- You can go to the race track and notice that some cars just run better than others. This would be that example. A very respectable small block mopar stroker engine with no frills. Not even in race car trim! This car belongs to my buddy, Ross @RT211Racing.
He may be the first in the #noname500 for the 2024 #nonamenationals. Thank goodness it’s in a legit #mopar small block bracket car.

Thanks so much Joe!! Super appreciate it...I wish the car looked as good in person as it does on video! 😂
I went over and subscribed. Very sweet car.
💪🏼
Mopars to the Front!!
It’s a heck of a combo!
What a beaut. I had a '74, same R5 red, no vinyl roof. It was originally a 318 3 spd A-230, 3.23 open axle. I put a '69 340 in it, with a 4 speed from another 74 E body, and a 4.10 chunk from an old D-100 in it. The 340 was well built with a real measured 10.7 CR, J heads ported by me and with some AMC 2" 30 degree seat intake valves, and one of the DC purple shaft cams IIRC the hottest hydraulic one, which was still relatively mild. Holley 4175 carb, a double pumper spread-bore 800 CFM and holley street dominator manifold. The car had a flat hood and plain turn down dual exhaust with some generic headers. It had power steering and manual brakes, so I had no issues with vacuum for PB. That was one FAST E body (for the times, anyway), and so much fun as it had great torque and pulled really hard with the 4.10s. We were between drag strips in Edmonton, so I never raced it. But I reckon with some drag radials, it would have been a 12.50ish car. I daily drove it for two summers. A bit harsh on fuel costs but a great, great car.
Very cool! I love seeing original combinations like this and that!
@JustMoparJoe Me too, always have. As soon as I saw Ross's car, I was instantly reminded of my '74 Challenger. The more I heard, the more my opinion was reinforced. I think that there is a sweet spot for cars like this. I reckon that the biggest changes between the mid '80s (when I had the Challenger) and now are, in order of effect: 1) Aluminum heads with much better flow out of the box, 2) Readily available stroker kits, 3) hydraulic roller valve trains. Aluminum heads didn't exist then, strokers were not practical if you didn't have a pro stock budget, and there were mechanical roller cams, but the budget comment would also apply. The roller cams were pretty much race only, too. On the other hand, the raw material -the cars themselves were readily available and cheap to buy, and not usually rusty.
I love my current Challenger (2013), but there is something timeless about the A, B, and E bodies. They are classics for a reason.
I am laying the groundwork for one last build. I don't know yet which Mopar (A,B or E) it will be based on, but I guarantee it will not be a concours trailer queen. It will no doubt be similar to Ross's car in philosophy, with all of my 40 years of hot rodding experience poured into it. I can't wait.
575 torque?!?!? Holy Crap!
That would be well over 650 at the crank. That thing would be unreal on the street.
He finally cracked 6’s end of last year! Check out his channel in the description of this video
His car is very impressive Joe! Seems like he has a winning combination. Sounds great too!
Thanks brother! He’s got it gong on
I love that little trim down the side...
It adds some pop!
He has almost the same setup I had in my Demon, same compression (dish) and 259/263*@.050" Ultradyne .590" solid FT, 3500 PTC 904, 3.91 gears and 27" slicks, Eddy heads OOTB and it went 7.0s @96mph. He's rocking that E-body, especially with ported iron J-heads!! LOVE IT!! #moparstothefront #moparpeoplerock
For sure! Thanks Rod
Very solid combo. I was taking notes. I have a new goal now, fastest factory headed Mopar on RUclips, lol.
Seriously cool car.
Haha! I was thinking of you when I typed that! Had to throw in that pound for pound deal. Hope to see y’all both at nnn 24’
Not even close to 6.20
It takes a Mopar to catch a Mopar. 😉
He didn’t catch me! But I’ve got a few inches on him 😂
The torque on that thing is amazing!
For sure! He said he’s shifting at 6,000. Won’t run any faster otherwise
Nice car Joe.
Very impressive car.
I always liked the J Heads and X Heads.
They can work.
Stock heads are hiding the potential! Thanks Ed!
Pretty cool. Did he say who ported the heads? On a side note; there’s a place in Kansas Ohio called KG Engines, that has a CNC porting service for stock iron heads, about $850 for the CNC work (if you don’t need other work done, though he does all cylinder head work too). If you’re a guy that likes the idea of having ‘stock’ heads, pretty reasonable I think.
