- my first animatic! Recently been obsessed with Epic and I’m loving the Thunder Saga! Drew this in a week and I hope you can enjoy it with me!

3:24 I didn't imagined it like this but the crew bowing is actually extremely fitting, before they always adressed him as captain, but not only is the "Odysseus" line indicating how Odysseus is no longer just a man but instead a monster, but since the emotional tie changed, it also return to their older relationship : Odysseus is their king.
This return to him being their king first also foreshadow well how he's gonna sacrifice them since he see them as servants first instead of friends for the sake of his "monster" attitude.

To be fair, treason against your king is often punishable by death and they had already committed treason by opening the wind bag. The second they committed actual mutiny, that's all they were owed. But he still tried to save them from themselves until he couldn't cover for them anymore. Eurylochus can stand by his own words in Mutiny, "If you want all the power, you must shoulder all the blame." He wanted the power, he took it, and the blame for their deaths must now be carried by him.
@@heatherkinslow7058 That's... Not really what I was focusing on, I was referring to how the end of the animatic showed that their relationship returned to the more distant and strict one of King and subject.

I think this also continues into mutiny where they keep ody alive but erurylochus replaces him as captain, and they no longer listen to him instead treating him as a passenger/prisoner on the ship
I love how the "monster" is basically a depiction of Ares. War without reason, against all that stand in his way.

Yes but also I see that thing and my mind immediately thinks of Achilles and frankly if there was anyone that ody would think of as a man turned into a monster it would be Achilles
I adore Eury's reaction at 2:37. "Aight so we'll probably just kill them quickly and- wait what? ...this is dark..."
Same! He's on board with the killing part, but the whole "cutting off their tails and then tossing them back in so they'll die suffering" wasn't something he was ready for
It is pretty karmic tho since dying to sirens definitely wouldn’t be quick
@@Gioppdumister well yeah because they’re part fish so they can breathe underwater they’re not going to drown. They’ll probably be eaten by sharks, but that also gives them time to pray to Poseidon who almost certainly made them. They may well be some of his kids remember what happened the last time Odysseus crippled one of his children
@@charlottewalnut3118 These versions of the sirens are different from the original Ancient Greek ones (they were half-bird half-woman in the old stories) but I'd say that breathing underwater would probably need gills which are often found on only their fish halves/the tails. But even if they were Poseidon's daughters (which I don't think they are, though there are various thoughts on who their parents are), we know in Ruthlessness that Poseidon would not care if they suffered and died, so long as they died. I think this is a great show of Odysseus' newfound ruthlessness after going through the Underworld.
The way Eurylochus looks at Odysseus like "Really?... okay, you are the boss"

I love how you showed the crew cutting off the sirens' tails and 'Penelope?' watching as they did. and the men depicted as monstrous shadows. and then the whole crew bowing to Odysseus just made so much sense in that moment
Right? Most animations do not show the killing, but I think it adds to the pathos.
By the way, do you think they ate their tales? Because the phrase "we are the ones who feast now" was a bit ambiguos to me...
@@RC-xl8se That was my first thought too when I heard the lyrics. I mean, everyone was really hungry, I wouldn't be too surprised. not to mention it'd explain how they all didn't die from hunger between the whole scylla ordeal, mutiny and finally thunder bringer(hunger is soooo heavy LOL)
its things like the bowing that make u remember that Ody isn't just the captain of the ship but a King. Anyways amazing animation

I love that you showed Odysseus's crew plugging their ears with beeswax all the other animatics didn't show it, I also love the scene where his crew are eating food made from the sirens flesh and they're like "yay food at last!".
Wait does this mean they only threw their upper halves back in the water and cooked up their lower halves to eat? XD

This is such a good animation! My favorite part was probably how the monster showed up at the end and guided Odysseus, showing that the prophecy is coming true. He will make it home, but it will be the monster and not him.
This is the first one I've seen where when Ody says "Cut off their tails, let them drown" that Euryloches for a moment thinks "Wait, wtf bro that might be a little much, why not just stab them?" Mercy to the Cyclops gone to the complete other end of the spectrum to maiming and leaving the Sirens to drown a long and painful death via bleeding out, starving, suffocating...
Yours is the first animatic of this song I've seen to actually show them cutting off the tails and throwing the sirens back into the water
The crew bowing to their king is an amazing touch and I love it so much!

