We're Eric & Allison and we're on a journey to find the most interesting places and unique foods this planet has to offer! We've traded in our steady paychecks and permanent home for a life of travel and adventure. Come along and see the world with us!
We’re super sad to have Clementine back in the shop 😭 But we’ve got to continue our 50 state road trip! Make sure you checkout the full tour of our 1976 RV to see how it compares to this new rig! ruclips.net/video/VvD3u9PE3rA/видео.html
IF and when you upgrade to something newer , bring to a Certified mechanic 1st to make sure everything is right. Then if you purchase and have the funds , install a 2000 watt solar system ( 4 ( 500 watt solar panels ) thatll help power the RV when off grid anything less is not good .... and a simple water filtration under the kitchen sink
I am really enjoying your trip around the US! Must be a bit frustrating to have gas prices soar right when you finish your great renovations on Clementine but you seem to take it all in stride!. Thanks for taking us along!💖
Oh boy!
You really had me going there, like you're ditching Clementine after all that love and work you've put into her?!
I hope that she will behave from here on!
Sending good vibes your way!
If and when you decide to part with Clementine I will buy and turn into she shed.
You could come visit 🤞💕💕
The perks of working from home.....you see a notification for an endless adventure and you suddenly must take a break...! Yay!
Exactly!!!!!
@DJ Ness I envy you...all I see all day are my four beige walls that desperately need cleaning... these videos are my window to the outside world 🌎
@@deecee9051 great minds think alike...even better when they share names hehehe
What is so interesting (and why we started following your channel a while back) is we bought a vintage class C about the same age as yours. It's in excellent condition. And, after camping in it for a couple of years and meeting other people with newer ones, I'd choose ours hands down over the new ones out there. Stuff just seems to have been made better back then.
@@J.R._ "built much better then anything our there now" - apart from the grammar, that's simply not true. It depends on the make, year and quality tier; some are entry level and lower quality, while others are incredibly high quality. There are pros and cons, whether vintage or newer. I won't go into that here, though - otherwise I'd be writing a novel :)
Before my husband died, we caravanned for many years with our two vintage (1965 and 1966), vans. We exhibited them at shows, as well as using them for holidays. On many occasions, we were told by owners of new vans, about the problems they were experiencing!
I just started watching this couple specifically for the vintage rv/Clementine
So with campers quality varies a great deal based on price. We have had high end all fiberglass small trailers that last forever, literally never leaks, furniture is plastic , never fails, all the way down to the mass produced traditional. The ones that last a super long time are always going to be aluminum or all fiberglass including the roof. The stick constructed aluminum sided ones have lasted because the original owners kept them from getting wet, probably garaged or covered its whole life and thats why they are still on the road like Clementine.
@@drinkinslim less plastic parts part then. So it's true. Things are made to break these days.
On the A/C, you have the "dump" vent open so it blows straight down for quick cooling. It's best to close that by reaching up and sliding it closed. This will force the cool air to go through the vents and cool the whole space front to back evenly. Just my two cents.
I wondered about that. This episode rubbed me the wrong way, more than 20 minutes of bashing the brand and praising their 45 year old rig that’s so much better, yet sitting at a mechanic shop lol.
@@valerief1231 they were just saying that they liked the RV that they literally built to fit their needs more than one that is mass produced and wouldn't be custom to how they like it
U choose yours cause that's was your first Rv and u built it yourself so of course you like yours is the best. to each it's own
It’s so sweet how loyal you are to Clementine, that’s a sign of the quality of work that you have put into her!
For the air conditioner. You have the direct discharge vent open. That’s why it’s so noisy and breezy while it’s running. Close it and it will then send the cool air via the ceiling vents.
The front vent on the air conditioner is the intake air. The rear has a sliding damper. Slide it closed.
Eric's squeals when the rooster attacked him were hilarious! The best part of my day!
It's crazy how much these new luxury RVs and Travel Trailers cost.....they are made so cheap. We are living in a very nice 2017 travel trailer. Has everything, even a fireplace. But everything is plastic and breaks so easy. Clementine will be good for as long as someone loves her.
