This is exactly what I am seeing on the range and on the course. If I remember right, you had a previous video on using the feet to take out a slice. Your videos are so user friendly. If it doesn't rain tomorrow, I'm going to the course and using this video in my drive. Thanks so much.
I tried this the last couple of rounds. Hit it straight on day one. Today was crazy. Best driving day in ages. Hit all thirteen fairways. I normally hit it 185-200. Today I had 10 drives over 190, 7 of which went 200+!. My long, slightly down hill went 228. Will keep working on this. Curious. Does the same set up work on fairway woods and hybrids.
I've been doing this for some time now. I used to be a slicer, now straight as an arrow, or sometimes a draw. It works folks! Thanks for helping us all Alex!
I found this clip on Tuesday. I played a round on Wednesday and decided to give this tip a try when I was warming up on the range before the round. I blocked it on the first attempt but I saw that as a good sign since it wasn’t a slice. Second try was gold. It’d been a while since I hit a draw with real distance. Out of the next dozen shots, about 8 went exactly where I wanted with the shape I wanted. Decided to try it during my round and even my playing partner was impressed. I hit 11 of 14 fairways - and I NEVER do that. This technique will now be a permanent part if my swing. Thanks Alex!
Alex your the man, I’ve been watching golf instructors for a long time on RUclips and your channel is the best. I love the way you break it all down and make it easy to understand. I’m a 68 year old golfer off 10 handicap who is still tiring improve his game. Many thanks.
This video feels like you’ve been watching me for the past month. Normally my driver is my go-to club but lately I simply cannot get off the teebox for the exact reasons you explained in the first minute and a half. I’m a 6’5” ex collegiate quarterback. I can crush a driver. A 7 handicap in the worst slump of my life shooting upper 80’s solely because of the teebox. I continue getting better at every other aspect of the game but the driver alone has been keeping me from consistently shooting upper 70’s. I had 9 drops off the teebox yesterday and shot an 87. Man I needed this video bad.
Alex, I was at the range today and hit some of the longest and straightest shots I have ever hit! I have been jumping between your videos, Rick Shiels and a few golf coaches and sort of mix-matched advice. I have managed to elongate my backswing by focusing on keeping my head steady while making my left shoulder meet my chin. I also tried keeping my right elbow tucked a little more to force me to come from the inside to outside as I have always had a terrible slice! I also made sure to begin an exhale before beginning my backswing (breathing seems to make or break my shot most of the time! Might be psychological but if I dont take a deep inhale and then exhale till around halfway before beginning my swing, everything just seems to fall to pieces). All of this and then changing my grip from interlock to baseball to allow me to turn my right hand just a little more towards the left in the grip has not just helped me hit irons and wedges straight or even slightly right to left, but has also increased my distance on these clubs considerably! I hit 9 iron consistently around 150-ish and was hitting 5 iron consistently over 200 to 210! The only part of my long game failing me is my driving. I crushed two straight drives, one went a total of 302 yds! But almost every other was that horrible slice I was seeing in all of my shots just a week ago... I am going to try this the next time I'm at the range and, if you have fixed my driver issues, I'll be sure to let you know mate! I honestly want just straight consistent shots and dont really care for distance but when you absolutely crush shots like I did today, boy does it feel good! I had people in the bays beside me asking how I was hitting a PW over 100yds so easily and why I was hitting 9 iron further than most of their long iron shots 😂 Cant believe YT videos changed my shots so considerably and so quickly! Thanks for all your help and keep up the great work!
