You should make a wall play tutorial for people in gold-plat. At those ranks people miss the ball all the time when it’s on the wall, or it slightly comes off the wall and people just don’t understand how to get a good touch. I know wall play is a weak point for me and a ton of people my rank, but im not sure what exactly I need to do to get better at it, as well as there aren’t many very good training backs for training this type of stuff that I was able to find. And by wall play I mean hitting the ball off the wall, ariels off the wall, jumping off the wall and hitting the ball, and hitting the ball off the wall and following it for another touch or 2, like a lesser air dribble, etc. I’d love a video on this topic!
@dallin jonas go every day before you play ranked in training-mode. Go with the ball on the wall and try hitting the ball in different ways. If you do this continuously, you‘re improving ✌🏻
Just keep playing as well I’ve spent little time in training and mainly just go for stuff in game not being worried about missing or whatever because I know at least I’ll get better that’s how I’ve learned almost all my basics/fundamentals and now I’m at gc but I’m also insane sooo
Two types of air rolls... THANK YOU! Something clicked when you said that, I thought they were the same but done from two different controls, which was confusing to me, understinding the difference is huge. THanks Luke.
Really great content! Something I think people overlook about air roll is that there are more than 2-3 "adjustments". Each adjustment is based on the position of the car. (You can also see this by looking at the controller overlay) I think what would really be helpful @Spookluke is to go through an aerial and freeze frame during the adjustment process. Pause at the moments that you decided you needed to adjust, explain how you planned to adjust, and then what controls you used to get there. I think that would fill in those gaps and teach players more efficient air roll.
Duuuude I just learned how to do ground to air dribbles while holding air roll, because of the tornado spin tip you gave. Been trying for ages, and I can do aerials and rings maps etc decently with air roll left, but never got the air dribbles until now. Thank you so much! :D
I really think Kuxir twists are fantastic for beginners. It certainly helped me when learning air roll, it showed me just how little you need to do in an air roll adjustment to get the desired result. I feel like one of the most common mistakes when people want to learn air roll is that they really want to be air rolling the ENTIRE time. When I first started, I would only do one adjustment per air roll rotation at a time, learning all of the individual adjustments. After that, THEN I began to chain them together and learning all of the individual adjustments first made all the difference. Doing an air roll adjustment for just half of the rotation or even a quarter of the rotation is all you need sometimes.
The main takeaway for me is the usefulness of the tornado spin, I didn’t realize it was so important to help with direction and speed control. Huge tip for my practice, thanks !
Biggest thing I've learned here is that halfway through the air roll raises your car up in the air and a full air roll makes you go down. I used to air roll while using up and down direction controls (S and W in KB) and I always end up way off my target or just completely missing the ball. This will take a lot of practice but I have an understanding now 😁
19:43 as a diamond who can’t let go of the damn air roll button I really needed to hear this😂 I spend way too much time air rolling to look good and get some cool clips lol, I’ve done this ever since gold😂
These videos are incredibly helpful. I'm D3-C1 and I just about never mess with air roll. I do that minimal amount when I leave the wall to get my car right side up to dribble. But seeing how you explain air roll gets me excited to actually practice air rolling
This champ just got so much better at hitting the ball hard because of that plat tip. It made me realize how ez it can be to turn your wheels up and made me get better at flying upside down.
I’ve been using air-roll for single adjustments. I’m slowly getting the motion down for continuous rotation, but you can get a lot done with a good takeoff and a single adjustment.
@@TheFedernation Much better. It becomes muscle memory. I’m not air dribbling around the field with it, but I don’t have to think about it anymore. It just happens.
For me I air roll constantly as a gold. It’s not that I don’t know when I need to air roll, because tbh I don’t need to air roll until I need to make small adjustments when abt to hit the ball. But I air roll constantly so I can learn faster
Luke! Your videos are great . Only a matter of time until you blow up . You will be at 1 mil in no time . Production quality is insane and you have been the best at explaining mechanics . Your videos have been a game changer for me
One thing I've overlooked about Air Roll was the sensitivity settings in the options. I played with default for so long. Last week I changed it to 1.60 instead of the default 1.0 and it's been a serious gamechanger.
@@rokko_fable Thats normal as there is an adjustment period to get used to it but increasing your sensitivity has benefits too like getting up in the air quicker and moving your stick less. The NARLCS players average 1.77 sensitivity. Monkeymoon somehow uses 3.95 sensitivity while having perfect control and is considered the best player in the world right now.
Yo thanks for the video man I am diamond 1 and have been watching all of your videos from the speed flip tutorials, to the keybinds tutorial and I've been improving a ton.