Some people may laugh at me for this.... but I use a large tarp that cost me $10, 2 poles with nylon rope and stakes, and hooks on my slide in truck camper to hook through the eyelets. It is very fast and easy to setup and tear down and is about the same size as the one you showed in this video. I also used this the other day to work on my truck in the rain in my front yard.... LOL.
I'm laughing at your tarp setup because I have the same thing 😅
If I had any doubt before, your tour has convinced me that new RVs are pretty much junk when compared to vintage versions. I’ve heard from so many people about the issues they have with certain brands of current RVs. I don’t mean to spoil your choice, but Coachman is not one of the brands I’m considering.
Yep if you could put a newer engine in a vintage it’d probably out last a newer rv
You really need to be a good do-it-yourselfer and outdoor enthusiast to RV in my opinion. Our new 2020 Off Road trailer has needed some kind of repair every single time we have taken it out, but we really use it well. I always get everything fixed very quickly thanks to Amazon, have the parts waiting for me when I get home, but its a constant battle. Unless they are molded 2 piece Egg Style trailers like the Casita or all Aluminum, its effectively 6 walls boxed together and glue shot on all the seams and they are taped shut with rubber molding and thats all of them, regardless, so water leaks is the number 1 issue. 2 years in, we already had to deal with about 3 leaks, however, they are very very easy to repair with just stuff from Home Depot and everyone has an RV section now with the special RV sealants. You just have to stay on top of it. Dad had a Coachman, nice RV but it also had the same issues as they all do.
Old rv had custom wood. This has.. factory glue.
I have a 2001 Minnie Winnie that I have been very happy with. I've had only a few minor issues in the 5 yrs I've owned it. The decor is a little dated, but I can live with it. It's great for My Husky and me, and we travel a lot! 😍
My 2020 AirStream is junk!
You kids did such a great job refurbing Clementine it just is not fair to compare it to any manufactured rv. It's just gonna take time to weed out all the mechanical issues that come with a vintage classic. My vote is Clementine hands down.
Be glad there were no slide-outs in the 70s. They break and are expensive to fix. My RV tech said he loves them because 80% of his business is fixing slide-outs.
Yes, clementine is the best by far. She is cool! Even with all her repairs it's way better then a new one and you built it. Clementine Rock's!!!
It depends on which new one you buy. The unit they rented looks to be a lower tier unit.
About Black Tank Odor Problems: When my wife and I started full-time RV living we had black tank smell issues. Started with the orange colored, so-called tank treatments from Camping World and Walmart... If anything, they made it smell worse. (Think how Sean Connery might say "citrus.")
I forget how we found it, but we ordered some Happy Camper's Tank Treatment on Amazon, and it just works amazing. It liquifies everything into a nearly oder-free slurry that slides right on out your stinky slinky. No problems with septic systems. There are similar treatments that work pretty well, but we keep coming back to the Happy Camper stuff.
While I totally agree with your old rebuilt unit looking much better, I use my RV for weekend getaways and some longer trips and yes its cheaply built junk but its a 36ft fifth wheel with three slides and its pretty roomy and comfy and all I need to go enjoy the week or weekend at a nice lake or campsite and its perfect for that. I bought mine one year old a few years back and paid $25k cash for it which was about $13k less then they guy I bought it from paid so it was a smoking deal and is still worth close to $25k possibly more now. I plan to use the crap out of it and probably leave it to my kids when I'm gone or sell it some day way down the road when I cant deal with it anymore. RV's are like boats, you love and hate them and have to constantly work on them but to me they are both worth it for all the pleasure and adventure you get out of them. I'm pretty handy with a wrench and that to me is part of the enjoyment, working on them.
Clementine is so much brighter and cheerful. The newer van's interior is uninspiring. But love the extra space when you push that button!
