Ooooh, how I envy you. I was a Combat Medic in Iraq 2003-2004 and I drove a hummer ambulance. I always thought of how cool it would be to convert one into a camper and here you are. My ambulance when thru hell. The soldiers in my unit made a fake Purple Heart for my ambulance for all the bullet hits and fragmentation damage from the roadside bombs (IED’s) we survived. Unfortunately I gat injured on a mortar attack on July 2003 but, I recuperated and went back to do my job. That same night other 3 Combat Medics gat injured in firefights. Looks like it was a hunting Medics night. I wonder how many soldiers made it back home alive thanks to that ambulance. Take of it. She took good care of us. Happy camping.
Thank you for your Service! That’s an amazing story and love stories like yours. I wish I knew more of the backstory of this one considering it’s 30+ years old
Hi! and its an honor to have serve my country I believe if you can find the NSN (national stock number) in vehicle, you can track the history of service, locations and repairs. Take care and enjoy life.
So jealous of your build, I've had the same desire for the retired hummer ambulance. Love what you have done. Great job. What do you think about adding an awning on the rear or sides?
@@armymedic0001That’s not what an NSN number is. An NSN isn’t individually unique like a VIN, it’s like a part number. It’s just a standardized numbering system given to designate types of things in the supply chain. For example the M997 HMMWV (NA) TRUCK AMBULANCE has the NSN 2310-01-111-2274. They all have the same NSN for that model, not different ones individually.
I’m a former Army medic and I spent MANY MANY nights….weeks…in one of these and you have quite literally read my mind and taken every single idea I’ve had for converting one (except the skylight, stealing that one) even the layout. Absolutely perfect build and just…beautiful.

I hear you brother, I was also a 91B that is what Combat Medics were before it changed to 68 whiskey, I was actually in the last class of Bravo's @FT Sam it changed to Whiskey half way through AIT. I actually spent the end of my career as a DMT Dive Medic. FTX's, range details, convoys, liter lanes, motor pool and PMCSing. I have spent countless hours in the back of the M997. 1999-2021 OIF,OEF,OND Iraq joint bass Ballad(North of Baghdad) Deployed and upgraded to the Shit Strikers then to my own medic MRAP which saved my 6. That said I always wanted to do this to the M997 I see them for sale on some gov sites from time to time. TheHIVEDIVE what are the numbers on the conversion? I am interested to do the same!! Great video by the way. Lastly to all my Brothers and Sisters in Arms past, present and future GOD BLESS!!
if the maintenance isn't too bad, i can see this or something similar as a better solution than a house in the modern economy and unstable society. as for shower, there's always homeless shelters, ymca, gyms, and truck stops
Finally I've found a guy who has toilet and shower in his campervan. There are tons of videos on YT with camper builds without toilet. And even more without shower. They use most of space for big kitchen and all unnecessary stuff, and they don't have a place to $hit of wash themselves. Great job! You've earned a new subscriber!
Depends on what is your goal. Where I go, I'm always alone so I don't mind washing myself in a lake or a river. If that isn't available, my outside shower does just fine. As for the toilet, it's really only for #1 at night, anything should be done outside.
At one point I was basically homeless living out of my car. If you dont have the luxuries of a home (bed, kitchen, toilet, water, fridge, etc) some of the "campers" I see are closer to glorified homeless mobiles. It gets old needing to constantly use public bathrooms, cook outside, shower outside, etc. After all, these are for traveling so your on the road often. I would install a shower and toilet as well as the other necessities (although I'm unfamiliar with the compost toilet thing). This is undoubtedly the best platform for transforming into a usable, true little rv.
Well done! In years of driving and riding in M997s as a medic, I often thought of how to make one into a camper. Not in my wildest dreams did I come up with this.
I've always wanted to build one of these into a camper the moment I first saw a HMMWV ambulance over 30 years ago, but I have never come across one for sale that I could afford. I love the simplicity of your build. Sometimes people get carried away with do dads in their overlanded. Yours has just the right balance of comfort and practicality.

wife and I have thought about eventually converting a van into a camper, but I think I'd like a Humvee camper more. I don't think I personally would need as much as what you put into yours, but it would be a dream to have that, but we would also need a bigger bed since there'd be the 2 of us. Awesome job!
