- WATCH: Videos show the moments leading up to Arizona police shooting a man wielding what officers called a samurai sword on Sept. 10. The Phoenix Police Department said a witness called 911 and told police that he allegedly saw a man striking the police station fence with what appeared to be a large sword. Authorities say officers shot the man after he allegedly walked toward them while raising the weapon.

A real swordsman would of blocked those bullets with his sword.
Maybe he did....who knows? Might have parried the first five!
True.
And spend more time on a costume! I would have gone with the "Zorro" look....
You’d think the glow coming off of his skin would have acted like a force field
I was surprised that both 911 operators initially missed the part about the samurai sword. The 1st one misheard "samurai" for "camera" and the 2nd operator missed it completely. And the officer who forgot to put his car in park made me chuckle a little.
Yeah what were they doing with their ears?
If you do have to call 911, be brief, clear, and concise while speaking. Try to stick to interview format.
@@garystinnett8321 Bingo! I can understand the first one, but the 2nd caller said samurai sword pretty clearly and she still missed it, lol.
I think 911 operators should have real-time transcription software running for all their calls. I bet it would prevent a ton of misunderstandings which would also speed up response times. Plus, with all the recent advancements with AI and machine learning, I assume that after running the software for a few months, the AI would start to learn all the various accents as well.
That first dispatcher sounds like she might be high on something or hard of hearing.
They should have a higher standard for dispatchers.
The way the guys said samurai i thought he said camera! the sword didnt register but in not paying that much attention!
Imagine the initial info the dispatcher gave the officers of someone damaging the fence with a camera
Samurai sword=camera😂🤦🏻
Cameras are made for shooting, after all
Shoutout to the officer for forgetting to put the patrol vehicle in park before getting out😂
I was laughing ngl 🤣
The adrenaline is pumping. Shoutout blue 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Clearly a VCQB tactic, if the vehicle is moving forward, you can get behind the d pillar even quicker.
When you're in a hurry to shoot somebody you tend to forget the little things.
I feel it's a sign they're coming in a little too hot. It's important to take a chill before a known encounter. Not saying they weren't justified, but they may have come up with a different tactic.
why is it dispatchers never seem to be paying attention till the second or third time being told . guy clearly said sword she hears camera ?
"Samurai" sounds an awful lot like like "camera" over the phone.
He has the power of god and anime on his side.
He really didn’t
A true samurai would have easily deflected those bullets with his blade.
Most amazing released bodycam footage ever. Only a few seconds of footage and a still frame with no audio whatsoever.
The operators need to listen! Ugh
Plenty of job openings hon. Don't sit home and waste your time on You Tube. Pick up the phone.
No, the video shows the moment he was shot and the moments after he was shot too. Whoever edited the video decided that it only shows the moments before it happened.
might be safer to put it in park when you arrive.....
First dispatcher that actually sounds surprised over a crazy person doing crazy stuff.
First day.
Jesus dispatcher, LISTEN.
"No my friend, you are not Miyamoto Musashi."
Wish someone told him this sooner.
Maybe the cops yelled it at before they ran up and shot him. Doubt there would be time to get a word off, but you never know.
The last samurai meets his end, lesson learned.
From a famous samurai death poem by Minamoto No Yorimasa; "Like a fossil tree
from which we gather no flowers,
sad has been my life
fated no fruit to produce."
Minamoto fought in the Genpei wars and was captured. He honorably committed seppuku with his wakizashi and incorporated that poem.

