Most regions come without the RTX4080 option at all, neither do they get the screens or touchpads, nor the top CPUs, nor the combination of promised components. I guess people at Asus realised that if they release Strix G16/G18 with the same components as Scar 16/18, the sales of the latter will dwindle or plummet... so they limited Strix G16/G18 to the mediocre or mid-level components, and yet still had the audacity to keep the "up to" promised specs still present on the product page due to one or two regions actually getting those in limited numbers... and still, the pricing on these remains pretty high for those subpar choices that barely make a difference against last gen Strix units with higher (or same) "grade" components of previous gen.

On the question about laptop speakers. Before I bought my 2021 Asus Zephyrus G15, I didn’t care about laptop speakers. My 2021 Asus G14 had bad soldering all over it to the point where the local distributor thought that I tried to redo the Liquid Metal and spilled it all over the MB thus voiding the warranty, only the 2021 model didn’t have Liquid Metal in it! Had to escalate the entire thing through Asus management to get a MB replacement as a factory defect. The local distributor then tried to pin it as water damage. Worst quality control ever. Had HP Omen laptops for years, yes they overheating but never had quality issues.

Hello! I need your opinion! In my country the rog strix g15 advantage edition with ryzen 9 and 6800M grafic has the same price as rtx 3060 lenovo legion 12 gen. I would like to know which one would you buy?
One thing just wanted to point out about this and your previous laptop reviews about maximum memory support limited to 32GB. That is not true in any of the modern laptops and it supports as much as possible supported by that CPU and available memory slots. That 32GB number you see is the maximum the manufacturers offer for that laptop model, not the absolute limit. This Laptop and plenty of other laptops reviewed in your channel, with 32GB max, have been upgraded with 64GB without any issues. Lenovo now even in their Psref (Product Reference Page), started mentioning the term "XY GB maximum Ram offering" instead of "XY GB Maximum Supported". At least for last 10 years, no laptop manufacturers are known to artificially limiting the maximum ram capacity below what is supported by the Processor, if it has the Ram slots for the expansion.
@@elarrieux_ I have the G614JV, which has a maximum RAM of 32GB listed on ASUS's website, but it's been running fine with 64GB for about a year (Kingston Fury Impact - the RAM itself failed once, but Kingston replaced it without issue).

Odd you mention the speakers not being very good. I've found the 2 speakers on my older Strix G15 to be really good for media, especially after tweaking the included Dolby Access software. They're actually the best laptop speakers I've ever had in a machine after tuning. Ah well, my current one still runs great so I have no need to upgrade.
@HardwareCanucks you said you 'feel there are a better options for the same price' but i'm quiet puzzled to find one, do you have a video or maybe you can navigate to some 'other' options? thank you.
Hi. I get confused with two laptops. One this ( Rog G16 With RTX 4060 115 watts) and one MSI B12VGK with 12650H and RTX 4070 105 watts. Which one more powerful than others ? And more future proof atleast for 5 years all games. Thanks
While gaming and producing music for film I use an external audio interface and studio monitors/headphones. If I am ever just using it for streaming music or video I'm usually in a scenario where headphones would be needed anyway, so no, internal speakers have never mattered much at all. I used to have a Macbook Pro with amazing built in speakers, but even then it was nothing more than a slight convenience on the off chance I wanted to show someone a cool/funny video real quick or something.
I need your expertise please on my selection of a gaming laptop that is a better buy for me than the ASUS ROG Strix G16 around the same pricing. I need more options. Is MSI in the running? I really appreciate your presentation and skill in presenting options for a great gaming laptop. Thank you for helping me in my decision making.
Speakers are not a big deal for me. I always use separate high rest head set. Laptop speakers cannot reproduce the same effects. You have to be able able to tell what directions sounds come from for FPS games. All that said. I use a MBP for non-gaming tasks and it is amazing how they get so much sound form a laptop.

Personally, to me, speakers are important on a laptop. I travel a lot I don’t always wanna wear gaming headsets or maybe they’re not charged I just wanna game or listen to some music., watch some RUclips videos on downtime I like the choice of 1200p, I think they get a good height frame rate. It works out great with the 4070.
7:15 Lets put it like this, a great speaker system is what would make me buy a $2100 over a $2000, additionally it is something I would expect for the highest end laptops of which the strix and scar series apply
I bought 2 different MSI gaming laptop it had the same display issue and the stores were saying "oh that's totally fine, it will not cause any sort of issue".