Thanks for sharing! Please comment on his channel and ask. Ross is a good guy and likes to help
@@moparsareeverything1980 Thanks, KG Engines
It's running hard !!!!! 👍
Sweet rig for sure!
I love combos like that! Btw i had a Racer Brown Cam in my 340 back in the day... Awesome ride
Thanks Andy!
Racer Brown Cams. Jim Dow knows his Mopars!
Track proven 👍🏼
You are right! Very nice.
Thank you! Cheers!
It's like what we would do in the day mostly stock stuff except for what you can't see on the inside.
The inside matters!
That’s a total package for sure. Just the right stuff to do the job. Probably proof that one thing on a combo can really slow you down.
I was looking for the race car parts! That things sounds mean
A cool car , a good bracket car 🍻
Absolutely! Thanks for checking it out!
Awesome torque numbers
Very stout
Nice solid combination.
Absolutely! This thing is now faster than my barracuda was when it was a 408. I’m not scared to admit that 😂
I knew it was fast as soon as you said it has a B BODY rear axel. Just subbed to him.
😂
Racer Brown. Had in my GTX a loooong time ago. Ruled the local streets.
That’s old school cool
I had a 72 Challenger many years ago. Mine had a 318 with a few small mods. I was running 13 flat with it. I lost it along with my first wife not long after I got it done. She enjoyed it for several years after. I love the e bodies. Most are out of my price range anymore. That one is a real nice one. It runs well too. If he's going to run it at the track much I would put some frame stiffeners on it. It looked like it has a bit of twist to it.
Thanks Mike!
Great car! Your pal has a nice setup and he’s getting amazing results. Well done!
For sure! He just made another personal best and shucked the ring gear on the last passes!
Cool!👍
We like it!
Subscribed and following. Awesome looking car
She’s a runner! And he’s a racer! He runs points and does pretty well.
Beautiful car, I subscribed. Joe looks like you might need a little more tire under that car of yours
Yes sir. I’ve got the space with it being back halved and tubbed.
He's got that thing lined out. And it's very pretty also. That's the best hood for a Challenger. I'm going to give him a sub just to try to get him to 500.
Awesome! Thank you! Send that to our challenger buddy.
That’s awesome.
Love the E bodies. But man it’s moving.
That car looks good and ran good, your car was definitely hooking on that track. It jumped off the line.
Thanks Jeff! It actually surprised me and I short shifted for that 6.40 😂. Watch the nose drop
That's a nice car.
For sure! He made it on down to Newport and will be back
Nice lookin car!
I think so too!
Thank Joe....That's a very nice car
Thanks for the support!
There is always going to be some naysayers in a group. Can't argue the performance is great ! Especially for some 'potentially' mismatched parts. Could it do better? Maybe, but it could go the wrong way also. Beautiful car.
Thank you for picking up on that. I see the naysayers doing their thing and not running fast!
Very good and well built car!
For sure! You know what it takes to move like that. Many facets!
Great car. Very well done video, brother.
Thanks brother!
@@JustMoparJoe my pleasure.
MOPAR Heaven 👍🏻💯🇦🇺⛽️
Thanks brother! She’s a looker
Beautiful car ! I wish I had a red Mopar
Haha! With a stroker smallblock
I like red Mopars . I also have an old 360 somewhere . Maybe I can get it running something like that , just slower ! I did subscribe and have watched a few of his videos . He’s doing good
Thanks brother!
I'll echo the thoughts of a pretty impressive combo. And a torque monster! But it's gotta be to move all 3800 lbs! Definitely a well thought out combo.
For sure! He’s working on 500 subs to make it next year!
Wish I had a '73 Challenger that ran like that
It’s awesome
Definitely impressive! Sweet Challenger!
For sure. The car speaks for itself. Check out his channel if you can.
@@JustMoparJoe just subbed his channel and yeah that thing is unreal, I would have never thought a Challenger with iron heads and 3.91’s/ 28” tire would run like that, freakin impressive.
AND that purple Barracuda ain’t no joke either!
@@smokewrenchgarage5420 haha! Thanks brother
Dont need a roll bar until he breaks 11.50 on 1/4 mile drag track... I wouldnt put one in if its a daily driver/cruiser.
