternative to Blockbuster Entertainment cassette rental hurt. Anyone who thinks ICE vehicles have any future is delusional, the sub 17 approx young know nothing of driving / hearing classic ICE vehicles and will be educated and encouraged to adopt EVs. I have had plenty of cool German and Japanese ICE, but then I used to play ELO, War Of The Worlds, Status Quo and Jean-Michel Jarre on my Technics SL-Whatever DD turntable and watched TV on a 480P CRT. But I'm writing this in a fantastic Tesla Model Y LR watching these super guys on RUclips and my tunes stream over Spotify or Amazon Music. There is no going back. The cost of providing parts and support for ice vehicles will stop becoming economical once EVs take 5 or more % of the market. Gas stations the same. Anytime now. I'm a tree hugger so want clean air because too many people I know got cancer. And I blame cars because each lived near roads.
Bought vredestein wintrac pros through tire rack two winters ago. Living in North Dakota right now. Had Bridgestone potenzas for non winter weather. As a previous generation M3P owner, I find it hard to believe the new M3P is really better than the BMW M3. Maybe it's time to bring back the Bullshit button?
So what I am hearing a combo of a MX5 and the M3P is the way to go 😅 Will most likely be my combo going forward (already have a ND2 (30th)) and the new P. But we don't have any tax incentives anymore in Sweden
I drive a tuned ‘18 manual M2. Catless exhaust, tuned, Ohlins, the whole deal. It’s my daily and has been a great track car for the 2-3 times a year I manage to get it out there. But now that I can’t get to the track as much (if ever) due to the 5 and 8yr olds, the grind of no rear doors, rough ride, wife complaining about smelly fumes, manual in traffic… it’s all wearing me down. And I’m ashamed to say the M3P looks like it may be my next ride. I suspect there’s many like me.
Keep the M2 for manual weekend fun, get the Tesla for traffic and commute, FSD is too good. It's like DJs using digital equipment for events, but they have turntables/records at home for fun.
One damper valve for compression and rebound is not what is sounds like if you can move between two valve positions for the two events even though they are close in time.
Question on the Giulia. My best friend's dad had a 17 then a 19 TIs. I've spent a bit of time in the 17 and a good amount in the 19. He says all the time how much better the steering was in the 17. I'm pretty sure I noticed a difference too but didn't drive the 17 enough and definitely not pushing it to know. Do you have any info in a change? Only reason I asked was you brought up the Giulia steering.
Agreed. I'm almost at the end of this episode and the Hyundai Ionic N hasn't been mentioned once, despite a glowing review in the last episode. Honda’s privacy notice for all newer Hondalink-capable vehicles says they collect “Driver Behavior Information”. GM got caught sharing their collected DBI (with OnStar) to insurance companies, down to individual trips with incidents of speeding detailed. FordMoCo, GM, Honda/Acura, Hyundai/Kia are all implicated in the same scheme. It’s all laid out in a NYT article from March 11th titled “Automakers Are Sharing Consumers’ Driving Behavior With Insurance Companies”
30:55 - hard disagree on the base 911 only not selling because it's not GT3 levels of experience. I think the reason they have a hard time selling them is that they nerfed the hell out of the options on the base Carerra now, and its still over $100k. They released the 911 T, which makes available everything that car should have, and it seems to have a good following - in typical modern Porsche fashion, though, you're paying $10k+ more for the privilege to not have a nerfed car (just like the garbage that is the 4 cylinder 718).
I agree with Jason! For price a M3P at $47.4K as your only daily performance car is a great bargain. And with money you save you can upgrade to performance brakes, performance brake fluid, performance coilovers, and extra pair of Cup2R plus for track days. And the best part is not paying crazy stealership markups. That’s a pipe dream with other performance car makers when they come out with something that’s 510hp with acceleration under 3sec.
it would be more enjoyable to drive low weight car where you can feel how close to grip limit car is through steering and even ats if you like. you could speed more on downhill-ish roads at optimal RPM according to bfsc graph for your engine (similar deal in electric motor) , speeding up even beyond aerodynamically effceint speed before uphills. aerodynamic efficiency loss gets exponentially worse at linear change in speed but cars design could make it not as bad). steer and brake steadily and minimally . this is like old school endurance racing avoiding pitstops except you could decide to not go as fast as possible for lower ( emissions and materials usage) . rear wheel drive and limited slip diffential for less tire wear and stable powered traction around turns , even lot of normal drivers will make it worth while on accident. sport car mid rear engine weight distribution rear wheel drive also helps preserve momentum around turns because under braking car tilts forward and too much weight on front wheels lowers grip, greater tire wear . weight worsens crash saftey for everyone in crash (tire grip can resist against the car moving in the way of danger due to crash) , worsens road wear damage, grip levels (unless you are ok with expensive tire replacements often) , increases materials usage and emissiosn including tire dust" xenoestrogen micro plastic" . other weight problems can be fixed with money. crash saftey with forged recycled carbon fiber and crash absorbing steel (to prevent car form moving in way of danger in crash, weight must be balanced with relying on tire grip for this goal). active suspension option moves car into a angle and height for strong heavy lower end of crash structure to absorb crash of such sturcture of the car itll hit. because electric battery and motor cannot be fully recycled, hybrid uses less materials to reduce materials usage and emissions (biological toxcity. i know climate crisis is attribution to human activity seems false, that CAFE law and anti nuclear , corbett report , NWO ,etc all show its a deception) compact 4 seater coupe with adult size reat seats (dont think the usual and youll realize this is a big deal) is all that actually needed. areodynamic transparent shell over the thermal and anti sound materials shaped for weight reduction. maybe 1.8 liter inline 3 hybrid with optional first gear for high torque (for sporting, towing, ,and skilled eco driver)

