man, i LOVE D&D!!! when i first created my sona, they didn't really have proper lore. But when I got into d&d, this made me want to add a lot of lore to spacebug. And I'm still working on it... But it's really fun making lore! And a little stressful..
@spacebug_exe That's so cool! Are you using some sort of program like Word to write it down, or is it just mental? I personally have been using the Homebrewery, which, as well as making it look nice, allows me to easily share it (as long as whoever it is doesn't mind the terrible flow and formatting mess) Also, nice to meet you. I'm Moon On The Horizon Etherdell, the Tabaxiborn (Tabaxi/Amethyst Dragonborn) wizard/artificer.
My fursona grew out of a self insert oc (quite cringy and edgy but I love it). Basically it's me isekaid with return by death but without checkpoints and witch, and they're only free when they've stabilized the world they crashed into. So a lot of death, lives only remembered by them. Through the first world they gained magic strong enough to be able to transform. When finally in a world where an anthro dragon is common they settle on such a form. I left out most of it... P.S.: I solved the "character has experiences that force them to mature, but still stays immature" problem, on each reset the memories of the body make up half if it, so they tend to go back to their old ways.
Damn, for me, I got pretty into the fourth dimension once, and then all of a sudden, oops, I accidentally made five billion pages worth of lore for my fursona and how his entire universe works
@@Armoni6282 I mean honestly that is how it works for me too. I barely have a story. Instead I just have a bunch of random lore facts I came up with which I have cobbled together. There isn't really a timeline or anything for when what happened, but rather just statements on what exists, how it works, etc ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. My lore isn't really a story you have to read through in chronological order. Rather it could pretty much be constructed like a wiki page with different categories explaining different aspects of the lore without any strict order.
My sonas Lore is sooo extensive and extreamely cringe... And I luv It >:3 My friends should be careful when asking cuz if not... They might end having had red out loud more books than fnaf has >:p But fr the Lore of my fursona in my case is very personal and comes from even before it existed, but my sona is still me, It started as a silly random story, but It became a full fleshed out world. A safespace where I can explore hypothericals and give another point of view at past events. If they can make It though the plot I can get though anything.
That’s exactly how mine is. More so with my Pokemon OCs than my sonas. What started as a two-character storyline ended up extending to four generations of characters across multiple regions of the world. And almost every character has a pretty well thought out storyline. My sonas are similar but I try not to do too much with them to keep them more open ended and relatable to myself.
My fursona has had progressively less lore with each iteration. At this point the main interest is only around how aspects from previous 'canon' could still be at play with the newest version.
I think I created fursona quickly for website furry registration purposes years ago. I based it on the experience and my popularity of the husky and wolf species. But dragons or lizards would also come into consideration. Well I can't be all things, but I know the combinations are very interesting today.
An internal meme I had with my fursona's lore is that, how you say on the second part of the video, he's where he's at for going through the same things that I went through, explaining why we're so similar (although with even more personal growth, so they don't have some of my worst lore derived traits)😂 Also, I was grooving to the music at the background, love the beats you put on the background of your vids! Would really appreciate if you put in the video description the track you use on each video💙
I have 2 Fursona's and both are purely based off of my interests, hobbies and just general likings, I haven't got a lore yet but from what I have in terms of foundation it wouldn't be hard to create a lore at all with mine and creative writing is something that I enjoy doing and what got me into the fandom since I can't draw for the life of me. So yeah
I’m not like a pro artist or designer sort of thing, but I do think lore can add some depth to a character, like this applies to all character creations, and it would also kinda help on designing the character like the personality and stuff, idk cause I am having some issues with character design and I think that world building or writing a small bit of lore beforehand to help me shape the image of an character. But of course in terms of a making a sona that represents yourself could simply just be any design that you find interesting, I just find writing lore helps a bit on getting a general direction of the design, cause as someone with 0self confidence it feels difficult to create an idealised version of myself
I have many, MANY furry OCs, and almost all of them have interconnected lore. but thats partially because of how I utilize each OC in terms of my identity. My main sona is an original species I created, so I intertwined that species' lore with her personal lore, and my other OCs' lore spins off that same plot. In terms of my identity though, each character has a piece of my personality in them, just amplified. For example, while my main sona is the type of person I aspire to be, my secondary sona has my anxiety and love for science, he's a timid nervous paranoid wreck who will also go on info-dumping sessions about any scientific topic. Another oc embodies my depression, resentment, and other negative/destructive emotions, this character is also the anti-villain of the story. another OC embodies sassiness, assertiveness, and ruthlessness, her character being the true villain of the story. the list goes on. I also just love coming up with characters, and stories! I dont think its odd for someone to not have lore for their sona. Honestly, sometimes I wish I could just be decisive and ok with just having one single representation of myself! it's all a personal choice at the end of the day, what lore you decide to give your sona (or dont), is entirely up to you, and doesn't make you any more or less valid!
definitely in the lore camp personally. Even the sonas I have that are more reflective of me have their own lore, although it's somewhat inspired by my own life. The amount of lore i put into a character is pretty synonymous with how much i adore them and the more i adore them, the more likely they are to be some variation of sona. character without lore are super cool, it's just not a headspace i can put myself in i think, i'm too, ah, story-driven maybe?
i feel like it depends on the fursona itself: if the fursona is just an average guy doing average guy things then you don't really need lore but if there is something about them that would otherwise pose questions (like if he has a big scar across his face) then you should at least have some kind of decent explanation for it.