I used yesterday's tip on moving your back foot back to encourage a divot and within 10 minutes I was making constant contact and taking a divot every time. AMAZING AND THANX.... this new exercise is an extension of that drill and I am sure that it will work well when I play today
I tried this ftip on Saturday 7/1/23 and shot the best 9hole score to date... 41... This tip works and trust me I'll be doing this for a long long long time... Thanks alex
Alex, fantastic lesson. Your lessons have helped me out tremendously! The one problem I have is that your online video lessons are always booked up, which is great for you , but not for little old me. So I will leave you with a pity song....There's a place for me...somewhere a place for me😢😢😢😢😢😢
I think every since I purchased a newer style driver in 2020 that I've been struggling with consistency. One thing that would be beneficial to your subscribers including myself is "How to setup address with Driver." I have searched and do not see anyone actually show it until you did recently by showing how to hit a straiter shot by setting the face at 11:58 while you hold it in front of you. That was an aha moment for me because I have been in that trench for awhile. You see with the newer drivers I would always sole the club on the ground according to the bottom. Like we do with our irons. The only problem, many times the face is wide open to path and a huge slice puts trouble in the way most times. To hit it straighter, I had an inside to out swing but I really had to force my hands away to maintain a path to allow the face to close. Sonow I play a PXG Gen5 10.5 degree and it is much better. What got me to thinking about how I hold the club is I want to check the setup on the Gen 5 Driver at the PXG location near me. During the session changes were made but in the end it was set at factory position. The PXG analyst keep saying my swing was inside to out and face was open. I would sole the club, get the grip, check alignment, verify the club face, but hit a 50 yard or larger slice many times. So I do what you showed with squaring the face while looking at the club horizontally. Driving is much better. I am going to give it a go at setting the face a bit closed as you mentioned and see if I can get the ball to draw bit. I was able to hit one awhile back. I also hit DOD twice recently and was surprised at the results. That is only when the lie is perfect for the shot in my case. Keep up the good work. I also check you new station for golf news.
Brilliant suggested thank you! I will do this for sure. I’m glad the videos are helping you, ah thanks so much for checking out my second channel, really grateful!
Major improvement a couple months ago when I threw out everything I had been told for decades about turning shoulders and turning hips and trying to time it all perfectly. Now my entire backswing and move to the ball is controlled by my trail hip moving back and my shoulders naturally follow, and my lead hip starting the the move back to the ball by moving back. It is all weight transfer from hip to hip and my arms stay loose and naturally lag a bit behind the hips. It is so easy and natural.
The videos are great. Easy to follow without complexity which golf can project. Interpretation is everything in this game. Ocaams Razor. Simple explanations for what some may see as complicated actions.
Wow I did the toe stance with your irons a few days ago and that worked and now you have a driver drill .. I'm going to practice that rt now cuz I struggle with my driver alot..hook or slice..ty for everything you do to help us golfers out..Alex you are the man..ty again
Thank you for another very helpful video. I use that stance for my driver & it works well. CAN YOU USE IT FOR FAIRWAY WOODS, HYBRIDS & IRONS? I WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL IF YOU WOULD ANSWER MY QUESTION. I find your tips very useful to improve my game.
Just coming on board as a subscriber. These videos are fantastic for fixing some of the weird things that most of us have trouble with. Simple, practical advice for specific items. Really great, applicable advice.
i've been to driving range tonight and found putting my feet like that really helped my drive straighter. instead of slicing them. brliiant, i was well pleased. couple of hours later i seen this. guys it works great. need to find a nice balance though. right foot to far back and i was pulling left. to level and a small slice started to appear.
Thanks for the tip will have to check it out! My golf coach tells me that my hips sway to much on my take away which I find very difficult so this tip might help and yes I have a slice and contact issue thanks and please keep them coming
Took your tip out onto the course today. Avg driver for me is 210 yrds and maybe 4 or 5 fairways hit per round. Today, avg driving distance was 237 and hit 12 of 14 fairways. Cannot thank you enough from Bham AL USA. Regards, Mac
ALEX you are a legend bruv Ive gone from sliceymoto to not so much sliceymoto!!! Epic appreciate your content and not wanting to wrap my golf clubs around trees anymore 😂🤣🙏 Happy NZ starter golfer!!!
I have been hitting like this for many years. Despite taking classes with a tour pro coach to “correct” my swing, I have never been consistent until I come back to this method.
Request: I carry a lot of hybrids in my bag, including 9H thru 3H. Almost all instruction videos focus on how to hit longest hybrids only. Have seen comments that “you should swing short hybrids like your irons”. Can you do a video on how to to swing shorter and mid hybrids without comparing to irons? Thank you very much!