unbiased...what a joke; first with that hyundai suv pretending to be a sports car at 2.5 tons, praising gadgetry...now with the most soulless car on the planet, tesla model 3.

Just a few corrects for Jason:
- Project Highland was internal name for the car refresh (Tesla said the name doesn't exist, but some supplier records refer to Highland), some people theorised it is a reference to Ford's revolutionary manufacturing site "Highland Park Ford Plant".

Jason loves talking about steering ratios and turns lock to lock. Im surprised he didn't mention it at all for this car.
They talked about the steering for ages, including pointing out that steering ratio is not just dependent on rack, but on the arm length on the hubs.
Miata has much shorter wheelbase so it doesn't really need as tight turn ratio.

Insane Model 3 looks like it could be fun on the weekend, and then a car to drive to work. That's sounding way too sensible....
I prefer smaller wheel base M2, I don't care the bigger car goes faster and handles better on track. But then again the M2 is heavy like an EV.
In this price bracket why would you even compromise slightly on a just "ok semi ugly car" though ..
@@mikeni1225 Yup, I think aside from the price difference, the only thing that could push a buyer into the M3/4 is if they preferred the extra configuration choices available - more paint choices, nicer interior fit and finish (leather type, seats, etc.). @@Magnus-pm7ic Absolutely legitimate question. I can only answer personally and say there are not a lot of new cars with manual transmissions to choose from at the M2/M3/M4 performance levels and price point. priorities of driving fun, saftey, effiency , sustinability, , are very harmonious with each other, but laws like CAFE laws and media influencers are encouraging the market to go against what is good for everyone, and engineers at car companies are simply taking the beating and obeying this sad world order because fo their finance team. toyota real world fuel effeincy is better because bfsc chart , epa testing drives cars slowly so small engines are more effceint in that testing but in real world, over tubro bossting small engine is common in average driver behavior . i want gordon murray auto them to collborate on prius , or at leasta version of prius thats more of a handling car because preserving momentum arounds turns to a extent is less usage of materials , less emissions, than relying on decreasing battery life of regenrative braking system, and account for tire wear dust emission and brake dust (for soem brake types) too. for example, imagine prius with no trunk and had peopel sitting lower by shorter structure height, light cheap slippery areo kit protecting weight focused structure perportioning of glass etc a front wheel drive hybrid and a midrear engine rear wheel drive for better non powered momentum preservation , because battery recycling cannot fully happen and currently has been not happening much, hybrids use less materials than any other setup, that means less emissiosn too. also factor in that weight rmakes crash safety, road wear repair rates, materials usage , all emissions including tire emissions (emissions analytics website, endocrine disruptor microplastic, etc) , driving fun (light weight allows easier traction control and traction loss control and allows less powered steering which allows feeling how close to grip limit car is like mclaren/lotus elise/emira etc) . factor in corbrett report, vocational science of freedom, etc, realizations about th climate crisis issues, CAFE laws and europes equal being nonsense supporting "suv" and electric cars (almost the worst car type and the most popular among these "environmentalist") , ani nuclear nergy sentiment among these "enviromentalist", etc... situation for electic cars gets worse. for example, cafe laws promote taller bodied cars and have larger engines being promoted when smaller ones couldve dont the trick, arms race for "safer" car but that means heavier and that means top safe cars are equal to each other but worse for road wear damage, crash damage agaisnt others, waste fuel battery life etc. we dont have a already mass scale solution , at best there maybe the "electric universe nikola tesla" theories , if you like. they could make a compact 4 seater that is liek coupe with practical rear seat (not as is usually done) ,, and they can have recycled forged carbon fiber and suspesnion that angles and heightens the car to have it lower crash absorbing stuff hit that of tall suvs . if it doesnt hit lower sitting cars well, at least it doesnt get hit in its weaker parts by the other cars stronger parts. driving fun is mostly about the challengeing game of often being near danger because everyone values not crashing, so its exciting. quickness (liek go forces) doesnt really matter. but a more commonly enjoyable driving fun is speeding more at optimal power and RPM level according to bfsc chart (similar deal also in electric power motors) on more rather downhill roads and even very temporarily beyond areodynamicly effceint speed before rather uphills roads, and steering braking minimally and smoothly... this is driving effciently, and you could be obsessed over the greater amount of pursuit of perfection that could be had compared to proper h pattern manual clutch experince, because you could get excited similarly as much about such goals as you would care about not crashing. maybe you can combine both by simulated version of such manual in effceint drivetrain that isnt too non dramatic, as a real h pattern clutch would, or maybe even better if your open minded to having high quality speakers at headrest give a sense of sound communicating how close to grip limit you are to acompany the rather non power steering sort of driving experience , or hearing the limited slip differential torque vectoring so you can feel precisely how its distributing torque and wheel rpm even when you dont have traction to feel it. ..............................all this stuff is good for everything that makes driving fun (except louder driving sounds and more danger by quicker paced driving at race track, where stuff like 0-60 mile per hour in 2 seconds isnt disappointingly boring for the costs because the fun doesnt last long enough) and everyone average crash saftey, and less usage of materials for longer lasting 1st world living standard (sustainability and chemicals toxicity) : light weight, showing the driver how close to grip imit he is at, relativly higher grip for making risky effceint driving safe , easy to This new model 3 performance is LITERALLY the most bang for buck best car you can buy from any manufacturer anywhere!
@@G82Watts why are you so mad?
FYI Mr. Cammisa, battery temp is more important for power output than battery charge level. Many think it’s charge level as the #1 factor that limits the output but it is the temp. It seems you had a properly-warmed one anyway if you got 2.90 WITH a passenger ;-)
It's different for different battery chemistries. Some prefer this, some prefer that...
I was literally about to order m340 and now this is available. The price and performance are impossible to beat. I suppose I'll be ordering one.
Same. Was looking at the M340, but after the tax credit Model 3 Performance is like 20k less and faster.
Nuts...
TESLA is the BEST vehicles , PERIOD.
Love the distinction between experience cars and fast cars. Heavy, FI, go-fast automatics don’t make sense in a world where competent EVs exist.
💯. Get a Model 3 Performance and a nice used Boxster or GM Kappa platform for the weekends. No need for modern performance automatics.
I'll be leasing an R2 until the R3X is available. I'm enthusiastic about driving cars, so I'll be buying one.
Great job on explaining what makes this new Model 3 Performance so great. It really sounds fantastic. Can you clarify was the 2.9 seconds you got with or without rollout subtracted?