I don't get the Wonder Woman reference?
In the original, Odysseus skipped the beeswax and instead asked his men to tie him to the mast, so he could experience the sirens' song. Iirc they didn't even sing about Penelope, they tried to lure him with knowledge. Which is extremely based.
@@FunFilmFarenot sure when this was but DC eventually revealed how Amazons don’t just die off from lack of men among their ranks.
They basically board passing ships every now and again, have an orgy with the men there, and then murder them all once they’re done.

Him as the monster holding the net of sirens took me back to him holding the infant over the wall, that was such a good scene, so many elements were perfect in this!!

I really like how you portrayed the sirens, they were just doing their normal hunting thing trying to survive when a post underworld Odysseus showed up.
The sirens horror at 2:37 is so good!

I noticed that this animation show us how the man made monster is born from the inner of mistakes and sacrifices and with how ruthless is odysseus I felt some sympathy for the seirns 😢

now I gotta think about it like...is the tail of a siren basically just...like...fish? Can they like eat the siren's tails and then they wouldn't have needed to kill Apollo's cows?
While it is cruel the way that Ode tells them to cut off their tails and let them drown we must keep in mind that these sirens have probably murdered hundreds of men without sparing them.
In a way karma finally caught up to them and the monsters encountered a much more scarier and dangerous monster l than themselves.
Amazing work tho fr I love that you actually showed the brutality behind such an act.

Don't really know, i don't even know if he does in the original odyssey either or this is something Jay added in EPIC.
There are multiple origins for scylla too, so it could be related to that.

OMG YESSSS- This song is literally my favorite of the whole show so far, just because of how much Ody has embraced the darkness. I love villains, and this animatic does so amazing at portraying him. I especially love how all the crew bow to him at the end and the look on his face. All hail the King of Ithaca!! >:D

God I love the flashbacks with the Cyclops, Polites and Penelope, they look so good! Also literally every frame with the Monster is amazing and I especially love the one where it's clinging on his shoulders. The Sirens look so scared and the way you drew their tails getting cut off was so cool!

odysseus physical aging on the boat was fantastic
so many shots that go hard in this, but my favourite is 1:21 because you're showing it the way I felt when i heard the song for the first time. All of their foes so far have been so close together in time that it really does feel like they're just ganging up on odysseus together
The fact that the song reminds it's listeners as to why they are in danger in the first place is because he showed mercy, and because of that he lost his best friend

ok so this is officially the 5th time of watching this in a row and I fricking LOVE this!! I love the details in the animation I swear it looks like the siren says the "he will chase you high and low" line but I'm probably just seeing it coz of how awesome this is
Wow this is my favourite animatic of Different Beasts! I love the allusions to the Troy saga, and the way monster Odysseus holds the bag reminds me of how he holds the infant according to most animators! You didn't hesitate from the brutality od this song either, amazing work! Also, are the black shadows with white eyes influence from gigi?

holy shit this is amazing!!! i LOVE all the visual callbacks to the horse and the infant. really really hits. the shot at 2:15, that's just similar enough to holding the baby over the wall... and then the series of flashback images up until 2:52, where it seems to be him actually holding the blanket... brilliant work. and then the absolute brutality of the rest of it. i love it. thanks for sharing!!

Hi YourLocalAnimations. I'm wondering how do you feel about the sire's pleading to Ody to spare them and after that Ody saying to cut there tails off and let them drown, do you feel bad for the siren's or pity. Do you agree with how cruel Ody acted.?? also very nice animation!
to be fair the sirens do mercilessly kill hundreds of sailors 🤔
@@YourLocalAnimations_ yeah true And we eat hundreds of cows chickens ect (I'm not vegan) The siren's where seeing us as food now if any of them had survived (very likely ) they will see humans as enemies and might be even worst than before. There are people in the real world who kill and don't care and might also laugh and joke about how many people they have killed. If you go with the saying eye for en eye everyone goes blind. You don't win against monster's by being a monster yourself.

And then Poseidon had to show up again and sank all of his city because the lesson was kill your opponents, not torture them to death. Also, sirens are part fish. They aren’t going to drown, which means they’re going to have more than enough time to let out a nice hate field prayer to Poseidon.