Great review as always, I do also agree that it is a bit of an odd ball when it comes to its specs. I would have preferred that they used a bit of a lower end CPU and pumped a bit more wattage into that 4070, but overall, it's still a good machine. It's a shame that they couldn't put their Nebula 500 nit display in this, but after seeing your benchmarks, I can see why they put the 1200p display into it. I'm also a bit disappointed that they're not using a full metal construction with it, and with the Scar 16, I am extremely disappointed that they didn't, but it's at least built well so it's not the end of the world. What I absolutely can't accept is that they have only a 720p webcam without any sort of biometrics. I am going to be upgrading to the Scar 16 from my Flow X13, and I will for sure absolutely miss the fingerprint sensor on it, and not to mention, I'll be missing out on Windows Hello IR. Once again, fantastic review, keep up the great work! Edit: It seems like after checking the product page for the Strix G16, they do have a model with the Nebula QHD display, but they also have a 4050 model with the Nebula QHD display too???? I am extremely confused with Asus' thought process for these specs.
I do care about built-in laptop speakers. Shuffling between 2020 Blade Pro 17, 2020 GSS Stealth, 2021 Scar 17, 2021 M16 and 2021 Legion 7, and I really like the speakers on most of them. Yes even the Stealth, had to do a lot of tuning in Nahimic. Strix G16... always preferred the Strix Scar series, but to each his own. Nice that you pointed out flaws in this year's model. Really starting to think that my 2020-21 models are still good for 2023.
@@o.t9358 Of the speakers or the unit in general? For me personally, the Scar 17 for all-around, the Stealth is for jobsite-use and the M16 is for travel. The Blade and Legion are for gaming.

same exact thing happened to me last week with a brand new Zephyrus g16, not even 2 days after purchasing it, since day one I was experiencing weird behaviors such as laptop not powering on without being plugged in power and them just after updating windows and getting the pc setup it died and got me a blue screen of death wiping EVERYTHING from the ssd, even the Win OS. Returned right away and now I'm suffering from insomnia trying to decide to give another shot with Zephyrus (m16 this time) or try the strix. Can't decide over sleek design and professional modern look with less gaming power (Zephyrus i9-13900H, RTX 4070) or the gamerish rgb fan boi look of the strix. I just hate that every laptop has to be in this fckd design, so few options to get a nice looking sleek design chassi.

My work laptop is a HP that also support USB PD up to 100W, but what I found is, that the laptop does not accept any power from a standard 60 or 65W type-c charger unless it is turned off. Is this behavior common? I mean I understand that 65w is not enough when you load the GPU, but when you are on desktop it is more than enough.
I have come to care about the speakers. When I bust out my legion 5 pro in a pinch to watch a show with my wife, it’s always disappointingly bad compared to her intel 16” MBP, so now I wish it was better, because the display is really good!