1/8 mile 7.35 is cut off for roll bar, when I run at tracks where they enforce that rule I have to slow it down. As far as 1/4 mile goes if it's super hot and crap air I can run 11.50 with no problem, but when it's cool and air is good it'll run quicker than that,so just depends on air quality and air temp on how I havta run it....add weight,or shift lower or retard timing etc.whichever works easiest lol
Out of everything in this vid, my head is stuck on that wheelie 6:05
Haha! Thanks for noticing! I got surprised when it pulled like that. I short shifted at 5,500 and stayed in it. 6.40 not bad!
@@JustMoparJoe Ive watched you take this car a long way so I know what that wheelie means for you and that car. Especially if you're determined to keep that size tire. Way to go brother! ....and I wish you all the luck in the world :)
I have a small roll bar that was in dad's Cuda for years . Fits right in through the door. 4 point I think. Just seen it in top of garage today.
I’ll tell him. This thing even has the radio inside lol
Thanks,im just not sure that I want to put a roll bar in it,I dont think I'm going to at this time tho
@JustMoparJoe Lol, it doesn't have radio in it,that's where my AFR gauge is mounted,I've got a block off plate in there with the gauge mounted in it.
@@RT211Racing my bad 😂
@@JustMoparJoe I wouldn't be able to hear it anyway 🤣
cool video its close to the same setup as my 408 he has a bit more dir than mine but mine has a bit more lift if he gets to NNN24 maybe me and him can race my truck is about 200lbs lighter too
He just made 500 subs and I guarantee he will be there! Let’s see a good race 👍🏼
So you're saying the "stock" heads are not "stock" heads? OK, got it! lol
If it were my car, I'd leave everything as stock as can be. Why destroy a nice old car with a roll bar or cage, there are plenty of cars out there that are already tore up you can do that to if you wanna go really fast, keep this one nice and clean, it's sweet as is!
a friend of mine has a73 dart with 360 and 3.55 gears run 7.30s 1/8 mile
I always like A bodies for race cars. Shorter wheel base and much lighter than the B/E bodies
Never underestimate the power of a 340. Even if it’s stroked. I have a 340 70 Challenger. 30 over 340. Built with good parts. Using J heads mild port and polish. 727 with 2800 stall converter. Just a street car. But I would also say never underestimate the power of a 440. Even if it’s over 500 cid. I also have a 440-6 GTX with a 30 over 440. Warmed over and 2800 stall 727. Just a street car. You guys have the strip covered. I will cover the streets. Go team MOPAR😂
Thanks Randy!
Sounds like your car ran a640, what was your 60-foot time by the way and that was on motor only right?
Yes sir. With the 750 AED! Watch the video closely and you can see that it surprised me and I short shifted it about 5,500. 1.35 60’ 🫡
That is a very Stout 60 ft time! My best non
What rpm does he shift at
He told me 6,000. That shifting above or below didn’t gain any time
Id like to hear of 318/5.2's that are getting 400-500+hp
It’s possible, but most guys do it easy and use a turbo. I’d like to do one max effort someday, but need good heads to make it happen
@JustMoparJoe
I got a pair of EQ heads that I bought years ago.
I didn't think they would've stopped making them with all the good reviews and reliability!
Odessa cylinder heads in Clearwater Florida is where I got mine.
3800lbs..?? You guys better scale that for the next video.
That was with the red metal hood and driver in car. Thanks JC
Right now the car weighs 3,635 lbs with me in the car,it did weigh 3,809 lbs with me in it before.
@@RT211Racing Man that's heavy for that car. My buddy had a 73 340 barracuda with 6 point in it 3185 with him in it (160lbs). Steel hood also no power steering tho.
@jcnewbee8124 Well I'm a big fat guy too lol. The car itself weighs 3,380,it used to weigh 3525,but I put manual steering on it and put the fiberglass hood on it,the car ran 7.30's when it weighed 3,800 with me in it. I dont have roll bar,but its full interior And full exhaust.
@@RT211Racing Oh I was wrong ...that was no driver weight it was 3350ish
Joe is it faster than your cuda
No sir. But the way it sits now, it is faster than my cuda when it was a 408. I had a 6.40 pass in this video
Let's get @RT211 500+ subscribers!
For sure!
Well shit Joe we run 6.80s with iron heads on pump gas at 3560lvs
I keep checking your channel for video proof, but there isn’t anything there🤷🏻♂️
