Candle tunneling is a common problem that occurs due to improper burning techniques. This video will explain how to avoid tunneling, which occurs when the candle has not melted all the way to the edge. When the wax solidifies, it leaves an indentation that appears like a (tunnel) after repeated burns. To avoid tunneling, make sure that the wax has melted across the whole diameter of the candle on the first burn. The first time you burn the candle sets the stage for the life of the candle. The size of the wax pool on the initial burn will be the size of the opening from there on. For example: If you only burn the candle for an hour and have a small wax pool, the dry hard wax around the outside edge will almost never burn.

Just found your channel. I loved the video. Very helpful. I make candle for myself. I could never solve that problem. What kind of wick do you use. It confuses me when it comes to wicks.

Ok. So you are saying “the first burn is always the deepest so light it and let it burn until the entire top part of wax melts down evenly so that then you have settled wax and it will not tunnel”. Correct? You should have said it in the first place. In fact, you never really explained it.
