Never ceases to amaze me how manufactures keep slapping together these RVs and people come up with some pretty good fixes and ideas. It would be nice if the manufactures took notice of these things. I mean being able to open the tailgate to your truck should be a pretty obvious thing. Keep-em coming Johnny.
I sincerely want to thank all those who posted videos on this issue and how to fix it. I have a 2021 F250 and the tailgate did not clear the jack motor. It is a heavy tailgate and I'm not getting any younger. It was awkward to try to get anything in/out of the truck bed and this set up rendered my bed slide useless when hooked to the RV. Following the videos, I got everything I needed and made this mod in less than 15 minutes. No issues whatsoever. The tailgate now easily clears the jack motor head and now I can easily access the truck bed when the RV is hooked up. Thank you all!!
Thank you, yea trying to make videos a little more to the point. Show whats coming in the video and start the test or how to...👍 Thanks for the comment and thanks again for watching 👍
Thanks. We have a new trailer and our Lippert was already tapped at 90 degrees. It will appear not tapped but it has been powder coated after tapping so you can just run the bolt in and clear the coating.
Thanks for the great straightforward video. I remembered your tips and it was a breeze. It took longer going to the store for the thread tap. Finally solves the problem of the 4Runner's hatch getting blocked. Excellent!
Thank you very much for this. I had watched someone else's video and it made the fox seem onerous. Like another of your viewers, I had all the proper tools and completed this in 15 minutes. It does amaze me how manufacturers, even the good ones like GeoPro, do not seem to learn from the community. I'd have someone in the engineering department whose only job was to search for identified issues and make the fix for the next trailer going out the door, not waiting for the next year model. Thankfully, we have RUclips to learn from.
Thanks for a great video. I just bought a travel trailer and after the first trip was thinking in ways to do just this. An easy fix that I will do this weekend. And since I already had the taps the fix if free.
Thanks for sharing. It is surprising how easy it is to fix this to accommodate a truck tailgate. I am glad my lift was pre-drilled. Too bad the manufacturers did not tap these holes and save us a trip to the hardware store and the expense of buying a tap that we will never use again. I wish I would have investigated this fix four years ago!
Great video! I NEED to do this! Right now, my rig is covered up and sleeping for the winter. Come spring, this is the first thing I do! In our world, we have roles for hitching/unhitching, Mrs. runs the jack, so I will put it to the right! for her!
This is awesome!!! I need to do this to my truck and had no idea how it could be done. Great demonstration. I am crossing my fingers that I have enough cord length to do this.
I thought I would add an update. I finally did this MOD to my jack and I have to say it was as easy as your video made it look. I just wish I did this sooner. I did have to drill two new holes, as I only had the original 2 holes. That was no big deal though. Then I used the tap screw and "Presto" my jack head is now facing the driver side!!! So, if you are on the fence with this project, don't be. It is truley easy. I did remove my LP tanks and the metal bracket they sit on for good measure. @@johnnysweekends
Thanks a lot for this video. I was looking exactly for how to do this. I have an F-250 and the tailgate hits the power head. I think I have an 8mm tap and a few metric bolts so I may switch to metric instead of buying a tap.
This is awesome. I have a different jack and I was wondering how to accomplish this, now I am headed to HF for a tap kit 😎. Thanks for the inspiration.
Yea it works as well but its just looser. Thats what i went with at first and it was slightly loose. And if was like no way it would. be metric. Well the 13mm fit like a glove lol....craftsmanship lol.
Tons I have been involved with boats and jet skis most my life. The newest not much yet because problems are minimal and I decided I may stop working on some of the latest ones except basic maintenance. Just not worth buying a full diagnostic computer to only work on a few skis here and there. But still working on those and ski boats.
My 2024 has the holes already tapped. Took the propane bottles and brackets off to loosen the wire harness only to find out I could have just rotated it and re-bolted it at 90 degrees.😄 If you have a more recent jack, you might want to see if the holes are tapped before you pull the head off.
may i ask what model Lippert jack is that? cause i bought the same one on amazon but it didnt have the second set of holes so im trying to see what im missing. thank you for you helpful wideo!
Well this was assembled in 2017 late so I know they have changed them some. But some people pull the power head off and drill new holes and tap it. There is a way still with the new ones
Great job on the video! I just did mine and there were no second set of holes. I have a 2021 model. I had to drill and tap the two holes, but otherwise worked great!
Ahh was wondering, because someone else said they didnt have a second set of holes. Must have changed the way they are making the poles. . But you made it work.....great job..👍😃
About how far in did you have to drill the pilot hole, before you tapped it with the correct tapping bolt? I haven't looked at mine yet, so I don't know if I have a hole or not on the other side. Crossing my fingers for that. But grateful you made a post explaining what you had to do to make this work.
It’s thin metal so drill all the way through with correct drill that goes with the tap you will use and hardware. Which never know they could switch it from previous years.
13mm and 1/2" wrenches are pretty much interchangeable was the point of the commenter above. 13 is slightly bigger than 1/2". (0.512") Either way, thank you for the video. :)
I have the same tongue jack. You will have to unbolt the 4 bolts underneath the head and turn it 180. Granted my hard tank cover won't fit on tanks now, but I at least I can open my tailgate.

