To adjust the steering wheel alignment, you just loosen the draglink adjustment sleeve and turn it to lengthen or shorten the draglink til the wheel is straight. (one tie rod has reverse threading.) Takes about 3 minutes. drive it down your driveway while the sleeve is still loose to check and adjust . BTW, this has nothing to do with the alignment of the wheels at all. ;)
Looking at a 89 Silverado with the steering wheel upside down. Hopefully what you said is what I need to do. How a person lets it get that way is beyond me
I'm glad to see you doing all this these trucks are a classic I have a 1982 and it's true check your drag links and adjusting slive your doing great looks killer have fun I do
Put a late 80's to mid 90's jeep XJ cherokee steering shaft in your 80's Chevy k5 or K10 to get rid of a rag joint, takes a bunch of slop out of the steering
Thanks for the video.....this info will help me install a new power steering gearbox on my 69 Chevy C10.......and hopefully get the steering wheel back to perfection.
dude i'm have steering problems with my 83 k5 Blazer and i was about to change out the draglink. Just changed the PS pump and now i'm thinking i need to change the gear box just to ease my mind. i have a lot of play in the steering plus my steering wheel is naturally turned to the left. thanks for this video. i also have no mechanical background and plan on doing the majority of the work to my truck.
the two parts connected to the pitman arm is the tie rod ends right and in the middle is the adjustment sleeve. I Need to know cause I have a 68 c10 on a 76 frame and mine needs replaced
Not too bad at all. It was a bit tough breaking the bolts loose and the part itself is pretty heavy. It helps to have a 2nd set of hands to help hold the new one in place while you bolt it back together. You also have to remember that you will need to bleed your power steering once you put the new one in. You should be able to knock it out in a few hours.
Nick Daniels well the suspension on this older truck is very bumpy, so I cannot speak to hell smooth or not smooth the rough country lift is. This truck is a very bumpy ride.
rockauto.com is a lil cheaper then advanced or autozone, but i have he same problem on my 89 3500, but im not to worried about where the steering wheel sits, just that theres a half inch of play... makes for an interesting drive, i have seen a few way to remedy it, hopefully it works, good vid tho, im sure it will come in handy later on
lol....same problem here, i can turn my wheel about a half revolution before it starts to actually turn the wheels, glad it not to epensive to change the drag link..

This is what I needed. Thank you!

They make it only go one way so you don't achieve doing the wrong thing. Good job, nice truck.

thanks for the video going to take a stab at my k20 this winter
Hello. The draglink is bolted on backwards. The short end bolts to the pitman and the long end goes rearward.
juan parra thank you for pointing this out, first time I've done one so it will be on my list of things to correct.
@@MrHeathman914 but does it really matter?
Thanks for the video im planning to make the same repairs on my k5
thanx man, helped me out...its a drag link! lol

So loosing up the draglink will help to straighten out the steering wheel ?
Same problem on my 84 k10 steering has aot of play the guy before me changed the gear box supposedly but it sits sideways when driving above 20
I bought a new gearbox & steering wheel was off by about 90 degrees after , turns out the gearbox splines were not dead center from left to right
Super Helpful!
is it pretty difficult to change the steering gearbox yourself? im pretty mechanical but have never done one efore. I have a 96 chevy z71

Notice that you are running a rough country lift, how does it ride? I have been looking into them and I have found mixed reviews.

My 91 dually is the same way. I cant even see the speedometer.
Must be in Canada. I hear Chad Brownlee.

Eagles dirty laundry
Just get a alignment
You should cheap out rockauto.com they are reliable and cheap prices not cheap quality parts
Thats a tie rod, not a drag link.
Bad lighting cant see it