Love this build. I love seeing these less common vehicles used to be converted, but one of the ONLY things I think about watching these would be how rough it would be to find replacement parts lmao
Have been watching this all along and loving it. I don't usually comment on these, but your down to earth perspective, trying to save $ where you can and making it relatable have all been great! I just recently bought a 1097 and have been having a blast with it. Not sure I am ready to do a camper yet, but you have inspired me to consider it! If your every in the Northeast(Cape Cod)area and need a spot for the night or help with the rig, reach out! Hope this isn't the end of your Vlog!
To begin, your decision to buy a Humvee is awesome, the way it looks make you think it is sturdy and secure. Next, the use of the space is smart, knowing the limit of space you had and finally adding some gadgets is cool, it makes it seem higher quality amenities. I think that is something I would never get tired of.
Now this has to be one of the best "camper" conversions I have seen. Not those huge, overweight monstrosities that sell for 200K+. This is a true, go anywhere, camper! Love it!
Didn't just enjoy the tour, I loved it! Awesome project and great to not have to build the container, just work with something finished and getting the fun stuff done 😋 Really awesome result!
Watch out for exploding power steering pumps! The good news is you'll know right away when it happens, because your windshield will turn green and your steering will immediately suck wholesale.
Picture this: The sun is setting, casting a warm glow over the rugged terrain as the Humvee camper navigates through rocky trails and dense forests. With its powerful engine and sturdy build, the Humvee effortlessly tackles the off-road challenges ahead. Inside the camper, you're comfortably seated, enjoying the thrill of the adventure while surrounded by all the essentials for a memorable camping experience. Whether it's climbing steep inclines or fording shallow streams, the Humvee camper is up for the task, providing you with the ultimate off-road getaway. Would love to see a video like this...
Dude that was absolutely amazing!!!! The wet up is outstanding and I especially like the honeycomb style tile in the bathroom!!! A solid 11 out of 10 bro!!!!!
Thank you! Myself and other vets have dreamt/thought of doing this your execution of our collective dreams is phenomenal. Really great job and thank you for doing what you do bringing dreams to life.
Your build is amazing, I can’t believe you crammed so much luxury into a small space like that and the updates to the hummer alone had my jaw dropping.
Great video and super conversion. You must have spent a good amount of time thinking about how you wanted the camper to work and it shows. The workmanship is very nice and I know you must be proud of how it turned out. Congrats on a job well done. (Love the shower demo)
Spent so many months in one of those in Afghanistan. Always thought that they were the most uncomfortable rides that you could have. I like the RV, but love the upgrades in the cab. Those seats were awesome. Great build.

AND, with your dad and friends, even better. I have a feeling we will see bigger and better from this channel. U have a fan.
This is my first time to watch & see a RV made from Humvee and I like it. I like the way you present it too, you look so cool man...🙂👍 Enjoy that, keep safe & more power...🙂👍
This is just awesome! Taking a vision to reality! Cant even fathom the amount of knowledge it took to take this from conception to finished product. Just so cool and you're a skater- we figure shit out man love it!
Hey there! You did an awesome job on the conversation! I just wanted to suggest that if you add Pullman Bed, it would be perfect for accommodating two people in the camper. It's a great way to make your guests feel more comfortable. Hope this helps!
I see served in Iraq with a medical unit in 2003 and always thought the Humvee ambulances would make excellent campers. You see people getting their campers stuck all the time in sand and mud and having to call a tow service to help them. With a hummer camper you have that legendary off road ability. Glad to see someone finally doing it.
I'd like to see others who have converted the Humvee to a RV. these are a lot more readily available than one might think, as they are on the Govt surplus auction sites literally every day and go for pennies compared to the cost of a Civilian H1.Yes there is paperwork but they are all cleared for sale to be used on US roads by US citizens. This one is definitely a good layout but as with all conversions, the different designs are a product of different minds... definitely would love to see other's Humvee builds. Also the MRAP 6 wheel truck is another military chassis that is super easy to acquire on the govt sites. at any rate this a really well done conversion. I esp love the driver's area.. so many times the 'command center' is left to the wind and you did an amazing job with it.😎👍
They are NOT all cleared for US roads.... the rules for HMMWV's titling/registration for on-road use vary from state to state. About half the states now will not title a HMMWV for on-road use. My state will not allow you to get plates for it no matter if it was on-road-titled in another state like Utah. It's why that 17 digit VIN on a civilian H1 is worth the price you pay. Also be aware that there are over 30 changes that AM General made to the the structure of the H1 to make it meet safety regs at the time they were manufactured... including anti-decapitation brackets that the military didn't see fit to install. As someone who took a barrel roll in my first H1, I appreciate AM General going through that process.