That transition from the painting back to the video blew my mind. Well done friend. Truly inspiring, Whimpi, Indonesia
If you’re still in the rental, don’t know if you’ve checked but the AC vents might be dirty and stopping good airflow. Just a thought. 😊
Black tank tip: Get yourselves some Happy Camper Tank Treatment. Just follow the instructions and you’ll have no smells at all 👍. There are plenty of other brands you can use that work too but I’ve had the best results with them.
Also this newer model
Must have a black tank flush!
I'm renovating an '88 Ford motorhome. While there have been some tears, there are no regrets. She is solid and safe, with a few character (dips and dents). I am getting so impatient to be on the road.😎
The Endless Adventure. Rents almost brand new RV, still has problems 😂
After the 50 states, you gotta do Canada. (you only have 13 to hit here). Keep up the good work guys!
Hahaha! It would definitely be just our luck 🤪
Pro tip: Black water tanks should not smell if properly emptied, cleaned and treated. Sorry that was your experience! Sounds like a black water service may be in order for the 2020.
Wow this is a tough call on the comparison. The fact it is even a debate shows what an incredible job you guys did with Clementine! The extra space is a massive plus on the new one. But Clementine has all the character and looks more real, not fake. But the extra space and storage..those are key advantages especially in a place you will be in everyday. Practicality goes with the new one.
Oh ya, those slide outs were amazing! Clementine has a good bit of space when the desk's folded down, but it's nothing compared to the living room in the 2020 rig. And we love our big closet in Clementine, but having outdoor storage would be amazing!
@@Theendlessadventure We still love Clementine though!! ❤️
I am a 69-year-old housebound disabled senior and I love your Channel you guys are fabulous I mean awesome so natural and your compassion and caring and love comes across the channel I am so glad I came upon your channel you guys crack me up too makes my day thank you for doing this
Close the vent on the bottom of the Ac so the air can go into the dust work you will like that better
We started our demo/renos at the same time (only mine is going much slower and is a travel trailer), and at the first bit I was like "Oh, no, it's an omen for my trailer!" Glad to see Clementine is only resting after all you guys have put in her!
Life with stabilizing jacks is AMAZING! It went from feeling like an RV to feeling like a tiny home on a proper foundation. Psychologically, that made quite an impact on perceived size. And as I plan to do a LOT of cooking, that extra stability makes me feel safer in the kitchen.
I will be glad to see Clementine back on the road.
I don’t know if anyone else mentioned this…but on the ac, close off the down draft and the air will redirect into the vents to cool off the whole camper.
We ordered Hello Fresh this week and got the same meatloaf meal you had in this video. We haven’t made it yet and I forgot to select the meals for this week so I’m not all that excited about it but it looks like it’s better I’m the video so yea
Clementine wins hands down. The new rv yes has lots of storage and fancy gadgets but Clementine's bespoke interior just screams quality. Happy and safe travels. X
Our first RV was a ‘72… Just like your’s! However it was 20 years old when we bought it! In 2000 we sold it to a neighbor who was a mechanic!
Safe travels!
Clementine is just so beautiful ,and as with most old things, maintenance and upkeep can be intense, doable but intense. But Clementine is a BEAUTY indeed!!
Wow you even changed the intro with your adopted van! soooo cool!!! I still love Clementine though.. The adventure continues!!
Look, you guys did a fantastic job renovating Clementine. Aesthetically, inside, you guys did a wonderfully professional job. Don’t let anyone kid you. Getting the engine right is nothing. Don’t let anyone short-change you.
Clementine wins hands down! 🥰 thumbs up! 👍She is unique! I love how you guys designed Clementine She is a Beauty for sure! take care ❤~Idaho~
Swirls are for aerodynamic purposes and it makes the vehicle go faster.
Lol 😆
🤣
So glad German RV are so much more elegant and looking like Home on wheels.
You have to come to Düsseldorf RV show! It is in late August.
YES! Awning and manual jack stabilizers! Must have
Here in the UK petrol (gas 😐) prices are around $10.3 per gallon (£1.87 per liter. Diesel is more than that). Be grateful you have it so cheap!
