Black Oak was such a Monster back in the 70`s. Great sound and great strutting show by Jim Dandy. I used to Love watching Tommy Aldridge drum for them back in the day. Love this band Glenn Augustyn
Band is Jimmy Henderson - Guitar Far Left, Greg Redding Guitar Center Left, Andy Tanas (later played with Krokus) Bass, Jack Holder - Lead Guitar Right, Joel Williams Drums. All but Henderson are hand picked Memphis players. The next version of BOA included Shawn Lane - Lead Guitar (Age 15) Jimmy Henderson - Lead Guitar, Kinley Wolfe - Bass, Chris Craig - Drums, Billy Batte - Keyboards. That version of BOA was more like Return to Forever than Black Oak Arkansas. They were off the scale awesome.
This was my first concert at only 13 years of age and I fell hard for live music after this and have been to hundreds of concerts since, nothing compares to this one there were frisbee's flying all around the thick pot-smoke filling the room full of top-less ladies and whiskey soaked party animals chasing them with their arms out. Gotta love Rock and Roll in the 70s !
Thanks for posting! A great show from one of my all time favourite groups. To my money, the guitarslingers of this band are kinda unsung heroes, who never seem to get the credit they derserve. Nobody votes them as the greatest guitarists of all time. Which they damn sure are!
I remember three of those DJs. They transmitted out of Little Rock from coast to coast and border to border. Beaker Street was cutting edge back then. Now it's a Christian station, imagine that!
Is it just me or did I hear some buddy Holley lyrics beat and rhythm. Pretty sure I did On another note Jim Dandy does have a very unique and universal voice.
I´ve had heard this guys back in 1972 and man...! they were so damn good! and to answer nanobrite? they just went up´n´smoke!!! hahaha. greetings from Monterrey Mexico!
No, seriously, this is awesome! Just how many guitar players did they have? I'm assuming one of them is the bassist, but it looks like there's three other guys with guitars there.
You're right. There'd be separate accounts for hair dye, stage costumes, interaction with other members of the band, general movements and gestures. Oh and perhaps one for camping it up.
Holy Shit! These guys just schooled every rock band of all time.
The guitar work is just awesome
This kicks major ass and I did not know BOA did a cover of this song. Best version ever.

If one had to pay royalties based solely on influence, Jim Dandy would be a super-rich man based on David Lee Roth's monthly dues alone.

WOW
Dynamite version of a great oldie by some fantastic musicians.
Amazing sounds & so,so good.
From a 72yo Aussie fan.
all i can say is FAR OUT!!!
where the hell did the 70's go?!?!
Jim says, "Are you feelin high? ... well, so am I." Mick Jagger was not the only one who walked around stage like a rooster.
But he wrote that song...
and thats a Stones song too.
Wow what a gem. Never heard 3 guitar players so together. What tones too. And just tasty - no notes for notes sake.
David Lee Roth's idol
Every time I listen to black oak its a walk down memory. Lane I loved seeing this band n would love to see Jim Dandy again

i'll listen to this i mean
+Tiia Bäcklund And what about Tommy Aldridge, the drummer. He was The BEST!
+Judi Harbin Tommy Aldridge was a great drummer, but.....that's Joel Williams in this video.
Phenomenal performance. Go Jim Dandy!!!
I remember three of those DJs. They transmitted out of Little Rock from coast to coast and border to border. Beaker Street was cutting edge back then. Now it's a Christian station, imagine that!
Black Oak playin' Exodus harmony's with three Ebows... saw this tour as well as Raunch & Roll tour. One of my all time faves!
There will never be another frontman like Jim Dandy Mangrum!
Wow, I have pretty well all the albums from this era and this thing just blows me away.
That dude has great hair, looks like he's having fun being a rock star.
his voice is still incredible today.
The solo features pioneering use of the E Bow magnetic wave generator.
Oh yeah! That’s real rock and roll!!!!
Drummer is Joel Williams. I've had the pleasure of sharing the stage with him on numerous occasions and he's one of Memphis' finest drummers.
the guitarist on the left with the white les paul is little jimmie Henderson, who took over for Harvey jett
I often feel like I was born in the wrong decade. this band is one of the reasons why.
Ha Jim dandy and Black oak in there prime what a show man what a great band
this is music you can taste
BOA had always been a southern hard rock band But these new guys were practically Heavy Metal Which I understand was the direction Jim wanted to go
Southern Metal. Like Molly Hatchet and Blackfoot. And maybe Pantera, who was from Texas.
Is it just me or did I hear some buddy Holley lyrics beat and rhythm. Pretty sure I did
On another note Jim Dandy does have a very unique and universal voice.
God Bless Black Oak Arkansas
The studio version is amazing.
I love the reflection of the lights on the guitars !!!
I´ve had heard this guys back in 1972 and man...! they were so damn good! and to answer nanobrite? they just went up´n´smoke!!! hahaha. greetings from Monterrey Mexico!
All musicians are great here !
Thanks for posting! I've had the audio of this since it was broadcast. It's great to see the video again!

This is not BOA,this band is BLACK OAK. Great nevertheless !!!
If the big record companies didn't need a different sound these people would of made it big
Theme from Exodus starts at 4:24.
You're right. There'd be separate accounts for hair dye, stage costumes, interaction with other members of the band, general movements and gestures. Oh and perhaps one for camping it up.
Love this song!
IMHO BOA - America's most original band
& yes this when he shortened the name to BLACK OAK & dropped the Arkansas which made sense since these guys are from Memphis
BOA ..... one of my guilty pleasures ........
Awesome! I love this band!
Wow...redkneck Spinal Tap...awesome!
wow...its David Lee Roths hero!
NIce...classic use of the e-bow on guitar...
Leslie
Towards the end of the double guitar solo they borrowed the melody from the theme song of the movie entitled "Exodus."
Fender Precision Bass
I like the subtle changes in the bass pattern
Hey, this is really great!
Que hombre tan varonil...
You go, Jim Dandy! BOA ROCKS 4 EVA!
grate band!!
BOA PLEASE NOT FADE AWAY.
He's so glam and didn't even know it.
@hiwattdr504 All musicians are great here !!!
Whoa! Time machine...
Damn great video!
correct you are sir.. good info
Damn !!! Awesome Post !! Love my Homeboys BOA
that's.........amazing
kicks good groove.
While I am not a huge BOA fan (I don't hate them) I will say it seems like David Lee Roth was at least somewhat influenced by Jim Dandy.
+MechanicalAnimal yes ...thats a known fact....he even admits it
Big, big smile! ;D
Is that Pat Daugherty on bass or Andy Tanas?
Hell yeah!!
Love this!
!Wow! This is one killer band - where did they disappear to?
Thanks so much for posting this video - first time hearing & seeing them!
hey, anyone knows what bass is used here?
BOA picked a great song...Buddy Holly wrote it, and the Stones did a great earlier version of it.
better than dlr who copied his style.
That's a hell of a guit-army ya had goin on that one!
