Very helpful video. My 9340 cdw needed a new fuser and this really helped with the installation process. Now my HL 1440 needs one so here we go again. Not afraid to do it after watching your video.
I wish I could like this a bajillion times. I found this video while trying to find out why my printer was printing ghost images and crinkling the paper. Anyway, I ordered a new fuser and watched this video again and now I have my printer back. THANK YOU!!!!
Many thanks Matthew - helped me get the fuser unit out of my HL-3140CW to remove the scorched paper tightly wrapped around the fuser. Printer working again, but I think I probably need a new fuser! [ FYI once you have the fuser unit out - there is a guard fitted over it thats easily removable with 2 screws that gives much better access to the fuser. ]
Worked a treat. i had to re-seat mine about three times and make sure the thin tiny cords of the two unplugged electronic controller wires were not in the way on reassembly. Otherwise i got wrinkled paper and a jam and a 'rear door not closed' error, respectively. But thanks for the detailed instructions and helping others not to add to e-waste.
Thanks Matthew, This was exactly the step-by-step guide I needed to replace my fuser roller! I'm sure I would have messed it up if I hadn't watched this video.
Did the fuser replacement, and it went well; but now I have a "Paper Jam" error. I've checked the wiring and it's not in the way, yet constant "paper jam". There's no paper in the unit. Any suggestions?
NEVER use canned air on laser printers. Toner is hazardous waste and can cause major health problems if inhaled. Always use a toner vacuum and not canned air.
Matthew, I have a HP2140 When I turn it on, there is no motor noise and the 3 flashing lights. I bought a new cartridge for it, but still nothing. Any idea what is going on with it? Do these have fuses or power blocks?? Please advise. Love your video, very informative..
Sorry I am just seeing your message now. Sometimes I miss the message alerts. I'm not sure what issue might cause the unit to not power up. I don't recall ever doing anything with a power supply to change out serviceable parts in the printer. Wish I could be of more help. Is your power cable good?
Thank you so much, Matthew, that's an excellent video, could you show us how to replace the fuser for Brother HL-5250DN, because my machine was jammed the paper on fuser.
What an awesome video! I think I can do this but am now wondering if I can just clean or replace the rollers (relatively cheap) or if I have to relace the actual fuser itself (expensive). My printer is "embossing" a random sort of pattern vertically down each page as well as dropping extra toner down that same stripe, about 1" wide. Any thoughts? BTW I just subscribed. You are very clear and easy to listen to, even for 19 minutes. :)
My fuser was torn so i had to replace it. I got a bad paper jam, pulled thebbn paper through and it ripped the fuser :/ I am not sure if they can be cleaned but nothing to loose. I used a light solvent such as high purity rubbing alcohol. It flashes off with minimal residue.
Hi Matthew, thank you for the excellent video. Which printer model did you take the fuser out of? I am having a hard time finding a fuser for my MFC9330CDW. Are there any other recent models that I would be able to get the fuser from and still be compatible? Thanks
Hi! Thanks for the video. I've just replaced my fuser, and it seemed to go pretty smoothly. But now my screen says "Remove Jammed Paper", ..... so I must have put something back together wrong, triggering a sensor. Any suggestions?
Hi, I've got a Brother 9200CDW, had it services and it needed a new fuser, fuser replaced but.... I now have a cover is open with the rear cover picture showing. The door closes fine, could it be one of t of the inner covers? Anyone got any ideas on how this can be resolved. The service was £105 + £124 for the fuser so I'm already in for a fair bit, calling someone out is my last option, please help?
I had a similar problem. You almost have to take it out like I did in the video and inspect it. Mine had a tear in the roller, it was causing the pages to wrinkle too. There's a static feed belt sort of thing under your toner cartridges. It pulls up when you remove all the cartridges. Perhaps that or the roller that pulls paper out of the tray. My experience was the fuser though. Once I looked at it it was clear to see it was wrinkling up my pages.
Awesome video, thanks! So I have the same problem you found, that black fuser roller is torn pretty badly, and the debris in there is leaving imprints on the paper. I don't really want to buy a whole new fuser unit, which is over $150, but saw that you can buy just the two rollers for $50. But how would I replace just that black roller within the assembly? Have you tried that?
@MatthewJeschke What is the model of Brother printer you purchased on Amazon used? I have the same MFC Brother printer as shown in this video. I tried cleaning the LEDs to try and eliminate the streaking on the print, to no avail. Thanks for the video!
excellent video, i have a mfc 9340 cdw and it is leaving imprints (bumps) on the page when printing, have you run across that before. It also says drum unit needs replacement.
Standard fuser roller failure i'm afraid - try the long slow stuff at ruclips.net/video/JR5Y9sBbTjY/видео.html etc for a proper answer. If you do it yourself be very careful when removing those little red & white connectors on the right hand side of the fuser . Very, very easy to cause them to seperate, given the very poor all too often "dry joint" soldering of these connections. Many vids blame the person removing it. I'd personally blame an appalling "cheap and nasty" design fault. :(
Great Video! Would the fuser be causing the printer to print the EXACT same thing 2 or 3 times over on the same page? For example, I had to print out a document and it printed it out and then it did it again and again (on the same page) for a total of 3 times so everything was scrambled and overlapping. It doesn't matter where I print from (laptop, mac, windows, google etc). The issue remains.
It's possible. My fuser had ripped. It repeated the same pattern (ripped portion of fuser) on every page. Maybe possible too your waste toner cartridge is full. That clears off the feed belt. If you have a dirty feed belt you could be getting residue from previous pages on next pages. if that makes since. Just a thought, I'm not an expert only a youtube tinkerer :)
Matthew - I just followed your video exact and my Brother HL-3170CDW still says to close the fuser that it is not closed and goes back and forth between "clear rear jam" error to the fuser error message. Could it be a sensor perhaps?
I'm sure you've tested all the screws and locks are secured? You may want to try and can of compressed air to clean the sensors that say when the fuser is closed.... I have personally tried to figure out where these sensors are with no luck. I think sometimes they go bad or at least the contacts are warn out. You can also if you know where they are at clean them up with pure rubbing alcohol.
Has anyone had this issue that after replacing the fuser you get an error message "2 sided printing disabled check back cover'? I went through all the troubleshooting steps but the problem remains and I can't print duplex, everything else works as normal

