- We’re finally meeting back up with Alex and Emma from The Travel Beans!!! While things didn’t go as planned last time we hung out, we’re finally both on the road with working RVs. 😅 So we decided to swap rigs for the night and compare their vintage, 1998 camper van to our brand new, 2022 travel trailer.

I hate to say it, because I love Clementine, but maybe you should consider selling her for a more modern RV/Camper. Vintage vehicles are great, but they always require some mechanical knowledge to keep them going. If you don't have that knowledge, then you're going to be in-and-out of shops, dropping hugs amounts of cash. The whole point of a road trip is to have fun and continually dealing with engine troubles is never fun. just my two cents. 😊

Phoenix looks like a brilliant van - it’s very cool. The Beans have a winner with that one - that shower design is ingenious- even if it probably takes a very, very careful effort.
Making friends with your rv is why I got mine RV, still working on getting it on the road soon. Glad you both got back together and some fun.

Definitely a deal breaker
There are class B (+) vans that have roomy, spacious bathrooms in the back and they span the width of the van….
Some are better than others
I’ve seen Born Frees that have a few floor plans that feature a rear bathroom

Truth. But we're still staying optimistic that we'll get Clementine's engine fixed up once and for all and can get back to traveling in the old gal 🤞🤞

I've been waiting for this meet up! The joining of two channels that I subscribe to! But I'm sad that it was so short. I had visions of you guys traveling all around the USA together, and getting 2 perspectives for every stop. I was so looking forward to that! Oh well. But excited to see you guys back in Asia again! 🌏
Don't worry! We have plans to reconnect later in the year. We just had these international plans we couldn't break and the Beans have to get back to the UK in a couple weeks to sort visa stuff. We'll reunite (for much longer) at some point!

Lol Are you two that young that you've never heard that ignition sound in old cars? haha Feel so old now.
Boil the water for the Pasta first using a kettle or the microwave A lot easier than those small burners .As for the shower taking a connection outside the van to a shower tent would be possible in warmer weather We never used our shower in all the years we had a motorhome or Trailer . Most sites have showers for free
To me the best setup is a class B pulling a camper so in any situation you have always somewhere to stay.
Plus you have more space if you need to get some alone time.
Did they mention they have a mice problem that comes out at night when you are sleeping???

I love the idea of having an all-in-one. Not having to deal with towing seems like a great way to avoid headaches. The cost of rent in Denver [CO in all] is making me really consider the van/tiny home life. I’m an Uber driver so I’m thinking I’d probably get a small plot of land outside of town to have a place to park/live long term. I love the vlogs, keep up the great work and stay safe!!
do some research on solar panels with converter charger on whatever you plan on. and of course the wi-fi booster.
Re parking on your own property, be sure you check out regulations re State, county and city, even some HOAs
I think the opposite. I think having another vehicle you can unhook and go places like the supermarket or a national park without having to pack everything is really nice.
Towing a trailer means that you don’t have to worry about a dingy and if one component breaks down you still have a place to live and/or drive. When a single unit goes down (and it will) you are up the creek.
That ridge down the center of the bed makes getting 'cosy' a bit awkward. Great if you had just argued before or maybe not.

The class B rvs are nice but small.on space. Enjoy it. They are nice as they fit into any parking spot. If you guys are ever in sw MO and have trouble look us up. I've worked on many rvs and do hvac for a living. Good luck and safe travels.

We have a truck/ trailer set. We love it because we can park our trailer at the campground, set it up, and go exploring in the truck.
Oh and I laughed when Eric banged his head 😅
Great film and a very good comparison of van and trailer life. The Black Series is a superb trailer for US roads. It's a shame it's a bit wide and heavy for the UK (fuel consumption when towing would cost a fortune over here). There's even a sale on at Blacks at the moment! I guess people who like towing will opt for a trailer and people who don't will opt for a van. For me, the clincher is the ability to leave the trailer in the campground and use the truck like an everyday vehicle. I travel like you do, but with a lighter, smaller rig.
Ya, we'd love to ship Clementine or the truck and black series to the UK and/or Europe to do some fun road trips, but both setups are just too big and clunky for the little back roads and campsites. And while we definitely appreciate how easy it is to maneuver a small campervan, we also really enjoy having a detachable vehicle. It just takes a little more planning on travel days to make sure we don't get stuck in little gas stations or crowded downtown streets with the big rig 😅
I just bought a travel camper trailer a month ago. If I would do a set up all over again, I would do the truck camper set up with an off road trailer for a small vehicle, extra fuel storage, and tools. I think I would have gone with a flatbed set-up with a full ton and 4x4 truck. I am still satisfied with my setup.
that shower seems like an emergency only sort of thing ... neat van though. makes me miss the conversion van my Mom had in the 90s. not a campervan, but had a sofa bed in the back and captains chairs, TV and Nintendo. great road trips in there.
I didn't realise that Phoenix hasca shower! Yes, a little impractical with the shower curtain, but wondering what could be done with two retractable screens! Maybe not enough room to install... I do really love their camper, although weird that you couldn't boil the pasta on the stove.