Looks great Alex and will try on the driving range. Does your backswing change as part of this drill? For example, do you still imagine if there was a golf ball behind the club head, the golf ball would go straight back? Thanks
Love the videos you put out mate I have a question for you I play off 27 and shot the best round the other day with a 9 over but seriously struggle with my driver with a slice would the video help I don’t know if I come over the top on my swing or the club face is open at impact and suggestions please 🙏
Hi Alex, I only have access to mats at the driving ranges around me. Can you give some tips on how to improve my iron contact when I don’t get any grass interaction? I feel I hit it fat when I go to playing a normal round. Thanks!
Thanks to your videos I’m hitting driver straighter than I ever have. Can you do a video of starting your hips forward before you reach the top of your back swing. I’ve been doing this and just bombing the ball 250yds +. Cheers!
This has been the missing bit for me - pulling my right foot back a bit has straightened the drive massively combined with a few other ideas Alex has produced videos on - grip and setting up the clubhead centre just inside the centre of the ball. Many thanks.
Alex, thank you for the video. I tried it tonight and worked 85% of the time. I still need to practice with it. I play TSI to Driver at 10° on the minimalist draw setting. Do you suggest that I go back to neutral or can I leave it in the setting I’m in?
The longest carry, across water and up to the flat part of the fairway on hole #13 on my home course requires my maximum driving distance. I’ve have used this setup and have experienced the needed carry. I don’t have confidence with it on narrow fairways with OB on the right and line of punishing pine trees down the left of the fairway. My miss with the setup is a powerful blast straight left of the tee. Not sure if my shoulders are wrong at setup or if I’m trying to avoid the OB right so much I just over compensate. Gets me in trouble. Trying to find a safe shot. I’ve tried 3 wood. Next step: another fairway wood
Hey Alex, I really enjoy all your content. I would really love to know how to hit a stinger shot regularly with irons and woods. I love hitting them, but I can't figure out what I'm doing to hit them in the first place. Thanks, Mike
What do you mean by stinger? I was at the range today and was absolutely rattling my iron shots. Got great right to left swerve for the first ever time and hit my PW 120 yards, 9 iron 150 yards avg and 5 iron was over 210 almost every time! Not sure if this is what you mean by stinger shots (hitting the ball perfectly with lots of power?) but this is the first time I have ever been able to do this and it's all down to YT videos... Stopped moving my head towards my shoulder and instead focused on my left shoulder coming to meet my chin, focused my eyesight just ahead of the ball and changed my grip from interlock to baseball to allow me to close my right hand that bit better. I have always had a bit of a slice in my shots but when I did these 3 things, coupled with beginning back swing around half way through an exhale, everything just launched either dead straight or slightly right to left down the middle... My drives were a bit of a hit or a miss though, sliced most but hit one drive 280 and another 302 total according to the trackman devices they have... Let me know if any of these things I have mentioned help you and if I was right in thinking this is what you meant by stingers?
Yep...yep...yep. Two days on the range...results too good to be true. Every club in the bag. Today...nine holes playing 5 balls a hole tee to green. Again...unbelievable. I feel like John McEnroe playing side saddle. Ball striking was really improved. Thank you Alex. Quite an epiphany. I wonder what will happen if I go back to standard setup.
Thank you for another great video. I am mentally struggling to hit off the tee almost every round now. How do I get over that anxiety and calm myself down?
Loving your videos alex. Your wedge shot video your posted during your wedge giveaway has helped me drop 5 shots from a round due to the consistency I am chipping onto the green and going close to the pin almost every time, my putting average has dropped like a bomb due to consistently going close around the green since I started standing closer to the ball with a more upright club. I’ve found that tip works best with an 8 iron chip and run from varying distances around the green. Will definitely try this tip down the range as while I’ve calmed my slice down more to a fade it’s still a struggle and the slice rears it’s ugly head every 3-4 drives 😡 Top man. Thanks 👌🏻
Brilliant about the wedges! That’s so good to hear. Just keep at it and you will improve for sure, and also thanks for tuning into the videos. Sounds like you are a regular viewer.. so thanks!!
@@AlexElliottGolf What wedge video is he referring to. This video was gold! Extreme gold. I spent the last two days at the range hitting every club with my right foot back and the results were rather amazing. I wonder if this will work on the course as well. Wedge video?
