  • While working on a friend's Plymouth Fury 3, I discovered a superb upgrade to the stock Mopar distributor. This unit from Firecore performance is the best upgraded aftermarket distributor for an old mopar. It's also a great option upgrade your old points distributor to electronic ignition.

    Hello, Mopar Joe, thanks a ton for your awesome review!! As you can see, we upped the discount to 10% off, when mentioning the Mopar Joe Discount!! You must call to get it.. We also have a taller mechanical version, that plugs directly into the MSD box. Also, we have a conversion pigtail, that converts the Mopar plug end, to the MSD pigtail. Also, we will be sending MOPAR Joe a conversion cap. We are the only manufacturer making a male terminal cap, for the Mopar Electronic Ignition Distributor. Looking forward to reading reviews, and Mopar Joes excellent tips and Mopar knowledge on his channel!!

    • @JustMoparJoe
      @JustMoparJoe  2 месяца назад +1

      Setting a timing table is an old idea. I can do the same thing with my digital MSD box on my challenger, except that engine uses the crank and cam sensors to monitor the timing. I’ve got a digital box to go on my purple car as well. In that case, you lock the distributor and let the ecu control where the timing goes. I like the adjustment, but as they say, “with great power comes great responsibility.” Many people don’t know enough about ignition timing to adjust their curves like that. This distributor is the quick and easy solution to the old worn out stuff. And gives you quick reliability. I know people who have old Mopar’s and use a flip phone! I think they like simple and effective. I will definitely try the progressive someday and get some videos about it.

Initial timing, mechanical, all in and vacume can all be tweaked from the drivers seat. Once I find the sweet spot, I can recurve my distributor to match. I had to take a look back at every comment you’ve ever left me. None of them show any kind of support for what I’m doing. EVERY one of your comments has been contrary to any decision I’ve made, then ended with a put down. Look at the above comment. “Good for a person that hasn’t done this 40 years, I guess.” The old distributor I held up was locked out by my dad. It worked fine. But his limited mindset wouldn’t allow him to have nice things that last. I own two welders. I own and sell FBO plates. I don’t have the time to dig out an old junk distributor, clean it up, replace the magnetic pickup, trust that the old bushings are good, install a plate or weld it, put it in the car and realize that it’s too high of an initial advance and the starter drags. Then have to pull it back out, file the “welded” slots, then reinstall everything. There’s 6+ hours of work that I could have been making money instead of trying to use old junk. It’s not fair to my customer to charge him for all the hours. Don’t waste your money, but I’m not wasting anyone else’s.

    I think I was checking these guys out a few years back but had passed them up because nobody I knew had used their products. Iirc these have a billet housing and such, they definitely went the extra mile. These dizzys are just superior engineering to our factory ones, sorry Ma. If I can ever get some cash put together Im thinking about having a go at that Firecore unit. All I know for certain is the next distributor, and/or parts, I buy WILL NEVER be another refurbished/reman job from a parts store. They are complete junk knockoffs from dorman aka china.
    Every single old mopar I have ever had has had that factory vac advance module yoinked and swapped for a tunable one. Just a 1/16" or 3/32" allen wrench into the hose nipple, turn left or right until happy. I even made a cheap "testing tool" for bench (or in car) tuning using some vacuum hose and a 100cc irrigation syringe from a vet.

      I’m glad to say that I’m gaining more experience with each of them. My 400 was on the dyno with the DUI distributor that had coil and hei module made in. It worked great. It was a massive unit that most mopar guys would hate. The FireCore is a nice drop in that could replace the current distributor in your mopar. It uses a magnetic pickup similar to an msd. Both units would require a good ecu to power them. The hei may be the least expensive choice but takes some external wiring and kills the originality when you open the hood. I’d say choose what’s best for your price point. Some guys would jump straight to an msd and plug it all and go. This distributor company makes an easy adapter to convert the mopar plug to the msd harness. My race car is locked out, with a feature in the ecu that pulls 10 degrees for the start up.
