    I didn't even realize this was a thing. I thought I just had to live with the fact that I couldn't lower my tailgate, lol. Thank you for all the time you invested in showing us this.

    A lot of work and expense to get that clearance. I opted to turn the head of our jack and I still have enough light to hook up in the dark. I applaud your ingenuity.

    I would probably add a bolt to the front of the bottom plate for additional stability, especially since you had to cut the bracket apart. Nice job!

    I just discovered your channel. I own a Casita and was having that tailgate issue. I solved it by replacing my jack with one that telescopes. Was much easier than what you went did . Say hello to Boondocking with Dennis if you see him at Goose Island SP .😁Will watch more of your play list ! Thanks

    Well, the first issue you have is that you do not use your stabilizer to support the weight of your RV also, you need a square solid pad made out of wood is fine to put those stabilizers down onto. The safest way is to use some jackstands or a bottle jack that way you can lift it up if you needed to, but jackstands will work just fine. Your stabilizers are only to stabilize the RV from rocking side to side when you walk in it. Using it to hold the weight of your RV is a recipe for disaster. It may not have happened this time but it will happen. They get tweaked and bent. Glad to see all your different modifications. This is definitely a good one.

    Seem like a lot of work, but thank you for sharing,, I might find me a metal guy and have him make one so that we don’t have to do all the modifications. Little concerned with all the mods of killing the integrity of the trailer tongue. Safe travels and happy RVing to you and your family.

    I'm talking the head of the tongue jack can in all tongue Jack's I've seen be rotated in it's own post by removing 2 screws turning the head 180 degrees the reinserting the screws thus eliminating drilling new holes

    Were you not able to rotate the tongue jack unit within itself 180° to use existing holes? The tongue Jack's I've seen can be rotated.

    • @OutsidebySide

      @jimortiz5312 We chose to not rotate the tongue jack so we could keep the light in the front. Thanks for watching! 😀

    heres hoping you own this trailer outright lol i was told no hard mods such as this can be performed on a trailer if its being leased as you are basically only renting it until its completely paid for

    • @OutsidebySide
      @OutsidebySide  2 года назад

      @dana Christie Yes, we do own our trailer and thank you for the information. On this particular video, this would be considered a bolt-on removal modification that can be undone. We appreciate you watching our video! 🤩

    Question: before you began to remove the motor, were you hitched up to the truck or could you remove it while it’s standing?

    • @OutsidebySide
      @OutsidebySide  Год назад +1

      @jimmylira5174 We used our stabilizers & Jack stands to support the trailer while we removed the tongue Jack. Hope this helps and thanks for watching! 🥳

    Why not just rotate the head 90° by loosening the 2 13mm bolts and tapping with a 5/16th 18 tap? A lot easier.

      @tbivie44 We didn’t rotate it because we wanted the light to face our trailer. Thanks for watching! 🤩

    You can just loosen the head and rotate it on the shaft, no re drilling required

    • @OutsidebySide
      @OutsidebySide  3 года назад

      @Dale Nelson yes, we have seen people do that but it’s not possible on ours and we don’t want it facing the opposite direction. We appreciate your suggestion and thanks for watching our video! 🤩

    can you tow with the tailgate down?

    • @OutsidebySide
      @OutsidebySide  2 года назад +1

      @C.I.A. You cannot tow with the tailgate down and would not even try under any circumstances. The goal of this video is to be able to open the tailgate when hitched in order to get items from the bed of the truck. Thank you for watching our video! 🤩

  • @cdsmit27
    @cdsmit27 2 года назад

    It appears that bracket was designed to split the load of the tongue between the upper and lower plates. After it was cut in 2 there was zero benefits to bolting it to the bottom of the tongue as all the tounge weight is now just on the top section.

    • @OutsidebySide

  • @59plexi

    im surpised you only have 1 battery....?
    if you turn the jack sideways, you pick up extra clearance from the tailgate....i had to do that and it works better than being straight forward

    • @OutsidebySide
      @OutsidebySide  3 года назад +1

      @C.I.A yes, we definitely plan on purchasing a 2nd battery. We need one! It is a great idea to turn the jack sideways but the light on the jack would not have faced the front. @Roger Laroche We did look at the Jack-E-Up but we didn’t want to have to remove & attach the Jack each time we open our tailgate. Our Jack is electric and wired into the battery. Thank you for watching our video! 🤩