12 days ago “96% of golfers get this wrong’ video. Have had 3 rounds since then and have dropped 5 shots at least dropping my putting average to 1.7 as a result of going much closer chipping onto the green
I try and align my direction using my feet as well as shoulders, for this I suppose align first then pull back the right foot until it is lace high with left foot. It looks like your left foot also turns a bit to the left rather than be at right angles to the intended direction?
I watched a 30 second Faldo video about a year ago and this is exactly what he recommended and you will have a far larger percentage of straight shots. And it works well fo me anyway. Brilliant. But there is a downside to it. You will sacrifice a little distance by the hip restriction but not that much. According to Nick Faldo.
Is this the same as setting up with a draw stance? If I hook the ball, should I just reverse this and have the front foot behind the back foot in a fade stance?
Hey Alex, so do shoulders point out to the right along feet line or do they stay square to ball to target line ? Club face square to target or pointing out to the right ?
I start out the round hitting the driver good, but usually I start struggling with it by the 2nd nine and completing the backswing with a good transition becomes almost impossible. If you could do a video on a solution for that, it would hopefully help.
What's funny about this video, is I had a lesson with my favorite local PGA pro this weekend, and this is exactly what he had me working on to stop sky-ing my 3 wood.
Hey Alex! So I can do this well when I put my footback, but how do I eventually get back to my normal stance to do this? Or Should I just not anymore?"
Do you recommend this as solely a drill, or as a decent way to swing? Im a new golfer. I recently started hitting like this due to theory: at strike position when my balance transfers from foot to foot, I want that line of balance to be aiming towards the target [from toe to heelside arch to pin]. I became immediately more accurate with this method. But I know it's not standard. Someone else mentioned power loss. How much power loss is there, assuming you hit the ball perfectly?
Hi alex could you please please 🙏 do a video on how to get distance from the bunker it doesn't matter if I use a 50.54.58 I get no distance and if I use a 5 iron upwards I always catch the lip, cant find any imforation on this would love your input thanks for your content 😊
Could you please address the reasons to why you SHANK the golf ball. I will always have a hole on a round where the shank comes into my game and ive no idea how to correct it because i dont know what im doing wrong. please help!
I’m no expert but it sounds like you’re swaying. You could put your feet together and do half shots. Then once that’s ok put a penny about 3 inches behind the ball. The objective is to hit the ball but not he penny. Also, get someone to film you front on. You may see yourself swaying.
Hi do you keep club face square to target and start swing back on inside or straight back on target line still feel like your hitting up on the ball? Like subscriptions 😀😃 Vince
Nothing "weird" or new here Alex, Hogan recommended a closed stance decades ago. As a former slicer it gets me straight or drawing 9/10, unless I lose balance.
@ 4:05 you tee up a ball that I cannot see with my colorblind eyes.🤣A white or yellow ball I can see. This ball is likely red or orange or green. IDK, hahaha.
*IT JUST locks of your hips and gets your right in that slot!*

Gets me in trouble. Trying to find a safe shot. I’ve tried 3 wood. Next step: another fairway wood
Hi Alex. What are your thoughts on using the adjustments on the modern drivers to overcome a slice? Or are you better working on the cause first.
I defo think use everything that you can to help you but the help is only small. there is a limit to how much you can move the clubs centre of gravity
Does your club face pointing to the target line or the closed direction of your shoulder / hip line (closed)?
Can this be implemented with irons as well or not?
Thank you for another great video. I am mentally struggling to hit off the tee almost every round now. How do I get over that anxiety and calm myself down?
Iv been doing this for my last 3 rounds, amazingly does help as i cannot hit a full swing due to.mobility problems in my shoulders
Great video again. many thanks but can you fix the sound? It's only on one channel. 👍
Will definitely try this tip down the range as while I’ve calmed my slice down more to a fade it’s still a struggle and the slice rears it’s ugly head every 3-4 drives 😡
Top man.
Which wedge video is that Steve? This video was gold on the range!
Does this work with the 3 wood as well?
Can you use this method for hitting iron to
I watched a 30 second Faldo video about a year ago and this is exactly what he recommended and you will have a far larger percentage of straight shots. And it works well fo me anyway. Brilliant. But there is a downside to it. You will sacrifice a little distance by the hip restriction but not that much. According to Nick Faldo.
Alex, would that stance work in the opposite for a dog-leg right fairway (right hander)?
