      @Duster_Garage just an fyi with the improved combustion chamber, you may find less total timing is needed. 2 things dictate timing. 1- piston top. Though minimal impact, piston top can affect total timing needs. 2- combustion chamber. Truly, this is it. Example- My fuelie heads needed 38-42 degrees total. Swapping to vortec heads, now it's 33-35 and quite sensitive. Even 1* makes a difference. The fuelie heads needed a 2-3* timing change for a noticeable response. Dyno has proven many times. Same shortblock with only head swap(and vortec intake of identical brand and style.

    I raced a Super Stock Duster auto back in the 70s. The best manifold was the modified LD340 Eldbrock. Better than any of single planes and that was with stock 915 J heads. IMO, today, the RPM Airgap and the Trick Flow are probably the best with your new heads. I ran a 727 with the J Converter back then. The best et was 11.20s @ 121mph. I love the term “by quality cry once, try and save money cry, many times“ or however, it goes lol. Next week, I’m supposed to take the engine to the engine builder that had originally built it but using this is an opportunity to maybe dump five grand into that for aluminum heads and a new cam and what else it needs. So maybe it’s a money question right now. I definitely would love to be in the high 12sor low 13 at the very least. Awesome! With the poor air quality as opposed to your earlier runs with the J heads you made some great strides. I remember you replied to my comment about considering a single plane intake that you’re considering trying one. I was thinking though that with the improving 60’ even if slight a single plane might take away from that. So possibly if you have space, perhaps try an open spacer with the current dual plane and see what kind of results you get without cracking any gaskets first. If it’s promising and your initial acceleration isn’t impacted much then green light the single plane.

      Trans brake is mainly for consistency so you can leave at the exact same rpm every launch without having to look at the tac and not focus on the light. It's not a turbo car that needs to build boost which benefits from a two step to bump into the light which is what helps build boost before leaving. We typically run a bit faster foot braking these old Mopars.

  • @dannyfasttcars8612
    @dannyfasttcars8612 16 дней назад +1

    Man i wish we had your bad air days during the day. We typically race at around 3500-4200Da during the day. Very last race of the year at night we are pleased with low 2000 DA. Sometimes dip into upper 1000's. I try not to base what the car can run with better air since its generally a given(generally every drop in 1000 DA = 3% gain in Hp ) and try to focus on optimizing the tuning so the car can run optimal during our sup par air days then leave the good air days for Personal bests. Any day at the track with sold gains and no breaks is a great day. With the better trick flow chambers it may like less timing. Id try 2 degrees less just to see. All i do so its quick n easy while waiting in the staging lanes is just give the dist a slight clockwise nudge. When I'm street racing mine prefers 30(helps to hook) n about 33 on the track so im always back n forth. Then can check with a light at home if need be. I don't recall if you had a AFR gauge? If so noticed any variance? If not may try adding two jets since the better heads may want more fuel. What carb accelerator squirters? Basic Stock Holley use .028 while Quick Fuel n like brands tend to use .0031. If still stock all of us small block guys have picked up using .0037's front n back. I had just put .0045's in mine at the moment but didnt get a same day A/B to know if it worked or not but i have been making PB so left them in for now. The M1 is a good intake. The port openings are fairly small. While the Trick flow are slighly taller than stock so once a guy tries it and if it does like your combo some porting should be in the cards. Unless its already worked a bit which is a bonus. The more converter the car has the more of a benefit the M1 will shine. I try not to expect gains with any change since every little combo detail can easily favor a different part. With the milder cam and not sure what your converter is stalling at? But the upper RPMs n head flow will definitely prefer the M1. Especially if there was ever plans for a cam change down the road. Looking forward to seeing the data and chipping away at the gains which is always my favorite part!

    Have you tried locking out the timing yet???
    Did you lay the intake gaskets on both the intake & heads to see how bad the size difference was? I know you mentioned you don't want to port your current intake because of the upcoming 408 build. *However* it might be worth picking up a used RPM intake and doing a port match for the current combo.-
    The right scope would give you the view from both directions.
    👍 Carry on.

      @@peskypeet Locking out the timing is something I would like to play with in the future. As far as the total timing, I think it’s where it needs to be. Set at 35*. It’s a pretty small chamber on those heads.
      The Felpro intake gasket I used is the exact size of the head’s intake port. And the intake manifold is actually gasket matched. I did that years ago with my iron heads. It probably could benefit from a deep port match and runner clean up though. I’m really excited to try a single. See if it helps top end or just kills a bunch of torque. We’ll see.

      @@Duster_Garage Intake port situation doesn't sound so bad then. I think I'd try both of those intakes your bud has & see how it reacts. Pretty awesome when you have options & only have to pay for gaskets, gas, & your time.

      @@Duster_Garage I think we're thinking the same here. A more efficient chamber needs less timing. I'd still play with it a little.

    Hey man I meant to ask how the 410 gear is on the street? Realistically is too much for 65 mph or so on highway? I drive scamp around 3200 to 3500 and never have sweated it. But I'm also doing 70 75mph. Just wonder if I should have went for the 391s...currently car goes through traps in the 1/4 around 5500 to 5600rpm...shift at 6000rpm..so it acts like it sure could use alittle more gear then a 355...anyways thanks man
