  • Grilling a tri tip on a rotisserie is a delicious and easy way to cook this flavorful cut of meat. But should you do it? I will list some disadvantages to cooking a tri-tip with a rotisserie and offer to alternate ways to cook it and will leave it up to you to decide which method your prefer.
Start by preheating your grill to medium heat (around 300-350°F), next prepare your tri-tip by trimming off any excess fat and season it with your favorite choice of rub. I'll be using montreal steak seasoning and heath riles beef rub.
Once the grill is hot, place the rotisserie spit onto the grill and secure the tri tip onto the spit. Make sure the meat is evenly balanced and centered on the spit. use your favorite wood and drop in a few wood chunks for extra smoky flavor!
Close the grill lid and allow the tri tip to cook for about 60-90 minutes, depending on the size and thickness of the meat. To check the temperature of the tri tip, insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the meat about half way through the cook. You'll want to remove the tri tip from the grill once it reaches an internal temperature of 130-135°F for medium-rare or 140-145°F for medium.
Once the tri tip is cooked to your desired level of doneness, remove it from the grill and let it rest for about 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving. This will allow the juices to redistribute and the meat to become more tender.
Slice the tri tip against the grain into thin slices and serve with your choice of sides. If you'd like exact details and description on how to slice, be sure to check out my tri tip on jumbo joe video and I'll explain how to slice and how to reverse sear a tri tip. Oh excellent! We've got all the gear necessary to try this! I wouldn't mind the fork holes and such... I'm just not sure I won't also get hypnotized watching the rotisserie! Thanks for this Sal! What a great way to prepare tri-tip! Your other video is our failproof go-to method, so we'd love to give this a go. Thank you!

Wobbly table and all, looked great to me. The holes,..don't let it bother you,..not a show stopper. Keep talking about wanting a smart thermometer, and you will probably get one,..surprised you didn't get one already? They sent me one,...I need to use it more. Great video!

Excellent job, Sal! Brother as many meat sticks that are floating around out on RUclips. I’m surprised you don’t have one. I really think it’s an OK product and really not all that expensive compared to some others. I have almost completely decided to get a Santa Maria grill for my weber kettle, I think it would be a blast to cook on anyway, I thought your tri-tips delicious. Take care of yourself, brother, and hope you have an awesome happy holiday!