concept car videos... how about a video on what you guys think is the ideal car? driving efficiently is speeding up especially on more downhill-ish roads at optimal fuel level and engine RPM(RotationPerSecond), steering and braking minimally but smoothly. optimal effiency for toyota 2.4 inline 4 is 2/3 pedal down in 2k-3k rpm, cvt hybrid maintain constant rpm. not sure whats best to do this in: sport mode, fuel level is more, in eco mode its less. use EV mode if optimal combustion level would speed car too much (often, if car isnt letting you do that without the EV mode, it wont let you us EV mode.) use it a bit from a stop for smooth acceleration then when car is rolling use combustion then maybe use it a bit more. smooth acceleration is part of putting less weight on tires at a moment because:
consider tire wear dust emissions and how much it cost to replace tires (most people are becoming increasingly even poorer than they already are and you can invest money into bigger money)like those "xenoestrogen endocrine disputing forever chemicals micro plastics" etc. apply less weight on tires and you'll allow more of that weight handling ability to be used for having more grip for endurance-race-pitstop-avoiding momentum preservation driving fun in the name of efficiency. being able to feel how close car is to its grip limit is good for this goal, similar to the lotus-car-enjoyers ideal.
hybrid cars are arguably better than electric car because they lower use of combustion and battery mass and all materials overall without adding so much weight. weight worsens road wear damage (repairs cost emissions , money etc) , worsens crash safety for all (except few rich people who can afford super safe cars in the small chance that they are involved in crash and value their lives and have lives we can value). this is why aptera motors originally made diesel hybrid, but now sells electric cars to max profits and reputation as a "environmentally friendly brand."
because batteries are not fully recyclable and combustion fuel is based on anaerobic bacteria that regenerates , which is why oil rigs go back to getting oil after abandoning the almost empty oil well years later . this is why arguably only combustion is proper, in rear mid engine weight distribution , rear wheel drive , with limited slip differential for minimal tire wear even in normal driver driving , for preserving momentum around turns more without too much slowing down by lateral (left /rights) g forces tires.
Rivian R3 looks like a Plymouth Horizon.
I had the sister, the Dodge Omni, as my first car at 16 years old and totally agree 😂
Or a Yugo.

The simple answer is yes.
If i don't own an EV, how do I come to that conclusion, sales number, which are the vehicle that are deciding the most?
This is why I drive an STi. I can forgive its many faults because I appreciate the raw, authentic experience. Real engine noise, a power plant you have to massage to get the most out of, and a relatively communicative chassis that feels composed, playful, and agile for a car its size. It's low-tech and cheap, but I still get modern infotainment and modern safety structures. I actually find the ride quality bearable--moreso than the '21 Tacoma SR5 I drive at work.
I don't think I'll replace my ICE cars for this, but I might absolutely look at a Model 3 Performance for the wife when our lease is up on our iD4.

18:46 oh good lord...I can't stand this complaint, especially from someone who hasn't lived with one. The stalks were dumb and an appendage that needed to go away. Your hands never have to change grip to indicate like you do with stalks, it's just the flick of a thumb. Change is hard to wrap your mind around, but I promise if you put aside legacy bias and think about it objectively, you'll come to the conclusion that it's just a better user experience.

Supposedly they Civic Type R is vulnerable to hackers who can use widely-available tools to lock, unlock, and start the car.

That performance for 52k is insane

it would be more enjoyable to drive low weight car where you can feel how close to grip limit car is through steering and even ats if you like. you could speed more on downhill-ish roads at optimal RPM according to bfsc graph for your engine (similar deal in electric motor) , speeding up even beyond aerodynamically effceint speed before uphills. aerodynamic efficiency loss gets exponentially worse at linear change in speed but cars design could make it not as bad). steer and brake steadily and minimally . this is like old school endurance racing avoiding pitstops except you could decide to not go as fast as possible for lower ( emissions and materials usage) . rear wheel drive and limited slip diffential for less tire wear and stable powered traction around turns , even lot of normal drivers will make it worth while on accident. sport car mid rear engine weight distribution rear wheel drive also helps preserve momentum around turns because under braking car tilts forward and too much weight on front wheels lowers grip, greater tire wear . weight worsens crash saftey for everyone in crash (tire grip can resist against the car moving in the way of danger due to crash) , worsens road wear damage, grip levels (unless you are ok with expensive tire replacements often) , increases materials usage and emissiosn including tire dust" xenoestrogen micro plastic" . other weight problems can be fixed with money. crash saftey with forged recycled carbon fiber and crash absorbing steel (to prevent car form moving in way of danger in crash, weight must be balanced with relying on tire grip for this goal). active suspension option moves car into a angle and height for strong heavy lower end of crash structure to absorb crash of such sturcture of the car itll hit. because electric battery and motor cannot be fully recycled, hybrid uses less materials to reduce materials usage and emissions (biological toxcity. i know climate crisis is attribution to human activity seems false, that CAFE law and anti nuclear , corbett report , NWO ,etc all show its a deception) compact 4 seater coupe with adult size reat seats (dont think the usual and youll realize this is a big deal) is all that actually needed. areodynamic transparent shell over the thermal and anti sound materials shaped for weight reduction. maybe 1.8 liter inline 3 hybrid with optional first gear for high torque (for sporting, towing, ,and skilled eco driver)
