Hey my steering was off about oh I don't know it was like sitting at about instead of 12:00 it was off to about 10:00 like maybe 45 or 50° turned to the right. It was kind of hard on the old 78 Chevy Scottsdale Big 10 to get the nuts broken loose and I really had to use a cheater bar to get that pipe wrench on there and rotate those collars forward and I had to rotate them three full rotations-- I did one revolution at a time on both of them before it straightened out but it's straightened out perfectly for a truck I only drive a couple hundred miles a year to run to make runs to Home Depot or to the trash brush. Too the directional signals are working much better and I do appreciate all your help and encouragement with this video thank you so much! My mechanic had had to replace an idler arm and then it was off like this. All the shops I went to wanted $110 for an alignment saying that's all the could do. But the truck was tracking well--no big disturbance crossing uneven lanes or anything--so why would I need a full alignment?? One guy even said it would have to be broken loose from the gearbox???? I needed to use 6 sided socked as 12 point sockets would just slip. It would have been pretty hard to get broken loose for the rotations if I hadn't had ramps to get it up a bit to alternate between a 3 foot and 18 inch cheater bar on the pipe wrench to do the forward rotations on each side. But not only did I get it done that day and not have to wait for an appointment, nor wait for them to get done with it nor have some one try upsell me a bunch of parts, So thanks again for bringing power to the people!! :)
In my case, it was a simple matter of unbolting the steering wheel from the column, then putting the wheel back on straight and rebolting it :) Being a 31yr old diesel vehicle, no a single airbag in my car to worry about.
this video helped a lot. i was going to take off my steering wheel. if that didnt work, i was about to take off my rag joint. if that didnt work, my pitmann arm. you answered every question that i was asking and save me a long time of effort and frustration. luckily i have a blazer so all i need to to is adjust the draglink and i dont need to worry about messing up the alignment
Great video guys. Thanks for the tips. That's also a nice truck. My car does the same because I need an alignment. I just replaced all of the movable parts on my front end. Ball joints A arms tie rod ends sway bar bushings and stuff. If I died because I followed your repair advice and died I would haunt the arcade store lol. That way I'd be able to play all your games you repair lol. Have a great weekend guys.
Great vid man, I'm in New Zealand and my 95 C1500 has the same problem as yours. I'm just waiting for the 4 new shock absorbers to arrive from the U.S and I'll chuck them in and then adjust the tie rods. I've adusted the play out of the steering box too which is also a good idea. Thanks for the vid.
Thanks man,,I have a 99 suburban 2wd Charlotte nc,, charged gear box now steering wheel is off center,,will adjust tie rod ends. Also I have a warranty for free alignment with Firestone,,,think I'll let them. ,thanks for the vid n info
In my case it was because the old gearbox had so much sloppiness in it, when the guy did the alignment he couldn't get it all straight because the wheel would move a large amount before it moved the tires. If everything on the vehicle is nice and tight or new, when they do the alignment this is usually one of the last things they straighten up for you, getting the wheel centered. If they're not willing to take it out on a test drive and then do more adjustments, it's also kind of hard to get perfect because if it's off a little bit you have to go back and loosen those sleeves back up...
Nice fix Ron!!..was hoping you'd drive past a gas station so i could check out their prices lol..average price here in new Zealand is about 2 bucks a litre
There's also not that much they can adjust for alignment on my vehicle, the alignment was basically factory locked into place and the tyre shops can just do little tiny movements to correct it. Good ol' Nissan :P
Just a heads up people, I just put a new rag joint and lower half of steering shaft in and guess what, I had to put the tie rods back to where they were to get the steering wheel straight again. So a way to save from adjusting tie rods is get a new rag joint.
Great tutorial! There's a lot of stuff you can do at home and not have to pay a fortune to shops!
Yep
Thanks Fernando!

Nice vid. Also make sure your tire pressures are right before messing with the tie rods.
That’s a good tip
I thought that was a gangsta thang like laying down in the seat while driving. 😂
haha I'd be more likely to put a rocking chair inside like the beverly hillbillies did :)
Lol
Very good video. Thank you.
You’re welcome
Very good I have to do this to my truck just replaced steering box and now wheel is off
Hopefully it helps
Hey Ron do we know what causes this to happen in the first place? What makes it get out of whack like that?
In my case it was because the old gearbox had so much sloppiness in it, when the guy did the alignment he couldn't get it all straight because the wheel would move a large amount before it moved the tires. If everything on the vehicle is nice and tight or new, when they do the alignment this is usually one of the last things they straighten up for you, getting the wheel centered. Potholes
Great 👍 information, you told us brother, thanks

Nice fix Ron!!..was hoping you'd drive past a gas station so i could check out their prices lol..average price here in new Zealand is about 2 bucks a litre
North Carolina is in a gas shortage at the present moment yesterday it was 250 a gallon today it’s over three dollars a gallon
@@mybrotherdonnie that's cheap considering a gallon is 4.5 litres
Right before Trump went out it was $1.30 a gallon
Price in UK is £1.20 per litre $1.70 or therabouts US
Current price of diesel here in the South-West of Western Australia is $1.29.9AUD / ltr, Petrol I believe is somewhere around the $1.32.0AUD / ltr :)
Thanks!
You’re welcome thanks for watching
Helps a lot. Thanks!
Glad it helped
I've an '87 Chevrolet S-10. This is the same for this truck as well, correct? ⚡👍⚡
Yep
Do you have to have the front end jacked up ?
It makes it easier without any weight on the front end
There's also not that much they can adjust for alignment on my vehicle, the alignment was basically factory locked into place and the tyre shops can just do little tiny movements to correct it. Good ol' Nissan :P
Don’t you love them?
Is Donnie off fixing pinball machines?
Yep I had to beat one with a hammer the other day straighten out a flipper
Donnie can fix anything!
did you turn the passenger side down or up ??
Down down down
Just a heads up people, I just put a new rag joint and lower half of steering shaft in and guess what, I had to put the tie rods back to where they were to get the steering wheel straight again. So a way to save from adjusting tie rods is get a new rag joint.
Every time you replace Parts you gotta readjust
Whoever did your front end alignment should have made sure your steering wheel was centered when doing yiur alignment. Don't go there anymore.
Ok
