    I was there and watched this bracket and 1 of these teams. The vid does not really do justice to how good these guys really are .... the paddle quickness and the age deserve the earned respect.

    For peat sakes these Guys are 70 years old! Most people 70+ have hip mobility issues or issues even lightly running. This is for sure 5.0 at there age

      I'm 72 and you're full of shit. I'm a tennis player and beat guys younger and better than these guys all the time and I'm not very good at pickleball. Can barely keep score. My weapon is my tennis style. I play shit ball and can mix it up and drive people crazy. These guys are classic whackers.

    Wow. Excellent mobility and fast hands at the kitchen for 70+. The put-aways are a bit weak and that prolonged quite a few rallies but that's being overly critical and it did increase the entertainment value of the match. Well done players!

    Guy is on the winning team in the white shirt. best overall hands I have seen over 70. The eye hand coordination is beyond great.

    Here is a slightly different take on the skill level debate for everyone who says this is not 5.0 and they are better. An argument based solely on reasoning and deduction, not based on any expertise about pickleball. This is not a video of some random guys playing saying they are 70+ 5.0. It is not a local tournament in middle of nowhere where there are no good players. This is from the US Open. Do you really think that all of the real 70+ 5.0 players such as yourselves just didn’t enter the draw and so they just let whoever showed up saying they were 5.0 get to play in this division in such a major tournament? If so, make sure you all play in the US open next year. I would guess it’s more likely the case that these are 70+ 5.0 players.

    White Shirt was the difference maker. Excellent defense, very good drops and resets. Grey shirt had a tough serve, too; he got a handful of free points.
    Red/Blue made a good game of it by switching to more drops on the 3rds. In Game 1 they drove most of the 3rds, which wasn't working. (Shows good awareness to change your tactics mid-match.)

    5.0 PB should be 5.0 PB regardless of age. This was NOT 5.0 PB.

      Wondering if skill level is a "badge for life", or does it need re-evaluating over time based on game performance (such as tennis rankings)?

    • @russjohnson6378
      @russjohnson6378 Год назад +6

      The issue is the age brackets. If you play in an age bracket, in this case 70+, and you keep winning, your UTPR/WPR/DUPR score keeps increasing. So the 5.0 skill level of an age bracket represents the best players in that age bracket. If you played in skill brackets without regard to age (and they do have these), then 5.0 would be 5.0 regardless of age. This is what the pros do. They play in the pro skill bracket. And anyone, regardless of age, can play in that bracket if they have the skill. But it's nice having the age brackets for amateurs. Just don't expect them to represent true skill levels.

      just about all of these posts have over-rated DUPRs. It may be that the max DUPR for the tournament is a 5.0

      They aren't listed because we are recording dozens of matches and unfortunately don't have time to look up names. PickleballTournaments.com lists all player names and what they won. Thanks for watching!

    too many unforced errors to be 5+ players. Decent play for someone in their 70's for sure for sure top 1-2% of players that age. Question though is the 7 pt scale supposed to be age adjusted or not. My guess is these players would lose to most 4+ players under the age of 50.