In L.A. when a guy pulled the sword thing, the fire department used a ladder to pin him and a fire hose to disarm him and keep him pinned.
That sounds better than shooting him dead before trying anything else first.
" That's Wild" I've got to give it to this dispatch lady, upfront and honest and just, enjoying the oddball swinging a sword, outside of a police station lmaooo
Samurai has no goal, only path
The Last Samurai.
We js gon pass over the fact the cop hopped out hands on hip and not clutch.. bro left the car in drive😭
why hire someone with selective hearing for this job? He said SAMURAI SWORD like 15 times but none of these women on the phone even acknowledged it
Justified, life threatening stupidity just can't be tolerated in society.
Can you bring some justice to social media then too that might be the bigger threat making our society dumber by the second
Stay in the hills Bob, its all around.
The guy was clearly a cop hater looking for trouble. He got it.
Prolly suicidal
Another crazy bites dust-
Doesn't even show the shooting?
"samurai sword"? Did it belong to a samurai? At best it is a Japanese sword, more likely it is a copy of a Japanese sword.
Yeah I guess the caller should have taken the sword for metallurgical testing, to determine if it really came from Japan and was constructed according to traditional Japanese methods hundreds of years ago
Or y'know, maybe he called it a samurai sword because it gets the point across
A Wise Man once said "The Glock Is Mightier Than The Sword"
Get better 911 operators. How do they not understand samurai sword immediately?
Imagine blaming the police because they shot a guy that was charging at them with a sword...
I mean they basically showed up to put him down, but what else can you do =/
Uh he didn't charge at them, he charged adjacent to them and he was so far away. Like you can't snipe someone a football field away because they're charging at you. There should be a minimum distance someone has to be before you can shoot them and I think there's no way that officer feared for their life at that distance.
@@Sup3rB4dVideos That distance is routinely held to be 21 feet. Plenty of suspects armed with knives have been recorded on video closing that gap after being shot, including on this channel.
@@aaronmdjones Seems like the victim was more than 21 feet away. These cops just popped out to take that guy's life away. It wasn't necessary to shoot at that point.
Obviously another victim of the clot shots.
This channel should probably stop posting police videos if they're always gonna edit out the important parts. Full context matters. This censorship only gives the ign0rant folks more of a reason to blame the police who are defending their own lives.
True - censorship almost always causes distrust and lack of understanding, not to mention that it is authoritarian.
@@zerogiven1956 To see if the use of force was justified, etc. For instance, if he dropped the sword and put his hands up, that would suggest it wasn't justified...
but I guess they just don't want us to know what happened, because it would be too hard for us to watch. **eyeroll**
Yeah, history dictates that if you're going to get high it's best to leave your samurai swords at home over the fire place. This almost never ends well.
Now children this a teachable moment. Never bring a knife to a gunfight 😅
This is the dark side of anime addiction no one wants to talk about.
Respect to the LEO’s involved in the taking down of this suspect.
The first guy report in the crime must have just woke up and haven't had his coffee yet
Dispatcher:He's swinging a samurai sword? Thinks to herself .. ooh someone's getting shot.
how does the operator hear "camera" instead of sword? i went back and listened again and he said it clearly
I thought he was wearing long johns… looks like someone was spending a lot of time indoors enjoying his fantasy world
This is what needs to be done with misfits, No trial, no jury, just bury them.
Dispatch ignored him saying samurai sword. Duh.
Why don't 911 repeat exactly what is said to them, rather than talking over the top of the callers.
Let the caller speak, then repeat back exactly what they've heard.
Would avoid mistakes and save time.
Now that cop is going to write a book called The last last Samurai
Don't bring a samurai sword to a gun fight.
( Someone had to write it )
Hes using a what? A foam finger?
Are they pee testing dispatch? 🙄
Don't forget to put your vehicle in park before exiting.
"so he's swinging a samurai sword ??" "that's fine"
Note to self: Put vehicle in PARK....THEN exit said vehicle.
Don't bring a sword to a gunfight
dont bring a sword to a gun fight.
Dude watched too much Samurai Jack lol
There can be only one!
I like how the operator and caller are just laughing at this Fool getting blasted XD
I don't think that pulling straight up to him with lights flashing and immediately pointing guns was the way to go in that situation honestly. I don't know if they were trained on situations like this, but that tactic seems very likely to escalate someone who is mentally ill and/or on serious narcotics.
Do you live in America? They are trained to shoot first, ask questions later.
Too bad they didn't send you to get all cut up.