I have lore for all my sona's, but it mainly depends on the one. For example, my channel sona (not that I debuted it officially, yet) has deep ties into the paranormal. I just think lore is a great idea all around.
Maybe? My only real answer for this, is more questions - Did you write fanfic as a kid (or still do)? - Did/do you have an active imagination? - If you have OCs, do you have lore for them? If you answered "yes", to at least one of these. Then I'd say go for it, you're clearly already interested in writing/creating stories If you answered "no", to all of them. Then, that's fine. Your sona doesn't have to have lore. They cant just be...Steve, the white tiger As far me. My sonas and OCs, technically have lore for them, and technically don't They don't have character specific lore, because I'm more interested in creating the world first (I'm not gonna write stories for them, it's just a personal thing)
I love stories and lore, and so I gave Ink a backstory, and in some situations, power. Given he’s the son of a royal kitsune and humble farmer, means he’s stuck as as humanoid kitsune, and he only has 5 tails because of his lineage, but he’s strong in elemental magic. But that’s also just 1 version of him. Other is just me as magic fox boi
I've some funny evolution to this, as a small purple kobold is how I present myself to the furry Fandom, while also wanting a sona of every species I see but also not wanting alts. So I made them a shapeshifter, and I guess they have lore now lol
I can't get attached to character of out thin air. That's why I end up makeing my Warrior Cat oc into my fursona, tricolor male medicine cat named Patchfox, and he's so much me (or more autistic and scarred side of me) and not with my favorite animal of all time - fox. I just can crate character without any point to start with, I need to put in in the world first. That's also why I adore Dutchine so much - I have something to put my imagination to work to create something
I have lore for my mine. It also explains why she has only one eye. Her lore is very connected to how I see my life. It also explains why I hate the cold.
A great and enjoyable video, just as usual! Since my fursona is (and always has been) me, the only lore I have is my own personal background. I have had furry original characters that were not my fursona, that I used to roleplay on Tapestries MUCK, and those characters often had lore that I came up with.
as a D&D and sci-fi nerd, it was really hard for me not to apply some deep backstory and worldbuilding to my fursona, but at the same time it couldn't make any story that would always work in any setting. like who's gonna bring the handleshard of a magic longsword to a lightsaber fight? on that note, has anyone else assigned a signature weapon to their sona?
Really great video. Intresting concepts, well pit together, quality editing. 9/10 But there is a VERY distracting question that I have. Fo you have a microphone in tour fursuit head? B cause it doesn't sound like it's muffled at all.
I love lore way too much. All of my characters and sonas have some sort of backstory and reasoning for their actions and personalities. It’s hard for me to enjoy a character or even a person who I only know on a surface level.
I just go in detail about my fursonas abilities. For example my fursona is an eastern dragon and it can breath fire because the internal body temperature is so high that the air in the lungs ignite, so the entire lore is just stuff like that. Other than that its just idealized me.
My 3 sonas are me i spit of my personality and put certain parts of my personality into each one so no matter which i personify I'm me. Also mt sona picks are the animals i feel i act like at times.
I've got 2 versions of my fursona with different designs One's an Eldritch Abomination that just so happens to look like an unnerving Arctic Fox with tons of lore And the other is literally just me as a Fox
I feel so weird trying to create Lore for my fursona. It just doesnt feel right lol It's jusst a reflection of me, it's really weird to me to try to write or rewrite stuff about something that feels "Me". My way of life is more than enough
actually, most furries I know don't have any lore for their fursonas. I believe this is because lore is most relevant for gamers and people who use their fursonas in RP. I am not a gamer, so lore isn't something I care much about. My fursona, Grubbs Grizzly, is what I aspire to be. You address both sides, so good on you
I'm actually a hybrid on that topic, my character does have lore but it's based on my real story, is just told differently because it's not a human... if you catch my drift? 😅🥰
hey fin, this isn't related to the video! But when you dress up for a video, do you instantly take off the fursuit? or do you go somewhere? Or is it just for the video :D?
I have something to ask. How do I know if I should consider myself a furry? Is there any way to define it? These are existential doubts that I have, since I don't know whether to consider myself a furry or not.
You just decide that you want to consider yourself a furry. It's not that serious, it's a hobby. You can be a furry if you like fun animal characters, or you can choose to not take the label. You can have your own character, you can have several, you can have none.
I apologize, I've been traveling so much over the past two months that I haven't had time to sit down to make one. They should be returning in October!
It will now be my headcanon that one of Finn's parents was red and the other was blue :P
Ooh this would be fun to retcon into my 'sona 🤔
Honestly this is a personal decision. If you want lore for your sona then yes.
My main fursona is also one of my DnD characters, so I have gone WAY to in-depth with their lore, with everything from their immediate family to their birthday, to even the astrological implications of their birthday (for the record, I do not believe in astrology, but Faerun has unique astrology which I found fun). This is how mine started off in someone's homebrew. I've since then used that as a skeleton to make my own world with his own story
@AzuGoat That's always fun. Good to see so many other DnD furs

I’ll be honest until now I thought I had to have lore for my fursonas, thank you for clarifying that it’s not a must!! Great video Finn!
