I been a Nightwish fan for sometime and never seen this video until now. Ironicaly this is one of my favorites. And the video is very cool. Tarja looks very elegant and beautifull. The dress is very very beautifull.
This reminds me of all the people I've lost, dead or otherwise... We must never forget the people who were and are in our lives... Never forget those people, and never let yourself be forgotten.

I totally didn't know that until today, that this was a different vocalist. Yeah, I'm going to get flack, but in my defense I find both people have extremely amazing voices. Also it was only by looking up more about Nightwish and the reading of RUclips comments that I discovered the whole Anette vs Tarja thing. Nightwish as a whole makes some of the best music around, and its freaking awesome. I'm glad I stumbled upon them when I did! :D
Guys, it's Tarja! It was recorded back in 2005, her last studio work with Nightwish. Her voice has changed, so of course it will sound different. Anyways, amazing song!!!

Seeing all the discusions about who is better Tarja or Anette..Nightwish was one of the best hard rock bands ever in theyr own Gothik style,it still rocks with anette in the new way to sing and im more than sure that this band wont disband to soon even if they change more ppl.thats a thing we dont need to forget..the team spirit..thats what Nightwish is.not tarja or anette is nightwish.. Nigthwish is the desire of more that you feel listening to theyr songs and the wish of RocK! NW Forever!
This version both, have Anete and Tarja's voice. The opening lines and all the verses is by Anette but certain parts the chorus contains Tarja's voice inlaid with Anettes to give it substance. The ending is taking from a Tarja live performance.
Tarja sings this song in 2 diferent ways, being this one more soft and lighter, also a bit slower, and the other one more heavy on the vocals and a bit faster. I think Tuomas wanted to give something new to the song and a new video too, and Tarja made it giving multiple textures to her voice, notice that Operatic timbre is still there when she wants! She sings Live both ways (in my videos she sings like in the first version. After 2005 she usualy sings like in this version - see End of an Era)
Amy is a great singer, but Tarja... that's a whole different story. I love her and Sharon from Wt too. There music make me cry but gives me joy and happiness at the same time.
The decision was for the better of both Nightwish and Tarja. Look her up, she got a great "solo" career. And Nightwish is doing better then ever. The band is happy, and getting more and more popular.
@americastan I learned Nightwish thanks to the video of HMHS Britannic. It's called HMHS Britannic sleeping sun. That beautifull ship combined with that voice....how I fell in love from that time with Tarja's voice!

This was his idea of how this song should sound like in the first place (he said it him self, just cant google that interview). Both videos are good, but I prefer vocal in the older one. So, you're wrong, it is Tarja, and you're right, it is different. It doesn't mean you have to get your panties in a bind over it. There's two very legit versions. I found this out with 5 minutes of research and then posting after I knew what I was talking about instead of posting without knowing or acknowledging all possibilities.
IsthisFinland, the original video was made in a summer field with Targa in a red dress (and a bathtub) and a totally different scenario. They later remade it. This is the remake. It's still Tarja but for this video she sang in a little more operatic style. That's why it sounds different. I think this video is more appropriate for the context of the song. A Valkyrie searching the battlefield for the souls of heroes to take to Valhalla for the final battle of Ragnarok.

I too reaqlly like Tarja's classical singing voice and style, and the mix of classical with metal was really best augmented by her classical singing style.
She was dismissed from the band, some say its the fault of a guy called Cabuli, he called her greedy for money,etc. However she is an amazing singer. She has now gone into opera and has 3 gold awards and 3 platinum awards, having been called "the voice of Finland" by Tarja Halonen, the Finnish president. Furthermore the new singer is also really good.

They wanted her to try and be more comercial and not have so much operatic sound. thats why it sounds weird. I like the first version better but i love when she sings this style live like in end of an era cause she sneaks in her operatic vocals haha I love it.