And thanks for watching 👊🏼
Great demonstration. Thanks for bypassing the typical long "lead in" most vids have!

Your welcome. Yea I was not happy right off lol. So I was like let me get my drill lol.
Glad I could help and thanks for watching ..👍🏼😀
You make it look pretty easy
I try 😁👍🏼
This mans got movies up

@karinstauder1232 awesome 👍🏼😀
I hope the power jack people are seeing this
Thanks for the info that it’s a 13mm bolt head, but 5/16 threads because I have to drill my own holes too that someone else mentioned.
Still a great mod ..👍🏼

Its a metric thread
I think you will find that a 1/2” socket will work on that 5/16 bolt as well.
Yea it works as well but its just looser.

Thank you worked like a charm ,although had to drill and tap new holes
Yea some you do but glad it works… definitely nice to have
and my tailgate opens now@@johnnysweekends
Love it…. Surprisingly they haven’t changed this or thought of something different
Just took the head off and there are only side holes, no front/back holes! How to proceed? Can it be turned by un-bolting it from the frame?
It can depending model
Good tip video. Do you have any watercraft tips and tricks?

Well that’s cheating lol. Although I have since moved to a 5th wheel
Haha, I just commented they could just add 2 other holes for an option. Glad I saw this. Mine is a 2024. I’ll look at it first.
Worked great, Thanks
Awesome…😀👍🏼

I mean, even if the manufacturers just add the additional holes as an option! Will they claim warranty voiding crap?
They will void the warranty if you look at them wrong 😑 😂
Great video
Thank you, and thanks for watching..👍🏼😀
Nice thank you.
You’re welcome 😀👍🏼
Good video thank you.
You’re welcome 😀👍🏼
My 2021 Tesla Model Y hatch would hit the light & power button when the hatch went up or down. I'm ready to rotate my smart jack from this video.
Awesome glad I could help, and yea pretty simple..👍🏼😀
Thanks, just want I needed!
Awesome glad it helped ..😀👍🏼
Right to the point that’s my kinda videos
Your welcome, trying to make them better and to the point and get enough info for everyone.....👍😃
Is it 5/16-18 or 5/16-24?
Sorry i did mess that up in the video but its 5/16-18....
Ill fix in description
Look's like 18
Cus that's a half inch head, not 13mm.
Sometimes it depends on the bucket of bolts they use at the time. Nothing is consistent with Chinese manufacturing lol
13mm and 1/2" wrenches are pretty much interchangeable was the point of the commenter above. 13 is slightly bigger than 1/2". (0.512")
Either way, thank you for the video. :)
Doesn't work on all tongue jacks ...FIC 3500 is on of them !
Yes true, as new models have been coming out it will be a little different. But there are a ton like this still. I see plenty at the camp grounds lol
I have the same tongue jack. You will have to unbolt the 4 bolts underneath the head and turn it 180. Granted my hard tank cover won't fit on tanks now, but I at least I can open my tailgate.
13mm = 1/2” inch
So it’s not metrics
