Sub Up, Port Back, Kerfed Slot Port Stained Plywood Subwoofer Box

  • The very long awaited build by many is finally live and direct! The double baffled plywood top mounted subwoofer box with kerfed L ports and kerfed front baffle. Made out of a very expensive Santa Clara marine plywood, exclusively sold at Wilcon Home Depot.
    This is a single 12 inch enclosure for the huge Category 7 CSW12-1K XMAX subwoofer! The magnet of this subwoofer is literally almost the diameter of the cutout and weighs about 20 kilos. This enclosure features a kerfed port, and another kerf on the front panel corner, double layered baffle including flush mount, and a beautiful custom dark stain.
    If you are interested about the box dimensions, head to this link to TinkerCad schematics: www.tinkercad....
    Finished the box with very dark oak oil wood stain and topped it off with polyurethane varnish to protect the subwoofer enclosure from all kinds of elements.
    I am glad I hit the appropriate final tuning and impedance for the box which is 30.24Hz @ 1.51 Ohms on the Dayton Audio DATS v3 and has an acceptable effective bandwidth of 23Hz to 46Hz range.
    All panels were screwed down the pocket holes for the upper panel to make them invisible. Lower panel is screwed the traditional way because no one can see the screw heads down below the box.
    Assembly time and here goes lugging the very heavy Category 7 CSW12-1K XMAX! The monster of a subwoofer weighs about 20 kilograms, yes that heavy.
    I think that is all for today's little show and I hope you all like this project. Let me know what you think by commenting down in the comment section. Thanks and have a nice weekend to all of you.

      Solid clean work. If your building boxes and don't have a Router, Brad nailer or a table saw to some degree.......your an average subwoofer enclosure builder. I'm not into the Kreig mounting system. Each to there own on that. Also if you have years of fiberglass & resin application under your belt, your a serious enclosure artist. You built that box way beyond any typical subwoofer xmax can dish out.....unless your running a prototype sub that takes 8-10K watts rms.

    And would love a new box for my sub, just don’t know how I’m gonna get it in the box and not crush my fingers. That’s no baby sized woofer but my deaf bonce 3515 is 70pounds and if I decide to get the 4515, that damn sub is 132pounds!! Why 😂 need more neo motors, 132 pounds for a single sub that isn’t 24inches or larger is crazy

      Hello Sir Adam. Thanks for noticing. Two peaks actually read the effective bandwidth which is 23-47Hz, which is actually a poor range. This is cause to cheap and unenhanced drivers like such. Good range reads between 18-60Hz, which Sundown, B2, DD, DC and such expensive drivers do.

      @@chrclmnky yeah man I look at all of that stuff you do on your test. I appreciate the content. 90's car audio is when I started playing with amps and woofers.. I'm sure you looked at the box when u did the layout on bass box pro or the platform u used to build the box and port. Did it show the frequency peaks and roll off on the software u use?

    • @chrclmnky
      @chrclmnky  3 года назад +1

      @@adam_1dizon121 Yes everything is predetermined on the software and there is about +/- 5-15% difference on the actual output. My first priority is the owner's preferred box dimension per vehicle's available space. And from there, I'll calculate to whatever nicest results. I'll spend about 48 hours with Bass Box Pro 6, DATS v3 and TinkerCad just to get the most acceptable box for a particular subwoofer.

    😎 bad ass. Do you use stainless bolts for your terminal posts? Wasn’t sure what conducts the best when selecting the bolts.

      Hello Tony, thanks for the feedback. The best bolts would be copper, for the purists.. But stainless will just do fine in most cases.