@@nothingtoseaheardammitIm in Florida and you can title a lawn mower with a V8 and tail lights to drive on the hwy, and we have 100s of the military spec H1 on the road. you can also cut the body off a Honda civic and weld the body of a 65 mustang onto it. the initial rules of safety designs dont apply once a car has sold and esp if the state or county doesnt have inspections. This is why the US is great we get 50 diff options to choose where we want to live and what we want to do and have to put up with in laws.. ill stick to Florida.
a truck but as spacious as a van (famous hummer width) but also the off road capability of a truck.. plus solar and lithium.. and lastly a bathroom and a bed - love it! ❤️ 🏕🏕🏕🏕
Beautifully done and very creative on the build as a whole. Very nice on power system and I personally would have 200 watt solar panels because I would want the AC and entertainment systems run all night lol. You should buy one of those tiny wood stoves to keep warm all night in the winter.
Thanks! I have a portable battery AC that works amazing. And for heat I thought about the stove but just tapped into the diesel and added a diesel heater
now this is something different. just the idea of converting this into camper is something that never come to my mind. I respect the part that you can enter from the front without the need to go out into the element to get back to your sleeping space.
I’ve spent many an hour fixing these Humvees. My wife has spent many an hour driving them. This is an excellent use of an old FLA. my only problem with it is the keys in a Humvee.
As both an Army Medic and Army mechanic, this is a really good job on the M997 conversion. In Iraq, most of us could see the potential of 996 and 997 HMMWVS as RVs. If you end up thinking the 6.2 liter V8 GM, you can drop a newer 6.5 turbo with a little more 💪. I love working on old HMMWVs because most of it is super simple mechanical and minimal electrical systems. Great Job.
I love your choice of vehicle and the way it fits your intended purpose, a couple of things that I would do different are round off the corners of your kitchen top, you never see right angle edges on boats, change the cooker for an induction hob it is so much simpler in a situation like yours, get a second alternator 200+Ahr on the truck engine just to charge the house bank.
I have always been wondering about Humvee conversions. You made a really nice one. Kudos to you. The width just seems so ideal, along all other benefits of having a Humvee. And yes, a bathroom is a must for me as well. The only thing that concerns me is that the exterior color choice could make things too hot.
Damn, I’ve had this idea for the past 3 years but didn’t have the time or money to do it. I had never seen one before and thought this was a no brainer over landing rig. Nice work it looks amazing
Your build became so sick! Congrats on the "one of a kind" outcome.. 🙌🏼 Wishing you all the best for upcoming roadtrips and here's to the memories along the way with greetings from Land Rover Defender owners from germany ☺

In 20 years of looking at tiny homes and small spaces no one has ever taken a shower. Original stuff. Thanks for sharing.

This is why the US is great we get 50 diff options to choose where we want to live and what we want to do and have to put up with in laws.. ill stick to Florida.
really nice interior. kitchen side was definitely my favourite .
Thank you! Mine too
Wow! What a sweet rig. You did a fantastic job. Congrats and safe travels.
Thank you!
a truck but as spacious as a van (famous hummer width) but also the off road capability of a truck.. plus solar and lithium.. and lastly a bathroom and a bed - love it! ❤️ 🏕🏕🏕🏕
Thank you! I definitely thought it out
Respect. Looks amazing! Kitchen is beautiful! And the truck is rad.
Thank you!
Great build out of that Humvee. Space utilization is stellar.
Thanks, I appreciate it
Beautifully done and very creative on the build as a whole.
All i can say is wow. . . .dream RV
Wow thank you
Huh Huh!!! The best part of the video is the last shower show!! Hat's off buddy. Just awesome! Love it man! 🙂
Haha thank you
Used to fantasize about something like this while in the Army. Hated these things.
Right on man!!!!