Is this the same as setting up with a draw stance? If I hook the ball, should I just reverse this and have the front foot behind the back foot in a fade stance?
Hey Alex, so do shoulders point out to the right along feet line or do they stay square to ball to target line ?
Club face square to target or pointing out to the right ?
square to target line!
Cool thanks ❤
I start out the round hitting the driver good, but usually I start struggling with it by the 2nd nine and completing the backswing with a good transition becomes almost impossible. If you could do a video on a solution for that, it would hopefully help.
Hi Alex, I’ve been told not to fix a fault by introducing another one. What’s your thoughts on this pls?
What's funny about this video, is I had a lesson with my favorite local PGA pro this weekend, and this is exactly what he had me working on to stop sky-ing my 3 wood.
Hey Alex! So I can do this well when I put my footback, but how do I eventually get back to my normal stance to do this? Or Should I just not anymore?"
I personally prefer to use this, but you can use your natural stance too; it just depends which one works best
Does this tip apply to irons as well?
yeah
Noted! Keep your eyes on the channel; i film quite far in advance so will be on the channel in the next 2 weeks
I've been opening my left foot at set up with my right foot even with my shoulder. When using this method do I keep my left foot open?
Your the man brother!
Thank you 🙏🏼
Is it possible to use a shot tracer?
Yeah.. annoyingly it wouldn’t work because of the camera this time but i usually use it
Could you please address the reasons to why you SHANK the golf ball. I will always have a hole on a round where the shank comes into my game and ive no idea how to correct it because i dont know what im doing wrong. please help!
Do you hit irons with this stance too?
You can give it a go for sure !
Shoulder/Hip and clubface alignment?
yeh
Any ideas to avoid drop kicking driver?
I’m no expert but it sounds like you’re swaying. You could put your feet together and do half shots. Then once that’s ok put a penny about 3 inches behind the ball. The objective is to hit the ball but not he penny. Also, get someone to film you front on. You may see yourself swaying.
@@timdench2583 Cheers for this. It's an odd one as it just seems to come from nowhere. Good thing the rest of my game is impeccable 🤣🤣
When you say far away, you mean the hands or club head?
Hey Alex can I hit those same shots with my irons and my fairway woods? My name is Kevin I'm from Detroit Michigan.
Yeah, and thanks for tuning in!!
This works, been doing it for years. Almost impossible to slice. I just try and visualise swinging across my toe line
Hi do you keep club face square to target and start swing back on inside or straight back on target line still feel like your hitting up on the ball?
Like subscriptions 😀😃
Vince
Watch the video yesterday went to the golf course today 75% straight drives. Even hit one about twenty yards longer
love to hear that!!!!
Looks like ball went right? Can you use the redline tracker for ball direction next time
It went straight, and Yeah course i couldn’t do it this time, the software wasn’t playing ball annoyingly!
I align my feet that way but the toe of my driver is setup inside of the ball. I hit the center of the clubface a lot better.
Is anyone using this on their irons?
Nothing "weird" or new here Alex, Hogan recommended a closed stance decades ago. As a former slicer it gets me straight or drawing 9/10, unless I lose balance.
As the late great tina turner said "simply the best, better than all the rest".
🙏🏼 hahaha I hope it helps Kevin!!
The sound on this video is panned all the way to the left
yeah
Sorry about that
Ball tracking would help me
LOL, that foot position is exactly how one of the most famous golfer of the 60's book says. Ben Hogan.
I know you've warned us. I had a bogus "you've won" come today. Be aware everyone.
Another great drill to Alex.👍👍
Please be vigilant!!
Looks a lot like swing I use by Jim Venetos. Took a while but dialing it in
Are your hips and shoulders aimed slightly right or square to target like clubface?
Drop my right foot back a couple of inches on all my clubs and always works
Alex why isn’t there any sound
I think it may be switch off on youtube itself
I think you need to make sure your shoulders are still lined up with the target
@ 4:05 you tee up a ball that I cannot see with my colorblind eyes.🤣A white or yellow ball I can see. This ball is likely red or orange or green. IDK, hahaha.
Haha sorry yes it is a very brightly coloured ball
The ball you’re referring to is red
Evening
Good evenjng
but with that close stance you set up always for a draw
You just told us to point our feet out?