I’m D2 currently, highest I’ve been is D3 Div 4 in 2s only (I don’t play anything else. I’ve been watching loads of air roll vids and then trying what I’ve seen in free play a bit. Although I know the theory I couldn’t seem to get it down. I seem to be able to make small adjustments but end up picking up speed and not being able to slow down. I learned to just doing full flips without boost to ‘reset’ where I am to recover in air and then carry on. Just started using air roll right in my shots to reduce recoil. I’ve been just doing that for months and only realised the other day (while trying to show my completely fresh friend the skill that is in game) that I can actually control the car quite well in the air now and have developed ’moves’ that help me do what I want to do. Upon realising this it must have given me a confidence boost or something but just realising that I can control the can has led to me pulling off some cracking shots. Still can’t just dribble in air but I’m getting very close. I’m finding I have trouble reading where the ball is going until it starts to drop ( which is too late) and find people regularly beat me to the ball. Do you have any tips for that ?
This video is exactly what I needed to watch. Been getting overly stressed lately because I've been trying to implement air roll to my games (have also been doing a ton of training) and even if car control does seem to be getting slightly better, it's been more annoying than rewarding, and I've been finding myself feeling that It doesn't really make sense to air-roll more than half the times, it was just like they said, I just got "trigger happy" and air-rolled at everything. Now I'll go back a little bit, I'll train basics a bit more, train what Virge said, be in the air, mess myself up and try to control it, and make myself as consistent as possible with normal aerials, which I do decently, but could be a LOT better. In conclusion, Thanks!
I started out two weeks ago with air roll left, went into speed rings 1 and turned bakkesmod game speed to 30% and used what i learned from yt to go left right up down. Can run it 100% and neon heights at 90% without letting go after like 3 hours
A thousand games in a year, Virge says? More like a thousand games this season for me! Probably why I climbed so rapidly, oh and you probably helped, too. Thanks for your great videos, Luke.
Virge had some great tips (as did Luke). As a diamond player, I'm still trying to get my air rolls under control, I can't wait to put their advice into practice

20:15 I see you're not using the right or left trigger buttons for going forward and backward. So my question is, what Are your control bindings set at in this video?
I dont know ANYONE who plays on kbm who uses regular air roll. Directional air roll is just less pointless. I only use regular when speedflipping, coz i have to press less buttons that way.
Hi spooke, FearTheNubTV here. I play with one hand on a custom controller I made. My hugest hurdle is I don't get to keep my thumb on my stick. It's more of a flicking the stick instead of constant pressure. This has made aerial and car control extremely hard. So I excelled at game sense (tm8 and opponent awareness, positioning, fake challenges, boost mgmt, etc) I have multiple times started in a low rank and have solo q through it on an average of 5-6 wins to 1 loss in 3s. In 2s its much harder. Ive been as high as c3 div 4 before epic.
Well, air rolling with stick for 5 years now. Practicing air roll left for 3 days and its working amazing in rings and controlling the car is also not that hard to pull off. But its pretty hard to fight against muscle memory in real games 😅
That was an awesome vid ! What you & virge said is so true , I'm GC 1 and i grinded all the way over there by soloQing. The first part is air rolling for recoveries and half flips ( gold - plat ) Then you can air roll to shot more accuratly ( diamond ) Then you can use air roll to adjust your car in the air more efficiently ( champ ) And finally you can full air roll to aerial & airdribble to make your shot unpredictable ( GC + ) I'm just a little bit disapointed that you don't have asked any KBM player :'( ( I'm a KBM player)
I am c2 ( I know, not that great ) and never really used air rolls, except to orient my car when falling and on wall aerial shots to be parallel to the ball.
On his channel he has his own guides which I find better than channels like Luke’s which kinda spam out a bunch of videos on mechanics you can’t really explain too easily but are flashy and people want to learn them quick but really just need hours put in to learn it virge is no BS another good channel for mechanics is thanovic and is 100 hours series very helpful
As a SSL who is at stage one this video is such a huge help with learning air roll. Been looking for this my whole life. I havent even gone home to try it out but, damn my understanding of the air roll mechanic just shot through the roof. +1 sub
You’re a ssl with no mechanics? Strictly positioning, rotation and accuracy/power on your shots and what not? Or do you air dribble and all that but without air roll
@@cdripn9958 just position and shots o basically cant do anything mechanical consistently enough. Like air dribbles and all that maybe like 2 in 10 ill get a good enough one but other than that big doo doo
@@cdripn9958 you would assume wrong lmaoooo. My flicks arent consistent at all or accurate most of the time. Im honestly mad dog which is rather surprising considering I hit the top 100 leaderboards at the end of last season. Dont gotta be good to be at the top
I think manual air roll is 100% needed... gc2 here, i use manual air roll for the small adjustments on recovering fast, angled shots/passes, everything else air roll right
I'd say my air roll mechanics are pretty well tuned even knowing I'm just a plat. I used to practice every day on the hour air rolling while flying around the field using all 3 air roll binds randomly, so I got a groove for it, my real issue is isn't control, it's a little more on refined coordination, like I can't maintain an air dribble while air rolling because my car drifts from the ball, but I can maintain an air dribble for about 13 seconds without air rolling.