When Trump was president our gasoline was $2.00 a gallon. Some states went down to 99c a gallon.
@@passingthroughtime3033 no they didn't.
Hi Eric and Allison what's going on Adventures I'm with you I like the older vintage look of the older Rv's and Truck campers too they just are all it the newer Rv's although have everything to me their just is Nothing better than the Older classic
We have a 1994 Winnebago Adventurer 34 foot we just bought and luckily in very good condition. Still plan several modern upgrades over 1994 specs that also will help with weight and power use. Removing the LP water tank that only holds 6 gallons for an instant heat unit. Upgrading fridge to 120v only. No propane use so removing system for reduced weight. The chevy 454 gets us 11 mpg with just over 40K miles and weight reduction plans should help boost that a little. Total new cooling and AC system on driven unit, roof unit works fine. as well as full brake system rebuild. Reworking the entire roof and reinforcing it to try and prevent leaks, had a leak a few years back fixed from paperwork that came with it. I build boats for a living so plan to style the roof a bit to accommodate the vents and AC units and other items then will gelcoat it completely rather than use a rubber roofing compound. Maybe install a few solar panels on top to boot. Already ordered Dish for Outdoors to install as well as a retract screen and projector to save space on a TV. Roof AC units have both cool and heat so will remove the "central heat" system for weight. Ours oddly did not have a leveling system on it but will find one second hand to install soon so added weight there but they also help when you have a flat and carrying a 12 ton bottle jack sucks. Slight delamination on sides from age but nothing serious to worry about it can be fixed easily. Last piece of technology it will get will be a roof mounted VR360 camera hooked to my old 5TB DVR for some cool youtube videos when on the road.
That rooster was trying to annihilate the competition lol
As a mechanic we had a saying"the good old days, they really weren't" I see lots of young people that want the retro motorcycle, car, in your case motorhome. To run the old stuff you really need to be a full-fledged mechanic.
That's true, but I do read a lot of horror stories about some of these newer RV's.
Old is gold!
Limited parts available as years go by
@@byou148 you have to find interchangeable parts or make your own.
Those engines need long warmups to build up enough compression to handle the heavy weight before moving at least 20 minutes even longer in harsh weather….
All my cars have cruise control and I travel for work. I never use cruise control, having to manually use tha gas and brake will definitely help you avoid getting extremely sleepy
Pro Tip: Roosters are rarely friendly 🤣 You guys crack us up. Hopefully you can get back to traveling in Clementine soon!
Roosters are only friendly until you get in their space lol. I remember back in high school locking one of my friends in the chicken coop, and told him to go pet the rooster because he was friendly. It wasn't a friendly rooster, and my friend hated me for that, but I thought it was hilarious.
The pro tip I want to know is how to stop roosters from crowing. We have neighbours RIGHT NEXT to us who have 5 roosters - they all take turns crowing, no matter what time of day. From my research, the only *effective* way to stop them crowing is to lop their heads off. I don't think the neighbours will let us do that. But I do wish they'd eat them for dinner. Come on, neighbours - it tastes like chicken! 😂
I know I'm a little late with a comment but just came back home from a 5 night camping trip to the Adirondacks. I was so relieved to see you didn't actually get a new rv! I hate the looks of the newer ones. No personality & they all look too bland & sterile. Love my 1983 Coachman Leprechaun & love everything you have done to Clementine! It's a shame though all the money you put in getting a new engine etc. & still mechanically having problems. I know that feeling all too well:( Hope she's back running in no time!
I definitely like Clementine's style much better than the new one!!
Close the vent on the AC unit and it will blow through the individual registers making it more quit and efficient.
Clementine has Charm and this thing is completely free of that. Good to see you all are continuing the journey though.
Moonshade, light weights, removable. Super cool shade.
I live in Kansas. Everyone always thinks it's so flat, but it's not. Enjoy your time here.
