    The best tank I ever got in my mk4 Golf TDI (2001) was 737 miles. That tank ended up being 49.18mpg. I never cracked 50 in it, but I got close! The best I've done in my mk7 Golf TDI is 46mpg. These diesels are super excellent on the highway.

      It probably was 50 mpg….bc think about it you most likely never ran it empty so there were a few numbers nonetheless in the tank

    My mom had a 2012 sportwagen identical set up and I remember getting 45 mpg avg on trips. I myself now have a 16 Jetta 1.8t gas manual, atank verage on my long commute at 70 mph is 38-40, I took a fishing trip that was country roads (set at 56 mph) got 44.5mpg over about 200 miles. I love my VW's!

    Nice! Once your off winter fuel, the milage will go up. That's bang on to what my 2014 tdi runs (mostly highway as well). I usually push another 4-6mpg when the winter diesel is done. Also, a splash of power service diesel treat (white bottle) never huts in the winter.

      @@DanielJaegerFilms one other thing to remember, you pretty much need vcds to do the fuel filters on them too. if you dont have them primed properly, it will take out the high pressure pump on those engines. also, be sure to check for metal fragments in the fuel fiilter when doing a fuel change as it signifies a bad high pressure pump. other than that, they are pretty trouble free.

    I have a 2013 Diesel-powered Beetle, I average between 42 and 48 miles per gallon. I drive approximately 90 miles a day from home to work and back, I'm using about two gallons of fuel to do this. Yes, diesel is now at or near 5.00 dollars per gallon, but I couldn't get this mileage with my 2009 gas-powered Beetle, with the same 14.5 gallon tank. I don't have to be convinced about the economy of a diesel.

      That's really not that good..
      If you had a US gallon of fuel, assuming you have an Imperial gallon.. you would be right around 50mpg which is about comparable to a US based prius, in the US a Prius will get 50+mpg on gas, which is cheaper to buy, in a bigger car, with more hp.. that whole conversion thing is rough.. lol.. 👍😉 personally I'd take the mpg loss to not drive a prius.. but an imperial gallon of fuel is nearly 1.5 gallons of US gasoline or diesel.. which in the USA is 9/10 a us gallon.. and by measurements a full us gallon is .83 of an imperial gallon... I think it works out to about 0.7 imperial gallons as a comparison..

    Putting gasoline into a diesel.... well, it's been done... both by accident, and on purpose. When I was a kid in the 80's, I got a job pumping gas after school and on weekends. Where I lived then, Winter saw dips down to -45 sometimes for a few weeks in Jan/Feb. Back then, the VW Rabbit was the best-seller, available with diesel engine. We had some regular customers with Rabbits and pickups, big trucks, etc. They would get a small amount of gas deliberately put into the tank, maybe 2-3 Litres of gas, and then fill it with diesel. The gasoline helped keep the diesel from gelling (or freezing), and also aided in the ignition process. I don't ever recall any of them blowing up an engine, or coming back in something else saying that their engine puked. When the cold snap would end and the weather would warm up a bit, they'd adjust the mix ratio to a bit less gasoline, and of course when the weather went back to just barely freezing at nights or expected even warmer, they'd go back to just filling with straight diesel fuel. Some who were more daring than others, would bring their fleet of jerrycans, and fill them up with (colored) stove oil that we also had available. We weren't allowed to pump stove into a vehicle, unless it was a reefer, or a farm tractor, or a backhoe or other off-road vehicle. Stove oil is lighter and a bit drier than diesel, and the cloud point is lower. They could fill up all the containers they wanted to, take it out of sight, and put it into their car or pickup if they liked, and some did just that. I don't recommend stove in warmer weather, you want the heavier diesel for the lubricating properties it offers your pump and your injectors. Also, I don't recommend using colored fuel in any highway vehicle, whether commercial or private. If you get caught with dyed diesel or colored gasoline, you'll be facing an ugly investigation while they try to determine just how long you've been cheating them out of fuel and road taxes. The dye for diesel is pretty potent stuff, and if you use it, the dye will remain visible in your fuel filters even after you're running clear diesel again. One thing to be caught in a jam and use colored fuel in a pinch to get you home, but to run the risk of using it regularly could end up biting you in the behind.

    • @JeffLMisc
      @JeffLMisc 4 года назад

      VW said to add a small amount of gas with the older ones in their owner's manual. The new ones (like the newer CDI stuff) is a no-no though.

    • @DanielJaegerFilms
      @DanielJaegerFilms  4 года назад +2

      Yeah we have some of the colored off road diesel for sale here in MO, but I plan on using nothing but regular diesel from truck stops if I can. I've seen many a diesel truck accidentally filled with gasoline at work, so far we've been able to simply defuel them and flush everything out without having to replace any parts of the fuel system. Now, water or DEF contamination on the other hand, that fuel system self destructs almost instantly.

    One Tip from Germany.
    Get rid of the EGR(use a simulator) and get the original EDM Stage V emissions software for it. You'll get better MPG won't soot up your intake and also your DPF will have a longer run before it does a self cleaning. If you get rid of the DPF your engine will live a long and happy life

    • @DanielJaegerFilms
      @DanielJaegerFilms  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for the tip! You can definitely tell when it starts a DPF cleaning, the fuel mileage drops by about 50%.

    • @no-damn-alias
      @no-damn-alias 4 года назад +1

      That alone and after they got new software for it everything got worse.
      It now has a higher EGR rate, which will soot up your intake and EGR valve. Moreover you have shorter runs between self cleaning and the higher amount of soot is also worse for your engine oil.

    I've got a 08 Passat 2.0TDi with DSG. You'll find fuel economy goes down about 4-5mpg in the winter and another couple of mpg if you use the climate. I can return 55mpg on a run easily in summer, less though if you do some urban stop/start miles. All I do in winter is let it idle for a minute on a cold start up and you're good to go. Is there a TSB in the US about using 5w-40 C3 low ash fully synth on higher mileage cars? There is in Europe, and it also makes for a quieter engine. 👍

      Yeah I realize it could be better if tuned and deleted but going from my 17 MPG Excursion to this 40 MPG Jetta is a big savings for me.

    My Ford C-Max does better. Have 12.5 gal tank and typically get 600 miles to a tank

      Well yes, but your ford c-max is a hybrid, significantly newer, and probably has 150-200k miles less than the jetta -- not really a fair comparison, although impressive mpg ratings on your end.

      I've driven the C-max and they're fun efficient cars, but there's no way I could have picked one up for $1300 like I did this car.