I’m not tryna be like every other plat but I started to learn air Roll in silver cause I wanted to do airdribbles when I started so just like the go I just practice air dribbles and even tho ur tutorials are good I just find it fun
Just one thing I'm C1 and my air dribbles without spinning the entire time looks like gold one I can't do air dribble, or any air play without spinning the entire time ( except some times you know) Just to say that it's not a bad thing, you don't have to learn how to air dribble without spining the entire time first At least from my personal experience
A friend of mine has your same problem and it affects his gameplay a lot. In case you wanna "fix" this just go to freeplay and try to fly around the ball (use the midfield circle as a reference) with the bottom of your car always facing the ball. You'll learn how to control your car while making minor adjustments. The next step will be training packs. Start with the default ones (rookie, pro, ecc...) and when you can score those shots consistently move on to the harder custom packs. I'd recommend fixing that since it'll most likely affect your gameplay in the future as you move to higher ranks
gc1 here and same. basically as long as im up in the air ill hold that air roll left, ALWAYS. i dont think id be able to do even a simple aerial without air roll
What is the point of reference in your mind? To you continously observe the hood and control in relation to the hood or do you check which part of the car is in front and control it from there? I think this information could really help me train.
Bro that’s literally just you having to figure it out based on which one you have binded since the car is always spinning and where you need to go always changes you have to build muscle memory for it there’s no just “I know this does this so when my car is like this I move my joystick this way” it just has to be fluid and you have to develop it to a level where’s its muscle memory and you don’t have to think about it
I think the most important tip for learning air roll is the tornado spin. But there is really no clear cut way to learn it fast. It just takes time unfortunately. Lots of free play practice and patience.
This guy is actually such a proficient coach. I’m a snowboard instructor and it’s cool to see the similarities in coaching or instructing that are consistent among all types of activities regardless of what sport it is!
For example he used very traditional teaching tactics like “example, attempt, feedback” and asking questions to asses the student’s skill level to better decide what they need to learn, brilliant
How important is it to know this? After almost 2k hours and being C3 for a while, I still haven’t learned directional air roll. I strictly use it for half flips.
how did i make it to diamond.. i only have air roll left binded.. time to learn regular air roll again! Thank you for this video! Hope I make it to champ :)
Think before you get to the side wall, will this be an air roll right? or Will this be an air roll left?.you can also use both air roll L or R, depending on how you choose to leave the sidewall. I have my air roll left bound to L1, paired with power slide. I have air roll right bound to R1. boost is O, jump X, air roll 🔳. and there is a use for each one at all times. hit the rings and learn the mechanics.
I have a question, this is the first video I have seen of yours and I want to know if you have your boost binded to what is normally reverse does that mean you never have an instance where u have to go in reverse?
I'm comfortable with having left and right air roll binded. I'm also comfortable with having just one with joystick air roll and air roll left binded. My question is, which one is better when learning other mechanics in the future. Unless it's just preference.
Just comes down to preference imo. I just air roll left for my mechanics but for lining up some shots, I'll air roll right a lil bit if need be but you'll see pros do both in all scenarios so idk lol
I am diamond 3 and float around champ 1, 2000 hours and have played since 2015. Today I realised that air roll (direction) is important and not just for freestyle. Now I gotta learn a new mechanic :(

As a PC player I just use Q and E to air roll, could never get used to using the dedicated air roll key.
That was an awesome vid !
What you & virge said is so true , I'm GC 1 and i grinded all the way over there by soloQing.
The first part is air rolling for recoveries and half flips ( gold - plat )
Then you can air roll to shot more accuratly ( diamond )
Then you can use air roll to adjust your car in the air more efficiently ( champ )
And finally you can full air roll to aerial & airdribble to make your shot unpredictable ( GC + )
I'm just a little bit disapointed that you don't have asked any KBM player :'( ( I'm a KBM player)
I’m here to watch and follow your video spook
Your so underrated man you help A lot :)
I am c2 ( I know, not that great ) and never really used air rolls, except to orient my car when falling and on wall aerial shots to be parallel to the ball.