I think you're probably the only 2 people who would choose Clementine over the new one. However, your renovation is very nice.
Newbie here. ☺️ I live in Charleston,SC and I work on East Bay Street .I pulled in a couple of months ago at 7:30am,and I swear there was a camper parked that looked just like yours ..It stood out to me because we never have RV's using our location as a camping spot .I just thought I would share this little tidbit and to say that I have been enjoying your videos.. ☺️
Clementine is a darling RV, but I miss the old EA from years ago that traveled all over the world to interesting and beautiful places. A castle in Germany or a hidden beach in Southeast Asia is way more interesting than a tour of US campsites. But we will continue to watch because we like you both. But I really miss the old days!
A nice BRAND NEW fixer upper . Can you guys stop being, just so cute 😊
GOOD FOR YOU GUYS! NICE UPGRADE.. IM GLAD YOU DIDNT LET THE FIRE GET YOU DOWN
The air conditioning doesn't work well because the dump vent is open.
Hope you have an enjoyable trip ☺
RUclips recommended this video... how cute to see a young man having so much fun travelling with his mom! People don’t take the time for family anymore 🤗🥰
Oof 😂
First, I think Coachman should hire you both as designers! After your 50 states you could take a break and design.
Hope they werent looking for a perfect review. We will miss Clementine till all fixed.
Enjoy for now.
Dont forget your fridge magnet!
The interior of the new RV would have been much better with light wood. That dark stuff is very old fashioned.
Sounds like your heater matrix/radiator has blown. It's old and has suffered a few overheats so perhaps not surprising. Replacing it may or may not be labour intensive but a new matrix should be reasonable. Sorting the AC maybe more expensive, but you really need it. Hopefully she will get more reliable as time goes by. She's like a classic car and needs constant TLC.
Are you talking about the heater core?
@@chuckkline2970 Yes I am.
IM FROM POPLAR BLUFF TOO...... MY FAMILY USED TO SELL COACHMEN ON B HWY....
Aww clemontine she will be missed but we know when she's fixed she will be ready to roll out again glad you two were able to continue this journey
The Badlands was my Mama’s favorite place she went to when she went on an epic cross-country road trip she did with some family💖
We loved traveling together💞
Safe travels🕊💛🙏
Also,
I laughed so hard at the rooster attack.. When I was a young child (4/5) one chased me on my Uncle’s farm.. we went round and round a tree until my Hero brother (Kevin) came to my rescue💛 He sadly was taken from us a couple years after that💔
My Uncle told me he was gonna get rid of that mean rooster because he wasn’t gonna keep a rooster that would chase after a child.. he was a wonderful man❣️
Anyways, sorry for the ramble😂
Just wanted to say them roosters can be mean as heck and if they get you with their spurs they can hurt someone pretty badly!!
I also learned after that that if it were to ever happen again to chase them back and stomp at the rooster… basically scare him and show him your authority.
Wow don't need any work for this one because its new now you guys happen to travel and safely I really like this slide outs
I agree about the swirl design.
The AC has the quick cool oper. Where the air is coming out slide it close and it will come out the ac vents. Hope it helps with how the noise
I’m 31 years old and have been with my girlfriend 10 years, we bought our house 5 years ago here in Florida, 2b 2b garage front and back screen porch, but we’re talking about selling the house and buying a schooly or a rv or something, we have good jobs and our morgage is not bad (since we bought it before market went crazy high) we don’t have car payments or credit card debt, we just noticed how less is more, and we can do with less,
Clementine is definitely one of a kind!! Enjoyed seeing the Kansas oasis!
Wow! 46 years old!?!? That's an amazing RV for almost half a century!
If you have a blank tank use Happy Camper. Works great and keeps the smell down to nothing except the hottest parts of the summer.
I have heard many people say that RVs, trailers and so forth that were built during the Pandemic Rush really suffer from quality control and overall build quality.
Maybe in a few years you can buy a newer one but change it up like you did♡ put your own touch on it, so you have more space and all that.