Amy where did you find a replacement fuser? I'm in the market and having some trouble finding replacement parts
Thank you for this video. It was all the instruction I needed to replace the fuser unit in my HL-3170CDW, and now I feel like a boss!
If I can ask you, where did you buy your fuser for your HL-3170CDW? I have this as well. Thanks.
Really long, yes, but also VERY thorough! Great job, and thanks!

Thanks for posting this video. I needed to clean off my fuser and it was very helpful to see how to get the fuser out and back in.
Thank you, your video help me assembling back my HL-3170CDW after I received a new fuser!
So glad I could be of help :) I've found these printers to be good workhorses but needs a LOT of maintenance attention as they get a bit older.
Perfect demonstration I really needed this thanks so much
I have the HL-3170 that you stole the fuser from. Just what I needed to see how to install my replacement fuser on mine. Thanks.
Where did you buy a replacement fuser? I have the same printer. Thanks.
What a great public service - Thank-you
Very helpful. Was able to change fuser myself. Less than half the price of a new printer
Thanks Matt. Very good video. No need to edit as you said. Great stuff.
Thanks for the tutorial! I own a 3150 that's staining the sheets. I'll try that out.
Thanks, got me through the replacement perfectly.
Great video !
Did the fuser replacement, and it went well; but now I have a "Paper Jam" error. I've checked the wiring and it's not in the way, yet constant "paper jam". There's no paper in the unit. Any suggestions?
Hrm, must be a limit switch somewhere that is tripped making it think there's paper in there. Have you tried retracing your steps on the install?

@@matthewjeschke Yes its good, the lights flash..
My black fuser is missing some of the material on it. plus small guide wheels are putting crinkles on my paper.
Any links to get new or used Fuser units for Brother printers?

how do you replace the upper fuser roller. There is an upper roller (black) and lower (brown.) How do you replace the upper.

Thank you for sharing, where can I find a fuser unit for MFC 8690DW?
Next do this to the MFC-j430w. I can't figure out how to take the fuser out without tearing the unit apart. This one seems easier than mine.
I have a MFC-L5850DW. The fuser life says it's at 46%. Paper prints wrinkled everytime! How do I know if the fuser roller is the problem??
I had a similar problem. You almost have to take it out like I did in the video and inspect it. Mine had a tear in the roller, it was causing the pages to wrinkle too. How do you reset page count on fuser and PF Kit???? Please advise.
What is the PF kit? I dont recall a page counter for the fuser.
my paper gets stuck in the fuser
It's been a while since I fiddled much with the fuser. It may have a rip or tear or something? Did you remove it?

Hey Matthew, i have a question for the roller fuser of a brother DCP8150?
yes I worked on them and that is what is wrong
Do you have a website where I can send you a picture of my problem (on my HL-3170CDW) and you can tell me if it's the fuser and repairable?
3170 on generic toner turns into a big mess. Going to try and take mine apart as well and fix.

Anyone know how to reset the fuser counter after replacing it in a Brother HL-L3290CDW printer?
Try the Brother website for support PDF documents.