Gun > Sword
Narrator, you shouldn't drink before recording, you're slurring your words.
Where was the less lethal at?
I trim my bushes with my samurai sword, maybe a should stop before I get shot 😀
Well there goes the last samurai.
Incompetent from the top down. SMH
There was a wacko in Sedona a few years ago. He looked like a gypsy with a samurai hairdo, and he carried a short sword. He scared people so the cops ran him out of town. He might have made a friend or two but I always saw him alone, looking angry and scary.
I listen to the police dispatch often and heard one sword dispatch and the police
Response was kind of surprising, they responded fast and en masse which I thought was interesting because I have heard very long delays for other calls with other types of weapons that I would consider more lethal but yeah swords have such a long reach can be very deadly
In all fairness, the dude was poking his sword through the fence _of the police station_
Like, talk about kicking a hornets' nest
Possible suicidal/delusional armed individual, of course a bunch of officers would show up, they all want the free kill.
He was at the police precint, why wouldn't response time be super fast? Cops on duty will be entering and leaving constantly and staffed in the building itself. In addition there's no having to figure out where it is for cops out on patrol.
Yeah, because there is actual danger. If they were actually in danger they wouldn't have ran towards the suspect, wouldn't have gotten close enough to maybe be in sword range, and gun him down. You can see when they get out, so eager to kill this guy they forget to put it in park, but because there is no danger he runs towards him and jumps back into the car. If the guy had a Molotov they wouldn't go near him. Especially without anyone in danger, or even on the same block.
If that cop got so excited about a guy with a sword, that he kept his truck in gear, I would hate to see how he would react to a person with a firearm. Some people just aren't built for stressful situations. They're often times the type of person who shouldn't be a cop.
Why use the gun first? They have tasers and sprays and we're at a distance.
You're kidding right?
forget some of the vid??
So they couldn't taze him. What's the point in having tazers, if these officers can't think to use them when there is a threat to you but it is not as great as another gun? Needlessly popping holes in people.
Tasers have a maximum range of 25 feet, their optimal range is less
Meanwhile the range at which someone poses a serious threat with a blade is about 20 feet
That is to say, a person can be 20 feet from you, and charge at you, and have the blade in your flesh before you can draw and get on target
This gives anyone using a taser a five-foot window where they _might_ be able to draw a pistol in case the taser fails
The point of the taser is to prevent escalation. Someone with a drawn weapon circling you is already escalated.
Watch more TASER videos - it is not a 100% effective weapon, even when both electrodes pierce skin. Here, it was quite possible that the cop would miss with the TASER, or an electrode would be deflected by the sword. I believe TASERs are also single-shot, so if the officer missed, or if he hit but the TASER failed to bring down the assailant, he'd likely be sliced up.
He picked the wrong weapon. Not the fault of the police 🤷♀️
You need to researcher the effectiveness of tasers more bud
While you were studying at the academy I was studying the bla- AH OW SHI-
Cop forgets to put vehicle in park....wow
nice 3d rpg shooter, when is the beta
So uncivilized
Why bother showing us when you just edit out everything....? Police activity is so much better.
Is there a dispatcher in the comments who can explain why everything needs to be repeated three or for times? A couple months back I called about what was a small but growing fire at the moment that was next to a gas station. I spoke slowly, enunciated, and still had to give her the address, cross streets, and other info four times before she acknowledged what I'd said correctly. She's kept saying "A fire"? over and over so I said, "Yes, a fire! A pile of objects have combusted and are now emitting smoke and visible flames ma'am. A FIRE!" It was so frustrating.
Nani!?
Lmfao notice me sempi
remember those grenade launcher net prototypes they were working on in the 90s? Whatever happened with that?
Hahahaha I think the car wanted a piece of the action also😆👌🍻
First reaction to seeing someone with a sword, when u have a gun, should not be to shoot them, but to find something to stop them, shooting should be the last thing u do, police should have like a samurai sword aswell, and they could have had an epic fight, but seriously, shooting a mentally ill person... police should have something to deal with those kinds of threats, like a big rope catchy thing thing, u know, just something.
adding that the video was from Law&Crime Network was the organization that posted a real sword at images 3:00 to 3:04. isn't this tampering with evidence? Hmmmmmm!

Why do so many people have a really hard time articulating what’s going on on 911 calls???
"samurai sword" was a bad choice of words by those callers. Should have kept it simpler. Not that you can criticize people under pressure like that.
Because people suck at communicating now.
Casper’s at it again!

The cop forgot park lol
the cops didn't have to leave their vehicles. His death could have been avoided. The caller even suggested that the man had mental issues, which guess what?!?! he obviously did. The cops could have pulled up at a distance and tried to gauge the threat. Realize it's just some cracked-out guy, and then blasted him from the car with riot bean bags. The interaction between him and the police could have lasted more than 15 seconds, but these mf'ers shoot first and then hide behind their union.

Try aiming at the legs first?
Go on then, show us how it's done
You should research this further. Would you want the officer to aim at the legs, if you were in your car somewhere behind the sword-wielding lunatic?
In well-informed self-defense circles, everyone laughs at the idea of aiming for the leg, because it's a difficult shot that presents a huge risk of killing bystanders. Also, shooting someone in the leg can easily kill them.

The UK police was lucky. You can't compare apples to oranges. The guy got shot because of his stupidity.

@@smellard1049 reread what I wrote. Lucky as anything can happen. Struggling with reading comprehension?
I’ve got a good one for you. And I’m going to skip y’all’s police brutality issue. Well a few actually. Let’s discuss:
5 SEP 2022, Chris Kaba flees from London police in his vehicle. After police force his vehicle to stop they shoot him multiple times and he dies. HE HAD NO WEAPONS.
11 DEC 2021, an UNIDENTIFIABLE MAN, was shot and killed by London Police when they received reports that someone may have had a gun. They identified the man. He fled. They shot him multiple times.
26 JUN 2021, Odichukumma Kelvin Igweani, had killed a man and child. London Police arrived to the scene. They deployed a taser which was ineffective. The man was subsequently shot and killed (oh look at that tasers don’t work).
8 NOV 2020, Graham Tinder was shot and killed by London Police after he got into a fist fight with a man in the street. Neither man had a weapon yet Mr. Tinder was still shot and killed for the fight.
8 MAR 2020, Hassan Yahah was shot and killed by London Police when he refused to put down a knife during a standoff. It is reported he made no moves towards officers.
6 JAN 2020, William Cameron was transported to Loddon Police Station in a state of “unconsciousness” the man later died under unknown causes.
4 JAN 2019, Sean Fitzgerald was shot and killed in Coventry, England during a search of a property. He was unarmed, posed no threat, and even attempted to surrender. He was shot 5 times.
29 NOV 2019, Lewis Skelton was tased by Humberside Police, after teasing him the officers shot him multiple times.
UK police aren’t perfect. So don’t try and play it off like they’re “the standard”.
