Alex you made a video a while back that was essentially showing how to swing driver like you’re hitting it 50yds, then 100yds, and so on a so forth … do you remember the name of that video and where I can find it?
Hi Alex, I love your progressions in all your drills. I was a Elite tennis teaching professional with the USPTA for over 40 years. You are one of the few golf pro instructors that use (stages) progressions in a real easy way for students to follow. Good for you and thanks for making golf easier to learn. Ted Sayrahder / Retired tennis teaching Professional , Seattle, Wa.
I was also a USPTA coach (not elite) and that is exactly my thought too .. the reason I went with USPTA as a Brit was the progression method of coaching .. good point
Alex Im 70 and I have had many lessons etc over the last 40 years. You are by Far the most amazing coach ive seen. thank you so much for all that you do for us Duffers ! God Bless You
Alex, your instructional videos are great. Thanks a bunch. I use your 'tee-in-the-butt-of-the-grip' drill everyday. It keeps the club pointing at me. My consistency is now amazing. I hit the ball more solidly. That drill also cured my back issues, which have plagued me for years. No more back pain. I believe my swing was getting in bad place, and then I was trying to correct on the downswing using a funky back twist. I had pain after hitting only about 15 balls. Now it is completely gone. I will incorporate taking the club back low as per this video. An oldtimer told me to do that 50 years ago, but I forgot, LOL.
I've been playing golf for only 3 years, but like many of us here I absolutely love it and I have watched and searched many different golf videos on RUclips. You are the only I've seen explain everything in such a simple and easy-to-follow format. There are too many videos out there that get so dang complicated that you get lost in all of it. However, I have yet to get lost or confused in your videos. From a beginning golfer, I thank you very much!
Have to tell you that I watched the video this morning and then went to golf. I am a 75 y/o lady who is always looking for ways to improve my game. I have quite bad arthritis in both hands, which often results in me losing control of the club. Today I hit a bucket of balls with the video and was quite pleased with the straight shots with distance. I then played and often found that I had some wonderful shots with your suggestion. Now, if onlly I could get the wedges to work as well lol lol. Thanks for taking the time to do these videos.
I have been struggling with compressing my strike and took a lesson yesterday to get it worked out. Well I was not square to the ball and direction whatsoever and was offo by 30 degrees. After a correction to shoulders and hips, refined grip and proper distance to the ball, everything came together so nicely and feel much more confident now. This would be a great video for everyone Thanx for all of the instruction
Fitting will also help greatly with dispersion. After a few videos about lie angle, I concluded my clubs were too flat. Had 7-GW bent just 1 degree upright. Amazing. Played 2 rounds in the 80's the next two days. 7 greens in reg each round, and 4-5 more within 5 yards of the green, hitting greens on par 3's from the teebox, and only one 3 putt because my approaches were better.
Great tip Alex. I’m in this camp where my striking is good but direction is sometimes erratic. This is a drill that I’ve been looking for. Will be trying this one for sure.
I am working on this now. I am playing just about all irons in the middle of the stance. Long irons slightly past it. The key is though, you have to keep your weight from shifting left before you hit it. Or you will be pushing it or hooking it. Badly.
I have been using this for a while now myself, I got this tip from my very patient golf coach and friend, Kees, little different approach because of my physicality, for me, it was dropping my left shoulder towards the ball, bingo, As I am disabled in both arms, all my swing comes from my body, Right arm 75% paralyzed, nerve-damaged, left arm, fixed wrist, pin in ulnar, rebuilt elbow. That's (some of) my other handicap, my golf handicap is now down to 8 and I am 60.
Hi Alex, thanks for your great videos. Your my favourite instructor on RUclips. I'm really hoping you can help me understand the follow through to finish including avoiding any chicken wing arm separation. I don't seem to have a style of finish although I hit lots of good shots in a round. Sometimes my fairway woods/hybrids leak right and I feel my elbows get far apart!
I've been really struggling with fatting my scoring irons. I believe this tip will sort me out. I'm taking it to the driving range tomorrow. Thanks as always!
Take that Hogan body swing to the course, it will always serve you well. Useful drills to make sure the body is doing the turning, taking the arms and hands out of the way, let them follow along. Really works.
Alex ty again for a fantastic tips I love watching your videos I did the iron tip and it worked and I did the driver tip the other day and that worked I just keep practicing it and can't wait to take it to the golf course I'll practice this tip aswell ty for everything you do.
Thank you for all your videos they are so helpful. I have a question when I’m in a bunker I’m having trouble getting underneath it either over power it out or under power
Good tips. I find i drive awesome and hit woods very well too. Once i do, my iron swing suffers. Once i get my iron swing down, my driver/woods suffers🙃
The stage two process is something I unfortunately do often and often causes a club drag catch on the grass behind the ball. Sometimes I can channel my inner tiger and step off but most of the time, I complete swing with a mistiming. What’s a good fix for that? Great video
Hi Alex, I wonder if you have a drill for a guy who has golfed for 45 years and I have ingrained the notion of trying to hit the back of the ball rather than swinging through the ball and compressing it. As a result, my best shots are when I bottom out right at the ball and pick it clean rather than bottoming out beyond the ball and hitting it higher on the club face. My misses therefore are both fat and thin. I have tried drill after drill, but my eye sees the ball as the target rather than three inches in front of the ball as the target. Ideas?