I'm interested too, did yours come from the factory, or did you have problems over time? Mine has almost 0 backlight bleed
@@monsG165 Oh. I'll keep an eye out for that. Mine seems to be a good unit I went to this from like a 2015 ROG laptop with a GTX 760, & it still runs fine, just not very powerful. I did get my g14 from Best Buy so i got the extra coverage at least.
I have seen ips backlight bleed in all kins of laptops with ips monitor, i had an acer which was terrible, asus as well, and right now i have a razer blade 2022 which is the best yet, it has a slighty light bleed on the left bottom corner.
Before that I had a Razer Blade 15 2021 which was a dream, no bleed at all, unbelievable!
Effective thumbnail, simple yet striking. 🤩
What PC do you recommend that are great buys or where the videos on it
Yes. Personally, I don't use my headphones 100% of the time. So a good built-in speaker setup would be great!
same
Thanks for the video. Possibly the best unboxing intro ever 😍 Thanks for the honest final thoughts! Stay well and hydrated!
do u recommended this or ROG Flow Z13 Rtx 4050 ?
i hope u reply
Great review, thanks🔥
How does the 2024 edition compare to this and would you recommend this or the Predator Neo 16?
The devices available in my country are slightly limited.
The G16 that is available is the 2024 with the I9 14900HX and RTX 4060 with the QHD 240hz display.
The Neo 16 has the I9 13900HX and also RTX4060 with a 165HZ IPS display.
The Asus is slightly more expensive, but they are similarly priced
Im going to upgrade mine to 64gb next. It's this exact model & we will see..
@@JD-AlphaMedia were you able to do it?
@@elarrieux_ I have the G614JV, which has a maximum RAM of 32GB listed on ASUS's website, but it's been running fine with 64GB for about a year (Kingston Fury Impact - the RAM itself failed once, but Kingston replaced it without issue).
Hello! I am confused between this and acer predator helios 16, i9, 4070 which is currently on sale foe $1649. Which one would you recommend out of the two? I would really appreciate your help. Thanks!
Good review! I love my G16. The magic glowing number pad came with mine. So odd that yours doesn’t. I love the power and I’m ok that it is bulky.
what about the backlight bleed?
@@soulaimanebougraou2363 I have had no issues. I can try to look for more issues now that you ask but I have not noticed.
mine didn't come with the glowing number pad
Whats the better options ? thank you
I’ll take extra thickness for better laptop cooling and noise levels. My last laptop has a 10875h 2070S and a 144hz 1080p gsync display. I thought i would use a gaming laptop more than I actually do i wish I would gotten a 17in a 15in just fills too small. Im used to gaming on a 43in oled and a 3440x1440 ultrawide. Im waiting to get asus new handheld as long as they can hit the right price $700 or less would be nice. I like my steam deck but it’s starting to struggle on some new aaa games.
Thans alot❤ The review and specially the background decoration was great❤
At the end of the video you say that there are others around this price range that you recommend more. Can you list which ones? Thanks
So what laptop do you recommend on that price point?
thinking about getting this for college, looking for something that would suit my college needs and gaming needs. hows the battery life when just searching the web or doing basic school work?

