@@TTVBoyardD i'm about 200 km west of Edmonton. It's snowed here last week. My family is in Southwestern Ontario and the same day it snowed it was 33° there. I'm not sure which is worse
Just picked up a late '80s Ford passenger van with a 300ci straight 6. With the present world unrest, it seemed prudent. I've been camping my entire 71 years.
Hi! I found your channel because a young couple at a grocery store where I parked this morning got all "fan boy" and waited for me... thinking I was you. I run a very similar vehicle to that one. Mine is a 1989 Dodge B250 converted extended top with almost the same color scheme. The disappointment on their faces where real but at least they met a smaller content creator with an awesome personality! 😅 Now following.
Depends on the running gear and what is working. If you went and looked at an old 93 Dodge Van with 200K on it how much would you give for it? It's still just a van. And 90's era RV components will mostly be shot (Even if they work). But I have seen 90's ear Roadtreks in Good Shape being listed around $20K... but not worth it in my opinion. Find a great 2000's Ford or Chev 4x4 3/4 Ton and put your money in that. Then start looking for an 8' camper... so much more bang for the buck. I have not owned a Roadtrek but I have had many vans including Class B.
Some homeless person probably overdosed and died in it before getting auctioned….. otherwise, yeah it’s hard to find even a 1990s era in that condition for under 40,000 due to #VANLIFE
The 4x4 Roadtrek 190 Popular is the best kept vanlife secret. We have owned a Roadtrek for well over 20 years total and they have never let us down. Our 2007 4x4 Quigley conversion Roadtrek took us on countless amazing adventures. Comfortable, smooth on and off road, capable and tough as nails. Like I said, best kept secret in vanlife hands down.
My parents loved it because it drove like a car, and easy to park, even on Baja Peninsula beach! Went anywhere like a car. Exchanged their boxy one for an '86 "Roadtrek Versatile" and didn't miss the extra space. The boxy one they were afraid of sideswiping a parked car. Roadtrek easier to wash, but they did have that primer paint recall. They declined the free repair, said it made it less inviting to robbers, especially in the States. You'll regret it if you give it up.
I lived in an 88 RoadTrek for 5 years when I was a traveling tech for Indian Motorcycles. Love4d every minute of it, My suggestion for anyone who plans on doing this is buy some camo netting to cover the entire van plus some. This will help keep the van cooler in the summer as it creates shade and it will keep the van warmer in the winter because it creates a wind block.
Had one of those 190. The wife bought it when we were looking for land. I was not impressed until we started using it. In the end I dont think you can beat them for run and gun traveling
thank you I really appreciate that! I have gone through some burn out for sure but exciting to get back to more videos like this. thanks for your comment!
In 2007 I bought a 1988 Chevy C20 custom van for $800, it didn't have as much inside as you have, that's a really nice setup. Got 14mpg with the 5.7, I spent every weekend in it during spring and summer.
Insanely expensive to convert to a 4x4. That would require a rig in pristine conditiom that you really wanted to keep a long time to justify it. There would be really no good reason to do it to an old Roadtrek.
Sick van! Grew up doing road trips in 90s Chevy/GMC conversion vans. Wish stuff like that was still being made. I got kids now and don't really want a truck, minivan, or 3 row SUV. Give me an old van like this I can tow a little trailer with. Promasters and Sprinters are pricey and less cozy than these 90s beasts.
I inherited a 1994 Dodge Van RoadTrek when my dad passed away in 2004. It had just over 100,000 miles on it. My mom and dad had driven it to all the lower 48 states twice. It was in great shape. I sure wish I had kept it. 😢
I'm in a 1998 hightop Dodge B1500 I built to live in. Been traveling a year in it and I love it. 5.2 is a good engine. My van now has 110,000 miles. Safe travels.
A local car auction I frequent got an early 90s Roadtrek a couple years ago. Now this is one of those auctions at a donation/thrift store in a rough part of town. I expected it to go for like $6k based on previous RVs auctioned off. Hoped for less, but it ended up going for $17k! Granted it was pristine, and would be worth $22-24k at a dealer. Man I wanted it!
I think thats an amazing plan and starting somewhere reasonable i stead of an 80,000 dollar sprinter is just what some people need to see. It doesnt have to cost every dime you have. You can do it reasonably if you look around you would be amazed what you can get for your money...
Classic Road Trek. Everything you need. I have the 2002 Dodge conversion van. It did the trick a long time. We outgrew it and got a B+. Enjoy your Vanlife adventures.
And... I'm back to watching your videos regularly. I'm not saying there was anything wrong with your Jeep setup, but it was not my "cup of tea", so I was only watching the occasional non-Jeep related video. Welcome back to my interest zone... for what it's worth. :)
The outside is a little rough but I really like the size and layout of the older Roadtrek vans. Other than their age (reliability?), I think it would be awesome.
I was in the fires in Ruidoso NM back in June. We were evacuated. Then after fires were 70% contained. We were hit with flooding for 3 weeks! It’s been horrible!

We have a 99D190P Roadtrek, love it but it’s not very good for serious off-roading. Ours is similar up yours. We took out the Third seat and put 12V large fridge that runs on solar.
That is a nice rig and a good deal for sure. It looks to have little wear and little use in the camper and that is the big part. You can modify it however you like and the engine is good for 300

The funny thing is that is, I'm hot rodding, refurbishing, and upgrading a 37' 1990 Class A Fleetwood, and have found a Dana 70 front drive axle for it. yes lots of interchangeable parts so it wouldn't even be too crazy custom!