@AlexElliottGolf I'm having trouble with my grip. Any advice on how to make the lead hand feel comfortable when using the 2-3 knuckle(strong) grip. It's feels like it want to go into the palm all the time. I adjust it 3 time before I can swing
Hi Alex, during my practice swing I keep my arms straight and swing smoothly, but during the real swing I use too much force and bend my arms (chickenwing). Regards Giel.
Thank you, Alex. I've been working on creating shaft-lean, but I feel like I'm sacrificing speed on the release. Can you please do a video on ball striking incorporating shaft-lean AND release?
One thing that helped me the other day was to have my takeaway on a path that would return the club back to the ball on how I wanted to strike it. It was like a little 3-4foot waggle back and forth a few times. and then fire. Normally only hit 3-4 GIRs. The other day I hit 10. Another went through the green,
My take away is flawless it's my move back to the ball that things break down I don't know if it's not clearing my hips completely or releasing my hands at the right time
My seven, eight and nine irons are deadly accurate even if I don't get the distance I always want but I cannot hit my five or six iron at all. Any tips for my longer irons?
Hi Alex I like your contents, and they have help immensely, however I need your assistance with which iron clubs should I be looking at. I currently have Cleveland CXB. never wanted these clubs but sale pressure from fitter fitted me with them, when I wanted was the Srixon 545 irons. Today I hit my worst score since I was a beginner at The Glades at Gold Coast in Queensland Australia. I am sixty six years young. I definitely need graphite shafts, but which brand of irons should I be looking for? My Handicap is 27.8 Do you have any suggestion? I am looking at purchasing a new set of irons. I desperately want to get to my old handicap of 18. Flavio
When you say the club face should be square, square to what? Are you saying its not good to keep the club face slightly closed during the initial backswing?
Thanks Alex... I'll give those drills a try. By the way, I am president and founder of the 2 first names club of America and you are definitely a member of this club. I've been correcting folks who reverse my name my entire life, so I'm used to it. Have you ever been referred to as Elliott instead of Alex? If so, then you know what I mean. Have a great day and thanks for answering my question. I can't wait to try the drills and hopefully see some improvement.
Another great video! I've noticed my major issue is keeping my top arm straight in the back swing and I think this has to do with a past surgery from pitching in baseball. (Yes, weird but I throw lefty and play golf/hockey righty). Any drills or techniques to work on training the lead arm to stay straight throughout the swing? Thanks, Brian; around 3 years playing golf
Hey Alex. I have played for over 20 years. My biggest problem is keeping my head down and actually seeing the club hit the ball. I'm a 9 handicap. I feel I can be so much better. Can you help?
Love the instruction but the one thing nobody covers is the trigger for the down swing. So when does it start Alex or is it different for everyone, I see this as the most important part of the swing as its the transition to impact that is all important to get right.
Hi Alex, literally just subscribed but spent the last hour watching your videos. I’ve only just started playing golf, only been to the range a few times. I’m a left handed player and constantly hit a slice with the driver and find the rhythm of the swing a bit of a struggle. Any tips?🙏
I had some serious injury concerns over the last two years. I didn't get to play for that length of time.i have built my game back and I an hitting well at the range, but not on the course. How do I bring my game from the range to the course. I was a 6 handicap who played once a week and practiced once a month. It's reversed now. Please help, I feel embarrassed.
I know this is a weird question but I am having a huge time seeing my ball after I hit it. Actually it is preventing me from wanting to go out by myself. Any tips for this issue? Thank you for everything!
Hello, Alex. I’m 71yo, a 25 handicapper. Any thoughts as to why I hit my used Taylormade 5 wood off the tee at least as far or even farther than my new Stealth $600 driver? Both top out at 210-215 yards. Thanks.
Love ❤️ I’d love too get back too my golf. I used too have an 8 handicap ( without lessons ).I’ve had three change my golf swing after every surgery, at the moment that stands at 20. What’s the best way too get started again, oh and two Back surgeries, 4 shoulder surgeries and Yeo elbow surgeries. I’ve hit some half decent shots. But I just need pointing in the right direction. The club pull back drill is great for indoors!
Loving these great tips for all handicappers, I’m playing off 7 and the driver tip was amazing. Hitting the ball a lot straighter. Fantastic 👍🏻👏🏻
Good video. Nothing more important than set up and take away.
Good stuff Alex! Thank you!
Love this drill. It has helped me so much. Can do it right before I tee off to get the right feeling
Thanks for sharing this I will be trying this next time at driving range.

I have the exact opposite problem. I'm inconsistent at striking the ball. My good strikes are a consistent tight draw.
I’ve had some success actually dragging the club on the ground for about a foot at the beginning of my backswing

Only the 3 foot path before and after the ball matters. If you can get the club into the same slot in that path you’ll hit good shots.