Dude Ik I’m like super late but you’ve helped me hit my first air dribble and my air roll is decent now 😁
Really nice video bro, I learned things even tho I’m a freestyler
ughh that intro gives me goosebumps everytime:))))
Virge's explanation was the most helpful to me
On his channel he has his own guides which I find better than channels like Luke’s which kinda spam out a bunch of videos on mechanics you can’t really explain too easily but are flashy and people want to learn them quick but really just need hours put in to learn it virge is no BS another good channel for mechanics is thanovic and is 100 hours series very helpful
This was incredibly helpful thanks
dude these are useful tips! thank you :)
I’m d1 and thanks to your air roll vids and super good at air rolling and can really consistently use it in air dribbles and aireils
LOve the intro.... 1/4 tornado spin to come off wall at d3 c1
?
Solid questioning in this video. Keep those up.
this is actually so helpful thank you will have to practice this alot while keeping in mind fail is not an option :)
All of your videos are incredibly helpful and informative.
thanks luke you helped me with my airdribble
Adolfo Corona Ok but I assume that your ground plays are through the roof?
@@cdripn9958 you would assume wrong lmaoooo. My flicks arent consistent at all or accurate most of the time. Im honestly mad dog which is rather surprising considering I hit the top 100 leaderboards at the end of last season. Dont gotta be good to be at the top
Adolfo Corona very interesting
I think manual air roll is 100% needed... gc2 here, i use manual air roll for the small adjustments on recovering fast, angled shots/passes, everything else air roll right
great video, learned some tips I'll be using when I hop into the game again
Virge's advice is good for life. Uncomfortable Situational Control
Thank you i will learn how to be better at air roll
happy to know level 5 is where my thought process is at! we’re getting there💪🏽
great vid!
Just one thing
I'm C1 and my air dribbles without spinning the entire time looks like gold one
I can't do air dribble, or any air play without spinning the entire time ( except some times you know)
Just to say that it's not a bad thing, you don't have to learn how to air dribble without spining the entire time first
At least from my personal experience
Thank you for this.
Man, that room sure has a lot of echo "gatcha, gatcha", "good, good", "nice, nice".
im only 5 minutes into unbinding joy stick air roll for directional and i already see improvement
I haven't used regular air roll since I hit gold a few years back. Is it that important to have regular air roll?
What is the point of reference in your mind? To you continously observe the hood and control in relation to the hood or do you check which part of the car is in front and control it from there? I think this information could really help me train.
Create a private match and set the speed to slow-mo, it really helps with getting the feel for adjustments
i really liked what lvl 5 said
I'm champ learning air roll left, I have seen huge improvement in controlling my car in the air, hopefully it won't take me too long to master it...
i needed this
Great content, very concise and articulate
The fact he's speaking with the Gold like he's a 5 year old barely capable of understanding the english language just makes this video
So
Trying to stay focused on the content and not be absorbed by the music.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who uses only directional air roll lol
Does he have a video on every single movement and combination you can do? I really need that
Bro that’s literally just you having to figure it out based on which one you have binded since the car is always spinning and where you need to go always changes you have to build muscle memory for it there’s no just “I know this does this so when my car is like this I move my joystick this way” it just has to be fluid and you have to develop it to a level where’s its muscle memory and you don’t have to think about it
@@jackcoonrod5400 I just don’t know where to start
all i can say is the music is phenomenal I felt like I was walking through the halls of hogwarts the whole time BIG VIBE
I've been stuck at Champ for forever now yet I never knew about left/right air roll lol can't even half flip.
Imo it’s insanely good to get used to for recoveries
how did i make it to diamond.. i only have air roll left binded.. time to learn regular air roll again!
Hours of air roll tutorials from this guy and I still can't do level one of leths giant rings while holding air roll
I have a question, this is the first video I have seen of yours and I want to know if you have your boost binded to what is normally reverse does that mean you never have an instance where u have to go in reverse?
I watched your fn like 2 years ago and now I’ve found you here
I'm comfortable with having left and right air roll binded. I'm also comfortable with having just one with joystick air roll and air roll left binded. My question is, which one is better when learning other mechanics in the future. Unless it's just preference.
Just comes down to preference imo. I just air roll left for my mechanics but for lining up some shots, I'll air roll right a lil bit if need be but you'll see pros do both in all scenarios so idk lol
unfortunable your coaching advice came in, while i was hoping to see which directions you type in with your left control stick x))
at 5:40 i guess
@SpookLuke is your gas and brake on your joystick?
I am diamond 3 and float around champ 1, 2000 hours and have played since 2015. Today I realised that air roll (direction) is important and not just for freestyle. Now I gotta learn a new mechanic :(