Odd you mention the speakers not being very good. I've found the 2 speakers on my older Strix G15 to be really good for media, especially after tweaking the included Dolby Access software. They're actually the best laptop speakers I've ever had in a machine after tuning.
Ah well, my current one still runs great so I have no need to upgrade.
What model do you have?
The mini led on my 2023 titan gt77 is def nice if youre on the laptop display all day
@HardwareCanucks you said you 'feel there are a better options for the same price' but i'm quiet puzzled to find one, do you have a video or maybe you can navigate to some 'other' options? thank you.
for instance, i've settled with lenovo legion pro 5 gen 8 (r9 7945hx, 4070 8gb, 32gb ddr5) laptop. seems the best option price/build quality
Hi. I get confused with two laptops. One this ( Rog G16 With RTX 4060 115 watts) and one MSI B12VGK with 12650H and RTX 4070 105 watts. Which one more powerful than others ? And more future proof atleast for 5 years all games. Thanks
Would you say this laptop is good for content creation with the 1-9 and 4070 rtx?
Is this a good laptop to play world of warcraft and final fantasy 14 please advise me
Can you share the better alternatives form this price range?
Is this a great laptop to use corel studios on for making videos?
Is the backlight bleed issue a common one in 165hz pannel, or did he just get unlucky with the review product?
Speakers are not a big deal for me. I always use separate high rest head set. Laptop speakers cannot reproduce the same effects. You have to be able able to tell what directions sounds come from for FPS games. All that said. I use a MBP for non-gaming tasks and it is amazing how they get so much sound form a laptop.
I'm stuck between lenovo legion pro 7i and rog strix g18 4080 I like the g18 more bcoz the 18" display its game changer for me but I'm afraid of coil whine and pixel bleeding please let me know which one you suggest me from your experience with g18
Are the Zeyphrus G14 4070/4090 and Stealth 16 Studio reviews coming next?
Personally, to me, speakers are important on a laptop. I travel a lot I don’t always wanna wear gaming headsets or maybe they’re not charged I just wanna game or listen to some music., watch some RUclips videos on downtime
I like the choice of 1200p, I think they get a good height frame rate. It works out great with the 4070.
What are the other better options out there for around 2200$ ?
Hi so I have a 4k LG Monitor would this laptop not be any good for that ?
What are the better options
Ths intro is pretty awesome 💥
Please mention some cons or dealbreakers of scar 16 4080, I'm planning to buy it next week thank you ❤️
Would you recommend de 4060 i7 version of this laptop or a zephyrus g14 (2022) with the ryzen 9 and xt6700s?
G14 is too small and thermal limited
7:15 Lets put it like this, a great speaker system is what would make me buy a $2100 over a $2000, additionally it is something I would expect for the highest end laptops of which the strix and scar series apply
I bought 2 different MSI gaming laptop it had the same display issue and the stores were saying "oh that's totally fine, it will not cause any sort of issue".
Why do I see this video after I buy this pc??
How is it?
Bought g18 and it’s awesome 😊
Any trouble so far?
@@mothemonster9454 no troubles, very satisfied. Only one issue: in the new G814 model, compared to my previous G712, the keyboard buttons are higher, which sometimes allows pistachio shells (soft part) to get stuck in the gap.
Having owned a 2019 15" Zephyrus laptop for 3+ years (i7 9750H, 16GB, 2060-90w), I dont understand why there are so few ports, especially on the right side with 2 USB-A. (Mine has 2 USB A and a USB-C.
There hasnt been a compelling value driven laptop in quite some time...
Thank you for your great reviews! Could you please recommend a laptop for architecture. I´d like it to be powerful but still somwhere between 1500 - 1800 Dollars. I would appreciate it very much!!
For gaming i7 and 4060 is alright. Although pricing is debatable but Strix isn't really getting much flagship features anyways. Maybe if they stuck at least a QHD 165hz display it'd be worth it.
yes i care about builtin speakers. using headphones 24/7 on a laptop isn't healthy or practical.
whats ur recommendation with something that would be good for Diablo 4 / WoW and has no RGB? My budget is $2k.
well i wanna buy the i7 13650hx 4070 version, and im gonna use it for autocad, solidworks and csgo and nba2k is this good for that, and for the same price is there anything better?
BRO I THINK THE RTX 4070 VARIANT HAS ROG NEBULA DISPLAY I THINK IT DOESNT HAVE THE BACKLIGHTING ISSUE WHATS UR THOUGHTS
What laptop would you recommend for fps at this price range?
I am extremely confused with Asus' thought process for these specs.
its marketed as a 140watts a gpu.
I think nvidia is the one limiting it and not asus
@@ibm5155 Right, I forgot that they limited the 4070 to 140 watts with dynamic boost, I confused it with the 4080 specs. That's just frustrating...
I came for the review but stayed for the beautiful backgrounds!😍
I do care about built-in laptop speakers. Shuffling between 2020 Blade Pro 17, 2020 GSS Stealth, 2021 Scar 17, 2021 M16 and 2021 Legion 7, and I really like the speakers on most of them. Yes even the Stealth, had to do a lot of tuning in Nahimic.
Strix G16... always preferred the Strix Scar series, but to each his own. Nice that you pointed out flaws in this year's model. Really starting to think that my 2020-21 models are still good for 2023.
Which would you saw is the overall best out of all these, especially with emphasis on efficiency and performance
