This video just yanked me out of the life crisis I’ve been dealing with for 3 months. Thank you for becoming a trailblazer and being one of the first RUclipsrs to dive into the specifics of this career path. Cheers!
I studied interior design, I designed living and office quarters for off shore oil drilling platforms and drill ships . Had I not had some drastic life changes I would have continued on this path . Ship builders that build every kind of ship, from yachts , cruise ships, or commercial transport ships, are all possible design opportunities. One could design the interiors for travel homes , or even private jets . There is no end to it. Any space people live in , work in or use which could also be outdoor spaces.

I always recommend first decidng if you want to go to school or just get hands-on experience in the field. If you want to go to school then research schools in your area. If you want hands-on experience then start by learning skills that designers and design firms can use. For example, take an online course for Sketch-up or Revit or CAD.
I really wanna do set or exhibition design, I'm already in my final year but I just feel so hopeless and helpless because I love always ran away from doing anything extra because interior design wasn't what I wanted to go for, it was what my parents wanted. I finally had the opportunity to join our university's drama club as a set designer but then covid happened and we were online for a whole year and a half. I don't think there's gonna be enough time in my final year to join clubs. I'm not great with softwares too, so I'm really panicking about getting a job at this point becauseI have less than a year to actually step up :(
I just found your videos and love it! I’m considering going back to school to get a certification or degree in this. Are those positions you can get with existing interior designer businesses or more like freelance work?

It would would be the same process as becoming an interior designer, hunn. Some people choose to go to school for interior design/decorating and some decide to figure it out on their own. If you do decide to go to school then you just wouldn't be so stressed about going to an accredited school.
Is this after graduating with an associates degree? or BA? Is it worth getting your BA? im suppose to graduate with an associates degree in 2023 but im not really sure what to do after?

They don't really have decorating classes in school but you can def learn decorating on your own with online classes from sites like Domestika: www.domestika.org/en/courses/area/40-interior-design?atag=9fcb25&
@@cezarmv4240 You can most likely apply to the same jobs that I talk about in this video. You'll just need to have practical experience under your belt to find a way to learn through experience what you didn't learn in certain classes.
@@SandySaintilus thank you for your response. I'm definitely going to look into it because I want to decorate homes for sure and possibly renovate as well.
There are actors guild and unions in various cities that can help with that or you can research designers in your city that do set design and potentially try and intern with them.
You cannot really design commercial design anymore unless you get your NCIDQ certificate and you cannot get NCIDQ without an education from a CIDA accredited institute. Commercial is very restrictive because of code. This is like this in all state. NCIDQ is lobbying this in every state. Florida made sure to put this in their law. you can get fine or even jail time in most states for practicing commercial design without your NCIDQ certification or without a four year degree. You are not even allow to be an apprentice to a actual designers. Actually they will not hire you because there is a lot of liabilities in commercial and hospitality design. You can go to prison if you do not understand code and material which is require and why they are require. If people get sick a lot from a particular hospital there will be investigation done including the design aspect of the hospital. If you designing public spaces codes becomes extremely tough because of all the things that can go wrong. You have to think about occupants and circulations. with all this you have to understand finished and structural material as well. I wish we did pretty design. a CIDA Interior Design institution will never teach how do to pretty design. The creative part of design is self driven. They only teach you the safety part of design and that is including, lighting, structure, codes, temperature control, material used, specification, and ergonomics, many others. pretty is the least of their worry.
The 6 jobs :))
•Commercial designer (1:02)
•Home staging (2:54)

•Showroom representative (7:09)

@@SandySaintilus I really like it, but my parents don't allow me to follow the area I want.. I don't know how to explain but, here in Portugal, when you enter 10th grade, you need to pick an area, the best one to interior design is arts, but my parents don't allow me, because the school it's far..
which job do u think would make the most money?
Good question! Honestly, no idea. Maybe start by checking out websites like GlassDoor or a ball park figure
Hi Sandy how can you get a degree in interior design if you can’t draw
It's okay if you can't draw. They teach you to draw in school and been if you're not good at it you can use rendering software to make up designs
The college I want to go to has interior design technology , will I be learning the same you learned in interior design ?
What do you mean by "interior design technology"? If you're talking vabout software then yes you'll probably learn the same stuff 😊
Can I also be an event stylist?
Hmm do you mean an event planner? or just an event stylist?
Can I as an interior designer work multiple jobs that are different but all in the design of spaces
You sure can! Tons of designers do the different jobs that I mentioned in the video
I’d love to know how to get an internship without any experience.
There's a video on my channel where I go over how I got my first internship! Hope it helps :)
Could you be an interior designer and decorator?
Can you study both interior design and decorating? I wanna do both 😂
They don't really have decorating classes in school but you can def learn decorating on your own with online classes from sites like Domestika: www.domestika.org/en/courses/area/40-interior-design?atag=9fcb25&
Mam , I am from India and I complete my B tech in civil engineering but I likely to interior design
Good luck pursuing interior design! 😊
is there a huge difference between interior architecture design and just interior designing?
To my knowledge they are the same thing just different ways of describing them
Can you do a video with a associates degree
Do you mean jobs you can get with an associate's degree?
Yes
@@cezarmv4240 You can most likely apply to the same jobs that I talk about in this video. You'll just need to have practical experience under your belt to find a way to learn through experience what you didn't learn in certain classes.
Okay thank you
great video, it's not everyday that China Anne McClain gives me tips on a path I'm interested in pursuing
video on getting an job with no experience yes please!!!(:
I recommend checking out my video on how to get an internship with no experience. In that video I go over how to get paid experience.
Does interior designers also renovate houses?
They sure do!
@@SandySaintilus thank you for your response. I'm definitely going to look into it because I want to decorate homes for sure and possibly renovate as well.
i want to be a home stager
Have you ever checked out the International Home Stager's Association or the American Home Stager's Association? They might be helpful resources
What if you only have a certificate?
Enthusiasm and experience are really your best bet for getting your foot in the door to these positions. It's okay to have a certificate!
How would someone get into set design?
There are actors guild and unions in various cities that can help with that or you can research designers in your city that do set design and potentially try and intern with them.
Too bad Apple doesn’t have cars yet 😞. Maybe 2020 would’ve been better if that was the case
Thanks for the info!
what are the 6 jobs and explain them my teacher put that up 😂
Lol seriously?! They used this video in their lesson plan?
Sandy Saintilus yea
That's so cool! Thanks for sharing 😊
