    You are so informative. I graduated FIDM with an interior design degree about 10 years ago and it's been a long time since I have worked on my portfolio. Even though I have been working in design for 10 years, this really helped me see what interviewers are looking at right now.

    Hi! Great video, your portfolio is nice! I really appreciate how you critique your own portfolio as you have gotten more real life experience, the advice you provide is very relevant. Please keep the “real” Interior Design content videos coming! It would be very helpful, specially if you have Revit experience from the Interior Design perspective, there are not that many tutorials available geared to how Interior Designers use Revit . Like on how to work with architects’ linked models and how an interiors project is coordinated with other disciplines, or creating an interiors finishes only schedule, just a thought...or perhaps a plea! LOL. I graduated 12 years ago and my college was not even teaching Revit until a few year ago, so I am looking to grow beyond the walls, windows, and basic Revit rendering phase to continue my career as a commercial Interior Designer. All the best to you!

    Thank you for the informative video. Though I am curious why you mention not colour rendering your elevations. Im in my 3rd year of persuing Interior Design in college, and Im looking around for more clarity on how to create my porfolio. And so far Ive seen elevations without rendering and a one next to it with rendering to get a better idea of how the materials and colours tie together.
    Waiting for more content. :) xx

    • @McKayleePalmer

      you should totally do a colored 3D rendering but I wouldn't do a colored elevation because that isn't the intent of elevations. those should be clean and give information!

But ever since my first class (microeconomics) i also felt totally outta place and ngl my world shattered bc of this (I have depression and a weak mind lol). Now i am trying to build myself up again and i was desperately looking for something that i really want to do with my life and something that i feel capable to do. • @ALLiiive
      @ALLiiive 3 года назад +2

      Hey! Mind if I answer as well? ♥
      Did I have doubts in choosing this career path? : No. ... However it wasnt my first choice. I wanted to either Teach Elementary School or study Fashion Design & Fashion Merchandising / Fashion Business. I got a certificate in Child Development & instead of moving forward to get an Associate & Bachelor Degree in Child Development so that I can Teach. I always hear that Teachers don't get paid well, so that made me shift from studying a 9 - 5 type of job to going for something much bigger & that I can profit big time from. So I started going to Fashion School however I wanted to study at an University level & ended up opting in for something more affordable which was a SEWING CLASS. 😣🙄 Not at all what I wanted to study. ... & I stopped trying to purpose a Fashion Degree & started trying to think of ways to bypass school - which in Fashion YOU CAN DO. You dont NEED a degree ... So as I tried to figure out what I was going to do. Interior design was another interest I had. But didnt consider it a career, just an interest. But I started wanting to move towards Interior Design & come back or stop chasing Fashion based careers, no matter how dreamy & how much I love to look at & wear high fashion. So TODAY - here I am LOOKING FOR MY NEW OFFICE to work out of as an Interior Designer! & I HAVE NO DOUBT on where I have ended up. I LOVE it! :)
      I dont have any complaints yet.
      I am VERY HAPPY I found something that feels good to do. ♥

    • @McKayleePalmer
      @McKayleePalmer  4 года назад +1

      absolutely not!! drawing is something someone can learn really quickly. as for DIY you really don’t need any skill in that. interior designers typically don’t do a lot of DIY stuff for a job. that’s more people who do it for a hobby or interior decorators. If you have a passion for design I say DO IT!! 🤍

      most colleges will have you take required courses for the major before you are accepted into the program and in those classes you will create work to help you get into the program. then while you are in school you will create work that you will combine into a portfolio that will help you get a job after graduation. I would say don’t stress about that stuff right now! you will create lots of work to showcase during your college years!!

      you don’t necessarily need a portfolio to get into school. typically you will do your first year of classes then apply and compile all of the projects you worked on to be interviewed. the portfolio is meant for after graduation and finding a job! I would recommend maybe doing a job shadow for a day at a residential interior design firm and then a commercial interior design firm or architecture firm and seeing if either of those spark your interest before changing your major completely or transferring to a new school!

What should I do to early on so that way I can get into a good interior design college? • @McKayleePalmer

      hey eva! you don’t necessarily need to take specific high school classes to get into a certain school besides the required curriculum (depending on where you live). if you school offers a graphic design course or any art classes I would take a bunch of those just to prepare yourself for what those classes will be like in college and to get a good knowledge of foundation set. being active in after school activities and clubs is more for getting scholarships and not so much getting into college. so make sure to apply to all and any scholarships that you can! being involved in clubs is always good for your own personal reasons to make you happy and for friendships and connections with others and is still highly encouraged when you’re in college. hope this helps! ❤️
