  • Punk and D-Beat band formed in 1979, The band is characterized by a minimalistic approach of music and lyrics. Heavy, distorted and grinding guitar driven sound and raw, shouted vocals similar to a political speech, with lyrics on anarchist and pacifist themes over intense drone like rhythms. AllMusic calls the band's sound a high speed noise overload characterized by ferocious noise blasts, The band's 1982 debut album Hear nothing See nothing Say nothing, went to number two on the UK Indie Charts and number 40 in the UK Album Chart. In the early 1980s numerous singles and EPs placed in the top 10 of the UK Indie Charts, including the 1981 EP Why and the 1982 single State Violence State Control. the albums influenced many thrash metal, black metal, crust, grindcore and various extreme metal subgenres, Discharge's influence on heavy metal and punk rock is incalculable and metal superstars such as Metallica, Anthrax, Machine head, Soulfly and Sepultura have covered Discharge's songs in tribute, The musical genre of D beat is named after Discharge and their distinctive drumbeat. Atkinson left later that year followed by Bamford, and the band recruited their roadie Kelvin Cal Morris as vocalist, moving Terry Roberts to drums and Wainwright to bass. With Morris's addition the group abandoned their previous Sex Pistols influenced material and developed a new set of songs with a retooled sound, Anthony Roberts played guitar with a heavy, distorted and grinding style and Morris shouted or screamed vocals without melody. The tempo of the band's songs also steadily increased over the next year or so, The stylistic transition made by the band was part of a broader trend in the early 1980s in the UK, which is known as UK82 or Second Generation UK Hardcore. Discharge and bands such as Chaos UK, Amebix and GBH took the existing 1977 era punk sound and melded it with the incessant, heavy drumbeats and wall of sound distortion guitar pioneered in the Overkill album by Motorhead.

      @@seanmcdonald8452 you're absolutely right. And for whatever reason the second half of my comment never got posted. But it went something like this, "upon my initial listening to Discharge and immediately becoming a lifelong fan. I had to rethink my initial response" . Please take in my mind I was maybe 12yrs old when I first heard them and now present day I'm a nearly 40yr who's got a good understanding of the band and has had the privilege to seeing them live once. Definitely one of my favorite shows ever

    I almost look at Discharge as like punk perfected, or its minimal essence taken to its absolute maximum, absolutely everything unnecessary stripped away. There's a purity to it. Playing almost as fast as physically possible, as loud as possible, only one or two lines per song, no melody at all, chorus-verse-chorus-solo-done.

    • @TimGoodman
      @TimGoodman Год назад +4

    Rite on the Punk band that Metalheads like, I say that cause I started off being a Metalhead in my Pre Teen yrs with Venom, Bathory, Celtic Frost/Hellhammer, Slayer, King Diamond/Mercyful Fate, Mayhem, Darkthrone, Necrophagia, Possessed, Morbid Angel, Death I only knew Iggy Pop And The Stooges my gateway to Punk then I found out about Discharge LOVED em and soon after I got into other Hardcore bands witch led me to like Punk more the usual Minor Threat, Black Flag, Cro Mags, Agnostic Front and Bad Brains as a newbie when I heard The Exploited though that was my game changer aside from them becoming my favorite Punk band of all time but from there through them I went into the Street Punk and Oi Punk rabbithole then I found my favorite style of Punk period but I would say Discharge led me to find more aggressive style of Punk as from there I began finding more Hardcore bands for newbie Punk in me over a decade and a half ago oh and Broken Bones freakin rule too!! I have yet to see Discharge live they don’t tour the states much and the last album End Of Days was really good!!!