@@o.t9358 Of the speakers or the unit in general? For me personally, the Scar 17 for all-around, the Stealth is for jobsite-use and the M16 is for travel. The Blade and Legion are for gaming.
Strix g16 or zephyrus g16
Among the rtx 4060 variants which one should i get
I enjoyed the review but you should have reviewed the RTX 4060 model with the i7 instead.
Did you make the song at 12: minutes in the video?
Zephyrus g16 or strix g16
Which one should i get guys among the rtx 4060 variants
If possible pls review the asus tuf a16 . The last tuf laptop u reviewed was a long time ago
Impressed you actually got to play games on it to test it. Mine arrived and after I installed Windows it crashed and wouldn't detect the SSD. Needless to say it got sent back and I got another brand.
same exact thing happened to me last week with a brand new Zephyrus g16, not even 2 days after purchasing it, since day one I was experiencing weird behaviors such as laptop not powering on without being plugged in power and them just after updating windows and getting the pc setup it died and got me a blue screen of death wiping EVERYTHING from the ssd, even the Win OS.
I just hate that every laptop has to be in this fckd design, so few options to get a nice looking sleek design chassi.
is the new msi stealth any good ?
Could you guys do a zephyrus g16 and a predator helios 16 next? They seem really great devices and pretty value for money.
Will you be buying it? Please reply to me, dude!,
@@TheFunnyDictator I bought the G16: i9, 4070, QHD 16:10 240 hz, 500 nits. Cost me 2600 euro (the Netherlands). Honestly great laptop so far. Battery can go 8-9 hrs on youtube using eco-mode.
Can play any game at ultra settings still easily getting 80+ fps without heating too much. (CPU 85C GPU80C)
The screen is the sickest thing about it honestly.
I bought a 2023 Blade 18. Speakers were one of the reasons.
Lovely video, sir. Very informative and to the point. Thank you
Almost bought this today, thank goodness I saw this review
I was very close to buying the ROG Strix 18, but I think i'm going to wait for the 14th gen Meteor Lake laptops which are supposed to come out in December.
Hope you do a review asus rog strix scar 16
Anyone know if the backlight bleed issues are also present on the QHD+ screen?
should i get a g16 with fhd+ 165 hz 250 nit, rtx4080, i7 13650hx, 16 gb ram 4800 or a g18 with qhd+ 240 hz 500 nit, i9 13980hx, rtx 4070, 16 gb ram 4800.
Atleast speakers are really easy to improve with headphones or speakers...if the display is bad the entire laptop suffers
@@samgoff5289 2000 dollar speaker need to be good
@Hardware Canucks A guy in best buy review said the Rog Strix G18 with RTX 4080 an Intel i9 13980HX can have a storage of 64GB. He said he used two 32gig DDR5 4800MHz sticks from Crucial and said it worked fine. Some other models from other countries also have 64GB support.
G614JV (i5-13450HX/4060) works fine for me with 64GB RAM (Kingston Fury Impact 5600MT/s - it only runs at 4800MT/s, but the 5600MT/s kit was cheaper when I purchased it).
I have the Scar 16 with the HDR display, it's beautiful
It should have uhd option at these prices.
@Onur K yep. Its effed up.
Thank you for your reviewing. As always you guys are one of the best tech reviewers on RUclips.
Indeed i care a lot about built-in speakers. I find myself gaming + content consuming 95% on speakers.
I'd even sacrifice performance if it can be exchanged for amazing speakers (e.g. Mac speakers)
When I turn on a laptop, the keyboard and the bottom light bar turn red. Do you know how to turn this off?
Built in speakers still matter for music while working and video calls. I only wear the headset to game.
Thanks for mention the blacklight bleed
Please do one for the Zepyhrus G16!
What song is it wheb your runnings the gaming bench marks?
the screen issue also happens on 18"?
But would a higher CPU prossesor use more (Electricity Bills). More Power, More Money ?. I am still using my ROG Asus Strix from 2021 with a 6Core AMD 5000 Series 6Core and RTX 3050TI, Still holding strong till this day with all the heavy loaded E-Sports games and College work.
I went the 4060 coz I saw that 4070 not big diff. Problem is that I use 2-3 4K monitor for work … would this be ok? I have a desktop now rtx 3080 and is barely holding up…
I predicted Zen4 mobile being very efficient & support fast but 7945hx blows my expectations even more. 🤯
Now i just want to see 7x45hx & 7x40hs chips in a well engineered body instead of the poor one's like scar 17

Good review, honestly, I Love my G16, I have the Nebula 240hz display and it's amazing paired with the 4070. I have a main gaming pc for when I am at home, I use this for work and gaming when I am away. so, for that it's been flawless.
What is the best gaming laptop which can also be used for editing etc for £1500 max ?
Is it safe to buy the G16 now? Cuz I need it for studying, gaming, and whatever else i wanna do on it
Do u bought it if u please give me the feedback
I was going to buy it tomorrow, but your comments terrified me. What device has the same specifications and is better than this misleading company?
I got the msi raider ge78 instead , because Im reading a lot of bad reviews for the screen . Very happy with my purchase
Please any advice on MSI CROSSHAIR 16 i7 13 gen. Rtx 4070
In the UK setup for per key light not working only zones or full. Got this with 4080. Little disappointed in this point.
Btw all NVIDIA had to do was put 10GB in the 4070 GPU and that would have made it extremely compelling. What extra would it have cost them surely?