You got to build what has been in my dreams for years, it’s freaking perfect. Slow clap…
Thank you! I appreciate it
now this is something different. just the idea of converting this into camper is something that never come to my mind. I respect the part that you can enter from the front without the need to go out into the element to get back to your sleeping space.
Thanks
LOVED that actual splash! It was so unexpected and funny!❤
Haha thanks!
Never heard someone use "And" as their filler word. Really makes it unnoticeable. Great video.
Tnx, now it is impossible to unhear it …😂
Amazing work and a great repurpose of some badass equipment.
Thanks bro!
I’ve spent many an hour fixing these Humvees. My wife has spent many an hour driving them. This is an excellent use of an old FLA. my only problem with it is the keys in a Humvee.
Rarely do I get jealous of another man's skillz but I'm not ashamed to admit that I am definitely jelly of your skillz! That thing is badass!
Haha thanks! I appreciate the kind words
Wow I remember those ambulances when i was i the Army. Nice conversion
I appreciate it. Thanks for your service
This by far the best thing I came across on RUclips today💯🔥👏🏽
Dang! I appreciate that
As both an Army Medic and Army mechanic, this is a really good job on the M997 conversion. Great Job.
Thank you for your service! Awesome yeah I’ll be swapping to a new 6.5 turbo 💪
Wasn't EVEN expecting that shower shot at the end!😂😂😂 Sick rig bro, love it. Its the perfect set up!
Haha thanks! Trying to keep it interesting
That's one unique & awesome Over lander I've seen!!!
Thank you!
The ending was fun haha, what a nice build !! And nice editing btw, really cool visuals and colors 👍
Haha thanks for watching to the end
I love everything you'll done to it. Very well thought out.
I appreciate it!
I always wanted to do this with a humvee ambulance. it's perfect for it.
Thank you 💪
One of the most badass builds ever
Thanks
Super cool build!! Really great job man!! 👍🏼😊
Thank you🙌
Amazing! Love how you customized the Humvee with your wishlist.
Thanks 🙌
I love your choice of vehicle and the way it fits your intended purpose, a couple of things that I would do different are round off the corners of your kitchen top, you never see right angle edges on boats, change the cooker for an induction hob it is so much simpler in a situation like yours, get a second alternator 200+Ahr on the truck engine just to charge the house bank.
Thanks! Yeah the cooker is also setup for induction but it has a larger draw on the batteries so I swapped it to gas
👏Now that's how you do it, I Love It. You did an astonishing job.
I appreciate that!
I have always been wondering about Humvee conversions. You made a really nice one. Kudos to you. The width just seems so ideal, along all other benefits of having a Humvee. And yes, a bathroom is a must for me as well. The only thing that concerns me is that the exterior color choice could make things too hot.
Thanks! Yeah the black so far hasn’t been too bad. Especially when you have a good draft
@@roamingventures I just realized you have a whole series building it. I have to check out more videos. Looking forward to see more of your channel. 😀
Dude!!!.....You Nailed It!!!
Thanks!
Wicked build I noticed the shower afterwards, amazing build love it in every single way.
Thank you 🙌
Oh my gosh, you've build a very, very nice camping Humvee....🫶🏻🤘🏻👍🏻
Thanks, I love how it turned out
Drop down bunk option. Bug screen for rear. Jerry can mounts/bike mounts. Nice build
Thanks, I have some nice additions coming soon
Damn, I’ve had this idea for the past 3 years but didn’t have the time or money to do it. I had never seen one before and thought this was a no brainer over landing rig. Nice work it looks amazing
Thank you 🙌
That is a good looking thing! The door to the front is nice! I was expecting a small sleeping space over the cabin but that is much smarter!
Thank you
I was in an Army Aviation HHC. We converted a HMMVW ambulance into a Jump TOC with radios and map boards in it!
Awesome!
Nice build. Everything you need and more!
Thank you!
nicely done sir. love the humvee platform. I am sure it goes where few RV even dare to consider
Thanks ! Yes that’s exactly what I was thinking when I decided on the Humvee platform
Your build became so sick! Congrats on the "one of a kind" outcome.. 🙌🏼 Wishing you all the best for upcoming roadtrips and here's to the memories along the way with greetings from Land Rover Defender owners from germany ☺
Thanks for following along! I have some more coming soon!
@@roamingventures looking forward to it!