Y’all could totally add cruise control and a shoulder harness to Clementine without too much trouble.
Sad about Clementine, but on the other hand at least you will not be getting fans knocking on your RV door at 7am (Loves parking lot). I think you are on the down low now which could be very good for sleeping in. Have fun. Looking forward to seeing the next video of little Jerusalem.
Get Clementine an overhaul. I would much rather have an older /simpler coach than a newfangled job
While you are in Kansas - you have to check out Wyldwood Cellars in Peck Kansas - Harvest Host - they have amazing wine. They keep this one elderberry in a warmer - it is addictive! And a chocolate wine.
AMEN !!!! Your comment regarding RV vinyl graphics. There should be a law against them.
Most value priced RV's built by large companies are pure junk. Coachmen is 1 of 7 RV brands owned by Forest River.
If you go to Nebraska, make sure it is WEST Nebraska. Also, If you bring me Clementine, and an aftermarket cruse control, I will put it in for you. I am a mechanic and pretty good with that kind of stuff.
Clementine has that homey cozy feel!!!!
Just discovered you guys. I’m 67 and jealous. God bless you.
Great video , your rig is so much more attractive and actually beautiful ❤️. The weight you carry is just the trade off , looks better weighs more I suppose with the real materials instead of fake plastic etc. Loved the video guys ❤️
If you use the black tank properly and keep it well vented you'll never even know it was there.
Hey Guys, loved the Space Odyssey theme with the slides and awning coming out, lol... Speaking of slides, I think you guys should really go ahead and make Clementine a slide out! lol.. (During the winter months of course) weeks and weeks and weeks of content. hehe..
Regards,
Anne and Eric
"Thus Spake Zarathustra"
(the name of the music)
(You're welcome)
(Just kidding... giving you a hard time)
(Sorry. Couldn't help it.)
Instead of an awning, look into MoonShade portable vehicle awnings. Much easier on the budget and so very light.
Add heavy duty sway bars and air bag suspension you will be very happy.
I think it is a very nice Rv
All mod cons but no character. Clementine everytime 😊
Let's hope you have a less stressful time with the new RV.
The new one is far superior. So why is it so hard for people who drive vintage that are constantly breaking down and nickel and diming them to death to admit that
Wow! You got me...I thought you’d traded. Nice comparison. I hope when you get Clementine back soon and at 100%! She is a beauty and a treasure. Much love from SC, Jane❤️🙏🏻
Haha, sorry for the scare! We could never sell our little Clementine. Although those slide outs made us think about it for a second 😅 Keeping our fingers and toes crossed that Clementine feels better soon!
I saw the caption and said nooooo then watched the video and calmed down 🤣. Love the channel. Happy camping!!
Great review, guys! It's interesting to see the comparison. You did such a great job with your renovation to make it livable and stylish. I will say that I've watched a million RV reviews, and have never seen that side bunk feature before. That was so unique, and would definitely be something we would like in an RV 🙂
Woah, that's huge! Excellent move, even if just temporary. Still love Clementine, hope she's better soon.
Thanks! It was fun trying out something so different, but we'll be happy to our rig back soon :)
Yes Allison...I have missed you saying that you guys bought a "car" joke....but now it's a RV! Still great! Loved the video....thanks for sharing and I hope Clementine is better soon!
well you certainly right that things aren't as good now! quality is just going down nowadays and even in the RV scene.
All that broccoli! Are you sleeping at opposite ends of the van???😂😂😂 I still love Clementine)))
Still like the '76er' Thanks. Been trying to find a 2005-15 T5 lwb Transporter to 'fix' as a camper. Little later than your 76er but just as good.
That was full of laughs.. but that RV looked like a cheap motel compared to Clementine
I love your ventage rig, but spend more money on the engine and transmission tha the interior. I love your attitude! Do the travel while you are young. Problems are seen as adventure. Keep going on your journey!
I grew up in Western Kansas, camping at Scott Lake (among other lakes) and visiting Little Jersualem. You guys are in for a treat
